    Breakfast Burrito

I recently ate a lovely brunch at AKASHA. The menu was quite large, with salads, sandwiches and breakfast entrees. My breakfast burrito ($18) was on the small side, but it was quite delicious - eggs, chorizo, potato pancakes and queso fresco, with salsa verde and lime crema on the side. This was the first time I've ever had latkes in a breakfast burrito and it was DELICIOUS. Much better than regular hash browns, thanks to the addition of onions. Convenient parking in the lot behind the restaurant (first hour free).

Met a friend for dinner at Akasha on a weeknight and had no problem walking in without a reservation. We wanted a place that was fairly quiet so we could talk and catch up, and Akashi was perfect. The server let us taste several wines before selecting the one we liked. The burrata salad on arugula was delicious as was the kale salad. We added salmon which wasn't an option on the menu but we were nicely accommodated. Pets are welcome as well. Highly recommend for a casual dinner.

I was admittedly a little skeptical coming in reading the reviews of the food, but the place well-exceeded my expectations. We were seated promptly by the server despite it being semi-busy on a Tuesday afternoon. We ordered the mushroom pizza and pea soup. The mushroom pizza had a deliciously crunchy crust, with a generous slathering of olive oil, paired with creamy goat cheese. The mushroom was well sautéed, not overly done. The service was excellent; they were super attentive. Seeing that we were sharing the dish, and they offered sharing plates immediately, along with some chili flakes (which we highly recommend! it added an extra layer of heat to the rich, savory flavors of the pizza.) My partner especially loved the Soup of the Day, which is a thick, creamy pea soup, which held a savory, earthy flavor almost. This is off topic, but I absolutely loved the music selection. Mr. Jones, Fade into You, Journey, Wonderwall, Save Tonight... bring the 90s back!!! We will definitely revisit this restaurant :)

I forget that Culver City does not want you to drive your car there. And I know this is less about Akasha and they probably share my frustration about this but going to Culver City - the powers that be have NOT made it easy. Know that you CAN find a parking garage a few blocks away (totally hidden) and get an hour of free parking. Culver City is completely backwards in trying to encourage people to come for their restaurants - they need to look to Beverly Hills for inspiration. Moving on. Except this is to be clear... a business lunch and I wouldn't do it again in Culver City. It was OK. The menu isn't huge and my chopped salad was mostly chickpeas and pretty much no other ingredient. I didn't see any of the promised "pepperoncini, salami, provolone, grana padano". It was chopped greens with a lot of chickpeas. For $18, it wasn't great. My friend had the kale Ceaser with chicken and it looked ok. She didn't eat much. Iced tea with the typical politically correct sweeteners. I like the pink stuff. I didn't eat more than a few bites and I didn't take my salad home. I almost always do. This was just not great. On the other hand, it's a good place to have a meeting if you're going to... I don't know... bicycle in? I think if you're going to make it so inconvenient to get to your place, you need to be exceptional. This wasn't. It's just OK.

Even on its last day of service, Akasha's food and service continued to be top notch. We stopped in for a farewell drink at the dimly lit stylish spot. Wound up staying for a happy hour drink and a double order of onion rings. The staff was kind and communicative as the kitchen staff had to scramble to make sure we would have ketchup and eventually aioli for the perfectly battered light as air onion rings. This local favorite will be missed in Culver City.

I am surprised that this place, in sum, got a 3.5 on average. I enjoyed the experience but I did have to work to enjoy it. I arrived early to the joint and took a self-guided tour of their bakery section, which also doubled as their prepared food section, kind-of. For example, in one of my pictures I showed a picture of a refrigerator packed with pre-packaged soups, like Tortilla and Turkey Chili both gluten-free. Available, was also Nonna Sauce, a type of marina sauce. Truth be told, in their label packages the sauce and soups looked sad, and by sad I mean unappetizing. But to be fair, food that is served to be on a plate must look unappetizing in kitchen backrooms. I am confident that a home cook can take the packaged contents and make them happy to be re-heated. I just do not think that people will take the soup and sauces, looking like they do. I know one is not suppose to judge a book by appearance, but I ask- if the option was to take home a torn and battered version of To Kill a Mocking Bird or one that was pristine and leather bound which option would get picked up? The place also had pre-packaged meals like Potato Pancakes, Tandori Chicken Wings, and eggplant parm. These meals looked more inviting, and could possibly taste better re-heated. I guess the soups and sauces suffered from looking like slop before re-heat. I could more easily imagine enjoying the meals even when they were just frozen and packaged. Before I move on, I would like to note that a lot of their baked goods were also glutten free, and one was vegan. So all different eaters may likely find a pastry made just for them. Despite the inclusivity of the baked goods, they still seem like they had better days. Jordan was our server. I ordered an ice latte before my partner in dine came, Liz. The latte was unique because it was made out of Turmeric. It was a risk, I knew it. But I am also open to learning. I tasted the latte, took two big gulps and decided it was not for me. The drink had no sweet notes, like at all. I had to return it. Jordan was kind and quirky about it. I appreciate anyone who whistles while they work, either literally or figuratively. I am not telling servers to smile but maybe like teaching, serving, is at its core a performative role, because when one performs when hopefully engages others well. My main dish was the Shakhsuka- a baked egg dish with saffron, tomato sauce, aragula, feta and also bread on the side. Again, I ordered to defy my comfort zone. On the side, I had the house's turkey sausage and their home fries. The turkey sausage I could not finish. They were overdone, meaning they had too much going, to be delicious, in terms of herbs and spices. Maybe complexity does not belong in morning meats. After having a few bites of the Shakhsuka I was underwhelm. The aragula taste was too present. I had to remove some from the plate, like a gardener removes weeds from the sidewalk. I dunked the bread into the Shakhsuka and it felt like I was dipping bread into marinara but the marinara was not flavorful, its flavor profile was shallow. I let the Shakhsuka sit, I was not enjoying it. Then I took some of the potatoes and tried them with the sauce and the duo hit. I took all potatoes and dunked them in the sauce. Yum! Yum! Yum! I had taken the pieces and made them work--- finally to a dish I can gush about! Liz told me that the eggs in the Shakhsuka still cooked. Perhaps the flavors settled into their own taste. The bread was not what I needed to enjoy the Shakhsuka made for dipping. But the mixture of potato and Shakhsuka, as stated before, was the ticket to flavor town, where I enjoyed being. The space itself was gorgeous-- high ceilings with these chandeliers that look like petals hung up side down, a few petals, not many. The flower was not wilting in Winter, the flower had only a few petals because it knew that these are the only ones it needed to be elegant and beautiful and arresting to the eye. The glow was dim but enough.

Came with a friend for lunch and ordered a kale salad. I was very underwhelmed when they brought out since it was a pile of kale and drawing, Parmesan and croutons were on the side vs mixed. It's definitely not the same kale salad I remember and paying $17 for just kale leaves isn't worth it. I added chicken for $6 which was also a very small serving. Service was fine and server was friendly but disappointed in the food

A Royal Review from Princess Mozzarella Akasha - Downtown Culver City's Hidden Gem Hello, dear readers of refined taste and sensitive tummies! I'm Mozzarella, the Pink Poodle Princess -- loyal companion, and a very important gluten detection service pup-in-training. And today, I must bark from the rooftops about my number one favorite place in all of Los Angeles -- a place so magical, so nourishing, so welcoming, it makes my floofy tail do a happy tap dance every time we walk there: AKASHA Yes, that Akasha, tucked sweetly in downtown Culver City. The food? Immaculate. The energy? Glowy and warm. The vibes? Chef's kiss. ‍ Let me tell you something very important: my mom (the sparkling star of my universe) has celiac disease. Not the trendy kind. The real, blister-causing, painful, hyper-sensitive kind. And Akasha is the ONLY restaurant where she's been eating for years and has NEVER gotten sick. That is HUGE. That is miraculous. That is worth a thousand golden biscuits. Not only do they deeply understand gluten cross-contamination, they treat it with respect and care. Every banana bread slice, every sweet potato fry, every cozy turkey meatloaf from their market fridge -- it's all made with love and integrity. I personally enjoy lounging on the pet-friendly patio, where the staff always greets me with kindness. Sometimes the kitchen even makes me my own little chicken dish (though let's be real, I'm holding out for steak ). My tail wags just hearing the word "Akasha." My favorite human enjoys: * The warm banana bread (gluten-free and dreamy!) * The sweet potato fries * The roasted Brussels sprouts * The chicken -- simple, safe, flavorful * Their daily matcha lattes * The homemade-style market meals (hello, dairy-free mashed potatoes and latkes!) * ...and most of all, the consistent peace of mind And let's talk about dessert -- because Akasha is one of the only restaurants in the entire galaxy that serves a vegan and gluten-free brownie with ice cream that actually tastes like magic and not cardboard. My mom has searched far and wide -- through trendy cafés and health food havens -- and no one else comes close. The fact that you can order a real, indulgent, gooey, warm brownie with ice cream at a regular restaurant (not just a vegan-only spot) is a dessert miracle. It makes us feel included, celebrated, and oh-so-sweetly spoiled. Truly, Akasha is a rare gem -- a dreamy, delicious haven for sensitive tummies and sparkly souls alike. And the history?! Don't get me started! The building used to be a surgeon's hospital, and there's even an old tunnel from the Culver Hotel. I've heard rumors it's haunted -- and honestly, I adore that. Haunted or not, it's filled with warmth, wonder, and good energy. It feels like visiting your artsy, spiritually-attuned aunt who gives great hugs and always has fresh banana bread. It's not a corporate chain. It's a mom-and-pop dream, created by Akasha and her husband -- real people who care about quality, comfort, and community. In short: Akasha is not just a restaurant. It's a sanctuary. It's a daily hug. It's our second home. And this little poodle will bark about it forever. With full paws and a full heart, Mozzarella the Poodle Princess of Culver Kingdom

Consistent. Welcoming. Classy. If you're ever looking for a sure shot at a good quality meal that is locally sourced- sustainable and delicious - search no more. You want sexy & classy with a hometown feel- search no more. I love coming here- it's usually with a +1 or more but today I came solo. Chris (manager) & Anthony (bartender) were superb. It felt like dining with old friends I hadn't seen in awhile. Customer service is a 12/10!

June 2024 | Culver City: Dined here tonight with two friends & fell in love with the salmon & broccolini, yum! We ordered plenty & shared each dish, as plates are small, but mighty! Salmon: Melt in your mouth delicious; tender & plenty of flavor, which made my tastebuds incredibly happy! I will order again!! Broccolini: Flavorful & flat out delicious, especially when you squeeze the lemon over this dish! Yum! I can still taste it as I write! I will order again!! Beet & Avocado Salad: Loved! Flavorful, plentiful & will order again! I love beets, in this case, golden beets! Yum! I will order again!! Onion Rings: Yum & yes, please! Arrives with two sauces! I preferred ketchup over the paprika aioli! Squash Blossom Pizza: Very tasty, enjoyed the flavor! Gochujang Cauliflower: Light flavor w/a bit of spice. I would not order again. I have Gochujang at home & it's quite flavorful! In fact, I'm used to its strong flavor; it really stands out! Suburbanite Mocktail: Pretty pink color, light, refreshing & without alcohol; cranberry lime & toasted rosemary! Customer Service: Everyone we interacted with from the moment we walked in was super friendly & often plenty of laughter, as well as service with a smile, loved it! Thanks again to everyone! Overall: I'm excited to eat at Akasha again! Simply thinking of the Salmon & Broccolini makes my mouth water, yummy!! Let's go!

THE best salmon salad I have ever had at a restaurant in my life... this is not an exaggeration. The salmon is perfectly crunchy on the outside and moist, but not undercooked on the inside. I did specifically ask for it to be cooked all the way through so not sure if you need to do that if that's the way you like it too. But I do know that the outside is always crunchy, that's what they're known for. Riri at the front and Kenny at the bar made this experience EXCELLENT with their kind service and going above and beyond for me. Five stars on all fronts: food, ambience, and service!

Akasha has been a staple in Culver City since 2008, and while I've spent plenty of days working from their attached coffee shop, I hadn't actually eaten at the restaurant until recently. I went for a networking lunch last week--it was a convenient mid-point to meet up, and none of us had tried it before. Making a reservation was easy, and there's a parking lot directly behind the restaurant, which made things super convenient. We sat out on the patio, which was quiet and perfect for conversation. The service was friendly and attentive. We started with the hummus & crudité, which I could probably skip next time--it was a bit on the bland side. I had the fish tacos for my main; they turned out to be fried (which I wasn't expecting), but they were still really tasty. My colleagues ordered the BLT and the burger--both looked great and got good reviews. Portions were generous without being too much. All in all, I'm glad I finally got to check it out!

Weird experience here. Our waitress was so nice but I feel like this restaurant has a lot of work to do in terms of timing. My friends and I ordered quite a few dishes, but tell me why I ordered the exact same thing as my friend so 3/4 entrees arrived at the same time but mine came about 30 minutes later... We also waited a super long time for our entrees despite it not being incredibly busy inside the restaurant. My group noticed that another table got their food first despite us being seated first. The food is pretty good. I really liked the French toast and the breakfast entrees but I will say service makes or breaks a meal. I was so hangry LOL

However, I let neither that nor the somewhat steep cost of the studio deter me from renting the place for my birthday party. The studio was in slight disarray when I showed up on the day I'd booked it for. Folding chairs and random painting were strewn about, and the floor needed to be swept. So I had to handle that before even setting up my own decorations and equipment. So throughout the night, my friends and I made sure to clean up any spills or messes. After the party ended, we were literally on our hands and knees making sure the place was spotless. The following day, despite the great care we took, Daniel wrote a harsh email to me and demanded a cleaning fee. He initially said having the floors steamed would cost $100.00. I replied explaining how thoroughly we had cleaned the studio. Then in a following email, he said the fee would be $75.00. Rather than go around in circles, I agreed to pay the lesser fee, as it was clear that he simply wanted more money.
