Down the stairs into a snug corner of happiness and goodness, underneath Brogan's on Dame Street, lies the glory and genius of Underdog. A craft beer geek's happy spot (not to sound redundant) that radiates spiritual purity and wonderment. A splendid place to try some beers by breweries of whom you may never have heard previously, but will if you can find this pleasure, little treasure.
We were fortunate as human individuals that our Airbnb was located two floors above Brogan's -- and three floors above Underdog. No need for taxis after a late-night drinking spree, we could just stumble up the flights of stairs to our Airbnb and pass out. When you research the bars and locations of the Airbnbs you're considering, you find yourself at an incredible advantage. But I digress.
To locate, you need to find Brogan's, which is down the street from the Olympia Theatre. Once you enter the front door, immediately turn to your left and walk down the flight of stairs into the cellar. You will turn right and walk down a hallway and arrive at the bar the Underdog.
To reiterate, they have a massive craft beer selection from breweries I had never heard before, located in Ireland, the UK, Norway, Denmark, Belgium, and other countries. My choices comprised The Wild Beer Company Tepache Sour; the Boundary Brewing Whose Idea Was This? Double IPA, and the Mikkeller Peter, Pale, and Mary (PPM) Pale Ale.
The first two came from breweries from whom I've never heard before, while everyone knows about Mikkeller and their penchant for producing excellent craft beer from their location in Denmark. The Tepeche was quite remarkable -- a perfect balance of funky brett with a zesty spiciness and sweet pineapple. The Evercreech, Somerset, England-brewery put something together that was special. The Whose Idea Was This? was a tasty beer, full of happiness and life, with lots of grapefruit and other citruses that made the beer from the Belfast-based brewery (Boundary) burst with juicy goodness. The PPM from Mikkeller was solid and an excellent way to close the tab.
Underdog has the definitive coolness factor where you need to know where you're going to find it. Amongst the myriad of bars, pubs, restaurants, supper houses, and the like in Temple Bar, Dublin City Centre, Underdog is a massive find. Their craft beer selection is tops and should be sought after for those who love a delicious craft beer that they've never tried before. read more
