The…read moreviews are breathtaking from start to finish, and seeing the glacier up close with Nugget Falls cascading beside it is something you won't forget. Money-saving tip: Skip the expensive excursions and take the Juneau Capital Transit bus from downtown to Dredge Lake Rd., which is the closest bus stop to Mendenhall. From there, it's about a 1.7-mile walk to the Visitor Center, followed by an easy 1.5-mile hike to Nugget Falls. The trail is well maintained and suitable for most people. The bus costs just $2 each way. Be sure to bring exact change or download the Token Transit app from the App Store to pay your fare. The bus system was easy to navigate, and we had no trouble figuring it out. In my opinion, this is one of the best values in Juneau. You get the same incredible glacier views and unforgettable experience that many people pay hundreds of dollars for on organized excursions. If you're comfortable walking a few miles, this is absolutely the way to do it!

Visitor center has an elevator to the 2nd floor that provides insight, views, and toilets. If in Juneau via a cruise ship you can access the park via both shore excursions and tour operators. No real complications on May 5, on that clear dry day, though 5 cruise ships were in port making the park entrance busy with both tourists and transports. It was a nice way to see a glacier, but the initial park area was crowded, so do not expect to escape from the bustle of tourists unless you explore deeper into the park.

The person that answered the phone was very polite and explained the procedure. I picked up the car at the location near the ship and dropped it off at the same location. The van did have a crack in the corner of the windshield and later in the day seemed a little sluggish, but it got us to Mendenhall Glacier, drove to a few more sightseeing locations and finished at Tracy's. It was definitely cheaper than all 12 of us pay for a similar excursion.

My husband is a car mechanic and immediately checked the tires to make sure they looked good. They didn't. One was below the minimum tread and the others were just at the indicator. Tires are the most important part of a car in regards to safety. We called and were offered a discount but really the most important is to be safe! Especially in the rain. Did not feel safety was an important consideration from them. The vehicle was also pretty banged up in the front bumper area plus interior floor was muddy. No biggie there really but never got a car rental like that in the past. This is mid May- the beginning of the season. Not a good way to start the season. Just would not recommend

Five star experience with Autumn and Captain Lee! Quite an informative and knowledgeable crew. The…read moresafety briefing was thorough and the boat was clean and organized. Autumn clearly has a passion for whales and gave us enough education to fuel our fire for the animals. We saw calves and Sasha and we were treated with the experience of a whale breaching right in front of the boat! Overall a wonderful experience and looking forward to another tour with ATA! Also to mention the wonderful salmon bake! Fresh fish and live music with covered seating and a creekside view. The short hike to the waterfall was fun too! Special shout out to our wonderful bus driver too! She drives the "sunshine" bus and while her name escapes me, her impression does not! She pointed out an eagle's nest, told stories of the legendary wolf Romeo, and gave us a quick but detailed history of the town. Bonus that she's from our neck of the woods!

Getting us immediately suited. Getting us separated in groups for the rafts. Issue: i understand the weight balance but my four year old was placed on the outside and it made for a nerve racking trip for me holding on to him for dear life! My issue- our tour guide. Nice and strong but I couldn't understand anything he was telling us because I was in the front and he has a very very thick accent. I feel like my oldest did not get the experience I hoped for because of the language barrier. Aka she didnt learn anything. Overall, it's beautiful and fun. But cold. We did get wet. It's still Alaska and still amazing. Still suggest.
