Had to travel to Skagway, AK for work and getting there is tricky. Flew to Juneau, AK and stayed the night and then took a seaplane the next day. Only other way to get there is a 7 hour ferry ride or to fly to anchorage and drive 15 hours (through Canada). My flight was as at 8:30am, which was a rookie error on my end. These little planes do not fly in fog and due to poor visibility I sat in the airport until 3pm where they gave up and told me to come back tomorrow and try again! Booked the same flight for the next day and came back and early in the morning it was foggy but the fog burned off by 10am and we made it. Do t bother scheduling a flight BEFORE 10am! No need to go through security/TSA. They call your name and you walk right out on the runway. Plane had 4 seats (half the plane is used for cargo). Flight was AMAZING and well worth the wait! We flew Pretty low to the ground with amazing views of this beautiful area. Views of the water and mountains. Makes you thankful to be alive! read more

As a former frequent flyer and fan of this airline I now advise you to steer clear if possible. First... don't overlook that these are multi pilot complex aircraft being operated by single pilot with a single engine. The pilots are good, the engines are reliable, but things happen. Second... woefully understaffed, and many employees display a cavalier attitude to say the least. Just Call Juneau and try getting someone on the phone if anything goes wrong. I will be flying Alaska Airlines from now on. If you don;t like TSA... get TSA pre. Save yourself a lot of heartache and money. Finally. There is no passenger screening. An angry passenger could be a big problem. Think that couldn't happen? Watch how the pilots treat the passengers before they even get on the plane... Condescending, insulting, Confrontational are words that come to mind. It's understandable as they are overworked and double as baggage handlers etc. Also smaller stations have no real senior leadership which is not a problem until there ARE problems and no one knows what to do and trust me they will refuse to contact Juneau for guidance...... Most important.... WEATHER. This is Alaska. Small light planes are not capable of doing what a 737 with two pilots and special proprietary instrument approaches can do. Alaska Airlines has no competition when it comes to safety and reliability in Southeast Alaska. You can get on the first leg of a 20 minute flight on Alaska Seaplanes and find yourself trapped on the plane for hours as they attempt to land and various airports on the route for that flight and wind up right back in Juneau. As a retired pilot I will be flying Alaska Airlines from now on. The specifics of my latest flight follow if interested. The seats on a Pilatus PC12 are not good for your back. So I bring a stadium seat with me that has back support built into it. Seaplanes does not allow carry on "bags". So understandably the pilot wanted to take that from me thinking it was a "carry on". I politely explained that I needed to sit on it for my back problems and he seemed to understand.... I thought things were fine. I sat in the most forward seat Starboard side just behind the bulkhead to the cockpit. I had my toes bent touching the bulkhead feet on the floor. There were 4 other passengers.... pretty intimate. The pilot boards and before closing the door proceeds to chew me out for having my toes up against the bulkhead which is carpeted and if you have ever flown in the front seats of any airplane I am sure you will recognize that most people touch the bulkhead with their feet. No matter I thought.... I didn't say anything, I simply pulled my feet back and complied with his rather odd demand. As we flew I wondered what could cause such an angry outburst and began to wonder about the guys state of mind to be honest. I admit I found it insulting to be singled out like that in front of other passengers as if I had done something wrong. We arrive in Sitka and I am concerned enough about this guy that I decided to watch him unload the bags to be sure he didn't;t throw mine around with the computer, cell phone etc in it. This is getting too long I going to cut to the chase. They lost my bag. From Juneau to Sitka. Which means it could then be on its way to any of their other destinations with all my prescriptions in it. The pilot had specifically rolled the baggage cart over to me personally and asked if I saw my bag there. I had said nothing so far. I said no. He shrugged. I said does this mean it is lost. He said yes. I said how is that possible? He said well stuff happens...."no one is perfect". So I said "what can we do about it". I got no response. So I went inside. For the next hour No one at Sitka would help me in any way. No one would pick up a phone and call Juneau. No one would send an e mail to dispatch and inquire about where my bag was before it ended up somewhere else inaccessible perhaps. I finally lost my patience and demanded that they do something...... Nothing happened. I went home. I spent an hour and a half on the phone mostly on hold trying to get a human being. They finally called and said they would have the bag to me by noon the next day. Unacceptable because of the prescriptions. I was able to talk them in to sending it on Alaska Airlines and I am thankful for that. I believe the pilot of the flight should be disciplined for his utterly uncaring and frankly confrontational attitude. We just visited Skagway, flying there from Juneau and has quite a treat. We flew on Alaska Seaplanes and all the staff treated us like family. This was my second visit but my first flight in. Our flight was smooth and comfortable, an easy flight both directions. I would give a shout-out to all the staff. I must call out Gary, our pilot though, he made sure to cover all the official stuff, but also made the flight special because he was as excited as we all were to see the mountains and fjords. Late flight getting into Juneau. Rude lady at the counter wanted to charge me to rebook. Pointed out that it was due to their flight being late that I didn't make my connection. Slidell asked for my booking number which I gave. Grudgingly said I wouldn't have to pay to rebook. I asked her about my luggage and she didn't seem to care. An overall nasty experience with that Juneau check-in lady. If there was any other company I'd use it but they have a monopoly, and know it. read more

The customer service from this company is AMAZING!! In an age of hope for OK service and a expect the worse Alaskan Seaplanes provided unexpected phenomenally awesome customer service. I chartered a seaplane for a glacier tour while in Juneau on a cruise. The day we arrived there was very low cloud cover and poor visibility. Alaskan Seaplanes contacted me and my wife separately via both phone and email to communicate as much and recommended we cancel our trip. It would have been very easy for Alaskan Seaplanes to have moved forward with the charter but that is obviously not the way these folks operate. Because we were contacted early I was able to take my family on a whale watching excursion during the time we had. THANK YOU Alaskan Seaplanes for renewing my faith in airline customer service. Loved it. We opted to fly in to Haines from Juneau instead of taking the fast ferry. An hour and 30 minutes shorter ride and breathtaking arial views the Haines-Juneau mountains and glaciers. read more

My partner and I ended up getting stuck in Fraser BC behind an avalanche and missed our barge, got close to missing our flight. When we arrived in skagway at the Alaska seaplanes office we've come to find out that with the weather, flights have been cancelled for the week. Joanne however was quick to act and informed us there was a rare ferry heading out we could jump in with 10 minutes to spare. She went above and beyond to not only drive in front of us to show us where to go as we've never been through skagway before, she waited with us and to top it off helped my partner drop our truck off for a barge and drove him back to the ferry. Couldn't be more grateful to her for being an amazing human, and taking time out of her day to help us out. Without Joanne we would probably be stuck in skagway for a week or two. Flew from Haines to Juneau on a little 5 seater plane. We had taken the ferry from Juneau to Skagway and were working our way back to Juneau. I am not a fan of little planes, but it did make sense to fly this leg schedule wise, the scenery promised to be beautiful and my kids were excited about it, so up I went. Best decision of the trip. It was gorgeous! The take off and landing were smooth as could be, and there were only a few bumps in the air. It was great to experience the view from both the ferry and then from above. Flight was in the afternoon so the sun cooperated and was out the whole way. Most beautiful runway I've ever flown on out of in Haines next to the chilkat river and the mountains. We worked with both the Juneau and Skagway airports. We were stuck in Skagway for serval days due to weather changing and not being able to find a way out. Doug and Karen at the Skagway airport did everything they could to help find us a way out of Skagway. They were very easy and polite to work with. They called us to tell us the ferry was adding more seats and for us to get on that and refunded our flights. They do whatever they can to help even if they aren't using their own resources! read more

Every time I talked I just got cut off with "All I need to know is the city and a number." Told them the info for my order was on my phone and instead of just taking a moment to read what was on it, I just got the same reply of "Just tell me the info." I was delivering an order for a service that is not set up for delivering to airports. I had the info in a chat and instead of taking a minute to look at it and just help me with it. They basically made me feel like they didn't want to deal with me. Annoyed and let them know I don't like coming to them to complete the service. If it was my choice, I would have picked a different company to complete the order. Worst part, there wasn't even a line of people waiting. I've had decent service before but I really was not in the mood for this today. read more

The staff at AK Seaplanes in Haines are amazing. We've had a week of cancelled flights due to weather and they have been so apologetic and helpful. The business does not require masks on their flights. The planes are very tight spaces which have the potential for rapid spreading of covid. Many people are anti maskers even though it is proven again and again to prevent covid spread. The operation, pilots, workers, etc. do not enforce the rules. Fly at your own risk. read more

The customer service at the Juneau office is the absolute worst for all the small airlines that fly out of Juneau. Our business is working in the community of Kake, AK and we have to fly packages 1-2 times a week. Recently, we had a box sit in the Juneau office for 4 days due to weather challenges. Now, they were flying out passengers, but our box was apparently the lowest priority for the company and was sent out last. The business had to be in Kake, AK over the superbowl weekend and a Superbowl care package was dropped off at the airport Saturday. The agent said that the Sunday flight sends out cargo and there is no problem with the box being sent out on the 1:00 pm flight. 2:00 came around we called on the status of the box. The agent who answered the Juneau number said that there were not passengers to fly to Kake so the flight was cancelled and they wouldn't fly to Kake for our $11 package. The agent was very rude and she conveyed that the company doesn't care about all their customers. I wonder if they treat all the customers with the same service because the community doesn't have any other airline options. If there was another airline that flies to the community of Kake, our business would be giving our service to another company. read more

The worst service in sending freight to the other communities in southeast. I sent a small box to Hoonah for Christmas and it wasn't sent. I've been disappointed more than once sending freight on Alaska Seaplanes. Not to mention the customer service is the worst.
