It was our first time eating at a Friedman's location. It had a nice diner feel to it, with a mix of booths and tables. The brunch menu has a variety of breakfast items, salads, sandwiches and burgers, starters, and entrees (fish tacos, grain bowl, fried chicken). I like that several of the items are naturally gluten free, and some can be made gluten free by request. We decided to go with three breakfast items from the brunch menu: I got the shakshuka, my sister got the Nova Benny, and we got the lemon ricotta pancakes to share. All 3 dishes were great. The shashuka came with grilled ciabatta, perfect for dipping into the sunny side eggs and tomato sauce. My sister loved that the poached eggs and smoked salmon of the Nova Benny came on top of a crispy potato latke. The pancakes were fluffy and the lemon ricotta and lemon zest elevated their flavor. Our server was friendly and attentive, and he asked us if we had any allergies when he took our order. He came by several times to check on us and refill water. I would return to Friedman's when I'm in the Herald Square area, or check out one of their other locations in the city.

The restaurant has a welcoming neighborhood atmosphere that fits well with their comfort-food focused menu, and the dining room stays lively without being too loud, making it easy to settle in and take our time. The food here leans classic brunch, but there are enough options that make it stand out. The chicken and waffles are a must-try, with the crispy chicken paired with the sweet waffles for a satisfying balance that hits both savory and sweet notes in one plate. The lemon ricotta pancakes are another highlight, with a lighter texture and a nice flavor that does not feel overly sweet, allowing the ricotta to add a subtle creaminess. We also liked the pastrami hash and the latke with smoked salmon and poached eggs, which bring more savory options to the menu and give the brunch spread a bit more variety beyond the usual sweet offerings. The portions are generous, and the flavors are straightforward but well executed. One thing that stood out was how many dietary options were available, especially with clearly marked gluten-free choices across the menu. It made the experience feel more accommodating without making the menu feel overly complicated or scattered. The service was friendly and attentive, and the overall experience felt comfortable from start to finish. The staff checked in at the right moments and kept the pace of the meal moving without rushing us. Friedman's is the type of place that works well when you are craving a familiar brunch meal done well. It is not trying to reinvent breakfast, but it delivers a reliable, satisfying meal with a welcoming atmosphere that makes it easy to return to. Whether you are stopping in for a quick bite or settling in for a longer catch-up session, it offers the kind of consistent, comforting experience that keeps neighborhood spots like this in regular rotation.

Visited Cave Bistro off the recommendation of a friend, and also DDD (iykyk)…read more I've frequented many DDD Restaurant's in the past, and they always seem to be very crowded. So just to be safe, I did make a reservation right when the restaurant opened. Seems to say I played it a bit too safe, I was the only one i there for the first 20-min.! In any case, then dining area was very bright and open, and I was seated near the window, which I enjoyed. I tried three foods, appetizer-entree-dessert, here's the breakdown: 1) Appetizer: Pan Roasted Achiote Octopus ($22) which has Shaved Pickled Carrots & Onions, Chermoula. For 1 person, this was quite substantial and a delicious start to the meal. The octopus wasn't tough, it was cooked perfectly, with a nice char-grilled flavour. Paired up with the accoutrements, it was a 10/10 way to begin my meal! 2) Entree: Grass-Fed Beef-Roasted Marrow Burger ($26) which has Raclette Cheese, Caramelized Onion-Tomato Jam, Fresh Baked Gluten Free Brioche Bun, & Beef Tallow Fries. Why 4-stars? Because of this item. The day I arrived the restaurant was trying their new "Baked Gluten-Free Brioche" on me, apparently I was one of the first --- the bread was dry AF, lol! I loved the burger --- the marrow taste, the raclette cheese --- I sing their praises, but wrong day to test out the "test bread"! It ended up on a Yelp Review. Hopefully the bread-recipe has been improved on after this review. PS: The onion-tomato jam perfectly pairs with the richness of the marrow burger. 3) Lastly, I ordered for dessert the bread pudding. They don't put their desserts on the menu, but if you ask the server they will let you know what the restaurant has for the day. I believe it's seasonal as well. It was average at best, good ---- but didn't stand-out. Overall, I'd totally recommend a stop-by if you're in the area! It's always awesome visiting these sites features on DDD, and tasting for yourself the hype behind their food!

Bone marrow burger was juicy and satisfying and the octopus was unbelievably tender. Special that night was yellow fin tuna-also melt in your mouth delicious. Planning on a return trip to eat all the small plates and give the spring lamb bolognese with whipped ricotta on rigatoni a try. Unpretentious relaxing vibe, small space and service with a smile.

This review will focus more on the owner and his staff. Last week I reached out directly to Marc, the owner, as I've done in the past being a loyal repeat customer. My wife and I were hosting a get together at our house yesterday and needed to place an order. Sadly, we needed the order to be picked up before their usual business hours. Marc immediately offered to have his guys come in a bit early just to accommodate our order. When I got there yesterday for pick up, I was greeted warmly and offered an espresso on the house while I waited. What an experience! There are plenty other businesses in this area who would not do this, ever. Marc appreciates the support and loyalty and it truly shows. Of course everything was a major hit with our guests as well. You can pizza many other places, even in the former Nola's location coincidentally. What you can't get is treated like family. Thank you Marc, Steve, and the entire crew!
