What can I say, Uncle Louie G is the best brand icee in Brooklyn and probably the only brand to compete against Ralph's (shout out to Staten Island/Shaolin). While they have multiple locations I frequent the one in Mill Basin. The couple that runs this particular store front is very nice and always gets you what you want quickly and efficiently. I like the majority of their flavors especially the ones they put whole pieces of fruit inside (e.g. FDNY Cherry has pieces of cherry in it.) Get it while it's still hot outside they close up shop by the 1st or 2nd week of November and come with Cash because they don't accept card. read more

I got the Tropical Rainbow (mixture of passionfruit, mango and cherry flavors) and it was so satisfying, sweet without being too artificial tasting. Husband enjoyed the Pina Colada flavor, which came packing with a ton of coconut flavor complete with coconut flakes. Great spot to visit when coming here to Marine Park for a stroll. This used to be an after-school spot for a treat, and today (20yrs later) I make it a point to grab my all time favorite strawberry cheesecake cone whenever I'm in the area. We were in Brooklyn to visit a friend and wanted something cool since it was finally a nice summer day without any rain. Of course we ran to yelp to find a spot near a park and we came across Uncle Louie G. It's not the Ralph's that we are used to getting but not gonna lie we enjoyed our ices very much. The boyfriend got a combo of watermelon and honeydew and I got the tropical rainbow (watermelon, passion fruit, and mango). Oh man that tropical rainbow is me in a cup with all those tropical island flavors that puts you on a beach. It was actually my first time trying Uncle Louie G and it makes me sad I've been missing out all this time. The best part is it was right by Marine Park so you can take a nice walk while enjoying your ice, although bug spray is highly recommended in that area lol. Rude and unsanitary conditions: While I was standing on line, I noticed that the peoprieter put his hand in his mouth. Before he served me I asked him if he was going to put on gloves. He responded 'Am I a surgeon'. I explained that it was yucky that he put his hand in his mouth, and I walked away. But when I was halfway down the block, another customer told me that the proprieter agreed to put on gloves. So I returned and ordered Italian ices. While I was waiting for my order, the other server (who I assume was his wife) lashed out at me, telling me that they are not required to wear gloves and that I could go somewhere else if I want servers to wear gloves. But I decided not to leave since my server had agreed to be gloved. He wore just one glove on the hand that went onto his mouth. As a result, neither of my hands nor my mouth plan to return there anytime soon. The ice was refreshing on this hot day, but maybe not worth the angst. read more

It reminded me of the Aloha Maid guava fruit juice and brought me back to my trip to Hawaii. It was under $5 and the perfect, light dessert after a full meal. This location in Brooklyn seem steady with business at 8:30 PM a couple of Sunday's ago. I ordered a "Chocolate Dream" on a sugar cone. While it was tasty. At $3 for one scoop seem a little steep. While the taste was not over sweet or to chocolaty, it hit the spot. It also hit my pocket, but I was living large. I guess they make their own Ice Cream since I saw multiple locations in NYC. After I ordered my cone, I notice that they make shakes. Maybe that is the way to go. I will make sure I bring my Black Amex next time. Overall, this is a good location with lots of flavors. I decided to try the rainbow Italian ice a couple days ago at the Hoyt St. location to see how it fared against Ralph's Famous Italian Ices. I was sadly dissapointed. The flavors tasted very artificial, especially the red section of the rainbow ice. It reminded almost of cough syrup, just kind of gross. The white and blue sections were okay but overall, I did not enjoy eating Louie's ice as much as I had Ralph's ice. I may try a few other flavors but I think I will stick to just ordering their ice cream. Louie, you loose a star today buddy. read more

When I saw Louis G's opening up on the same block as Ralph's I was kinda peeved. Why out of all the blocks you could choose, in all of Williamsburg, would you choose this one? I attempted to boycott in the beginning, but found myself there one day as per suggestion from a friend who lives in Park Slope. As I anticipated the ices were DELICIOUS! They taste very clean and healthy compared to Ralph's. So I have devised a system: If I want simple ices (coconut, chocolate) I will go to ULG, but if I want tasty, sugary concoctions then I will go to Ralph's. The service here is fantastic with an exception to the younger staff (college/teens). The owners/brothers etc.. are fantastic.Talkative, Fun and just all around lovely. Last night, however, I had a teenager/college kid who got overwhelmed, gave me ice cream instead of ices and then blamed it on me (telling me I called it by the wrong name - board was in front of me, so nope, right name). What makes this one stick out, and gives it 5 stars, is the service. Everybody there is insanely nice. Gross beware! This place is super dirty!! Ceiling tiles are dirty and falling out. The floor is atrocious and also super black like it's never been washed. The ices are so so it's like they bought them from a cheap distributor. We got bubbly bubble gum ice tonight and it had a old water taste with barely any bubble gum. Like other reviewers, I initially planned on boycotting this Uncle Louie location. Moving in so close to Ralph's just seemed particularly lame. At some point my curiosity got the best of me, however, and the game was over. The deal breakers were: 1. A huge selection of delish ice creams that you can't find at Ralph's (pumpkin pie, Brooklyn cheesecake, birthday cake, etc etc) 2. Cardboard ice cream cups (rather than styrofoam) 3. Free toppings. C'mon! And they don't skimp -- ask for hot fudge, and they put it on the bottom AND the top of the ice cream. 4. A generally higher quality water ice. The fruit flavors are more realistic, the non-fruits have more flavor to them, and the consistency is significantly smoother (no ice chunks) 5. Some of the nicest, sweetest (presumably) owners you'll ever meet. To wit: the last time I went over there, the man who I believe runs the shop stopped me on the sidewalk to give me a bag of fresh baked bagels that his friend had delivered that morning! Fresh bagels! They make the neighborhood feel like home. Believe me, I've thought a lot about this and don't take the decision lightly. Peanut Butter Cheesecake!!! I just tried it a few days ago and I'm still thinking about it. I managed to try something besides the freaky-looking but very delicious Birthday Cake flavor that has actual chunks of cake in it - cake that tastes like you just sliced it to serve, somehow not cake that tastes mushy like it's been in ice cream all day (which it has). The Pumpkin Pie ice cream is awesome too. If anything, skip the Strawberry Cheesecake. But pretty much everything else is a win. read more
