Man I've been hitting some duds here in Woodbridge lately. I haven't been to an Uncle Julio's since living in my hometown in Gaithersburg which was maybe 17 years ago! Restaurant is SUPER NICE. Service was ok. I was at lunch with a friend before I move saying goodbye and just catching up and the waitress kept almost rushing us, it was kind of rude. The Carnitas tacos were not very good but the hot sauce in the side was yums. The rice tasted like it came out of an uncle Ben's microwave pack, and the beans were just bleh. Super unimpressed. My friend got quesadillas she liked them. Probably not coming back, gonna go make up for this travesty and head to Don Sebas and get some for realz tacos. read more

Came here with my family and had a pretty mixed experience. The ambiance is really nice--great atmosphere and a good vibe overall. Unfortunately, the food and service didn't quite match. My daughter ordered the kids' chicken strips and fries, and they came out cold. Our drinks took about 20 minutes to arrive, even though the restaurant wasn't very busy, which was surprising. I had lunch at the Woodbridge location earlier this month, and was disappointed with the whole meal. I had been eagerly looking forward to lunching there and was let down. I had the combination Tex Mexi platter and the chocolate and fruit piñata. The Spanish with my meal was dry and tasteless; the three meat items had no real taste or Latin seasoning on them. The guacamole was tasty. The chocolate pinata fruit were not the best pieces; pineapples and strawberries. My lunch mates said that the pineapple tasted like a bottom corner of a pineapple that has no juiceness to it. Half of the items on the menu were unavailable. No shrimp, no fish, no poblano creme sauce for the enchiladas, and that left very few options. Our server was great and stayed on top of every order. She checked in on our table and didn't miss a beat! I am unsure who runs this establishment, but it was highly unacceptable to not have any items on the menu and the staff wasn't briefed until we ordered only to be told there was none available. That is poor communication and it's unfair to servers and guests. I ended up with the chicken and steak fajitas. The chicken was seasoned fine, but the steak although cooked well was not seasoned and lacked flare. I wouldn't order steak from here again. Stopped by Uncle Julio's while shopping at Potomac Mills with a friend. We were trying to wait out the rain and dodge traffic on the way back north and honestly, this was a pretty solid choice! Let me start with the reason you should absolutely go: the seasonal watermelon margarita. It's made with fresh muddled watermelon and St-Germain, and it's hands-down one of the best seasonal cocktails I've had in a long time. If you drink, get it. If you don't drink, get it anyway since they have a non-alcoholic version that's still amazing. Pro tip: ask for tahín on the rim instead of salt or sugar. Thank me later. Only downside: I noticed the fresh watermelon was being left out, uncovered, with flies nearby. They cut it right before garnishing a drink, which is fresh... but maybe too fresh? I skipped asking for more watermelon in my glass after seeing that. Definitely something management could fix with a little better food safety practice. Food-wise, I tried a tamale with green sauce instead of the usual pork topping. However not mind-blowing, but solid comfort food. Chips came out a little bland and left a weird aftertaste, but the salsa was tasty and made up for it. We sat at the bar, and while the bartender was clearly new, he was super friendly and provided good service. He was honest about being new, which I appreciated, and still kept the drinks coming without a hitch. All in all, I'd definitely come back. Especially to try more of their happy hour drinks. But that watermelon margarita? Seriously unforgettable. Go for that alone. Just maybe skip the fruit garnish if you're squeamish like me. read more

We were seated immediately for a midday lunch. Always a nice location at the Stonebridge shopping center. Lively upbeat music you'd expect at a Mexican restaurant. Menu has a lot of Tex-Mex favorites, but we specifically came for the crab and shrimp enchiladas. They came without the beans we ordered, but they brought them out later. My sister didn't like the chips- I did. The salsa was okay. The enchiladas were not good-- my sister couldn't eat hers. The server called the Manager who came to ensure she got an option she liked and that it was prepared exactly as she asked. The guacamole appetizer we ordered came after I'd gotten more than halfway through the meal, but it was good. Two of us were splitting the check, but instead we were charged double- lol. In the Stone Ridge Shopping center so a couple parking lots and street parking. I made reservations for 2 for 5 PM on a Friday night and we probably didn't need it. Seemed a little quiet but it was nice overall. I have been to a couple Uncle Julios but never this one. We ordered the fajita nachos for an appetizer, it took awhile for our server to come back for us to ask for appetizer plates. Nachos were good, but it was mostly chicken and melted cheese over individual chips. For dinner I ordered the steak fajita. The tortillas it came with were great. I ordered the steak medium but part of it was rare and part seemed more medium well but overall ok. There was a lot of onions for the fajita. I'd probably come back to try some of the margaritas and other food. My friend ordered the taco salad and that looked delicious. read more

Reserved a lunch date at on Resy, super easy and convenient to make sure we were set for lunch at Uncle Julio's. Cool atmosphere in the place. We were greeted at the door and immediately brought to our table. Staff were nice and brought 2 salsas for our chips, really liked that. Ordered some drinks that were made and brought out promptly, great presentation on them for being outside peak hours...also quite strong, be careful!..Lol Our food came out quickly and it looked delicious...the wife's carnitas fajitas was reported as very delicious. I ordered "Pablos" and the beef taco reminded me of only the finest of Taco Bell crunchy tacos. The Tamale was okay, very small unfortunately. All in all, not bad. At no fault of the host staff, the restaurant leaves its online reservation book open to bookings even when the place is overbooked, leading to a multitude of ruined date nights on Valentine's Day. This was a terrible management decision. Additionally, tables went uncleaned for the hour that I was there waiting for my reservation. TLDR: Uncle Julio's peaks as soon as you walk through the door, and it's all downhill after that. Lack of attention to detail plagued our experience. Our server was the only good part. Spend your money elsewhere. I really want to like this place, as it seems to want to be an upscale Tex Mex experience. But it falls short and it starts with the management I saw. The floor was understaffed for the Friday before Valentine's Day and our server was really doing his level best to keep up with too many tables. A manager ran his food to our table, but it was not hot. Kids fries and chicken tenders x 2 were just warm. My cochinita was almost cold and very dry. And to add insult to injury, the manager said he would return with ketchup for the kids, but never did (which how do you forget ketchup for 2x chicken tenders and fries?) Instead, I saw the manager walking around casually, conversing loudly and laughing without a care while his service team was struggling. This is our second and last time eating at Uncle Julio's. Host: they were just fine. Not great. They seated our 6-top with no silverware. We ultimately had to ask for silverware because the manager who forgot our ketchup also didn't bring us silverware. Food: great flavor for chicken fajitas and tortillas. Otherwise, overcome by the fact cochinita was dry and cold. Bar service: this place has zero draft beer.... Service: our server was great. I hope he gets a better job somewhere else. Ambiance: looks great on the surface, but finer details are troubling. Within the front door by the host stand, there was a robust kerosene-like smell that was very unpleasant and unappetizing. The Tortilla soup is really good! The chips are extremely salty you have to drench in salsa to mask the salty taste. I tried pulled chicken tortilla bowl for the first time that was really good a must try! The resturant is really nice inside they have Mexican music playing and it's very chill environment during lunch time. I placed an order for pickup and unfortunately, most of it was missing. All I received was the chicken/steak fajitas and chips--none of the sides were included. I had ordered fajitas, but there were no tortillas, rice, or beans, and I even paid extra for an additional order of tortillas, which I also didn't receive. I tried calling, but the phone line was down or never rang. After working all day, I had to drive 20 minutes to pick up my food, only to find that most of my order was missing. I ordered the chicken and steak fajitas--$26 for a small portion that wouldn't even come close to what you'd get at a real Mexican spot for less, and without the sizzling presentation. My wife had the Baja fish tacos, and you could taste the old oil. Same thing with the chicken fingers my kids ordered--you could tell the oil needed to be changed. I love that they have outdoor seating especially now that it's starting to get nice out. Another plus is happy hour starts at 3! Food was yummy. I preferred the mango margarita over the swirl margarita it just had a better taste and easier to drink. The taco appetizer was yummy. Took on more than they could chew. Specific reservations had to wait an hour just to be seated. I just think that if you're going to have reservations reserve to your company's capabilities not just to get more people in. Yes it was Valentine's Day in business is booming on that day but having everybody stand in the lobby cuz they're too afraid that they won't be called when it's their turn because of their franticness of the staff being overwhelmed. It was so packed nobody can move once they got in the door. If they would apply pagers of some sort it can cut down the crowdedness within the establishment. Took guests for lunch on Sunday and was so disappointed. First the menu is changed and the dishes that made Julio's taste unique (horn of plenty taco salad, smoky flavor pintos, Jalisco fajitas etc) are gone. The tortillas were thick and not rolled out so small that my nephew said they were like the ones in his Lunchables! When I showed it to the waiter he just said, "Yeah, it's because there are made from scratch but I can get you some store bought ones if you like." The fajitas, pintoes and rice were no better than you can get at any hole in the wall on Route 1 for $15, definitely not worth $28 it cost! Even the table side guacamole was terrible, inch long onions, no acid or taste to speak of but onions. This place has gone down hill and we will not be returning. read more

The restaurant wasn't that busy at all but the poor hostess was swamped without help. I got my order and taco salad shell was nearly completely broken. The hostess wanted me to wait for her to take it to the back to switch it out but that was more time wasted so I took it myself. Then I realized the flour tortillas were missing. I get home and the salad looks old. There's no avocado. The ground beef is oily and dripping grease. They really did a poor packaging and prep job.
