Chocolate piñata
Lisa M.

We had a reservation and arrived a bit early. I think they were understaffed for the day though because it seemed like there were a few reservations but all waiting to be seated. This was fine but it did seem a little slow due to that fact. Our server said it was their first day haha so we weren't expecting much, but even though they had a bit of a rough start they did great overall--pretty attentive all things considering. I'd say the portions are pretty generous, and you can share a platter. The chips are light and crispy while the salsa has a unique robust flavor to it--maybe roasted peppers? Our kids really enjoyed it. They offer kids meals, but our kids actually ate more of our dishes than their own! My husband ordered shrimp fajitas, and the shrimp were flavored pretty well, but we just thought they'd be bigger. I shared a chicken and steak fajita with my mom, and the chicken was really tender--I was surprised. The skirt steak was pretty good too; our kids really liked the meats. I'd say the food is fine, but definitely feels more Mexican American. If you want to go somewhere for a nice get together but not fancy, then this is a great option. The main draw though is probably the chocolate piñata! This was a super fun and unique experience. Our server was so nice and gave our 2 kids their own little bat. Everything seems made from dark chocolate too or something less sweet than milk chocolate, which I appreciated! It's this chocolate ball that's hung, and inside is fresh fruit and churro. The board had cinnamon, dipping chocolate, and whipped cream. You crack open the chocolate piñata and then the fruit and churro bites spill out and you dig into it! So much fun. I would honestly come here just for this dessert.

I've been visiting various uncle Julio's locations all across the Chicagoland area for over 25 years and this is my first visit to the Schaumburg location. Came on a Sunday afternoon for lunch and also got enticed by an online coupon for $20 off as well. I haven't been back to an uncle Julio's in a while only to find out on this visit that the menu has drastically been overhaul and simplified. And I don't think it's been simplified for the better quite frankly because my usual menu item the Jalisco is no longer available. The drink menu continues to be a staple, and it is very vast. The good part is that the portions remain almost the same, which is very generous, considering that the prices are also higher. Also good that the chips and salsa continues to be unlimited as well. On this particular day and visit, our waiter was so incredibly friendly and fantastic !!! I would definitely come back here again not because I know the food or because it's consistent but for some reason the service this particular Sunday was on point !!!

Piñata with churros and strawberries-- it was very good!!!

This place I would recommend! It's very well maintained and the food is amazing! The service was great as well! They are very positive and kind! This place was really pleasant to eat at. Scenery was pretty! I recommend! It's just I'm not quite sure about the restrooms, floor is strangely sticky, but overall it was amazing here!

Ground beef tacos- delicious!

This was my first time at any Uncle Julios and I was very impressed. We received a warm greeting by who I believe is the manager, and seated promptly in a booth as preferred. Our waiter was friendly and attentive which we also appreciated. As for the food, all three of thought our food was great! For me I enjoy a simple beef tacos, which can be difficult to find as most places offer chicken and steak (but not ground beef). The flavor was outstanding! My daughter enjoyed her quesadilla and my wife her enchiladas. Wonderful experience and I can't wait to visit this or another Uncle Julios location.

Perhaps because it is located inside a shopping mall, its prices are higher than those of nearby Mexican restaurants; however, the culinary experience it offered me was actually inferior to that of the other Mexican restaurants.

Trendy bar and musicians too loud!

Uncle Julio's was a pleasant surprise tonight! We stopped in after hitting up Woodfield mall. We sat at the bar since it was empty. The decor is trendy and the music volume was soft so we could talk without yelling! The bartender took our orders immediately and checked up on us numerous times throughout the night. I got the chicken fajitas and my wife got the cassbiria. The fajitas were juicy and seasoned very tastefully. The chips and salsa were excellent and even the spicy one wasn't very hot. My wife liked her cassebiria but said it was slightly dry. It does come with broth though. Overall, we really enjoyed Uncle Julio's. Good service, good pricing, and good atmosphere. Oh, the meals will fill you up. You can easily split them! Definitely check them out

My wife and I have been going to this restaurant for a few years have not been disappointed . Our service /bartender has been awesome great service very professional and friendly. Makes a mean margarita so if you can't get a table go in and sit at the bar, especially at happy hour 3 to 6 pm the hole drink menu is half price and the Guadalajar for two is the way to go kudos to Barbara and her crew keep up the good work will return

Cheese & Onion Enchiladas

5 stars for Uncle Julio's in Woodfield Mall. Uncle Julio's is a nice dine-in Tex-Mex restaurant. They have table side guacamole where the server makes it in front of you - delicious. I had the combination meat fajitas that were very good and I also had the onion and cheese enchiladas very tasty. For desert, I tried the chocolate piñata full of pineapple, strawberries and churros. Highly recommend a visit, great customer service as well manager and servers all very friendly.

Two tacos ready and waiting!

Are all those smokey drinks alcoholic?

Our new -321 Margarita is available either with or without tequila. And the puffs are non-alcoholic. Both ways are a great drink and a lot of fun. Enjoy!

Any difference between this site versus the site in Skokie at Old Orchard Mall?

Full…read moredisclosure, I'd popped into their Bloomingdale spot when it first opened and it didn't quite hit the mark for me back then, so I wasn't really planning on a return visit. But then my wife mentioned they had a samosa taco and honestly, that was all it took. I was intrigued enough to give the Schaumburg location a shot, and boy, am I glad we did. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted by Nagesh, who was an absolute star. He was so genuinely friendly and super helpful. I usually like to get recommendations, and he totally delivered with some fantastic suggestions. He also casually mentioned their app has a cool deal where you get $7 off your first order if you sign up for to go. We decided to dine in that night, and Nagesh smoothly guided us through everything pointing out the big menu on the screen and also handing us a smaller one to look over at our table. He just told us to take our time and come up to order when we were ready, which was really nice and relaxed. I went for the three taco dinner, which comes with rice and your choice of refried or black beans. Heads up, if you go for one of their specialty tacos in the dinner, it's an extra dollar per taco, but totally worth it. My first taco was the steak, and wow, it was phenomenal. The meat was incredibly tender, packed with flavor, and had that perfect char you dream of. Next up was the Chingon taco steak and chorizo with melted cheese, Yes please. The combination of the char on the steak and the kick from the chorizo really made that one sing. For my third taco, I usually steer clear of Al Pastor, but Nagesh really sold me on it when I asked him about it and you know what. My mind was blown. The Al Pastor was incredible, and the pineapple was just perfect. Seriously, I haven't had an Al Pastor taco that good in years, Taco Maya just set a new standard for me. That samosa taco. Pure genius, Who would have thought those flavors would work so perfectly in a taco. My wife tried the paneer taco and loved hers too, which is always a good sign. We also swung by the salsa bar, which was super clean and had a great selection to customize our tacos. My favorite the jalapeno salsa. We also shared an order of Nachos Supreme, piled high with steak, and they were really good overall. If I had one tiny suggestion, it would be to add a little more refried beans and queso, but that's just a personal preference. The only slight disappointment was the guacamole it tasted a little flat and was a bit on the darker side, so it could use a brighter, fresher note. honestly, those tacos and Nagesh's service made our night. We absolutely loved everything else and are already planning our next trip back. Oh, and I almost forgot to mention, they've got tequila drinks and beer buckets too if you're looking for a little something extra and there's music and tv's to watch while you wait.

They had a wide variety of tacos flavors from classics to signature flavors. They also had 5 veggie options! My husband and I knew we had to order their new "soft serve margarita". They had strawberry, mango, or swirl flavors. We got the swirl and it was presented with a Tajin rim and fruit garnish. Although it lists it had alcohol in it, it definitely just tasted like ice cream. Still delicious! For food, I got 2 ground beef tacos and the Chili Potato taco. I loved the ground beef flavor but the chili potato was a bit spicy for me. My husband got the Signature, Birria, and Chicken Tikka tacos. The Signature was by far his favorite followed by the Birria. The Chicken Tikka taco was ok. We arrived when there was a lull in busyness but staff seemed a bit flustered. We had to correct the woman working the cash register twice as she was punching in the wrong flavors. When our food came, we were offered the wrong order twice as well as I got the wrong toppings on mine. One gentleman was quick to step in and correct the situation. We got our correct orders and they gave the two wrong tacos to us complimentary. Overall, this is a great fast casual Mexican spot. I like that you can visit multiple times and still have new items to try.

The waiter and the lady at the register were both super friendly and welcoming, which always makes for a great experience. Okay, onto the specifics, I started with a burrito de asada, and seriously, it was perfect. It was put together so nicely, packed full, and they even included rice inside, which was a delicious surprise. Super satisfying and felt like great value for the price. Then I branched out and tried a couple of their gorditas one with steak and another with chorizo. Again, both meats were incredibly tasty and really well prepared. Now, a little heads up, their gorditas are a bit unique. Instead of the usual pouch you stuff, they cut the entire top off, so it's more like an open faced sandwich. It was different, but honestly, it was still super delicious and easy to eat. We also shared a taco dinner, and those were fantastic too. The prices overall are really reasonable, especially for the quality you're getting. Oh, and you absolutely must try their horchata, it's seriously good and so refreshing. The place itself is pretty chill. They have a TV on, and it was generally quiet, which is nice for a relaxed meal. It's not a huge spot, with a few tables and booths, but what really caught my eye was how many people were coming in for takeout orders. That's always a good sign that it's a popular local favorite. Honestly, if you're ever looking for a top notch taco shop nearby, this one is probably one of the best I've encountered. You definitely won't be disappointed.
