I have been to this location several times. The only thing that is consistent is their lack of trained waiters and waitresses.

I came here to sit in the bar room on 3/25 and had Kelvin serve my friend and I. He made our night so fun and was ridiculously friendly. We were the 3rd family seated once they opened today and waited over 15 mins with noone even taking our drink order. We were looked at by 2 separate waitresses multiple times but no service. We had a reservation for 6:15pm and didn't get seated until 6:45pm. The host/hostess kept saying they're putting our table together. They seemed like they didn't really care much about anything. We finally got seated and they brought out chips and salsa. The salsa was pretty plain. It wasn't spicy and didn't have much flavor other than a little smokiness. Our server was amazing in memorizing our orders. He memorized 10 orders with customizations. The steak fajitas for two had good portions. The steak was juicy and the pieces with some fat were the best in my opinion. The tortillas were also thicker than I'm used to, but still yummy. We also got the chocolate lovers piñata. My husband + I stopped going here after a while. We just kept giving them chance after chance. This last time we went (last week), we went only bc we had a gift card. From calling it in + the food finally ready, it was 35 min. That's a long time for take out. While driving away, my husband was going through the bag checking out order. He pulled out the guacamole + I quickly turned around. I'm tired of paying $9 for the tiny amount of guac they give us every time. We went back + I talked to the manager + told her that the amount of guac given for $9 is ridiculous. She tried to make excuses, but then finally asked what she could do for us. She gave us another thing of guac. Oh, and all the lettuce in there that they put at the bottom - ridiculous. Sure their excuse might be, "Oh it keeps the guac fresher." I don't care. It's too much. I should've checked everything in the bag while I was at the restaurant. When we got home, my husband opened my order + there was the tiniest amount of rice I had ever seen in any take out. Some stuff were hit-and-miss. Def will go back to try a few other items because the good stuff was really good. Churrasco fajitas were excellent. Carnitas tacos were good, but the soft corn tortillas were pretty dry. I'd stick with the homemade flour tortillas at this place, they were very good. Uncle Julio's, what can I say? Yet ANOTHER chain restaurant here in Gainesville. First of all, the restaurant is beautiful. It is very spacious. The bathrooms were clean. The outdoor patio looked to be a nice place to sit down, relax, and enjoy a meal. Our service was very good. You couldn't throw an avocado without hitting a server. They were everywhere, and ready to serve. For a newer restaurant, I wasn't expecting this. First came the chips and salsa, both of which were hot in temperature. The salsa had a smokey flavor. This appy was fresh and easy on the taste buds. I ordered the Cozumel Shrimp Tacos. The menu mentioned mango and habanero. This is a great combo...except here at Tio Julio's. I was expecting "sweet heat," instead I got bland. I could not detect ANY habanero. Also, the "hand made tortillas" were very rubbery. I ate with a table of eight. The overwhelming sense was that of "nothing to write home about." Everything was "fine." Give this place a shot yourself, maybe you will enjoy it. I, however, am in no rush to go back. read more

My husband and I try to stop by here whenever we are in Gainesville. We've always had delicious food and good service. However, this latest visit was spectacular service, which leads me to leave this review. We came on Friday evening with our dog, so we sat outside. I ordered the quesabirria. Our food came, but there was no dipping sauce with my meal. Nick, our waiter, who had been amazing all evening was so apologetic and removed the meal from our ticket. I felt awful and hadn't requested this, but he insisted. This guy needs a raise! He was so attentive all evening, gave our dog water, was sweet with our kids. I love the food from this place but the staffing could use a revamp. I picked up a to go order which was completely incorrect (the receipt on the outside of the bag was correct.) When I called, I was told they would issue a refund. I've called 3 times now and keep getting the same answer, "it takes time for refunds to go through". It has now been almost a month. Very friendly hostess & server. However we were terribly misinformed about the amount of wait time.... First told 15 minutes, then told 30-45 minutes, and after an hour told another 15-20 minutes. We finally got someone to seat us as we had two very hungry children.. the new hostess was super friendly and definitely understood how stressed/hungry we were! Rest of the night went fine, however I don't know if it would all be worth waiting so long again. The food was good but nothing particularly memorable. The ambiance is nice, though a lot of tables I passed by (and ours) smelled sort of like dingy washcloth. There was a little wait, but I didn't mind as it was really busy and the staff was friendly and working their hardest. It does irk me when some restaurants just stand around. Absolutely the worst customer service from the hostess. Placed us at a booth which had food and drinks spilled all over them. She asked my wife and I if the booth was ok. I explained it wasn't. She said we could sit at the booth next to it. I had to explain to her it was worse then the first booth and I did not want to sit at a table. She then got a broom and dust pan and cleaned the floor underneath the table. She then commenced to use the same broom and sweep the seats. When she was done she asked if it was ok now. I had to tell her she used the same broom on the seats. She then got a wet rag from the kitchen area and made some snide comments to an employee who was sitting at a table. After we told her the seats were wet and we couldn't sit down, she got paper towels from the kitchen and wiped the seat. We had to stand there and wait for our seats to dry. My wife apologized to our waitress and explained we weren't trying to annoy the hostess. She then went to whom I believe was a very young manager and the hostess and said something. At which time they all started looking towards us. The manager then went to the back kitchen area, started joking with the staff loudly and playing some sort of game. The loud language coming from them wasn't suited to a family restaurant. Maybe the General Manager should review some videos. First impressions are lasting impressions. A hostess should be friendly and caring, not irritable and annoyed at a legitimate request. It's really a shame! We have been here several times and love the food, but we wont be coming back again. read more

I went to this place my friends twice. The food and service were great. Their staff were so friendly and answered all our questions with details. We ordered steak fajita and chicken enchiladas. The steak fajita was so great that we all ordered it the second time that we went there. However, the chicken enchiladas was not good at all. We also ordered chocolate pinata which was so good and fun to break it. We were five people and one chocolate pinata was more than enough. The reasons that I gave this place 4 stars are, it is a little bit dark in the restaurant and also they serve water in plastic tumblers which is not appealing. Also, this place is crowded during weekends so make sure to make a reservation. read more

We thought there were equal or better places in the local area for Mexican. This had the "Bone Fish" look and appeal, especially the prices if that is your scene. It's not ours. You can easily drop $50-$75 on dinner here. Other places nearby would be half, but then again, it just wasn't our scene. You decide. read more

However- once we were seated and given a menu by our seat attendant (not server) we were excited to glance over the menu. We had been waiting at our table for someone to provide us water and order an appetizer.. about 15min goes by and NO ONE has come over. Not even to bring is water- not to tell us they apologize for the wait or to let us know our waitress would be coming soon: NOTHING. Extremely disappointed and now leaves me with a bad taste in my mouth. We got up and left after 20 minutes waiting. Figures it wouldn't even matter to mention our disappointment to the manager since their staff is probably the best indicator for how they choose to service clients. Poor service. My family and I ate at Uncle Julio restaurant in Gainesville VA for mother day ,we ordered steak and chicken Fajita's .It was terrible The staek was flat cut from the lowest grade meat chewy and no taste what so ever .some pieces of the chicken was not cooked .it had no spices and no tast at all . I used to like this place a lot and I would come with my girlfriend almost every weekend, but during Covid their menus were shortened by a lot and the food looks thrown together without effort, they also went lighter on the portions but haven't changed their pricing. Great food, love the chips and salsa. I do feel though they can expand their menu a little more . Not a lot of options. You either get a carne asada or fajitas it's pretty much boring. I will say the kids menu is pretty good. I had a frozen sangria with my meal that I would recommend. One thing I don't recommend is eating outdoors. It may be a beautiful day out but don't do it. The little breeze that comes will have the things on your table blown away. Another reason for not eating outside is the love of bees, my poor baby and another child got stung by one. read more

This has got to be the worst meal and we had quesadillas for my daughter which were really delicioso. I had two small cheese and onion Burritos, pintos and raw, (not cooked onions) and blah cheese with chili sauce on top! The Salsa is watery and overpowered with agave or cilantro, not good! Pinto beans also tasted like chili powder and cilantro, not good! Wife had a fajita and tea, good 2 of 3 not bad huh! I had a beer and then a coke as my daughter had! $88 rediculous! Half the food of El Vaquero West and twice as much for three people. Wife and I pay $25-$28 at Vaquero West for great fajitas or quesadillas! Failed to take pictures and won't be back to get them! I came to visit a friend and his family week ending 2/18/23. We weren't able to get into a different restaurant that they like, so we went here. It was a BIG mistake. There was 8 of us. The waitress sat us down. There was only serving for 4 at the time, but she said she was going to bring them. She at first started off the conversation with that she was new!!! I knew it wasn't going to go well at that point. We ordered drinks, and had asked fir water fir everyone. She brought the wrong wine to the table. I asked for a chilled glass for my Beer. She didn't come back for almost 20 minutes. Never came back to fill the water glasses, never brought the chilled glass . She bc was clueless. We asked for silverware for the other 4 people, and had to steal some off another table bc she didn't come back with anything. We ordered dinner almost 45 minutes later. Most of the dinners were fine. She didn't bring a plate for me to be able to make my fajitas, I had to ask another waiter. I asked for a manager and asked to have a different waiter or waitress bc the other was inept. Ron came over and was terrific. They comped our dessert and the wrong glass of wine, which was nice of them. I left off the name of the waitress bc I think she knows she was terrible. She had glasses. Worst service ever on a date night with the wife. We got seated immediately and sat down to be greeted by our server. I will leave his name out and wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't work there anymore. Took our drink order and off he went. He returned 15 minutes later after witnessing him walk around and converse with every other employee only to ask what we ordered as he forgot. I kindly informed him and another 10 minutes before we got the drinks we ordered. Not off to a great start but i stayed optimistic. The food only made it worse and sealed my opinion to never eat here again. Steak was about a quarter inch thick and reminded me of leather it was over cooked beyond what dogs would eat. Save your money and hit one of the other restaurants nearby. I sure hope the waiter gets parenting on how to become a young man and obtains some work ethic. Customer service is what you do and maybe you switch to a stockroom at nights where you have no customer interaction. read more
