Brand new and vintage records alike are here, not every new record, but a fun eclectic mix of the old. That record I remember from when my folks were kids? Found it! The album artwork is amazing, and I didn't even get to the bins on the floor. My kid loves anything Stranger Things and she found some success here too. Obligatory Uncle Joes stickers were by the register, and the staff were friendly without hovering. You are almost exactly behind Cromwell Diner so if you're in Central CT this isn't far, but park with care in tiny angled lot, Can't wait to dig around another time soon. read more

I love small local businesses. I stopped in on a Sunday. There was a $1.00 buy get one free sale. There was a wide selection of all different types of records. There is also a small coffee shop attached to the store. The staff was very welcoming. I was able to play some of my records before purchasing the staff also wiped off a few of the records before I purchased them. I love small businesses like this one. It reminds me of my childhood memories. read more

Uncle Joe provided great and quick service via the Discogs app. Shipping was great overall, but the best part of it was the quality of the Metallica album. Its not about my "budget" Joe. Although that is nice backhanded way of saying someone's cheap. I spend about 300 to 400 a week on vinyl. I have an "open budget". The stores that charge reasonable prices know me well. All of the records i chose not to buy from you due ro their price and poor condition i found two days later in NYC or at another area store in far better condition for 1/3 the price. You missed an opportunity to gain a regular enthusiastic loyal customer. read more

If you want to run over to Uncle Joe's you may doubt you have the correct address, because you won't see a strip mall or even a stand alone store. Instead you'll see a residential building in a residential neighborhood. But trust your GPS, turn into the driveway, and you'll find Uncle Joe's in the back of the building. It's part used record store and part coffee shop, so that gets Uncle Joe bonus coolness points right off the bat. They have a big selection of used vinyl LPs and a section with the old 45s too. As part of our downsizing and decluttering mission, I thought it was time to say goodbye to my hundreds of record albums. I brought 100 of them over to Uncle Joe's for an assesment. In case you have some records to sell, here's the process: drop off your records at the shop, Joe will look at them by the next morning, then someone from the store will reach out with my offer. If you accept Joe's offer, they'll pay you directly with Venmo, check or through Cash App. If you don;t like the offer, or if Joe's doesn't like your records, you just go back to Cromwell and get them back. Joe was away for a week when I dropped off my records, but Olivia took our information. A few days later, the store manager Eden called us and made an offer I accepted. I would never shop in Uncle Joe's record store ever again. The owner called the cops on me. Said I was in the store too long. The owner said he was, remotely, watching me (voyeurism) thru cameras the entire time I was in the store. How wierd is that? I waited for the cop(s). Told the owner what he said to me was insulting...as an African American. Mind you, the owner was never present in the store the entire time I was shopping for records. (The new age of record store onwers.) When the cop arrived it didn't take him long to harass and badger me the entire time even after I left the store and was outside. ( I couldn't even put on my coat.) Cop was conferring with the owner if he should charge me with trespassing. My fate was left up to the owner. Let me be clear. After the owner had enough of being a voyeur he took it upon himself to jump into his jalopy to drive down to his store from wherever he was (Mars) to accost me. Burst into the store like there was a fire. Didn't even who know he was. I had to ask. Maga Connecticut. Too bad. The salesgirl was ultra nice. I never see color. Kinda glad I didn't give a review after my first visit a few months ago. That one would have been great. This visit... not so great. First visit the only negative would have been actually trying to find this place. No signage on the road and its in the back section of a house that from the road you won't see. I found it because I was turning around in the driveway. But that was the only negative. This visit. Wow! Not even sure it's the same place. In the few months since I visited, they reorganized part of the store. No biggie. Still a decent selection of new and used which is great. But I did notice this time there seems to be three prices. $1.00, 9.99, or 29.99. At least that was appearance for everything I looked at. Still, I did find a few to add to my collection. I will say I didn't shop the $1 sections at all. My knees and back wont let me stay cramped up like that for long periods of time. It's a shame, probably a lot of missed sales because the two aisles are so tight and older folks can't easily get down there. Anyway. The real negative was the clerk at the counter. You walk past him on the way in and despite greeting him, no response. Ok, even though I have a big voice, maybe he didn't hear me. No biggie. I handed him my stack and there was an album already on the counter that I asked about. He said he was posting it for sale online. I asked the price and he told me 9.99. I said great, I'll take it. It'll save you having to type everything into the ad. He said ok but he would have to make up a bar code for it (not sure why). Again, no biggie. There were a few boxes of albums on the floor that I asked if they could be looked through to which he said said so I started while he was doing the barcode. Oh this is 29.99 not 9.99. I was confused as he just quoted 9.99 and his response was he changed his mind as it was in better condition. The condition improved greatly in the 2-3 minutes I had been looking at the other albums. Nope. I'll pass. Nice try. Where I come from if you quote a price you can go down but not up. Shame too as for 9.99, it would've been a nice addition. The box I was looking at had a mix of priced (sleeved) and non priced (unsleeved). I asked about the nonpriced and oh those aren't for sale. Ok. Two strikes. When I stand back up to check out he takes one of the albums that I was buying and puts it behind him. I'm like what the hell??? Oh, that's my album. No. I'm trying to buy that and there is another copy in the bin so... Totally negative experience. The bait and switch price. All of these are for sale except the ones you want to know about. And you can't buy this one, it's mine. Wow. Again, completely opposite experience. read more

I recently started collecting vinyl again like the old days, (80s). What I was not interested in, is buying brand new albums for $30. I can do that at places like Walmart. What I wanted was a selection of older albums, used, and buy more original albums. I have no issue with brand new. But I want to buy some of the older stuff used. Stuff that u won't find at Walmart. Like Paul McCartneys Red Rose Speedway or Dire Straits self title debut album. And Uncle Joes had them and more. Great selection of older stuff in many genres as well as new stuff freshly printed. I rarely leave reviews, let alone for record shops, but I gave this place a visit after seeing the 5 star reviews and felt the need to give an honest review.. I think one reviewer put it best "What I was not interested in, is buying brand new albums for $30". Well, if you're interested in paying $30 for used vinyl that is in terrible shape, then you are in luck! The selection of new vinyl is extremely limited and everything else is used vinyl. Which is fine, except that there seems to be little to no quality control concerning the used vinyl. Literally every single record that I took out of the sleeve (and most of the outer sleeves of these records unfortunately were damaged with water or mold or just in bad quality be it past owners name being scribbled over it, old stickers, etc.) to give a quick inspection had scratches and blemishes. It honestly didn't seem like any of these records were even inspected. I get the feeling that whatever the owner buys in bulk they just put it out on the floor without checking the quality beforehand. On top of that, the pricest are ridiculous. If I am going to pay for a water/mold damaged record, I expect to pay between $1-5.. Not $30-50.. I have never seen this in any record stores before. I understand paying a lot for used records (see Gerosa Records) but you expect the quality control to be what you pay for. Also, there's supposed to be some trust between the customer and the owner (one really shouldn't have to inspect every vinyl to make sure it's not in terrible condition if it's marked as $40+--when used records cost that much money there's an understanding that the owner has thoroughly inspected and cleaned the record and the sleeves to the best of their abaility). Aside from that, the place is cozy and the employee couldn't have been nicer--it's just a shame that you'd have better luck at a garage sale finding vinyl. read more
