I collect a lot of vinyl and this is one of the best places around to get near- mint-condition used vinyl for great prices. I'm into a lot of 80s New Wave, so I came out with a few albums in that category (some for under $10 each), one from Springsteen that was $10, and then even a couple of classical composers for $4 each. And guess what? Not a scratch on any of them! (Here's the catch: A couple records skipped in more than one place in the same song, though I realize skips are par for the course with used records. Not that I don't trust the grades given to the records on the price tags, but there should be a way to test out the records before you pay for them.) The owner is very kind and helpful. It's a small store packed with a lot of records that are alphabetized (which helps if you're looking for something specific) in their respective categories. The place can seem a little claustrophobic and could use a clearing out of the boxes and crates of records on the floor that can make maneuvering difficult and browsing a bit uncomfortable. Yes, the owner generously cleared one area so I could have a better look at a particular genre, but he shouldn't have to do that. The boxes and crates on the floor plus the skipping on some of the albums are the only reasons I'm giving four stars instead of five. Overall, Replay offers better quality and prices than some other used vinyl shops I've visited in both New Haven and Fairfield Counties. It's worth conquering your claustrophobia, I promise, and you're bound to find something you're searching for as well as something you didn't even know existed. read more

I got into record collecting around 2011, shortly before Cutler's in New Haven closed. Options were looking pretty scarce, until I came upon Replay Records and I have to say a good portion of my collection is now from there. Even after an 8 year excursion to NYC, I'd still prefer to go to Replay, as it's small but unpretentious. Pairs quite nicely with a trip to Glennwood for a burger and a dog. read more

This place deserves 10 stars. Such a little gem with GREAT selections. I spent 3 hours in this place and still felt like it was not enough. I was not only looking through the records but talking with the owner which he is super knowledgeable and enjoys talking with people. You definitely leave learning at least something from him. His prices are amazing for the selection he has. He is constantly getting new records so you definitely will find some gems in his collection. He is beyond helpful and I don't feel the need to even visit another record shop. This place definitely has the genuine feel. Don't bother anywhere else! DEFINITELY STOP IN HERE! People who wish to sell records to this dude beware. My experience Pennies on the dollar if that's what you wish to receive. You could have a rare, mint LP and he will give you a crappy offer, insulting. Instead of being a decent businessman he does what a lot of other swindlers do and that's first trying to perceive your naiveté. If you decline his offer he gets like a whiney little baby, so the creep insults you more for your supposed lack of music knowledge. as he turns his back and walks away. I spent hundreds there and do not wish to experience the guy with a personality of a fork. again. My money will be spent elsewhere. read more

You know the record guy who's a walking musical history encyclopedia, who knows everything there is to know about prog and kraut rock, who is slightly fearful of technological advances and thinks his scuffed up and faded oldies are each a treasure but he has a heart of gold and will happily bend your ear about anything you're into and will always remember your name? Yeah, that's this place. There's a shop like this everywhere. As a music-lover, I enjoy spending time with the owners of these types of record shops because I will inevitably learn a thing or three at every stop but I struggle to find something to buy that is appropriately priced or that is to my taste. Replay charges collector prices for pieces that are in varying conditions and has almost exclusively classic rock and jazz, so not much of what we were looking for on this trip. He was, however, a very nice guy who knows his music, if only of a certain era/genre. If you're looking for 50s-70s rock, this place could be perfect, it just wasn't for me. read more

Good solid shop for 50s-80s pop and rock, and a good selection of jazz as well. That pretty much is my wheel house tho I didn't have the time to check the classic "country section" which was small if I recall. The prices are competitive-not overly high or low (the guy's got overhead), and the owner is great-played me an entire Sinatra LP after I told him my story about the great looking copy I got online that sounded like dreck. His sounded great by the way and now it's mine. Will be back; next time I want to bring some LPs for sale and check Replay's purchasing acumen...lots of times that's worth an extra star... read more

The place is literally packed full of records. Great selection and reasonable prices. Just make sure you go in prepared to dig through boxes and crates. Owner is very knowledgeable and helpful, which is great considering how many records are packed into this little place. read more

I must say that this is the best used record store in CT. it has an excellent selection of LP's 45's along with a smaller selection of 8-tracks, cassettes and 78 rpm records. I have bought many records from here and have sold many records to Doug (the store owner) as well. Like Sam B said Doug really is a walking encyclopedia or musicologist whatever you want to call it because he really knows alot about music. read more

This place rocks! The owner is very helpful and you can see his passion for vinyl and music. I was looking for a Robert Gordon album. He mentioned he just got some stuff in let me have a look. Bam found one. It was one I never had. That alone was worth the trip. I was very excited. Keep independent record stores like this alive. I highly recommend this store. The records all have prices on them and are graded the usual vg, mint etc. It's just everything I love about a great record store. The prices are not bad at all. My only problem is I cant leave without at least dropping 100 or more. I will be back very soon. read more

it's hard for me to give any record shop a bad review, but I do think this place is a little hidden gem. You have to either go in knowing what you're looking for, or have some time to really flip through the bins and bins of vinyl. The owner is friendly and knowledgeable, and the pricing is fair. I think any vinyl collector will appreciate this small shop. read more

Doug @ Replay is a good guy, knows what he is selling, his prices are fair and everything that comes out of his store is cleaned and ready to play. I've never had a record from Replay skip or give me an issue. If I didn't find it at a tag sale, flea market or thrift store, Replay is where I've bought my records since around 2002 or so, when he was still in West Haven. He moved to Hamden a few years ago, in the Blessings II Go building on Whitney Ave. The parking isn't great, but it's fine for the type of business. I mean really, how many people could be in a vinyl record store at once? Anyway, he usually has a good selection from all genres, and if he doesn't have it he'll find it for you. Prices are good; most stuff I like comes in at between $5-8 dollars in NM condition, as compared to Merle's $12.99 for the same thing and hasn't been cleaned, etc... There is also the collectible stuff which is priced higher, but regardless it's in excellent condition if it's over $20. The only downside to Replay is the hours are a little off, and sometimes they're not there during regular business hours, but it's a small record shop and small price to pay for a small inconvenience. Hey, you could be getting ripped off at Cutlers or Merle's but why? read more

Hands down my favorite record store in CT. Someone else mentioned it's only good for 50's to 70's rock. I would add 80's rock to that list and there's a lot of other stuff here too. If you can't find it upstairs, you should ask if he has what you're looking for because he has a lot more stock in the basement he'll be happy to dig out for you. There's also the unescorted lower shelf where you can find some gems for just a dollar or two. These records won't skip, but the covers may not be quite as perfect as the ones on the upper level shelf that are already graded. There are a lot of bargains here, so take a look. read more

Great record store. You can find the more pricey Pink Floyd and other wanted ones at the top under their sections. On the bottom there are hundreds of $1-$2 records that range from Queen to Elton John. It does have a cat so watch out. read more
