History
Established in 2007.
Kaumudi is a chef, journalist and cookbook author. She was born in Poona, Maharashtra but spent her childhood in various parts of India and in Britain and North America. She lives in Southern California with her husband, Sanjiv and their 8-year old daughter, Keya.
She started Un-Curry in 2007 as a way to introduce the food of Maharashtra into the American consciousness because she believes its clean flavors and subtle spicing can translate well into the Western culinary ethos. Her cooking blends her native traditions with the fresh and wonderful ingredients of California.
For Kaumudi, food, family and memory are intertwined. Her first cookbook of Marathi food is titled Maharastrian Cuisine: A Family Treasury (Bombay: Zaika, BPI, 1999). Her latest cookbook is The Essential Marathi Cookbook, published by Penguin India. It features the rich culinary traditions of Maharashtra, offering a savory glimpse into the state, its regions, communities and religions.
