I would give this 3.5 if I could but I can't quite do 4. First off, very clean and welcoming place. Seated quickly and greeted nicely. Quick waters and service. New server but she did amazing and was very attentive. Service was 5/5 and so was the physical place. Oysters- half dozen, good price and they were delicious! Very clean, very large and the citrus combo was really delicious. No fishy smell, very fresh and highly recommend. 10 piece sushi- came with salad and miso soup. Salad was amazing. Not your typical just bagged lettuce and carrots. Fresh, came with strawberries, pineapple, beets and a nice dressing. The miso soup was also delicious. No tofu but did have seaweed and the taste was almost too salty but not actually over the line. Really enjoyed the miso soup. Here's where the lower score comes in. The actually sushi I was so disappointed in. After having such an amazing lead up, it just flopped. Rice to fish ratio was off, too much rice. Not sure if it even was sushi rice but there was something definitely off. The rice didn't hold its shape and it was dry and bland. Usually some mirin or rice vinegar is mixed to add a little hint of flavor but nothing. This led to the fish also being bland and dry? Can raw fish be raw? It wasn't inedible but it really had zero flavor at all. There was also too much wasabi, for my taste. I love nigiri but this was very disappointing. I would go back to try other food but I think the nigiri I will skip. Still if you're in the area, stop by and grab some food.

We were at Pismo area and was looking for a nice dinner place for my birthday weekend and decided on Umi The place is nice and quaint. They actually have an outdoor area but it was too cold to try it. Lol The food was very good. Very fresh ingredients. Our server was very attentive and was checking on us at a good pace.

Service was good. Rice was fresh, short rib was amazing. Sushi was okay, not great maybe it was the roll I got. Outdoor patio is really cute

    Chef's special

The BEST SUSHI ON THE CENTRAL COAST. The owner, yes a woman, makes sure everything is fresh & made from scratch including her sauces & salad dressings & she only buys the best fish for everything. Excellence at its finest Exactly what you would expect from a small mom& pop joint.

Service was super slow and really subpar. The food was awful. I'm genuinely surprised people go here for sushi.

The Asahi arrived in a frozen mug, which made it even more refreshing. We also ordered the Shell Beach Sunset roll, which had an amazing balance of raw and cooked fish, vegetables, and the added crunch of tempura flakes. All the flavors and textures worked perfectly together. The nine-piece sashimi was beautifully presented and incredibly fresh. For dessert, we had the tempura ice cream and the green tea cheesecake--both were absolutely delicious. Honestly, everything we ordered was fantastic. Our servers, Jasmine and Austin, truly killed it. They were friendly, attentive, and genuinely engaged throughout the meal. The restaurant itself had great lighting and décor, was spotless and well-maintained, even down to the restrooms. Parking was plentiful and free. Overall, we had a wonderful time with family and friends. An amazing experience and definitely worth coming back to.

It was plenty of food and we think it could feed three people easily (or take home leftovers). The mixed tempura was surprisingly good, but we didn't care for the seaweed or house salad. The rolls are always good and we really enjoyed trying most things at once. It's a fun way to try Kanpai! You don't need a reservation in a pair, but consider one if you're a bigger group. Otherwise, you're sat and served quickly. 3.8/5

Came in without reservations around 7:00pm and hostesses said it would be about a 30 min wait - they were both very friendly and offered any available seats at the bar as we waited. Pretty sure we ended up getting seated before 30 min and our waitress, Lizzie, came right up to ask for any drinks, brought us warm bread, and was back with our waters and drinks really fast! She took our order (gave us the extra time we needed to make up our mind without feeling rushed), set us up with small plates since we were sharing everything we ordered and in no time brought our food right out. We ordered: **Mussels but with the garlic/wine/butter sauce - We did not want that sauce to go to waste once we ate all the mussels. Lizzie gave us another basket of bread to get every last drip! **Dozen of the fresh oysters - They were so fresh and sweet! **Bowl of Clam Chowder - Yummm! Perfect thickness and seasoned perfectly **Fish and Chips - the fish was soooo fresh and melted in your mouth! **Seafood pasta - so good! Sauce was thicker than what I've but in a good way and covered the noodles magnificently! A good amount of seafood was in the dish - the scallops were the best! All in all, it was a great dinner! Food was on point, service was great throughout - very attentive and friendly, atmosphere was lively, price is very reasonable for the quality and amount of food we ordered. We will be definitely be back and would totally recommend this place to anyone visiting Pismo!

Rarely do I walk away from a dining experience where the quality of service and quality of food fight to outshine one another, but this was one of those spots. Our server, a German gentleman, was the consummate professional- always friendly, never overstepping, and added such a warm dimension to our meal. The fried green tomatoes and the white beet appetizers were standouts. I especially loved the vinegary dressing on the greens of the beet dish. For mains, we got the leek olive potato pizza, the ribeye, and the wood fire poached halibut. The avocado chimichurri that accompanied the ribeye was the perfect balance, and the sautéed greens under the fish were savory with the right amount of bite. I also liked their selection of mocktails; the pink pony club was a particular standout. All this for $200 was a better price tag than I was expecting, but most importantly, it got the stamp of approval from my notoriously picky grandmother and uncle. This spot is worth the drive.

Very nice pasta dish but a tad on the drier side. She liked it. I had the Pollo Al Mattone which is a half chicken cooked under a brick. Moist with an unbelievable flavor. The polenta slice was absolutely fantastic. The atmosphere is very pleasant. Wood fire smell, clean bathrooms, etc.

Probably one of the most expensive sushi places I've been to. $14 for a Cali hand roll. It was large and the rice had an odd sweet flavor to it? Wasn't a fan. I got the tonkatsu ramen. Only meat, onion, and added tofu. It said it would come with slices but it came with chunks of pork that was boiled.. I wanted the slices. The ramen itself was alright. The gyoza/potstickers were good. Probably my favorite. $9 side of kimchi... it was pretty good. Sadly I don't think I'll be back with these prices.

However, we were told that egg wasn't available at the moment and so we weren't able to taste that and saved an extra $2.50 off our bill (expensive for just one egg). We were told that since they just opened, the food would take longer than expected (roughly around 15-20 minutes). However, to our surprise it came in 10 minutes! Now for the food review, it was okay. The ramen was bland and not spicy at all. I had let the server know that it wasn't spicy as was promised and expected and if we could have some spice to add onto it. He came back with a little side of just chili oil, this was a regretful addition because we later found out that it's an additional $1.50 for such a small amount of chili oil, ridiculous. I don't think I'll be returning due to surge in additional prices that we were not aware of and the fact that the food wasn't good.
