Avoid at all costs. For several years, I found myself stuck in a frustrating cycle with BMW Ultimate Autowerks. I trusted them with my vehicle, but time after time, the same issue persisted: a dead battery. I would purchase a new battery through them, only for it to completely die within a year. Sometimes it was still under warranty--other times, I had to pay out of pocket, including costly towing fees, just to bring it back to their shop. Every visit, I explicitly asked them to investigate the root cause of the issue. I practically begged them to dig deeper--suggesting the alternator or starter as potential culprits. But their response was always the same: "it's just a battery issue." This explanation never changed, and they never offered further insight or resolution. On my final visit, not only did the shop keep my car for an extended period without proactive communication, but when I finally picked it up, I discovered that the battery hadn't even been reinstalled properly. Parts were carelessly left scattered throughout my trunk--completely unacceptable given how long they had the vehicle. Roughly a month or so later, the battery died again--this time while my car was at a body shop for a small dent repair. Just like before, it wouldn't jump. The body shop decided to investigate and found the real issue: a faulty starter. I was upset & hesitant to believe them , especially after being repeatedly told by BMW Ultimate Autowerks that the starter wasn't the problem. The body shop explained that diagnosing a starter issue in a BMW is tricky, but they were confident. And here's the kicker: they only charged me for the part and waived the labor because they could tell how frustrated I was. It's now been over a year since the starter was replaced, and I've had zero issues with the battery or vehicle performance. That confirms what I suspected all along--BMW Ultimate Autowerks misdiagnosed the issue for years. Between the misdiagnosis, poor communication, careless handling of my vehicle, and what feels like outright dishonesty, I cannot in good conscience recommend BMW Autowerks. They cost me years of inconvenience, stress, and unnecessary expenses--all of which could've been avoided had they taken the time to do the job right. read more

Brought my car here a few years ago and the got it running at an affordable price. Just a few weeks ago I brought my car in again to have them look at the issues in regards to the alerts on my dash. They said it was a bad water pump even though I had no signs of this such as, overheating or coolant leaks. I told them I just need my car in a position where I am able to get to and from work. Charged me $1500 for a water pump replacement. Read codes were cleared to satisfy why I brought it in there initially due to a "service engine soon" light, which came back on less than a week later. Not sure how a shop with master mechanics can overlook the missing gas cap I had, or the fact the rear shocks were completely shot, or the fact that the rear brakes were in desperate need of being replaced. Honestly just seems like they put in minimal effort on diagnosing my cars issues. Charles, all I gotta say is you and I both know my car was not in a position to be driving on a daily basis, all good, won't be returning. read more

Quality repair, done quickly with a great price I needed to get work done on an interior trim piece on my car. I didn't know if Ultimate AW did that sort of work, so I called Rick Hendrick. They told me it would be 3 weeks before they could even look at my car for an estimate. I happened to be picking up my wife's care from Ultimate AW and mentioned the problem. Charles immediately looked at it, ordered the part and before I left I had an appointment for the repair. The repair was done quickly and with top notch quality as always. This just convinces me more that there is nowhere else I will take my car for repair. I cannot say enough good things about these folks!!! read more

I had been looking for an alternative to my normal shop in Mt.P and found UA. They gave me a quick diagnostic over the phone based on what I was seeing and also what I should expect to pay for repairs. They were able to get my car in quickly (next day) and fixed the problem in just another day. Their prices were very reasonable and customer service and was excellent. Absolute nightmare. Took the car in to address the oil leak. He keeps the car for over 2 weeks without a call. 1 valve cover gasket. Why just 1? The rear brakes and an oil pan gasket are 2600 dollars. The car still leaked and started making noise during start-up. Took the car back and waited over 7 days as I watched cars go in and out every day passing the shop with no contact from this man. Then finally he answered and told me that I needed to get engine seals done for another 2000 bucks. The car never moved a week later. I finally got fed up and told Charles the owner that I was disappointed in his service and timeline. No way I should have had to go through that. I picked up the car and it was untouched since I dropped it off 7 days earlier. Asked for my key and took it to Everything European Shop. In and out the next day. Turns out valve cover gaskets were not changed. Missing screws, and low transmission levels. Replaced O ring for transmission filter. 189 bucks. Ended up selling the 750i to some great people after they saw the work done to the car.Ended up being worth more than I bought it for. I will never deal with Charles and this place again. He's hell a slow and evasive. Totally overcharged me. A small claim has been filed. He helped to add to the terrible BMW name and service. You can get the same thing done at the dealership or get greater faster service at Everything European in N. Charleston. Absolutely no price difference between Ultimate Auto and the dealership. Do better Charles. That was horrible. I can never recommend you to anyone. read more

Ultimate Autowerks is hands down the best independent shop I've ever found. Matt and Charles are both experienced, professional, and passionate. Every time I'm in for service, I end up talking cars with them. They do regular service, as well as Active Autowerke, Turner Motorsport, and custom performance work. I own a low mileage 2001 BMW M5 that I'm extremely picky about, and Matt built and installed a beautiful custom muffler delete exhaust system for it. When I asked him if he was the right guy for the job, he told me that if he did the exhaust, my car wouldn't leave his shop until the work was good enough to be on his own car. If you've seen his cars, you'd know that that carries some serious weight! I was getting compliments all day at a BMWCCA autocross at the BMW Performance Center in Greenville - some said it was the "best exhaust of the day". To top it all off, the entire exhaust job was less than $400. Look at the photos and decide for yourself if it was worth it. I've unfortunately moved away from Charleston, but if I were still in the area, this is the ONLY shop I'd trust with my M5. They're the most trustworthy and capable BMW technicians in the area. I was disappointed in the service I received at this repair shop. I took my car in to be serviced. The repair man asked me what was wrong with my car; I told him I needed him to check the car and tell me what was wrong. He insisted on asking what the car was doing; I informed him and from my verbal diagnosis he claimed he fixed my car. My care was worst after the service. I never made it out of the parking lot. I was charged again and the car lasted 1 day before the tow truck was called on the highway. They never checked my car to see what was really wrong, and to date the car is still not repaired. 800.00 down the drain and they claim the car is fixed. Go else where...anywhere but here!!!! read more

As a former Online Reputation Management Consultant, I know that people tend to trust in reviews that don't sound like an old friend or relative who will anything to help. I am, though, a consumer advocate who appreciates good value for my money. So, it is only because a 4 Star rating is trusted more than a 5 Star, and the fact that I've only been a customer of Ultimate Autowerks for the installation of sheepskin seat covers, and the hard wiring of a radar detector, that I've given them 4 Stars. I have a new 2016 X3 that is under warranty for everything except gas and tires, but I will be coming back to them for mechanical work once the warranty is up. First, Charles and Andrew (owners) were highly recommended to me by an independent Lexus service shop I trust down the road. Second, after researching a bit about pricing, Ultimate Autowerks was $10 per hour less for labor charges than at least one other independent BMW service shop in Charleston, SC. That savings can add up over time! Third, I can tell professional behavior (people who care about communicating well, and meeting customer expectations), and Dell and Debbie (the good people you meet up in front of the shop) along with the owners really try hard to please. The total bill for the above two things I had done was exactly what they had quoted me, even though my radar detector took much longer to install than estimated. The reason was they were trying to please me, as I wanted the radar detector to shut off with the engine being shut off. Well, with the new BMW's it is impossible, as all the conveniently available wires to hook up to near my passenger visor, where I wanted the detector, have juice up to 15 minutes after engine shut off! They even called their mechanic friends at a BMW dealership to confirm this, just to make sure nothing had changed for the brand new 2016's. Dell also called his friends at a BMW dealer for me regarding another issue, still under warranty, even though Ultimate Autowerks would not be involved in the fixing of that warranty issue! Lastly, my wife and I made a four hour round trip drive to have our car accessories installed by Ultimate Autowerks, and we will go back for anything we want done to our BMW X3 that is not under our four year service warranty. After that, we'll come back to avoid the high parts and labor charges of the dealerships, while getting up to date, quality BMW mechanical service done, as my Lexus Independent service shop owner told me would be the case. read more
