Absolutely awful experience Saturday. The stylist I had I was told was "running late," and made no effort to let me know personally. After more than 15 minutes, I decided might just cancel, I had plans for Mother's Day and my time was not being respected. She emerged all of the sudden I guess after seeing me get up from where I was sitting, after I saw her laughing and giggling with coworkers. Not a professional first impression at all. So, after doing the deep conditioning treatment I asked for, she informed me that a blow dry would be extra and she charged me for a whole separate service which I wasn't happy about. She pulled my hair very hard during the blow dry, and I did not feel comfortable telling her anything because she was bring so passive aggressive. When I mentioned when she was done that my scalp tends to be sensitive, she said to me in a very snarky tone, "WeLl YoU CoUld hAvE tOlD me!" I was in the shopping center picking up an order from Bath and Body Works when I decided to stop into Ulta yesterday. I had no specific idea in mind, other than looking around and smelling perfumes. Well, it was the best thing I could have done. Lexi was SO HELPFUL and such an angel to me! She helped me try new perfumes that would go well with not only my body oil but my boyfriends also. I spent at least 10 minutes with her going around trying some her of favorite products. She was kind and knowledgeable and just made my DAY! Now cut to... KEVIN! Kevin was the next to help me with skincare. If it weren't for him I wouldn't have tried certain skincare products that I needed up loving. He was knowledgeable as well, hilarious too and also helped me find products suitable for my eczema. If I could recommend giving two people raises it would be Lexi and Kevin. My wife and I stopped by this Ulta store because we were shopping at the other shops. She wanted to see if they had her shampoo here. When we walked inside, they were not busy at all for July 4th. The employees where standing around on their phones since there was no customers. The moment we walked in, other customers started to come in as well. My wife found her shampoo with the help of an employee. When it was time to pay, it did take a while since there was only 1 cashier and she was stuck helping a customer trying to return something. Went to go pickup my online order that was ready, they said that their order system was down and I waited almost 30 minutes while they made phone calls to their tech support. They offered to cancel the online order and I repurchase the items and their system didn't let them do that either. So I offered to come back for my stuff even though I paid for them online already and they were right in front of me. Well, it's been a week or two but I must say my experience here at the Ulta Simi Valley was spectacular! I was helped by Lexi and she was absolutely magnificent! I had an issue previously and although not a huge deal Lexi quickly understood what the problem was and immediately resolved the issue. Last and final time coming to this location. I was charged $35 for a product that was labeled $20 at the front register. After checking out, I politely asked if the cashier could double check the price, as it was listed as $20. She did inform me it was a mistake and notified her manager. As we were explaining the issue to said manager, Flowers, she told me "hold up, we are not gonna do all that. Look im trying to help you but not if you're going to be doing all that" and began giving me attitude when I simply and politely was trying to explain the issue? A girl friend wanted to go makeup shopping, with the stipulation of "cruelty-free", so we beelined here. I was hoping to find a new foundation and powder. Anyway, I made my rounds comparing everything but something kept drawing me to the Tarte section. This brand is vegan! I chose my makeup and went to pay. While waiting on my friend, I started looking around beyond the makeup. The store was overwhelming; there were little displays of random items in every nook and cranny. So many shelves were cluttered and messy. The makeup section looked as pretty as Sephora, everything else screamed Big Lots. Nobody on the floor greeted me or offered to help, but one employee was assisting my friend so I approached her and asked her if I chose the right shades. She said I did okay but if I wanted less pink, to go with a different foundation. I went with her suggestion; I felt bad but making the return was really easy. Don't use their services for hair curling and makeup lessons. They mislead you on the prices. For loose curls and a makeup lesson they tried to charge $144.00. They don't explain their prices until you leave. You're a hostage in the chair. I was charged for 2 makeup lessons and the stylist didn't give me any lessons. NEVER go here unless you want to be ripped off. The Manager Earlet was not helpful. Must have been a slow day and they had a quota to meet so they take advantage of their customers. Have been to this location twice now. Somehow it doesn't feel like they have it totally together. By comparison, the first time I went to the Thousand Oaks store they made me feel welcome and offered assistance in the aisles. The Simi store hasn't had many associates able to help with questions on the floor, and the cash wrap line tends to be pretty full. I had to return an item because I tried it once and didn't care for the consistency of the eye liner. With a receipt they took it back with no hesitation. The product I was looking for was barely in stock, and though I brought the original one from home, the associate couldn't verify if it was the same thing. That meant she didn't know the merchandise. The eyeliner I've been using for several months is one recommended by a salesperson at the T.O. store. She had made a fan out of me with her knowledge. The suggestion she made has been terrific. All the more disappointing that my experience with the Simi staff so far is that they are friendly, and wear a lot of their own products on their faces, but they aren't that versed in helping customers with questions we might have about the goods. I won't give up on them yet, but do hope for an improvement on my next visit. read more

YOU NEED TO SEE CARLOS. He accommodated my hair appointment two hours before I showed for a blow dry & wash. His skills with hair are life changing. Not only did he take the time to smooth my level 3 curly hair to perfection (which trust me is an ordeal) but he also touched up my (dead and in need of color) ends with this magic product that brought my hair back to life. The photo speaks for itself. You can't even see the discoloration of blondish, faded, and split ends. I had no idea that such talent was hidden in Simi Valley and I can't wait to go back for a color and cut. I trust and recommend his expertise more than anyone's. Trust me, you need to see Carlos. Why does this store have such poor reviews? I've been here at least 7 times and I've always had really great service. I'm ALWAYS greeted at the door upon entering, someone ALWAYS asks me if I need any help with a smile and when I reach the cashier I am consistently met with courteous and personalized service! I am not sure exactly what I expected here, but when my daughter and I were in Ulta a week ago for a quick trip, one of the ladies told us they were hosting an event the following week where we could come in at a certain time and receive some free products. I was surprised and interested so I asked if there was anything we needed to purchase and she say no. We just needed to register our names for the appointment. We did so and looked forward to the event. Arriving today, there seemed to be no line, no demonstration, we were slightly confused. I asked a representative and she seemed overly excited that we were there. She led us to a small section where two ladies separated my daughter and I and began to start doing a full makeup session on us. We were surprised, but went with the flow thinking maybe it was for a new line. When completed, they offered us a few of the products and we went up to the register thinking this was the "free items" the girl had referred to. As they rang us up my total became over $200 for four small products. I was surprised and I looked at the lady and said, oh we were here for the demonstration. She looked at me and said sure, here is your free gift. And handed me a bag with a tiny sample inside. She then explained that you had to purchase two items to even receive this tiny travel trinket. I realize I did not have to spend any money. But in reality it just felt like false advertising for nothing. We shop there anyway. No need to try and bribe us there. Definitely not worth it. This store is well stocked compared to other Ulta's I've been too. They have a large collection and it's very clean and tidy. They have a full salon with makeup and hair services. Everyone is really knowledgeable about the products. I made an appointment for makeup services online for a family Christmas photo shot. When I arrived I realized I had made it for the wrong date. I had a brief moment of panic and embarrassment. Daniela the manager was so nice and understanding and connected me with one of the It cosmetic artists Helen (I believe that's her name) and saved the day. I was able to get a full face done and purchased some great cosmetics as well. The makeup artist was very sweet and recommended some great products. I greatly appreciate manager Daniela and her help. I'm a new mom and haven't done my makeup in months so it was nice to get pampered and discover new products as well. read more

Even though my mom and I walked around for a while no one greeted us or offered to help, which is what we are used to from other makeup stores like Sephora.
