Yesterday afternoon I had a disappointing experience at the Ulta Beauty in the Peninsula Center in Palos Verdes today. The manager who checked me out was very transactional and didn't seem interested in helping. I asked about matching the online price, and instead of offering a solution, he had me place an online order, even though the item was right there in the store. That left me feeling brushed off and unwelcome. He had an attitude and was just really rude. I think customer service and flexibility at this location need serious improvement. read more

The staff is always friendly and helpful. Products are well stocked. The store is in a nice location and usually you can find parking near the front of the building. This Ulta in particular is my go-to for all my makeup and hair needs. Though this store is great, I have not had any meaningful or "best experience ever" interaction the countless times I've gone, which is why I'm rating 4 stars. read more

I'm actually really surprised by the low rating of this place. I usually go into Sephora, but was curious about some elf products, so decided to try Ulta. I think during my time there, three people came up to me asking if I needed support. The customer service here is pretty amazing, and it reminds me of what it was like a while back. Isabella is someone who totally stood out to me. She spent time with me talking through her experience with elf products, and then recommending a couple of other brands that would help minimize cars. She helped me with a couple of samplings of products so I could see it myself. In fact, I ended up getting a couple more products than I thought I would, just because she had been so helpful. I put on the foundation and the primer that I got today, and honestly, it's probably the best primer and foundation combination I've had. I ended up going with benefit for the primer, and then I ended up going with Clinique for the foundation. I 100% will be back and I highly recommend Isabella! read more

This is a review of their salon service. I booked a wedding hair appt (for bridesmaid) and a day after I got confirmation of the service I got a message saying they had to cancel the service, no explanation given. Then 2 days before the wedding (Thursday night, wedding is Saturday) I got a call from the makeup artists canceling my makeup service telling me she was going to be out of town and sorry she needed to cancel. Like wtf she accepted the job over a month ago and I think if they take a job they shouldn't be able to cancel unless there is an emergency. The MUA didn't sound apologetic she sounded giggly like she was excited to be heading out of town while essentially last minute leaving me to find a new place with less than 1 day. I feel this is highly unprofessional and the manager should have reached out to provide some solutions read more

Danika was very helpful. She was knowledgeable about various cosmetic lines and confirmed that what we were using were good choices. I appreciate the good customer service very much. My Mom and I were originally at Ulta to make a Happy Return otherwise it is doubtful we would enter the store. At 66 and 90, my mom and I are senior and super senior. Walking into Ulta is quite an intimidating and overwhelming experience. For one, the employees all look half a century younger than us. Then there's so many brands of cosmetics, so many choices within the lines and so many skin shade colors to select that we don't know where to start and we can't find the right color even when our own cosmetics are in hand to use as a guide. i stopped in saturday evening to check out some new products from my favorite makeup brands and was followed by at least 3 separate sales associates. one heavyset, blonde, white female associate wearing a bright purple top was even foolish enough to boldly stand over me while i tried out new mac concealers. when i looked her way, she insisted she was "zoned out" on a cologne display of channing tatum, and tried to get me to engage in "pronouncing his name?" very odd and poor attempt to keep surveillance on me. another white, blonde, male associate then approached me shortly after i dismissed the female associate to talk about the products i was trying out. his demeanor was that of somebody who clearly just got done discussing my presence, as he lingered and watched me try out mac products for a bit as well. i finally did ask another white, blonde, female associate wearing glasses, for her insight on mac color correctors- this associate was more professional as she answered my questions and didn't obviously try to profile me as the others did. nonetheless, that is the bare minimum customers expect when entering a store. this experience was extremely poor, especially as i am a diamond ulta credit card holder, and have been for years. i don't appreciate being treated like a shoplifter inside a store i regularly SPEND my money at- especially given the fact that this ulta is located in a nice, safe, very well-off area. i mean, maybe the ulta on compton and alameda has to keep eyes on their patrons, but ulta in palos verdes needs to follow and over engage with people trying to shop? i didn't end up purchasing anything due to this experience, and instead will stick to placing orders online. in order to drive up in-person shopping and sales and keep stores open, the employees here need serious training, or replacement. this experience felt targeted, but ill get to the bottom of it as i live in the area and as stated, am a diamond card holder. read more

Do not go to the Salon! I should have read the reviews first. I made an appointment ahead of time and they last minute scheduled someone right before me who bled into my appointment. I was taken 10 min after my appt, my hair was washed, and then I waited another 15 min with my hair soaking wet as the stylist finished the hair for the other customer. Because of that last minute appointment, the stylist was distracted as I tried to explain the type of haircut I wanted. The haircut came out ok but not what I wanted. There's no shape or style to the haircut. Because the stylist wanted to hurry up and go to her lunch break, she left my hair super frizzy - worst blow out I've ever seen. She literally told me "I can't get out of here fast enough." My scalp was still wet and I had to tell her to finish blow drying my hair. The previous customer's hair looked great and mine looked like a hot mess even after I had her blow dry it again. Not to mention the stylist was complaining about other staff members with a coworker in front of me. Unapologetically unprofessional. Never coming here again. Waste of money. read more

I visited Ulta Beauty with my 8-year-old daughter for what was meant to be a fun, casual shopping trip. While the staff was friendly and the store was well-stocked, the experience quickly became uncomfortable. As an African American woman who grew up in Palos Verdes and still currently resides here, I'm highly aware of the subtle ways people are treated differently and it was clear that we were being followed by security throughout our time in the store. We weren't approached or offered help by the security just silently trailed as soon as we entered the store, while other shoppers moved freely without surveillance. My daughter and I did nothing wrong to warrant that kind of attention. It was disheartening, and I left feeling more disappointed than anything. I won't be returning. read more

Diane S., self-proclaimed, Master Stylist, is singularly, the most egregiously insolent, unprofessional, unethical individual our family has ever encountered. She presented as borderline sociopathic. Her dismissive, irritable and as my 8 year old said, unprovoked, "Bad attitude," were entirely unacceptable. This person should not be in any form of "Customer Relations." She is ill tempered, obnoxious, entitled and verbally and emotionally abusive. Our 11:30A appointment that we arrived to at 11:30A was deemed, 'Not enough time. I have a 12:00P. I can't do it. His hair is too much. I AM A PERFECTIONIST. I need more time.' After attempting to pawn us off on a co-stylist, to no avail, we reminded her the ULTA site states "Kids Haircut (Up to 30 Mins)." She told us ULTA needed to change it from 30 to 45, because as a perfectionist, she requires more time. We asked if her 12:00P could wait a few minutes as we were booked and there. She blatantly said, 'No, I cannot make my appointment wait.' Truly, unhinged reasoning. Zero rationality. No apology. Nothing. We left and walked to nearby local OG "PV Barber Shop" sans any appointment, were seated immediately and out within 25 minutes. Voila. Our family has lived on the Hill since the 1950s. Four generations. We have never once experienced such disrespect, disregard and imprudence. We spoke with the Store Manager, who was at once pleasant but ultimately feckless. She stated she called the Salon Manager, who was out but who would call us to follow up. No call. It would seem Diane S. requires constant Supervision. She was unconscionably awful. AVOID Diane S. She appears mentally & emotionally unwell. We will be reporting her to The Board for FRAUD, FALSE ADVERTISING, VERBAL & EMOTIONAL ABUSE et al. This place is the worst. They made me a next day appointment for hair and makeup for a very important event. Then when I was on my way called me and said they had to cancel my appointment-- for a date that was the following week. I never made an appointment for the following week. I had made an appointment for the next day. When I called to tell them, I was on the way to the appointment. They had made me for 1/2 hour from now, they basically said they denied making the error, took no responsibility, and said they had no one to help me. Despite my desperation, they basically said "oh well too bad." When someone had recommended to me to go to Ulta for hair and make up for my event, I was hesitant and suspicious, but was so happy that they had made me the next day appointment and had high expectations. After this experience, I see that my hesitation was warranted. They are unreliable and unprofessional. I would not recommend this location, or any Ulta makeup store for that matter, for any services of importance to you. read more

I booked an online make up service for my birthday. 10 minutes later i received text alert my appointment was cancelled. I looked up online to see other times and my time and others all day and night were still showing. I made the appointment again only for the small thing to happen canceled again. I called the store and was transferred to the salon where I was connected to someone and I said hello, looking to book a service only to be hung up on. I booked an appt for brow threading with Drea. I haven't done my eyebrows in years since I have sparse eyebrows. I was a little nervous. But when I tell you, Drea did an amazing job not only threading my eyebrows but also explaining the whole process of what she was doing. She also explained how I should style my eyebrows based off my bone structure which in of itself was super helpful for me.. This review is for the beauty salon. I go to Ulta regularly for my beauty products, and I love the store and friendly staff. I decided to give the makeup service a try because I was having my wedding photo shoot taken and this was the closest location to my house. Two hours before my appt, the salon manager calls to say that the makeup person was running really behind and offered to reschedule two hours after my scheduled appt. I told the manager that I needed to be done at a certain time, but she couldn't even guarantee that they could take me at that time, even though it was the time frame she suggested. It was a Sunday afternoon so I wasn't even sure if I could get an appt elsewhere but I decided to cancel because Ulta couldn't guarantee that they could take me. How disappointing. I called back asking if any store employee can do my makeup. She said no. She offered another appt for a discount but why would I come back when they couldn't even honor my original appt? I luckily found Rena at Bright Crystal Studio at Del Amo Mall. She accommodated me at such short notice and squeezed me in between appts. She got the job done! Ulta has lost me as a customer. I am not want to write bad reviews but as much as it hurts me I had to. I compared the reviews between this location and the southbay one, and I wanted to go here because of the better reviews. I thought maybe I should trust this location more. I had my appointment early 11 am in the morning and did not leave until nearly 8 pm. I walked in and my stylist was very nice. I showed her what I wanted and she started with my hair. I wish I knew how long it was going to take. She made sure to ask me if I was in a rush or anything because my hair was very black. I asked for a cut and a balayage. I showed her the picture. The master stylist herself was extremely nice and has a great soul. My hair did not come out great..... It was not even. My hair was bronze in some areas and blonde other areas. When I went to pay the cashier kind of gave me a disgusted look and did not compliment my hair so that's how I knew the stylist did not do a great job. It was bad. The total itself was 200 because I had a 15% discount for my first salon visit. I gave the stylist a great tip because she was nice. She also recommended me to come back to tone my hair more. I will not come back because I was really disappointed and could not look at myself in the mirror. I also made a mistake of not wearing a shirt I did not care about because bleach got onto my shirt! read more

I'd give a zero star for this location if possible. Walked in there today with my daughters. Purchased $200 worth of stuff for an upcoming trip. There were about 5 women working. Not 1 said hello, asked if there was anything they could help us with.... the usual customer service you would find elsewhere. When we got to the register, my daughter (who's bday is this month and has an account with Ulta) inquired about the bday gift redemption. The sales person assumed she didn't have an account and proceeded to tell my daughter that she needs to have an account with them. On our way out, the same lady proceeded to talk about my daughter (while we were still in the store). Very unprofessional!!! Where did they find these people? While we would like to support businesses on our side of town, I can't support this place ever again. I see why they have a 2 star.... very disappointed.
