Would NEVER go to this salon. My child went in for a consultation and showed them a picture of the hair color and cut they would like. The person they spoke to said not a problem at all. Made the appointment and they went in. This person was suppose to bleach their hair white/platinum and dye portions of the bottom black. Well..... hair is now yellow, scalp hurts and where the black was supposed to go is not only at the bottom but in all kinds of places where it shouldn't be. And is not black, it's more blue/green. So absolutely not like the picture they showed them after almost 4 hours being there. plus didn't even get a hair cut they were promised and paid to do, because the stylist ran out of time. So now they are out over $300 dollars and damaged hair and scalp is so sore. They said they don't do refunds - only can TRY to fix it. I told them don't you let anyone from that salon touch your hair again, they obviously don't know what the heck they are doing. You'd think they would give them at least 1/2 back. Awful customer service to say the least! Also tried to get in touch with owner and they said to come in to see them, but they were going to be out of town. said they would be in touch and now have not heard from them at all. It's been weeks. Probably should have done more research. read more

I found this place after researching somewhere that my 13 year old boy could get a complete restyle. He had grown his hair out long and now wanted a mullet. I knew that this couldn't be done by just any barber and had to specifically look for someone with the creativity and eye for what he wanted. I discovered subterranean hair! A few things stuck out for me, looked hip and kinda punk and that spoke to us, as a Mom to a drummer and guitarist this place looked like the kinda vibe that they would get a kick out of, the esthetics of the place indicated that those working here were a creative bunch that would be up to date on trends and techniques. Then I went through reviews and saw that Mitchell was most likely our best bet (I know that many of the stylists could prob do what my son wanted but it was a big change and I really wanted to feel confident about it) Mitchell was amazing, my son loved the place, the vibe and Mitchell completely nailed exactly what he wanted (That was the most important thing) Because all three of my boys don't have "conventional" boy hairstyles, we will definitely be back here from now on. Everything about this salon feels so... curated. The decor is so original and it's divided into three different areas. The hair salon, the color room and the barbershop. We finally found a winner, team. I've seen about 5 different stylists and this is the first haircut that I've had that I truly enjoyed. Mitchel did an incredible job on my hair. We talked about the type of cut I wanted and the styles I liked. He took my inspiration pictures and applied them really well. There is one section of my hair that was a little shorter than I had envisioned but he offered a touch up in about a month to get the cut perfect. Do you have (or want) a truly superior bob or other hairstyle that requires extreme precision in your cut? This is 14/10 the place for that. Mitchell is who I see, although everyone else there is also super nice. Here's the rundown: 1) Truly superior haircut and service. My husband commented that this is the best cut I've ever had, and I have worn my hair in a bob for years. 2) Fairly easy to get an appointment at a time that is convenient for you 3) Easy on street parking 4) Family owned/run business that actually cares about it's employees and the neighborhood community 5) Overall downtown San Pedro is super cute/safe 6) You can walk a block afterwards and have great wine/charcuterie and make it a mini-event for yourself if you're done after 4:30pm (Compagnon Wine Bar) 7) They also do coloring and have a men's barbershop in the back, which looks very cool. Honestly, I get my hair done there, super cool people get their hair done there, and everyone seems very comfortable and happy. My hair looks and feels great. After my barber passed away. I tried a few different people and eventually just started clipping my own hair and then it just turned into a buzz cut year round. After growing my hair out I didn't want to just chop it off and I'm still not sure what my hair so will evolve into but I really like the way my hair looks and feels now. Getting my hair done at Subterranean has been an incredible experience! Everyone there is so incredibly friendly, and my stylist, Hannah, was absolutely phenomenal. Not only did she take the time to ask questions and really understand what I wanted, but she was incredibly kind and friendly. In addition to that, they serve coffee and tea, hot or iced to you while you wait. And another thing worth highlighting is the fact that they are a certified green salon! Love the stylist, Kellcee, she is very professional and does a great job, the salon is well decorated and clean. Would like to see transparent pricing. At the reception desk a sign says that their $1.00 fee is included in the styling charge, yet they add it on at check out. Website reservation doesn't show this fee either. Thank you for your call, Mitchell, to address this issue, and further explaining the costs that the $1.00 fee help to defray.
