I went in looking for a specific item. The store feels very cramped and I don't think area are labeled well for where thing s are (makeup, hair care, body products) so it took some time for me to find the brand I was looking for. When I didn't immediately see what I was looking for, I went to ask an associate for assistance. The associate hardly acknowledged that I was asking for assistance and then just coldly said "it'd be over there" with a point and went back to what they were doing. I have always been happy with Ulta-I really love the rewards program and have shopped at this store quite often the hairstylists Rachel and Logan are particularly fabulous! Sincere has done my facials and is lovely and her expertise has helped my skin! I took star off due to facial area-there is no enclosure/room so you are out in the open...which for me is okay, but I definitely feel like it takes away from relaxing experience. read more

I suggested she manually type it in or run it through as a debit/credit and she refused...until another associate came over and actually did. And guess what, I was right! Customer service at the Matthews location is lacking. I always feel like a number vs an actual person. When I asked for help about a product, I was shown products that had nothing to do with my issue. Also I went in on my birthday and I informed the cashier that it was my birthday so I could get the free product and she said (in a not so friendly voice) "We don't have anymore". I said ok then, no big deal. She could've at least said happy birthday. She was so rude and was only interested in getting me through her line. I will not shop Ulta anymore. read more

New store that is clean and very well lit. There are several items that you can try or smell before you buy. Be sure to look up coupons on the site before you make a purchase. They also have a loyalty program for each dollar you spend is a point depending on your purchase you can get a free gift. There is plenty of parking in their shared lot. There are plenty of staff available, however they loose a star on customer service. Despite having the staff they seem focused on working with one person and fail to multitask. Sometimes you may not be greeted or helped because the team seem busy.... as a result there seems to be a wait at checkout when I come so brace yourself. Hopefully they can make changes in customer service as they develop since they are new. The place has been open for about a month now. Happy beauty hunting. read more

When they finally got me on hold, I was sitting there for over 20 MINUTES TO CHECK IF ONE ITEM WAS IN STOCK. For the love of God, just order online. Cashier seemed to have a problem with me opting to scan my card rather than telling her my phone number, she was a bit of a pill honestly. As I was rummaging through my wallet for my Ultamate Rewards card, she decided to be really snarky and say (as if I were some idiot), "You can just tell me." Or you can just scan my card, pendeja. No seriously, what is up with the staff getting that familiar with their customers? I have to agree with the other reviews, the customer service here is horrible. It's one of the better-organized stores due to its more compact size (as opposed to other Ultas), but there are other locations, like Cotswald in Charlotte and Hanes Mall in Winston-Salem, that are scores better as far as customer service and organization go. Hanes Mall even offered coupons for online purchasing. I like the house brand, which boasts the Luxe Lipstick and the eyeshadow singles. But with the decline in customer service as of recent, I feel a better option would be just to order online so I can avoid the embarrassment of having a member of the staff talk down her nose at me. read more

My first time here yes the store is spotless but the customer service sucks! For being a new store they were oddly out of a lot of products? I walked around for 30 minutes and not a single soul spoke to me. I had to get someone's attention to help me with hair products. Standing in line to be checked out there was only one person on the register, the line was four people deep. The lady behind me said no one said a word to her either. It is 3:30 in the afternoon on a Thursday and the place was dead, no reason to be ignored. I'm usually dodging women who work at Ulta because they are overly aggressive, complete opposite in Matthews! read more

Poor customer service in this location. I came in-store to sample a foundation. The associates cannot color match you correctly so I requested a sample of the product. The associate told me no we don't have that. If I can't sample the product to get the right color match then I will not purchase products from Ulta. He didn't offer any explanation as to why they don't offer samples..he just walked away. I will not return. read more

First time coming to this specific ulta because apparently it was the closest to me but I actually think google maps was wrong. Anyway I ordered something online because I figured it would be faster and easier than fighting the ridiculous Christmas shoppers. I got there and went straight to the online pick up counter. The woman at the register saw me but didnt acknowledge me which is fine, she was ringing someone out. Then she took care of another person and another and another. There were 2 workers at the front ringing out customers, neither acknowledged me until the one woman finally rang out 3 people and said she would be right with me. 10 minutes later I was finally taken care of! It would have been faster for me to grab the item off the shelf and wait in line because they took care of everyone in line before they took care of me. Maybe they should have someone on the floor that they can call when an online pick up comes in. This was the most irritating online pick up experience. This was not the fast and easy way to shop that they promise. I wouldn't go to this store again and I probably wont use the online shopping option either. Not really worth it since there is no real difference. Maybe if I was buying a ton of stuff. Otherwise pretty terrible read more

I had my hair cut/colored at the salon yesterday. First there was some confusion over a promotion that had been the reason I chose Ulta over other salons. This led to an embarrassing and frustrating confrontation with an extremely rude Assistant Manager ... who has no business being in retail. Anyway, after being made to feel like an idiot, I should have just left. But my stylist had already been so kind to me during my consultation. So, I stuck it out. $300 later (the discount was still misleading, WTF) I was less than pleased with the color and cut. I made this clear to my stylist. She tried to reason with me to "like" it. But the point is, I left with that 'deer in the headlights" look of complete disbelief that she was letting me walk out this unhappy. This is not the way a salon should be run. I understand that color is difficult to get correct the first time ... but the customer shouldn't have to pay until they are satisfied. Period. This is especially important when they are paying for an "elite" associate (which my stylist was). To add insult to injury, I have a balding area near my part. Look at how my stylist dealt with this ... it's now more prominent than ever!!! Again, if you want a professional salon do NOT go here! read more

The beauty consultants, Toni and the person working with her, didn't get her name (sorry), were wonderful. I'm a grandmother and they both made me feel like a rock star. I can't gush enough about how helpful these 2 women were to me and my family. They are knowledgeable about the products in their location.
