I decided that I was tired of coloring my roots every 3 weeks. After getting estimates of over $1000 and 8 hour sitting a chair to go grey I met Devlyn Lapp. She showed me some photos of other ladies like me so I booked an appointment. Instead of stripping my color, she did all over highlights. My grey is growing out without a visible line thanks to the excellent job Devlyn did of matching what was my natural root color . I go in there almost every weekend. The store is well stocked, clean, and pleasant - especially compared with some other Ultas on the front range. The employees at the Longmont store are always helpful and knowledgeable. Today, I had an exceptionally good experience. I cut my hand right before I went in to shop so u asked if they sold band aids. They said no, but an employee (I think a manager) offered to go get me one. She did an excellent job helping me "update" my hair style with a great hair cut that resulted in me getting a lot of compliments the next week. I came back a second time for a bang trim and partial highlights and she did a great job again. Ended up coming in here on a whim after looking for a new ceramic curling iron for my fine hair. I wanted to get the same results I get in the salon and have never had luck in keeping a curl all day the way my hair stylist does. Anyway, I went in and requested help with recommending curling irons. I spoke with one of the managers at length (Emily) who made excellent recommendations. I never know anymore walking into a store if there are product experts on staff or not. She definitely was and could recommend that she uses at home and in the salon personally. I'm not one to write reviews, certainly not negative reviews, but I just had a very weird interaction with the cashier who works here that I felt compelled to share. I've been to Ulta maybe twice in my life and have no interest in opening up an account. I only purchased a few items, a curling iron and some odds and ends. The girl behind the counter copped a major attitude when I refused to give her my phone number. She kept insisting I open an account and despite politely telling her no she wouldn't drop it and acted really put out that I wouldn't give her the information she was demanding. She then lied and said that I'd be unable to make a return if I didn't have an account, which is just really weird? Who goes that hard for the store they work for that they'd lie to a customer about the corporate return policy. I was honestly shocked by her persistence and how rude she was as she put my items into the bag. I tried to get an email receipt and she was like "cant do it without an account" as she threw the paper receipt in the bag. No "thank you" or "have a nice day", just an "I'd really look into opening an account" as I walked away. This interaction bothered me, so when I got home I looked up the return policy and lo and behold, it isn't contingent upon opening an Ulta account. So I called back to clarify that the Ulta website clearly states that any purchase returned within 60 days receive a full refund when presented with a receipt. The girl sounded super flustered, didn't really give me a good response then hung up on me. Solid customer service. 0/10. Not that I was a frequent flier here but you can find better deals online and I'll pass on the overt hostility next time I need some bobby pins. Edit: I forgot to add! The weirdest part! When I refused to give her my number she wanted me to give her one of my friends numbers? So so odd. I reckon they're thirsty for personal data. Easy to find and parking was not a problem, in-fact, I got a spot about 15 yards from the entrance. The store is a diva's dream. They have so many beauty products it's hard to resist filling an entire shopping bag... and from overhearing a few customers while I waited for my stock-check, I overheard several women with purchases of over $200. Plus, they added that they couldn't pass up a bargain. Many of ULTA's items are on sale or offer a "free gift" with purchase. It was not hard to find someone who could help me and they were pleasant about having to look for the item I wanted. When I finally checked out, I was offered a "free gift" of a trial sized mascara or lash primer from a good brand name, like Lancôme... all I had to do was give them my name, address and phone number. I was able to opt-out of receiving mailings and emails as well. Then I was offered 20% off the day's purchase if I signed up for the ULTA credit card. As my purchase was only $28, I decided to skip that until I had a larger purchase (like $200, then I'd receive a larger amount off and that would be more worth it). They also have an online store. On site is a hair salon as well. Unfortunately, some of the items are out of stock in the Revlon and Maybelline sections. I always go here for my hair gel. They are the only place in town that sells the brand name I prefer. One of the only issues with this place is that they run awesome sales and once you show up you quickly find that they ran out of product. 5 weeks ago, I booked hair and makeup services for a wedding. 4 days before the wedding, I get a call from the makeup artist stating she was not going to be there, and didn't know who booked the makeup training service. I explained it was not a training session, but for a wedding and the salon manager booked the appointment. Again, knowing it was for a wedding and after putting me on hold several times, she came back saying that she could maybe "try" to be in before 3pm (Our appointment was at 10am, with wedding at 4pm). I purchased a bottle of hair spray under the mistaken notion that it was hair mousse. When I went to the counter to pay for it I was asked for "a good phone number ". Well I really don't think I need to give my phone number to every place of business that I shop at so I declined. I paid in cash, got my receipt and left. When I realized my mistake that I had not gotten hair mousse, I went back to the store several days later to return it. The item was unused and I had my receipt. I didn't expect the hassle I received! First I was told that since I didn't have an "account " with them I would have to take the lowest price that this item has ever sold for in their store. I had paid $16.00 and they offered me $3.50. But I have the receipt! I said. You can see I spent $16 plus tax on it just a few days ago. The sales associate insisted that I had to have given them my personal information at purchase time in order to be able to return an item for the price paid! I said I don't think that is legal and I don't see anywhere on your signage around the store that states that. At that point she amazingly was able to give me my full refund. I would caution anyone considering doing business with this company. When a company is this insistent on getting your name and phone number they must have a strong motivation. They "supposedly " don't sell your personal information but there are easy ways companies make money "sharing " with their "partners " your information. Plus I doubt that they spend a whole lot on data security. Many companies get hacked and rarely are you the customer notified. I would suggest that if you absolutely need to shop at Ulta, that you use a fake name and phone number. read more

Make-up's stupid. "Hmm...I know what will make me more attractive! BLUE EYELIDS and GREEN TOENAILS" but oh my gosh, is it also STUPID FUN. Or it should be, anyway. This Ulta just makes me have a sad. Or sometimes a mad. I've been coming here intermittently since the store opened, and I keep hoping it will improve. It has not. Fuggedaboutit. I only come here if I am pressed for time and/or JUST.CANNOT.EVEN. deal with going over to Sephora or MAC or the "The Good Ulta". Compared to other Ultas in Colorado as well as out-of-state locations I've been to, Longmont's a mess. The displays are always a disaster in the prestige area, with missing samples, make-up smeared all over the place and the try-on stations not being fully stocked with supplies. The store brand display is always half-empty and often missing try-ons. I don't like most of the Ultra branded-cosmetics anyway - dry, powdery, not pigmented enough and I am harboring a grudge because they discontinued the one lip product that was well-done and which I totally loved. Phooey. In all fairness, I am always willing to give 'em a pass on the conditions of displays and samples the day after a big sales event, I get that. Customers are grody slobs. Trying to keep the sales floor tidy while 16 people are simultaneously asking you for help, 2 other customers are catfighting over the last Urban Decay Naked palette, someone's unattended, snot-nosed toddler straight up just ate a Lipstick Queen lipstick and some New-Age Derp Herder from Boulder is throwing a fit because the eyeliner on sale is not organic, artisan, free-range and humanely harvested...yeah, things get a little messy. But there's no excuse for the state of things as I have observed the other times. The clearance shelves used to be horrific, but they've actually improved and are cleaner and neater as of late, but the markdowns suck. There's not a lot of deals to be found. I want a clearance item's discount to make me raise my fist and yell "KHHAAAAN! I mean KOHL! KOHL EYELINEERRRRRRRR MARKED DOWN 80%". A dollar off is not "clearance." Unlike other locales I've been to, the Longmont location the staff always seems tired, browbeaten or simply put out. There also seems to be a great deal of staff turnover, which is never a good sign. Whenever I find a staffer I like, they invariably are gone-baby-gone the next time I come in, leaving me to deal with staff that should be taken out behind the chemical sheds and shot, therefore putting them out of their misery. At Longmont, the best help I've received has been from "floaters" - the absolutely most enthusiastic and knowledgeable staffer I have dealt with was actually based out of another location, so now I go see her at her home store because I often get the feeling that the Longmont staff doesn't know products, techniques or trends or industry news. Over time, the staff has gotten better about greeting people as you come in but still could use some improvement with keeping an eye on who needs help. I think they are usually seriously understaffed. One visit, all I needed from one harried girl was just an acknowledgement that she saw me and would get to me in time. I wasn't going to interrupt her or the customer she was assisting. I am happy to wait my turn, really. I'm chill and I get it. I used to work retail. When said salesgirl was done, she looked right at me, and walked off, disappearing into the messy racks of product, possibly swallowed up by some woman-eating Clarisonic or lost forever in a fluffy forest of makeup brushes. Anyhoo...there I was in the aisle, by myself..so lonely...and I couldn't find anyone to help me. I was pretty pissed off and went to MAC in Boulder instead. Many Shuvs and Zuuls knew what it was to be roasted in the depths of the Slor that day, I can tell you! On another visit, I politely asked another salesperson who was stocking shampoo a question. I was hesitant because I had dealt with her before and she's snotty. I got the information but yep, I caught some 'tude. Look, you don't need to suck up to me nor do I expect you to be my BFF. I just need to know where the eff you moved my product to. I'm totally okay with a certain chilliness as long as it is *professional* but rude is right out. I wanted to grab a hold of her septum piercing and drag her rude ass over to Sephora so she could see how service is done. For the younger girls sometimes less than stellar service is simply no more than a lack of polish and work experience. Unlike the 'tude, inexperience is OK - we were all beginners in the world of work at one time. I'm forgiving enough that honest enthusiasm will trump rough edges. I actually enjoy working with those folks and have learned a lot and gotten great recommendations. I think they learned from me, too. However at Longmont, these type of experiences are few and far between. So yeah. One star. TL:DR; Messy, poorly stocked, and poorly staffed. Go elsewhere if you can. read more

I came here to buy an eyelash curler. At the time of checkout I was asked if I wanted to sign up for the rewards program, I declined because I generally do not give out my personal information and I do not regularly shop at Ulta. This created a problem with the cashier and another sales associate got involved. They seemed really unhappy that I declined signing up for the program, they began berating with me with ALL the reasons I should sign up. It was then told to me that I could NOT make a RETURN in the future if I didn't sign up for the rewards program (despite having my receipt)....I still declined. This experience didn't sit right with me, how could I not return something because I didn't sign up for the rewards program? I decided to call the store and speak with the general manager, Sam. This conversation went nowhere and Sam was very difficult to deal with. I contacted another Ulta store and they were happy to help me by providing the Ulta customer service line. I do plan on RETURNING the eyelash curler based on the unprofessionalism of the GM Sam. I will take my complaint as far as I can solely based on my phone call with Sam. A customer should not have to deal with this treatment for declining to sign up for an elective program. read more

Dawn has worked magic with my hair. The color is beautiful, the highlights were perfectly placed. I walked in feeling dumpy, left feeling like a strong and attractive woman. I was helped in the make area by a knowledgeable and professional makeup artist. Primer, foundation, mascara, day and evening lipstick, and skin care. All of the products are performing as advertised. My skin has improved and the makeup is a perfect match. Ulta makes me very happy....and pretty! read more

I've always had problems with this store and their shipments. On several occasions I've been assured that a product was going to be in that following Friday (they always seem to be out of everything) and it doesn't show up for one reason or another. I even had a "manager" tell me once that she can't order specific items... corporate just ships them whatever they think they need? What? Anyway this took the cake. I came in to purchase a product on Tuesday because it said it was in stock online. Asked the woman up front and she said they had three in stock. Spent 30+ minutes trying to find them until they gave them up as stolen- whatever sh*t happens right? So she tells me she's 100 percent sure they'll be getting some on Friday (today) and she even checks online. Today I call to put the item on hold and I should've known by the fact that I had to ASK the girl if she needed a name for the hold that she was the wrong person to be talking to... but she says she's got it and that I can come get it later today. I show up about 4 hours later and the girl at the register is clueless. Can't find my hold let alone the product because- surprise surprise!- it didn't even show up in the shipment. I realize it wasn't this girls fault but her customer service skills were so poor that it honestly talking to her annoyed me as much as the situation. I consider myself to be very patient. It's just make-up. But after a number of times being deceived and given attitude when I question anything I've realize that this place is kind of a joke. Good luck y'all. read more

Just had a wonderful time with Jennifer and Clinique! She was so knowledgeable. I recently had my make-up done for a wedding as the stepmother of the groom. The artist gave me a list of her favs. Jennifer helped me coordinate/improve products for my skin type, age and desire to have a very low maintenance plan. She gave me several samples and free gifts as well. The best part was that I never felt rushed. We had a great time and I have zero buyers remorse! Thanks to Jennifer, Clinique and Ulta. I had a very concerning experience today. While they are requiring masks per Colorado orders, I asked the cashier if she was using hand sanitizer at all or between customers. She had an attitude and said that she used sanitizer sporadically. I asked again if it was between each customer where they touch every customer's purchases and money- she said no. I have underlying conditions (I'm in my 30s) and I take care of my father with Cancer... they clearly don't care about protecting their customers! This place is just awful . My visits to this Longmont store have been nothing but disappointing and I've had my last. I will end it with a review they very much deserve. Cashiers and girls that work sales floor obviously hate working there. Attitudes and lack of professional customer service is at it's finest lol. Id be humiliated if I ever treated customers this way. Also I must include their "wonderful" hair salon. Only had my hair done twice . My beloved babyliss Ferrari Voltare V2 blow dryer died and I was desperate for a replacement but didn't want to spend several hundred on that same blow dryer again so I went to this store in hopes of finding a comparable blow dryer for less money. I found a 20% off coupon online and was chatting with the front end staff about using this coupon towards a babyliss nano titanium blow dryer priced at $139.99. The store manager barged into our conversation and she was so unbelievably rude that I really just couldn't bring myself to give them my business so I left. I drove a few blocks down the street to bed bath and beyond, found the SAME blow dryer priced at $89.99, they accepted my 20% off coupon and I left spending only $77 for the same blow dryer and received much better customer service. I made a special trip to see if I liked an advertised Lipstick Queen lipstick. There were no testers so I was not going to spend 40 - 50 $ on a product I could not try. I decided to use a coupon on a 24 $ gold shine lipstick by Lipstick Queen, which also did not have a tester. At checkout I was told that the coupon was not good for that product because it was a prestige product. I would have had to go on line beforehand to know that Lipstick Queen is a prestige product. I pictured this being like one huge Clinique counter where the salespeople make recommendations and help you choose things, etc. I was welcomed as soon as I walked in (plus). I wandered around for awhile and it appeared that the employees were busy putting on make up. That's ok. I eventually went up to the front counter and asked them for what I was looking for. I'm SO upset right now I could cry. I went in last night for a root touch-up and touch-up to my Pravana blue as well as a haircut. To be honest, the haircut is AWESOME. But, I spent two-and-a-half hours in the chair and this morning when I went to brush my hair, noticed that I have as much grey in my hair as I had when I walked in. I fly out of town tomorrow to see family whom I haven't seen in about 10 years and spent one of my last evenings at home sitting in a salon chair, time that was completely wasted. Today, I'm sitting at home with color in my hair again trying to fix what I paid $200 for last night!!!! The cut was phenomenal. I have no fault with that. But at this point, what it boils down to is I spent two and a half hours and $200 for what is basically just a haircut. This is the second time I went to Ulta and had a bad experience. The first, I had signed up for the exact same service on line, and the stylist (I won't name names as she was very nice) did my blue root touch-up, cut my hair, and was ready to send me on my way without ever TOUCHING the obvious grey in my brown hair; she didn't even ask about it. That should have been my first clue. But I gave them the benefit of the doubt, they fixed the brown (after spending an additional hour in the chair because it had all been done in the wrong order) and gave them a second shot thinking that maybe there'd been a glitch when I scheduled with them on line and that the fact that I needed BOTH colors done to fix roots wasn't clear, though, in hindsight, I think that should have been self-evident!!! WHY would I go in just to have one color touched up and not the other when clearly ALL of my hair needed to be colored?! I called this morning and spoke to someone who works there about the issue. I didn't get angry, but explained that I'm leaving town to take care of an ill parent and am not sure when I'll return. I was told that of course they would make it right, that "sometimes these things just happen", and that if I came in within the next two weeks, they'd fix. But I'm not sure I"ll be back within that time frame, and that doesn't change the fact that I'm now doing my own hair that I JUST PAID THEM $200 TO DO FOR ME!!!! Buyer beware. Learn from my mistake and CHECK YOUR HAIR BEFORE YOU LEAVE. ALL of it; not just the parts near your face. I'm so upset I'm not even sure I want to go back and have them 'fix' it. I have had such an amazing experience with this Ulta store and I will be back! The manager, Amanda, has a dedication to customer satisfaction and I was no exception. My mother had bought a Chi straightener for me. The straightener has buttons on the inside that change the settings as you straighten your hair. You can see how this may be frustrating. Amanda took the straightener and exchanged it for me. She took time from the line up front to help me pick a new straightener that would be more suitable to my needs. I have very thick, poofy, wavy hair. She asked me what I was looking for and showed me a few options. When I asked questions she didn't know the answers to, she found them. She asked the stylist, Chalace, to help me out. Chalace asked her client if she could take a short break from her hair to show me what I should be looking for. Together, Chalace and Amanda helped me pick out the best fit for me. They directed me to better quality and more affordable options. I picked out a Hot Tools ceramic straightener with temperature buttons on the side, rather than inside. The straightening surface is about an extra inch and a half long, which is great for thick hair! No more spreading out of the hair to snag in the straightener. I was very pleased with my experience at Ulta, but I was still a little skeptical that the straightener would actually work for my hair. I couldn't wait to go home and try it. I cannot tell you how happy I am with my choice in straighteners. My Hot Tools straightener heats up quickly and stays consistent throughout the whole head. It straightens a strand of hair in only two tries and lasts until the next time you choose to wash your hair. The tool is thin, so you can get really close to your scalp and it leaves your hair silky smooth. You want to go curly that day? No problem. You hardly even have to press down in order to get a perfect lock of curls. Curling my hugely thick head of hair only took 15 minutes. Amanda and Chalace were knowledgeable, helpful, and truly cared. They set me up with a straightener that I liked even better than Chi and saved me money in the process. They made a loyal customer out of me and I will be returning to Ulta for all of my styling needs. read more

Rudest Ulta I have been too. Seems like the customers are an inconvenience to the employees. I had a hard time finding someone to help me. Then when I did, she was unable to help me figure out what products were on sale. Her advice was "just take them both up front and if they're not on sale, put them back". I believe the sales people forgot that their main job is customer service. The attitude and snobbiness from those working in retail was amusing. But the final set back was when three items I bought were over charged and I did not even go back in because I did not want to waste any more of my day in that terrible environment. Also there was a free tote when you spent so much on a brand and I had to tell the cashier who looked horrified I would even ask and then said they were out and gave me some random terrible tote. My experiences with this store was unprofessional and just plain unpleasant. The staff had an attitude since I really didn't know what kind of lipstick I wanted they had no desire to help me with the products. They more or less let me tell them what to do and they just wandered with me no suggestions. What I also noticed is if a customer is dressed very nicely they really want to help you but if your in sweats without makeup etc they just more of less don't offer help you have to ask them. Definitely do not go here!!! I took off from work and took a vacation day to go there to get my hair cut and a perm. As I am pulling in the parking lot for my appointment I receive a phone call from them saying the way their appointments were booked that they were not going to have enough time to give me my perm before their 11:00 appointment. I was the first appointment of the day at 9:30. She said we can cut your hair though, WOW! They wanted me to change my appointment for later in the day. WHAT THE!!!!!!!! How very unprofessional, and to call me when I am walking in the door for my appointment. You cant call me days before my appointment. And even better you shouldnt have the booking online if it doesnt work. I was desperate to choose them in the first place because I needed the perm Lesson learned. yes, they have a lot of products, and the space is clean and organized, but the salespeople there have never been friendly, every time I've gone in. They have never offered me help once I do walk in, and the the last 2 experiences I've had at the register have been terrible. Either bad mood, bored, hate their job, or simply don't like people. I feel like I am being an inconvenience to them, because they have to ring me up and do something. And each time I tried to use a coupon/promotion that was offered, I either was turned away or got the equivalent of rolling eyes, probably because they had to type in a few extra numbers for the code. And there was nobody else in line waiting to check out! I walk out every time saying "I hate this place." If I lived closer to Boulder, I would go to Beauty Brands instead. At least the people there understand the value of good customer service and are happy to help. Oh, and HAPPY.
