I've never received such awful customer service at another Ulta. I came to return a Christmas gift in exchange for just another shade of the same product. The first woman, a petite blonde, was very adamant about "no returns without a receipt" and that is not the store policy (I looked before I came). I left. I called customer service and they explained that what she did was incorrect and if I don't have a receipt then they're supposed to exchange product For product or give a merchandise credit for the current store price. (Which is what the policy says!) I returned to the store. I was greeted by another woman, a small redhead this time, who said the same thing the first woman said. I explained that I just called Ulta customer service and tried to show her the policy. She wouldn't have it. She told me I can't exchange shades then, that I have to get the same product same shade (then why would I even return it for the same exact thing?). Remind you this is UNOPENED product. I again tried to show her the exact ULTA policy stating "Wrong shade? We understand things happen" and promising to accept return of the product "with all original components" which it had because it was unopened with the box around it. She then tried to tell me they have a 90 day return policy and "we don't know when you bought these so it's impossible to return". Which is another lie. (Btw their policy is 60 days. Why do I know more about Ulta company policies than they do?). Finally She snatched them from me with much argument after she realized I wasn't leaving for a second time and said "I'm not going to keep arguing with you, I'll just return them!" And gave me a store credit. I'm happily driving to another Ulta to spend these dollars from now on. They should be ashamed at how this particular location is ran. read more

Harassed entire time while in store.. Was checking out a product that I had intentions on purchasing and as I was looking at the product, I was accused of opening by one of the older employees. Employee didn't ask if I needed help, didn't politely mention that products can only be looked at. Her words "you cannot open products due to CDC". That's it. Nothing reassuring, nice or apologetic about the encounter.. I felt as if I was being reprimanded by a parent vs store clerk. Funny part is I am one of the first employees to work at this location and we were way friendlier during that time and always made sure customers felt comfortable. I don't wear makeup ever. I've tried multiple times in the past so many years and never really found anyone willing to help or answer my million questions. I've left stores before feeling terrible about myself because the shop artists have been very demeaning to me that I dont even know "the basics". I have pictures coming up and gave it one more try to attempt to look nice with a little bit of makeup so I went into ulta today to see if someone could help me. I bought a color shampoo x3 and hated one color. I'm afraid to mix different brands' colors, so I was taking them all back. Not really thinking about it, since it was a very recent purchase. I never knew about a 75% rule, and I get it except is it customer satisfaction or not? Because you could use all of something and be unhappy with it? I just had the most generous customer experience at Ulta in Lee's Summit. I walked in to make a hair appointment but Paige couldn't see me til later in the day. I said I would be shopping nearby, no big deal. Got a call 20 min later from my hairstylist saying she could get me in right now. Awesome. Note: I have am not a regular customer here and do not have an ongoing relationship with anyone at this location. I got my hair trimmed and thought that would be it. Oh, no. My stylist went to town, curling and styling my hair. When it was all done she had turned me into a magnificent creature I didn't recognize in the mirror. Several Ulta employees gathered around my throne complimenting my gorgeous locks. One of them, Evian, asked me what I was doing after my hair and I let her know I had zero plans. Her reply: "You're hanging out with me." She offered to give me a complete makeover. Twenty minutes later, not only did I have a full face (foundation, blush, eyes, brows), the contouring actually looked good and was well blended. When Evian asked me what I wanted to do with my lipstick I knew it was my chance to play with gothy, vamp, matte lips. She knew just the color and took extra care to make sure it looked good. I uploaded photos for your viewing pleasure. Honesty, I thought she would pressure me into buying makeup specifically because she offered to give me a makeover (and it would be warranted). That was not the case at all. She just wanted to give me a complete look with my gorgeous new hair. Everyone (and I seriously mean everyone) who worked at Ulta was genuinely friendly. I wanted my nails gelled, but the salon I use for eyelashes, cost a bit more for nail gels. I thought, '"look at Ulta". I did, and I'm glad. Since I stopped biting my nails on 09/28/2012, they've grown fast, and are long enough to finally get gels. I treated myself. For $25, you get OPI gels. As usual with gels, there's only the limited colors, but I've found that everywhere. My appointment was for 7:15 p.m. while waiting they gave me an Ulta bottled water. I quickly got my nails shaped and gelled. Then she applied oil. I swear they look fake. I was pleased, and made another appointment in 2 weeks time. The second appointment, they remove the gel, and it's only $5 more, then they redo the gel, and shape them up a bit. Ofcourse, it's Ulta. What's not to like about it? I think they are a bit high on their waxes, and they are about above average price on the cost of hair. But for nails, they rock! read more

I went in and asked for a blonde baliage and showed her the picture on the right, she ends up talking it out and it was bleach blonde, she tones it to try and fix her mistake and turns my hair grey, she then adds red toner, and then it turns strawberry blonde and grayish green, then she added blonde toner, and my hair is now like this. This is not directed towards this location. But I ordered over $65 worth of product from ulta.com the address it shipped to was not on my account it was a random address 40 mins away. I immediately called ulta.com after I placed my order I had never had this happen to me. I have ordered multiple time from online and it has always been delivered to my address. I called a minute after it had processed and the customer service rep told me they would try to redirect the package. I get an email hours later saying it was too far along in processing that there was nothing they could do. I called ups with the tracking number I received and and they explained ulta could call and redirect the shipment through them. I informed ulta this and they said there was nothing they could do. So on Sunday herb my package was delivered to the wrong address I drove 40 mins there knocked on the door bc the package says it was left on the porch but there was no package I could see. The man who answered the door told me there was no delivery and shut his door. I emailed Ulta and called them. They said basically there's nothing they could do it was lost money I needed to repurchase it I wanted these products. I work for a cosmetic brand and never would we tell someone it's lost money there is nothing we can do for you. I'm so discussed with their service and how they are handling this situation. I'm not asking for a refund I'm asking for the products I ordered. I will take my business elsewhere from now on and order directly from the brands I enjoy if they are not at Sephora. read more

Normally, I love Ulta. I'll choose them over Beauty Brands (don't even get me started on how much I loathe Beauty Brands) anyday. This location was good the first time I went, but this time...I'll just hope they were short staffed or having an off night. I spent about 20 minutes walking around the store trying to find someone to help me match a foundation shade...and couldn't find anyone. I finally gave up and tried to get my untrained eye to get as close as I could to my right color. It's a little off btw. Frustrating as that is, the rewards program is fantastic and I love all the specials they run. I'll have to suck it up and give them another try after a bit. read more

If you want to avoid a situation where you are stereotyped because of the color of your skin AVOID this location!!!!!! My sisters and I had an incident today at Ulta Beauty, my sister was trying to exchange an unused palette for a different color. Unfortunately, all that the manager and cashier could assume (because we were stereotyped) was that we were trying to run a scam on them. The manager eventually understood that we were trying to exchange the palette and not return it, she let out a big "oooohhhh." Afterwards the manager tried to overcompensate for her error by saying that she'd been at work since 6am, she was even working off the clock according to her while getting her hair done. What's dissappoints me the most is that so many of their customers stared at us as if we were criminals while we were just holding Ulta to their own policy. I will not ever shop at this location again. Shame on you Lee's Summit Ulta. We have brown skin and we deserve to be treated like the respectable customers we are, don't stereotype us. Worst experience with this location today...and that's saying a lot. First off, let me say that I have never found anyone helpful there. I've been to many other stores in the metro and have had wonderful experiences. I only end up going to the Lee's Summit store when I know what I need & only because it's on my way home from work. I expect them to be busy on any weekend, let alone a holiday weekend with a big beauty campaign starting, but I have come in at 10:30 on a Wednesday morning & gotten crappy service. That being said, I will gladly go out of my way from now on, or just buy online from now on. Today started their "21 days of beauty". I've been wanting to try Too Faced's Chocolate Bar, so I decided to get it now because they had a pretty decent gift with purchase (free cosmetic bag & melted matte lipstick). I get up to the register and ask about the free gift & the lady checking me out literally has no clue what I'm talking about. I tell her that it was in the ad. We have another round of "we don't have a free gift with purchase", "well it was in the ad". It's at this point some snarky employee at the next register interjects and says "they don't always give us all the free gifts that are listed in the ad". Like I'm some sort of idiot for not knowing this. But, they can give me some dinky other free gift. Because I don't want to make a scene and be "that person" for a free gift, I complete my purchase. The first sales woman hands me my receipt without even looking at me, so I just take it and leave. Needless to say, I will definitely not be giving them a good review on their little survey--might even call the corporate office on this one. And I will definitely be returning this palette and either buying it online or at a different store (*cough* Sephora *cough*). If I was allowed to give it zero stars, I would. Probably the worst customer service ive ever experienced ever. They are so rude and condescending. Ive gone in multiple times for suggestions on products such as powders with zero flash back besides the TooFaced Born This Way, and left with two powders that gave AWFUL flashback. Even without baking with it. I went in another time asking for a lightweight full coverage foundation that actually matches my skin tone and doesnt oxidize, i once again left with a foundation that was WAY too dark for me, and oxidized to an even darker shade!! It looks absolutely terrible. Id go in asking for a cheaper foundation that is still good and still get pressured into looking at Tarte and Urban Decays foundations. I'll say ive tried a product before and it didnt work the way i thought and i get a huff, an eye roll, and told that im then just using the product wrong. WORST HAIR COLOR OF MY LIFE! Let me start by saying, never in my life have I ever written a Yelp review. And I never thought I would. I never thought I'd care enough to. Bad restaurants? Oh well. Bad customer service? Yep, that happens a lot. Shitty workers? Standard. ..... And then today happened. I'm a busy person who works incredibly hard at what I do and rarely takes a day off. I'm going on vacation for the first time in years in a few days so I thought today I'd take some time out of my day to get my hair cut and colored so that I can look nice. Ulta Beauty had other ideas in mind for me, apparently. I saw Rachel. Who you will quickly learn, clearly has no business ever touching anyone's hair. I have dark blonde hair, often referred to as 'sandy blonde' hair. It's very pretty and I have a very natural look that I've had ever since I was born practically. Let me interject at this point that never in my life have I ever complained to a stylist I've seen or ever been unhappy with a hair color. I'm pretty easy. But then again, what I ask for is pretty easy. I love my natural color so I like to keep that and accentuate it with a light blonde balayage. It's what I've always gotten. It's pretty simple. However, when Rachel did her 'balayage' today she managed to turn all of my pretty sandy blonde hair a lovely shade of ORANGE. I could see it even when my hair was wet and to my face. I had orange hair. When I asked her why my hair was orange she gave me some nonsensical answer, "Well, when you want to go light sometimes this can happen...." Well, Rachel, no other stylist I've ever seen in my 25 years has ever messed this shit up. It's just you. Then she decided to put more toner on my hair to 'fix it.' I knew there was no fixing this disaster. First of all - I asked for a balayage and what she gave me was not a balayage at all. Rachel gave me a wanky color job with a chunky dismantle to my roots. Literally SO BAD. My 5 year old nephew could have done a better job. When I pointed all the inconsistencies out she said 'she does her own style of balayage' (AKA terrible and not a balayage at all). She told me I should have brought a picture (does she not know what balayge means?!) and that 'every stylist has their own interpretation' Apparently Rachel's interpretation was to take my beautiful hair and turn it all orange. Then she tells me it just needs more toner. When the second batch of toner was done, the top half of my hair was still orange and brassy, and my tips are grey. Absolutely lovely. NEVER GO HERE. MY HAIR HAS BEEN BUTCHERED. She then charge me $52.00 for a five minute haircut. Perhaps trying to make up some money for the coloring that went wrong. She first tried to charge me for the full amount of cut/color which I scoffed at. She expected me to pay $200 for her to royally screw up my hair. Literally the worst experience of my life. I left in tears. Rachel should not be doing hair. She is clearly incompetent and just doesn't give a shit. I have an appointment with a correctionist tomorrow to try and rectify this situation which will cost me $100/hr. Thanks ULTA, both mostly Rachel, for sucking major balls!!!! Rachel, you made me sit in your chair for 4 1/2 hours to insure my hair won't ever be the same it was for years. You suck so much. read more

0 Stars. I am so disappointed in Ulta, especially this one and how terrible the manager is. I went in to request a refund, during this process, the cashier said the refund will go to "****" card and I said that will not work because it is a gift card that I do not have anymore, I will need the refund in another way. She said "okay lets try this instead". Long story short it went to the giftcard that I do not have. The manager said there is nothing they can do for me and turned me away to the customer service line. The customer service line has been everything except helpful so far (they have tried their best but literally can't do anything). I have been waiting to talk to a supervisor way past the promised maximum time now. The customer service line also said that the manager should have given me a giftcard when she was not able to fix the situation but instead when I was at the store and asked for a giftcard, to replace my now lost in thin air money, the manager said she couldn't do that because then they would be out double the amount of money. Even though NONE of this was MY fault. I am not one to ever be confrontational or to leave negative reviews, but this situation is seriously insane. I've been to this Ulta location several times only because it's one of the closer ones to me. But oh man! The staff at this location is NOT very friendly! It makes me sad because I love Ulta, but every time I've gone to this location whether alone or with a friend we've noticed there's a lot of tension among the staff. There's usually 2-3 people maximum working the whole store front (that includes the 1 person they have in the salon). It's likely they're just understaffed by the hours management is allowed set by corporate which really isn't their fault. But the generally un-eager to help attitude doesn't help that either. If you ask them for assistance or if they have a product that is scheduled to already be in Ulta's stock they'll shrug and be like "I guess we don't have it" instead of explaining 1.) when to get it 2.) whether another location can be called to see if they have it 3.) if they've even managed to open their stock yet. I do like that the prestige side of the store is generally much more well kept than most locations. However, that could be because this Ulta's reputation for unkindness has caused some of their more high-end buying customers to stop shopping here. read more

First of all let me say that this was my second facial at ULTA in Lee's Summit, MO. If you have been on the fence, jump off and run, don't walk, to get one from Lindsy. She is amazing! She is knowledgeable and has a very soft touch, just wait until she is massaging your face. Pure heaven. The day of my second facial, I also got my hair cut by Sydni. She is very talented. My haircut was great! She took her time and listened to what I wanted. It was one of the only times I haven't left a salon and fixed the styling of my hair as soon as I got outside. With all of that being said, the store manager Stephanie is quite brusque. She was the cashier when I checked out. She didn't greet me. She didn't ask me how my services were. I spent almost $200 and she never even thanked me. She was too busy berating her staff over product left by the cash register and asking her salon manager the same question at least 10 times. (Something about "and which number does that effect?" regarding someone's schedule being blacked out.) It is my birthday month and I was excited to get my birthday gift but I couldn't ask for it because she was so busy badgering those poor women that I couldn't get a word in. She was still talking to the salon manager (I didn't see her name tag) as she handed me my change. I love the facial and the haircut. The staff members are very kind and talented but the store manager has really put a super sour taste in my mouth. If she is there, I'm not sure I'll be back. I definitely wouldn't work there. If I was giving stars based on my services, they would each get 5. But my check out was horrendous. Sorry ULTA. You have a problem at your Lee's Summit location and it needs to be fixed. read more

Amazing service!! I moved here from out of state and didn't know where to go. I found the Ulta in Lee's Summit and the staff was friendly fun and didn't hover while I looked around. They also stopped to help me as soon as I asked. The Salon stylist made sure I felt comfortable and helpful. I had Ashton, she is amazing. She asked what I wanted, listened to my concerns and the amount of effort I was willing to put into the style. She made suggestions but also made sure I understood what I was getting and how much time it would take to maintain it. I keep going back because I have a blast with her and her ability to help me. I only get charged for services I get and there is never any pressure of up selling products or services. I highly recommend this store and the staff!!! read more

I moved to Missouri 2 years ago from NJ/NYC area and always had a hard time finding a stylist since the move. I've tried the blue springs Ulta and few privately owned salons and had hair-nightmares. No one gave me the color I wanted and I was about to give up. This was my last shot. I'm already super blonde so going platinum isn't a crazy request at this point. Everyone just wanted to give me crazy silver hair even though I never wanted it. I was booked with Camilla on Wednesday the 19th, and my nightmare was over! I told her everyone I went to was over toning my hair and turning it grey, that all I wanted was to be platinum again and she did it! Without killing all of my hair! She was super nice and I told her I had a sensitive scalp, so she added sweet n low to the bleach and put cream around my hairline and it didn't burn as bad as it usually does! She recommended a trim but I am stubborn and declined although I probably need one, and for once I didn't feel overly pressured.. she didn't act rude about it, like other stylists. She didn't rush through the process and made sure everything was going well. I definitely recommend Camillia to anyone looking for a stylist who isn't cocky and rude and does a great job. Today I got my eyebrows done at the benefit brow bar with a blonde hair lady (her name was Catrice or something). Made an appointment but I was late about 5 minutes. When I got there the beautician was about to accept a customer who did walk in. When she saw me she was about to turn the customer down but I told them to go ahead. (I did it because I would feel bad if I didn't. But now I wish I didn't do it) When she was done with the customer she came and got me. I signed the agreement paper before the service. She started marking on my eyebrows saying what she's doing is to find my natural eyebrows shapes. In my head I was thinking 'Isn't she supposed to consult about the shape I want before she does anything?' (I've been to benefit brow bars located in different cities including New York). I waited for her to talk about what her plan is with my eyebrows. SHE DID NOT AND WENT STRAIGHT TO WAXING PART after she said 'I will wax bottom part'. I thought she is waxing bottom part because my eyebrows were pretty messy since I grew them out for the appointment. I thought maybe it's her way to prep before the consultation. NOPE it wasn't. She didn't talk to me about a shape at all or ask me what I want. I finally could see a mirror after she's done with waxing and tweezing to do the final touch. When I saw the mirror, I was so upset inside. My eyebrows grow in a way that I can make my arch high or just subtle arch. I do not like high arch because it makes me look mad. I usually trim top part of the arch to make the arch lower. However, she made my arch high which is exactly what I don't like. When she asked if I want concealer and filling in. I said filling in only hoping that it will look better. NOPE. It looked worse. After the service, I went to the other side of the store to check my eyebrows and tried to remove what she did to my eyebrows. When she started waxing without consultation, I knew it will be a bad experience and I just letted it be. I've never been unsatisfied with benefit brow bar service until today. Really disappointed. During the service, she checked her watch which made me wondered if she's in a rush. She wasn't friendly either. Also, while she was doing my eyebrows, other associates came and talked to her. If she was friendly and talked during the service to comfort me, I would not be bothered by it. But she didn't and also she didn't say a word and act like nothing happened when she continued the service after the interruption which made me feel more like I am not treated right and she's ready to be done with my appointment. I have been in here twice and both time there as so much disorganization and confusion at the checkout with the promoted giveaways. The second time they did not even have the advertised promotion in stock yet. That was irritating because I had planned some of my holiday gifts using the promotions. Lastly, I wrote down specifically which perfume I wanted on a list for my husband and suggested he go there as I knew they carried it. Almost all the shelves were empty. I had to hunt someone down to help me. All the employees were at the front counter talking to each other. I asked one of the workers if they had anymore mascara and she said "they were sold out and so was every store in the area (after I asked her to call another Ulta)" and then she went on to tell me "the company didn't make enough of this mascara, so they wouldn't be getting anymore for some time". I also heard her tell someone else that they were better off ordering it online, then coming back. Worst haircut of my life. Stylist decided to do her own version of hair cut. Asked for a trim and got about four inches taken off. She also decided to put layers in when I specifically asked for none. She mentioned that she was not good with ethnic hair per her last appointment ran later than expected bumping my appointment back. Not to mention I have very curly thick hair. I had to tell her that she needed to do smaller sections to get it fully straightened after she continuously told me that was as straight as she could get it. Would not recommend Tina to anyone and she should not be titled Salon Manager. read more

I waited a week before posting this review because I wanted to be as fair as possible about my experience at this hair salon in Lee's Summit. The person that cut my hair did a fine job with the haircut. No issue there. However there were a couple of things I did not like. The first one is what caused me to give this business a two star rating. First, the hairstylist was constantly giving me sales pitches on hair products and services, to the point where it was uncomfortable. The second issue was the cost. It was $47 for a wash, haircut and blow dry. Stylist was more concerned about the blow dry than the actual cut. Something I thought would be simple ended up being impossible to perform- I wanted to add layers to waist length hair. Instead I have a chunk of bangs that start at my chin and back layers that start at my bra strap. I had multiple pictures and explained what I wanted. I'm very unhappy with the cut and now it will take me at least a year to grow out these awful bangs and incorporate them back into my layers. I haven't had hair like this since middle school! But what can I do? I don't want to cut them shorter, it'll take longer to grow them out, so now I'm trying to find creative ways of clipping them back. I'm always nervous finding a new stylist that can cut long hair properly, this is not the place. read more

I had such a great experience here! My hair stylist, Caitlin, did an amazing job. She listened to what I wanted, and consulted with another woman to really make sure I got what I was asking for. The place was clean, and the whole staff was friendly and engaged in conversation. The price was very reasonably especially considering I did all over color on very long hair.
