The salon - I went to the salon a few times with average experiences but with worse experiences at other places as well as lack of experience in other establishments, I kept giving Ulta a "second chance" because the stylists are supposedly trained in more specialized techniques in dying hair. I found a stylist who was AMAZING with my hair and she was one of the few, if only, woman of color there (she had a similar hair type and knew what my hair needed). I loyally went to Gisselle and watched management actively treat her poorly. Ultimately she left and I went with her (Mirror Mirror Salon in Kingston) and I have no need to return to Ulta in the future. read more

I love this Ulta. They keep their products well stocked. The staff is always very helpful and friendly. Edward at Clinique always greets all the guests with a warm smile, and has great product knowledge. I recently got my hair done from Gisele. My hair is very thick and curly and she got it pin straight. It looks beautiful and the style maintained for a long time. She was very friendly, personable, and she gave me great tips on what products would work well with my hair type. I will definitely rebook with her in the future. read more

Unfortunate experience at Ulta Salon, Kingston. Technician used wrong hair color, without consulting with me first and hair was severely over processed. As a result of this, I had a second haircut, cutting off 4 inches of damaged hair. I would also suggest additional customer service training for the technicians. read more

It's a small store, but the SA's have always been helpful to me. They know their stuff, they don't push unwanted products onto me AND they hire older women, which is both important and wise. We have waaay more money to spend than the younger crowd. I'll either shop here or online. I like these people. read more

Browsed around the shampoo isle and decided to buy both a 33 oz matrix shampoo and a 33 oz matrix conditioner bringing my total spending up to $60 with the promise of a $30 value hair mask promo when you buy over $30 worth of matrix product. When I got to the counter they had none of the hair mask left in store... instead the girl with a slight attitude told me it's a first come first serve basis... she instead gave me some flimsy tchotchke hair crap with no name label. read more

This place is amazing. I came in really upset because perfect 10 ruined my eyebrows. Long story short... Gabrielle at ultra made my eyebrows symmetrical and taught me how to touch up my eyebrows with make up. She truly saved my life and was extremely helpful and friendly! read more

As you walk in you're greeted by a small army of well coifed girls, all eager to assist. They are delightful and well versed in their products but their sheer numbers should alert you to the high prices ahead of you. I asked for a sunscreen recommendation and was guided to a tiny bottle for close to $40. Ditto my questions about a travel size shampoo and conditioner. I'm not suggesting their prices are higher than other establishments for the same products, just that they will be hard pressed to do much business past the curiosity of their opening months. I have work for other cooperations doing and hair and by far Ulta tears there employees wonderful I couldn't ask for a better management team to work for or employees to work. Anywhere there are that many young women in their 20's working- there is going to be a certain amount of attitude, inexperience & vocal fry annoyance from at least a few of them. The thing that concerns me more is that they will "tell you" that they do not hire hair stylists straight out of school, but when you look at the classified ad online for Ulta hair salon stylists, it says very clearly: "Cosmetology diploma, no relevant work experience or equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience." THAT is scary. Not that a recently graduated stylist couldn't be great at doing hair, but that Ulta lets them lie about experience is concerning. read more

I walked in last Friday and NO-ONE greeted me, NO-ONE asked if they could help me and therefore NO-ONE got any of my money. I walked around for 10 minutes with at least 5 employees who acted like snobs ignored me. So I left. The gentleman behind the counter never even turned to see who walked in and he was not with any customers, just his phone. It'll be a cold day in hell before I go there again. Every single time I enter this store, I am greeted respectfully and with a smile. The salespeople are extremely helpful and seem to know their products. If they don't, they ask another person who may be more fluent in a specific brand. I always feel comfortable asking questions because they aren't too pushy, just wanting to scour around with me to find some ideas and try new things. I am thankful that we have Ulta in Kingston. There is no feeling except help and humble support. Once in awhile they will bring in a rep from a brand and they can be pushy. I don't like that. Keep doing what you are doing in Ulta Kingston. P.S. I almost bought a small size shampoo and the salesperson caught it and said, "Wait! The larger one is on sale and only a dollar more than the small size!" I went to the salon to get my hair cut and colored, sounds simple right? Well my forehead was stained by the color and the women who cut my hair needs to learn how to cut a bob. All I can say is over priced and awful hair cut and color. I would not recommend anyone go there read more

honestly, had a really frustrating experience. i have gone here before to get my makeup done for prom a couple of years ago and went back today (after calling several days in advance to schedule a consultation ) in hopes of having somebody help me with my makeup before getting my headshots done. i have hyperpigmentation and acne brought on by chronic illness and it basically took 4 people to collectively work together to inform me they were "at a loss" for finding a product. i have been to a lot of other salons that have worked with me until a product was found and was honestly really disappointed by Ulta today. the whole experienced felt rushed, i did not feel heard and i left feeling insecure. Will not be returning when there are so many other salons that can offer more. (The aesthetician was very sweet and understanding, so the 2 stars are for her) read more

I've been here about 5 times and most of the time I walk out with something in my hand. That being said, I have yet to be impressed with the staff. Only one out of the women who work there understands what good customer service is. I don't know her name but she is a pretty blonde and she was helpful, courteous, pleasant and very friendly. Give this girl a raise! She wasn't snippy or rude like one that I, unfortunately, had to deal with. She wasn't helpful when I asked her about a product alternative. I understand if they didn't have something I wanted but there is a way to talk to people. No need to be bitchy. Anyway, it is a small store which is really too bad. I've had to go to Poughkeepsie for a larger selection but I don't find myself with the time to do that very often so I go to Kingston just because it is much closer. It's too bad that Ulta can be expensive. I remember when their prices were a little more reasonable and that was before they were up here in the northeast. read more
