I book at Ulta for convenience and timeliness, the prices are on the higher end for general stylist. It's worth it to me as long as I can get in and out on time. I booked an 1130 am on a Thursday, and unfortunately I left because 25 minutes after the start time of my appointment the stylist was working on another client.. When I arrived, I was surprised to see that the stylist was half way through flat ironing someone's hair. The customer had long thick beautiful hair, i'm estimating it would take another 30 minutes to complete the flat ironing. The stylist did not acknowledge that I was there, I assumed there may be a different stylist. After waiting a minute or 2 I spoke directly to the stylist doing the flat ironing, and when I stated I was there for my scheduled appointment which we were already pass the start time of, the stylist simply acknowledge that they saw me. This is when I understood that this was the stylist for my appointment. After waiting a bit and walking through the store I left. I will not return.l to the salon. I've seen a decline in the service and there are similarly priced/cheaper places that provide better results when I have the extra time for an appointment. read more

I have shopped at this Ulta on several occasions over the years. It is usually well stocked and organized. The staff are usually available to assist with recommendations or suggestions. I have had Brow services performed by Laura and Chloe and was pleasantly surprised on both occasions. They are personable and listen to what I wanted and they delivered. I generally schedule the appointment before the store opens. It is nice without distractions and I enjoy browsing without other customers. read more

Absolutely terrible customer service at this location. Specifically, the two ladies working the cashier on June 14th around 5pm. I simply asked if they had something in stock, and they acted like that was such a stupid question to ask. I explained I have severe allergies and therefore don't have the option of alternatives, they laughed and told me they "don't know". When I walked away, they continued to laugh and talk about me to the point I could hear them from halfway across the store. I will never go to this location again. read more

The manager on duty on 11.6.25, Jackie does NOT know how to help a customer. While checking out the obviously novice employee could not find my rewards account; did not know how to find when I offered several approaches. I ended up just saying forget the points I would just like to check out. Jackie the manager was one register down and heard the conversation/ my frustration. No offer to help resolve. Anyway when I presented my Ulta credit card... the kiosk did not work. Of course I was frustrated.. line of people, gave up my rewards redemption and the kiosk to pay did not work. Jackie came around the register invaded my personal space and cited that I was making the cashier uncomfortable.. are you kidding??? What about trying to help resolve the purchase of stepping in to train your employee through the transaction?? Anyway I extended my hand to get her out of my space and she 'barked' don't touch me !!! I appreciate that your new salon team was able to accommodate me when somehow my appointment was cancelled in the system. However, you need to get your act together on a few things: If in fact your computer system is magically cancelling appointments- and no one had called me to say my stylist had left five hours before my appointment- don't turn this on me. Don't say to me something like, maybe my stylist thought I'd be celebrating Easter with my family. You have no idea how manipulative that sounded. I had to return a $149.00 curling iron.my total bill that day includes a couple other items too. I had a $50 gift certificate. so I payed $141.00 on my debit card and $50 by gift Certificate. When I returned the curling iron I should have received roughly $164.00 .(tax) oh no! they returned $ 141.00 to my debit card and the rest to A GIFT CERTIFICATE THAT I HANDED OVER TO ULTA at the time of purchase because it was used up. They throw those away. Store mgr couldn't fix it so she called someone named Denise who took all my information and promised to call me back. Of course no one has called me back. What a joke! I had my receipts. so that $15.00 went back on a gift certificate that was thrown away. Isn't a GC suppose to be like cash? There so many beautiful stuff there for people how like all kinds of skin and hair products. Also there perfume for man and woman alike too. The employees really nice and sweet they will make u feel welcome. Clean store and very friendly service. I was approached multiple times asking if I needed help, which I appreciate even though I'm someone who is more of a solo shopper. Also very appreciative of the associate who kindly stepped away from the fixture she was working near so I could grab the product I was looking for, while still adhering to social distancing guidelines. I'm closer to the Skokie location so I usually shop there, but I shop here every once in a while. I'm surprised to see so many negative reviews about rude staff. The staff here has been friendly every single time I've shopped here, pre-pandemic experiences included. Makes me wonder what kind of attitudes some of these people leaving negative reviews were giving. I've worked in retail a long time, and I can count on one hand the amount of times I've seen an employee give a customer undeserved attitude. Just saying. One of the best experiences I've had with an Ulta in the last decade, at least. The staff was friendly and very helpful, and the store was well-stocked! There is one reason I go to this place - Casey. She started cutting my hair at Forbici. Then she left there to partner with another stylists for a while and finally opened her own shop. I followed her through every one of her moves. Then my job changed, and her hours and mine didn't mesh anymore. So I tried regular barbershops and even several different 'sports cut' type places, but I never got a consistently great haircut like I always got from Casey. Then things got better because she started working at Ulta around the same time my work hours improved. I was ecstatic to know I could once again have her cut my hair. A minor return and possible new purchase became a major problem for my wife, the customer, today. Simple service plus genuine help and efficiency would have been better than sales pitches and unpleasantries plus a loss for all involved of 15 minutes or more. Tip: Help the customer, get on with what else will end the issue, and stay focused on business. Old-fashioned customer service would go a long way at this Ulta. The store was stocked with a wide variety of items. I was shocked by the organic, non paraban items available. The prices are reasonable for name brands. They had multivitamins for sale too! If you have time, they offer free makeovers with a purchase. This store sells beauty products for all skin types. Customers can but such items as cologne, conditioner, shampoo, makeup, tea tree oil, products for at home facials, scented lotions and much more! read more

It's OK. I don't think this is the BEST Ulta store, but basically the reason I go here is to get products I already use or want to try. The promotion used the most was the coupons they send in the mail for $3.50 off, so I never experienced problems with "gift" promotions, but lately I have been too busy to even keep up with the coupons. Sometimes they do have "buy two, get one free" on Matrix hair products, and sometimes they run out, but then I just don't buy them at all. That promotion is so frequent, it is no real loss. It's close to the grocery store, so it's convenient I actually prefer the Kildeer Ulta and the Deer Park Sephora to this store. The Sephora doesn't sell as many hair products or low end cosmetics though. They seem a bit friendlier and it seems less crowded at the store in Kildeer (across the street from the Deer Park Mall near Cost Plus World Market). Over time, I have had my fair share of questionable customer service here, but I have learned one thing, if anyone asks you if you need help (rare, unless you are in the expensive cosmetics section) just say, "No, thank you." You will be much happier in the end. If you do need help, go to Sephora instead. If you like free gifts try Macy's or Sephora (if you want to do points rewards). Then you only have to go to the register and pay. There is a woman I have had several times who seems friendly enough. Nicer than the typical clerks I have had in the past. Nice to me, even though lately I have been showing up in sweats with little to no makeup. Basically my advice is get in, get the stuff you need, and get out. My Ulta experiences at this location are generally always hit or miss. Either I get greeted upon entering and have someone available to help me around every corner or everyone is extremely pretentious and will only help if I'm looking at anything over on the prestige side. It's nice that they generally have a stocked selection of products but I find drug store products to be pricey at Ulta as compared to a true drug store. Yes, they have coupons but even at times with the coupons, it's just not the best bang for your buck. I've never had an experience I loved at this location's salon either. Maybe I'm going to the wrong stylist. All in all, if I'm looking to get in and out with an eyeliner or something I don't need assistance with, this store serves its purpose. I decided to try Ulta for a facial after being enticed by their 20% off first time skin services. The pricing for facials is super reasonable anyway ($60 for 60 mins, almost unheard of) and the discount was a bonus as far as I was concerned. Rachel was my skin tech this time and she took the time to ask questions about my routine and any trouble areas I might have. We then began the facial. You guuuuuuys. I am so happy with this experience. I've had maybe 20 facials my whole life and this was at the very tip top of the list. All of the Dermalogica products felt great on my skin and smelled amazing and Rachel made like half the treatment a massage. She cleansed, streamed, exfoliated, masked, and moisturized. She even used this little ultrasonic tool that felt like she was spreading frosting on my face. The extractions barely even hurt, too, and she had a lot to extract from the goldmine in my nose. All in all, FABULOUS! Do yourself a favor and try this out at least once. If you're disappointed, I will eat my hat* *hat is another word for lunch read more

This update concerns the BrowBar. I called to book my appointment on Monday, June 11, and the best Ulta in Arlington Hts could do for me was an appointment at 6pm on Friday, June 22. They had NO ONE available for the full week of June 11 which is appalling. I called the Benefit BrowBar at Macy's immediately afterwards and they scheduled me for Tuesday, June 12 at 10am and did the absolute best job with my eyebrows. There were quite a few people waiting to be checked out including myself. No one was at the cash register. We waited for five minutes. Finally I flagged down a sales person to come up. If I hadn't done that, we would have waited a lot longer. I found this unacceptable. On another occasion, I made a purchase which included a free gift. She was a riot, in a good way- I really appreciated her genuine presence and just being herself and not some corporate suck up trying to up-sell me. My hair still looks awesome after rolling around in bed all night, and hopefully with her styling tips I'll be able to do what she did on my own. I was very put off that the receptionist just added a deep conditioning treatment to my appointment without even asking me, like really? I can't even trust making an appointment? They even called two days before to remind me appointment and could maybe say what it's for when they call. If I could give this place zero stars I would. Wanted a balayage and gave me a girl that had never done it before, ever. She first gave me little peekaboo highlights which isn't close to what I wanted so I went back two days later. She bleached my virgin hair and kept it in foils for 3 hours. That can't be right. I spent a total of 7 hours trying to get it right and spent $120. I gave up and went to a friend that knew that correct technique to execute a balayage correctly. I called this salon and they told me that they participate in Pantene Beautiful Lengths, which donates hair to cancer patients, but they do not. I was charged full price (around $36). Had I known this, I would not have gone here. More importantly, I was very disappointed with the cut and wore my hair up for several months after the cut. I came in to donate my hair and cut off 8 inches. I showed Katie a picture of what I wanted and explained that I wanted a blunt cut. She kept recommending layers even though I was hesitant about getting them because I didn't like them in the past. I asked if I could get a blunt cut to see how it would look and then if I didn't like it, she could put in layers. She said made it seem kind of like it would be more burdensome for her and a hassle, so I just agreed to let her put in a little bit layers. I was getting nervous when she was cutting my hair because she was putting in a ton of layers. In the end, the cut was one I hated and did not want: super round and mushroom like and the layers were not blended. I was actually happier with the cut when she had just cut the 8 inches off straight and it was uneven. I know my hair will grow back but it was kind of a bummer because I had been growing my hair out for so long and expected a decent cut I could wear down. Also, when you donate your hair, you're supposed to tie it before you cut it. Apparently, they can't use it if it's not tied. Well, for one of the sections, she did not tie it tightly and after she cut it, it unraveled. She tied that section again but pieces of hair kept falling out of that section and I kind of wonder if they will not be able to use it to make the wig. I thought about going back to get it cut straight but it would be way too short then because she started the layers so short. I'll just have to wait until it grows back. The last time I came to this particular salon was about 10 years ago. It used to be a lot nicer and more professional looking. Now it's just in the back corner in an open space and it seems a little run down. By the way, the cut I had 10 years ago was great. It was by an older woman and she gave me the exact cut I asked for. It seems like now, most of their stylists are young (which I guess is not necessarily a bad thing) and the one I had was really opinionated about what style would look best on me. If you do end up going here, I would recommend knowing what kind of hair style you want and not giving into what the stylist wants to do with your hair. Also, the cut itself took a really long time. It was about an hour just for the cut and when I told her that I don't do a lot to my hair and asked how it would look when it dried naturally, she said she had no idea. read more

I loved this location until a recent interaction with a obnoxious employee. I forgot my coupon and went to the counter to purchase 3 makeup items and 1 OPI polish. I was about to ask a question but about 3 words in the employee cut me off/talked over me about something I wasn't even asking about. I actually was in a good mood but she just caught me wrong. I told her, "now that you have talked over me and interrupted not to mention you didn't even answer the question I was going to ask, I'll go back and get do as I was scolded." Normally I'm not that snarky but she was just rude. I grabbed another polish and got back in line. She called me up next and I turned to the person behind me offering her the chance to go ahead of me with the said employee although warning her about asking any questions. As Justin U. mentioned, the best reason to get your hair cut here is Casey. My parents have been going to her for years, and the last time I was in town I needed a haircut. Usually I go into the city to another family friend, but with time restrictions that wasn't going to happen. Since Casey is right around the corner from my parent's house, I decided to finally give her a try. I was not disappointed. My hair texture has changed from having babies and I've been slightly disappointed with other haircuts in years past due to this unexpected change. But, Casey listened to me and understood my hair situation. She gave me a great cut that has been growing out great - even 6 months later. (What can I say, getting my hair cut is no longer a priority!). I wish I'd be back in town anytime soon so I could get another cut from her. In the meantime, perhaps I'll just wear it up until I can see her again. :) read more

I've been to many salons to get this specific look that I wanted and finally someone has gotten it right! I had highlights done here that were fabulous about 6 years ago and have gone to a bunch of different places to replicate this look since the person that did my hair 6 years ago doesn't work there anymore. I didn't think of going back to this place only because I moved farther away making it difficult to come here. Other places didn't give me the amount of highlights that I wanted or the color was wrong. So any who a few days ago a nice girl named Vanessa did my highlights. Here's the problem with my hair. I HAVE LOTS OF IT. Not only do I have lots of it but it takes a LONG TIME to process it. I was going from dark brown to strawberry blonde, so I knew this was going to be a difficult task. I told her what I wanted and she knew exactly what to do. It took about an hour and a half to put in the highlights and process. This is the FASTEST it has ever gone. I've waited 3-5 hours before and it never turned out the way I wanted. They used only Redken products so I don't know if that's considered "cheap" or not, but I paid $190 for a complete color makeover and a cut. Totally worth it. Obviously bikini waxes aren't the most fun thing in the world but Kristin was very professional and her number 1 priority was my comfort. I would definitely recommend her for waxing services. Worst experience I have had at an Ulta. There were 5 employees in the front that did not greet me or ask if I needed help with anything. I wondered the store looking for a specific self tanner and wasn't approached once. Instead, the girls were more concerned with recording people out front and openly making fun of customers. It was super uncomfortable and unprofessional. I finally approached the group and asked if someone could help me and only one turned around while the others still stood in the window recording people. I had about $70 worth of product in my hands that I put back because I can not support businesses that allow that behavior. They DO use cheap products here. The girl that colored my hair admitted it to me when I said the shampoo she was using smelled good..and familiar. It was TIGI's Oatmeal and Honey shampoo just put into a more expensive brand's bottle! Nice! Okay, this is going to be long because I'm pretty passionate about people know the kind of service you will receive here and hope that I can discourage enough people to NOT shop here! First off, I shopped here all the time before this incident and never seemed to have any "Bad" experiences. Just this time was a doozy and end all for me. I will NEVER give them my business again! My boyfriend and I went here only planning on getting his hair cut. Well, I got talked into a color...that was supposed to be a "glaze"..which I had gone in a few days early and asked what the safest thing to do with my hair at this point would be (I'm almost 5 mo. Preggers) and was told that was best. I was also told it was only $45. Well, ended up getting charged $60 and I'm pretty sure it was NOT a glaze! Anyhoo, the haircut my bf got very sub-par. The back wasn't even straight! When going up to pay for our 'dos my bf noticed that I had a huge dye stain on the back of my maternity shirt. So, I proceeded to the counter and asked the guy if I could get a discount, considering I only had a few preggo shirts. The guy behind the counter just looked at me. Then told me there was nothing he could do about it! Then I asked if he had a manager..and he was like, "Yeah, I guess". I guess?? So up comes this other guy who, when told what happened, asked me who did my hair. With a big sigh he just walked away..headed towards the salon without another word!!! I was mortified and tried to tell him to please not go and put me on the spot with the hairstylist. He just kept going without looking back. I could NOT believe this!! Neither associated had bothered to apologize yet. As I was waiting I was telling my bf that even if they could get a solution to get the stain out I'd be happy but as I was talking to him HIS hairstylist walked up to the middle of the store and just glared at us with a disgusted b*tch face. When I saw her I tried to flag her down and as she noticed me looking she blatently turned her back on me and walked away!!!!!!!! That was it! I walked back to the salon where the male manager was having a pow-wow with a bunch of the salon girls, including my hairdresser. I was so upset at this point I was shaking. The girl that was giving us the head shaking looking of disgust had taken off and was no where to be found. Probably a good thing for her at this point! As I approached the blank faced manager I told him just what I felt. That it was completely unprofessional of him to put the customer on the spot like that and to walk away when he was being spoken to. He had this enormous form he was holding and had nothing to say but that I had to fill it out. I told him I was not filling anything out. My hairdresser came up to me and I explained what had happened and that I was not upset with her. That I loved my color (Though it was most likely NOT what I had requested) and even left her a big tip. She was rattled of course because she could see how upset I was and who knows what her manager had said to her. If he had reprimanded her in the middle of the store or not! She got some solution to try and get out the stain but that didn't help so another girl came up and was also helpful and sprayed it with hairspray which was supposed to help it not to settle. The male manager had disappeared after I had told him I was not going to fill out the form. Who knows where he went...he never tried to remedy the situation. My bf was left standing at the register and they had voided out the transaction apparently while they were waiting for me to come back up to the front. So, he came back to see what was going on and by that time I was done with the girls and ready to leave. So we walked out....I didn't realize what had happened at the register..that he hadn't paid. So, I made him go back in and pay. Therefore, I lost all the points on my card and we were still not given ANY discount. Also, another manager at this point had come up to the registers (a curly fair haired lady) and guess what?? She didn't apologize or try to remedy the situation either! Nice! I went to an Ulta in Deerfield the next day to get the points credited to my card and they were super nice. I asked to speak to their manager to just document the situation but was given the District Manager's (Pam Lieberken) phone number. Well, it's been more then 24 hours since I started calling her (3 times now) and surprise, surprise...she hasn't answered or called back!!! I am writing this review ONLY because my wife refuses to do so and it absolutely needs to be done. She drags me with her because she thinks that when she's alone the staff can be rude/unhelpful and that if I'm with her she gets better service. That's because I'm used to dealing with people in business much more assertively. I'm not unwilling to let a manager know my thoughts and to explain what steps I'm willing to take to get satisfaction. This place pretty much sucks and they're not shy about it. But there's no shortage of women that will shop here so they have little to no motivation to do anything different.. Why my wife continues to go here is beyond me. She gets suckered in by their glut of internet, email and print advertised deals, specials, promotions, coupons, etc. And EVERY SINGLE TIME she shows up to take advantage of one of these promotions, they are conveniently OUT OF STOCK on whatever it is they are using to bait people in. Of course there's no rainchecks and they short-stock everything on promotion. It's "while supplies last". We asked the store manager about a $10 promotion item, she told us they received TEN ITEMS for the entire week. Ridiculous scam. The only reason I give them 1 star and not 0 is because the manager substituted another item for the promotion. How the cheat works: they advertise a product on 7 day promotion intending to run out of product right away. Then, for the remainder of the promotion period they get to benefit from their scam, luring women like my wife through the doors only to have them find out the store is conveniently OUT. But of course, there's plenty of other overpriced products they can choose from.... read more

I go to this store twice a week, and never has an employee ever asked how I was doing or if I needed help with anything. One time, I was looking at the Urban Decay products because I really needed help finding a foundation shade, and 4 employees were standing really close to me talking to each other. Not one of them offered to help me out. They were standing there for 20 minutes talking and I finally had to go up to them to ask for help. When I did, they all just stared at me. I'm not sure if i'm unapproachable or what the deal is... but I have never feel welcomed in this store. Most Ulta locations have excellent customer service, but this one needs to step it up.
