I always have a great experience here at this Ulta Beauty location. I never have had any experiences at their salon, so I can't speak to that. But the customer service at the desk and floor have always been helpful. They always greet me with a smile when I enter and I also appreciate how diverse the staff is. They can get busy especially around the holidays, but they always go through the customers pretty quickly and efficiently. I love how bright and open the space is. There's a lot of color in the displays and they have a huge variety of products. Pretty much anything you need for makeup and skin is located here. Their credit card program is great and there's lots of rewards you can get. I recently brought my toddlers and they loved looking around at everything with me. I also didn't feel judged by the staff for bringing small kids to the shop. It's hard to get out with small kids these days, but friendly staff definitely make it a bit easier. :) read more

do NOT get your hair done here, i made the mistake for you, got the total blonde done and i've been botched. i asked for a golden blonde and my hair is ash gray and purple, with splotchy yellow. doesn't help that the stylist Nicole complained the entire time saying "its too hard" and that anytime she sees a blonde on her books she doesn't want to do it. she's had her license for 17 years and gave me this! disgusting. was rude to me until she saw the texts on my phone talking about her. going to get my refund! read more

I had an appointment scheduled 2 months ago for 5/29 for hair color and cut and I received a text message on the 28th the day before confirming the appointment. I get to the salon and was told that the stylist quit and I don't have an appointment. Why could no one call and speak with me. I came to the salon and I was furious. Today I went to this location and was racially profiled by workers of this franchise; I was disappointed. After less than a minute, a worker was being a nuisance by saying, "Security, could you please open cameras zone three and four, thank you". I noticed and was displeased; so another three minutes went by and I decided not to purchase what I intended to buy and left. I like the expertise of the employees when it comes to recommendations. I have also had my hair cut several times at the salon. I enjoy the calmness of the salon. I'm only giving 5 stars for Katherine, with the southern accent. She was the only employee that took the time to help me out,.... at the register. I walked in today for my second visit and not ONE person said hello or asked if I needed help. * (I have been working customer service for over 12 years and with MAC as an assistant manager, so I know how important it is to help people who feel overwhelmed by all the beauty products) I was really disappointed that the manager passed by me at least 7-10 times, never looking up from what she was doing or bothered to say hello to me nor anyone else. She did not look happy and was bothered that I left my 8 products on the counter while I continued to look at the near by makeup collection. I would rate her 1 star alone! I understand it's the holidays and management gets busy too but, overall a managers job is to also ensure customer satisfaction. I spent over $500 at this store in the last 7 days and that was the service I got. All of the other employees were on standby as I was piling products in my bag, you would think they would approach me but they seemed to just watch instead. I ended going returning to the store because they forgot to use my $20 of ulta points I had recently earned. Again, Katherine was very pleasant and helped me in a positive manner throughout my very long transaction! If anything she should be the manager; she kindly helped her coworkers when they needed help. Not sure if I will return to this Ulta again. I don't know if I want to go in for my 3rd visit or order online now. Never realized that hairstylists charge like Taxi cabs. $360 for a cut and color. Was quoted for 3 hrs max process took longer so I was charged for the extra 1.5 hrs (!!) When I challenged the price I was told my hair was to blame. NEVER AGAIN. read more

It's taken a long time to reflect and decide to write a reveiw about the hair salon, but it needs to be said. I had a cut and color by the manager, who came highly recommended - like a goddess practically - by some of the staff. There was a discount promotion as part of a first time customer offer. The cut and color took over THREE hours. The color wasn't even close to the many photos provided and the consultation and discussion we had about wanting the color to be very blonde and variegated - a comparison to the Jennifer Anniston variegated color. The ultimate insult was the cost of the service with a very very modest tip was almost a whopping $250 before the discount. The discount wasn't applied. I had to go back and ask for it. The discount was then applied to the LOWEST price service and was nominal. Having been a Rocco's customer for years, I've never paid more than $160 including a generous tip for a cut and color - and they are recognized hair care experts. Not more than $150 at Cole's. But $100 MORE? Crazy. Moreover, the color was not even close to the blonde we had discussed and it was clearly obvious. The cut wasn't done right either. The stylist didn't admit it hadn't turned out right and that she would need to do something to remedy the situation. When I showed the photos we had mutually discussed - ending with primarily BLONDE! before starting - and the finished product, my friends thought the color was ridiculous and the cut poor. The other obscene thing that happened is that apparently they are so short staffed that several times during the cut and color, I was left sitting while the phone was answered to book other clients or stopped to answer questions from co-workers - extremely rude. I clearly was NOT the priority. It left such a bad taste in my mouth, I have never been back. Having just recently received excellent service elsewhere, I decided to write this review. I would never recommend this salon to anyone. Much better service, much better prices, much better quality results from other quality salons - Rocco's in particular. read more

I have gotten my hair cut and colored at the salon for quite a while, and this past week Maya did a balayage for me and absolutely killed it! She spent so much time making it perfect and I am so grateful! Went in for my appointment and left not thrilled with the results the next day, and without hesitation they accommodated me and made me feel absolutely fabulous about my hair! I will never again enter an Ulta store based on my experience with the morons who run this one. I went into the Apple Valley, MN, store to buy eyeliner (after finding the stuff I like there a few years ago -- and I've been in several times to replenish it), and when I was unable to find it, a tall, snooty woman acted like I was punishing her by asking her where it was. "All our Stila items are here," she said, her nose pointed toward the ceiling. "Yes, I see it. But I couldn't find this one," I told her, showing her the box from the old one. "Well, I've never seen that here before," she said, as though I'd brought in a bag of cat vomit and shown it to her. After pointing out that I'd bought it there for years, I left. I contacted the company online and told them about my experience. I got a canned response that they were letting the store manager know about it, and he or she would be calling. Are you surprised to learn that I didn't hear a peep? Today, I contacted the company again, and I got a call this afternoon from the manager of the Apple Valley store (who said she's been on the job for only two weeks). She told me repeatedly that the manager *had* called and left me a message (this is 100 percent incorrect). She did everything she could to make it sound as though I was at fault, possibly for even deigning to enter the store. Not. One. More. Penny. read more

The store from the outside is huge, but once inside there's not much on offer. A third of the store is dedicated to the salon, a quarter of the remaining store floor is given to the Benefit Brow Bar. This leaves less than two thirds of the floor to shop for products covering makeup, fragrance, bath & body, as well as tools. The high end brands of makeup are very limited in comparison to Sephora. Bare Minerals is the line emphasized at this store, as evidenced by the multiple tables and shelves stocked full of their kits and powders when you enter. I guess that works for the suburban mom crowd, but not so much for people who like Makeup Forever or Nars type products. The rest of the brands are only given half a display case and not all of their products are there. For example, Too Faced and Stila shared one display case. However I found some Too Faced shadow kits on an end cap three rows down that weren' t at the regular display shelves and none of the Stila kits were offered for sale. The same situation applies to Ulta and drugstore brands. I couldn't find the Ulta kits that are always in the paper ads and online. Not all of the L'Oreal Infallible or HIP shadow colors were there that you can find at Target or any other place that sells the cheap brands. I was finally tired of circling around the store trying to see if products were hidden somewhere else and just left without buying anything. Luckily this isn't the first Ulta I've been to so I won't boycott the chain altogether, but it's a rather pathetic branch that isn't worth going to unless all you use is Bare Minerals and Benefit cosmetics. Unfortunately for me I'll have to travel to a different suburb, Roseville, in order to shop at an Ulta that has anything worth buying. read more

Went in right at 10am to take advantage of a daily deal special for 50% off a specific hair product I love. I was the first customer in the door and they had ONE bottle left. The lady acted annoyed that I dared to ask if they had more (limit 4 per customer). She handed me the one they had and gave a snarky, "sorry." I managed to make it to the Richfield location 15 minutes later where I was able to get the limit of 4 with much more pleasant staff. The AV location is often out of product, but when there's a sale? Stock up a bit more. Highly disappointed in the staff attitude and will be shopping at Richfield instead. read more

Went to claim a 21days of beauty offer 3 hours after they opened. They were already sold out and the replacement product was already displayed. What did they have like a dozen? They said try online which I did and they were out of it there too.I contacted customer service where they pretty much said too bad so sad..poor service skills. I was checking out today and there was a lady gabbing with one of the cashiers forever. I asked the other cashier if she was open or what was going on as we were waiting a long time. She told me and that they were having a conversation and she would help us when they were done talking. I could hear their conversation and it was of a personal nature. I thought that was very rude and put my stuff down and left as did the customer behind me. We were both on our lunch breaks and don't have time to wait while other customers are having a therapy session with the cashier. read more

Wow!!! These people that work here are HATEFUL! A male friend of mine called asking about some make up products for a costume he was working on, knowing they probably wouldn't have what he was looking for, but he thought they might have something that he could substitute. The woman was very rude on the phone, and eventually called him an IDIOT under her breath and HUNG UP on him!!! When I called back to complain, the manager was very apologetic, but I STILL didn't get any names, or much of an apology at all. Very bad business practice and even worse customer service, I wouldn't give these people a CENT of my money!!! read more

I went to the salon in apple valley. Mandy was my stylist and I'm not happy at all. She said I needed a treatment before she could dye my hair so the color would take. I told her I wanted to get as close as I could to my natural color. So the first treatment was suppose to be in my hair for 20 minutes...35 minutes later I had to actually send another employee to look for her. Then when she put the dye in she was going so fast she actually splashed my arm and pants with dye. The third time the dye splashed the magazine I was reading I made it a point for her to see me wiping the dye off the magazine. No apology for her sloppiness. Then she had another appointment so naturally she rushed my hair cut. I wish she would've been speedier taking the dye out. 30 minutes she said the dye needed to be left in so tell me why 20 minutes for the toner and 30 minutes for the actual dye took from 3:15 to 6:00 you do the math. My hair is so dark it has red tints!!!! I'm a medium brunette. My advice steer clear of the salon at apple valley. The other parts of the store are great, Mandy n the salon not so much. Excellent staff, seriously. The product selection doesn't really compare to Sephora or even a department store but the staff at this location is downright phenomenal. I have to recommend Emily at the Benefit Brow Bar. This girl needs to be working at a professional salon. My story begins with a simple yet undeniable fuzzy lip. I went in to Ulta after having tried to wax my own lip with a DIY kit from CVS, all I had to show was a raw patch of skin and a bruised ego. Determined to spend as little as possible, I tried the Benefit Brow Bar. Fatefully, Emily was the only one working the bar at the time I simply asked for one of their $12 lip waxes. Emily was kind and attentive. I am very appreciative of those who seem genuinely interested in their clients. Taking the time to ask questions isn't difficult, but can be hard to find. After a perfect lip wax (quick and nearly painless too) I immediately scheduled another appointment. Four weeks later we went through the same routine and she even remembered some of the things I told her in our last 10 minute session. She then began asking about my eyebrows- how often I pluck and wax, etc. Without hesitation, I agreed to let her wax my brows. I try to avoid making quick decisions, especially in a salon chair, but I really trusted Emily! I should mention that I had only had my brows waxed once before then at Coles Salon in Apple Valley (horror story) and promised myself I would only let a highly recommended professional do it again. Emily then collaborated with me to basically design my ideal brow shape. After, I was amazed to see my perfect brow come to life. It really is amazing how your eyebrows can pull your face together. I now see Emily every 3-4 weeks and will continue! read more
