I had been thinking of a deck rebuild for a couple of years. Our cedar deck was showing its age, and I was concerned about structural integrity so I started talking to contractors in late November as I wanted to get it done in time for spring. My first question was about ownership-I wanted to AVOID the all too common Venture-backed firm, preferring to use someone local. I talked to 3 companies that came up in my google search and frankly didn't expect the winner to be these guys (don't like the dumb name). one dropped out after a site visit and another ghosted me never providing a follow up. To be fair this was going on in late December. In contrast, Chad from Ugly Deck came out the next day to discuss the project and provided a very detailed quote for the work. Before we finalized things we visited their show room in shakopee to look at styles, colors and features. Chad even called me the next day after major knee surgery to follow-up! Now that's commitment. We were planning on an April 1 start but because of the stretch of nice weather, they called asking to start in mid February. I learned that they have certain core (highly experienced) staff employed year round so I'd be getting their two best, Jason and Pat plus 2 more guys on the project. The demolition and reconstruction took around 8 days in total and the crew showed up promptly and began work every day at 7:30. I was really impressed with their skill, workmanship and attention to detail. All 4 guys kept things moving despite rain, sleet, snow and cold. I just can say enough about their abilities and work ethic. They also kept the work site picked up and gates closed to keep the dog in. While the cost for the all new composite deck with snazzy aluminum railings wasn't cheap, I'm really glad we opted to go with them. I'd definitely recommend them looking to have a deck built or redone. Can't wait for deck season. read more

Ugly Deck - Decks & Railing Near Me - Burnsville, Minnesota

We had a beautiful new deck built with maintenance free decking by UglyDeck.com. However, the process was less then smooth. From dented siding, punctuated soffit, the use of the previous 40 year old rotting support beams, and many other things. After all of that we finally had a completed deck 4 months later. (Still never addressing the unfinished ends of our drink rail.... but I was to exhausted to push any harder and honestly just done with this company). By the end of the first day, I was glad that I had taken "before" pictures. Without the pictures, I'm not sure we would have been able to argue our case and ask for those "mishaps" to be repaired. The crew was very messy never cleaning up after themselves. I was told to leave it and they'd have someone come out to cleanup, do a overall inspection and run through things with us. That NEVER happened. I ended up cleaning up the mess myself (food wrappers, cigarette butts, nails, screws, plastic pieces and many other items). I also, had to figure out how to program the lighting since no one showed us how or left us the manual. I worked with Matt, the production coordinator for our project. Matt was good at helping us communicate all the issues we were having and helping us to get some answers. We waited many months for our deck install after being quoted less time. The sales person in the showroom had little personality and didn't "sell" the deck to us. We were provided very little information for the large amount of money we planned to spend. We paid the deposit and waited to hear back for when they would come. Months went by and finally we got a call that they would be coming in Friday at 7am. 7am came and a dumpster arrived in front of our garage. We had no warning that the dumpster was coming - thank goodness I was already at work! (Otherwise I would've been stuck in the garage)! The install crew didn't show up and my husband called them at 1pm. We were told they were behind on a project and that project was a $40,000.00 job. ... So we should just be patient. Of course we would be patient, we already waited months! ... but I felt it wasn't very professional to let us know our job wasn't as worthy. It's one thing to say they were behind but another to say why. Not professional. The install group came, they advised us they were contracted out to do the job and they didn't directly work for Ugly Deck. Good to know. The install crew did a good job and they were professional. When the deck was finished we were surprised by the finished look. The sales person never told us about "under-decking." This is not our area of expertise so we didn't know to ask. Now we have a beautiful deck on top and the old wood deck that doesn't match underneath. The whole experience was very average and I wouldn't use this company again. Nothing terrible happened but nothing was a "WOW" for the price paid. read more

We have had an issue with our deck about 6 months after completion. There has been zero response for Ugly Deck to rectify the situation. They will not even come out and take a look at the problem. Basically they got their money and ran. read more

Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this company. While it sells a quality product, it's customer service is the worst I have ever seen. The stairs constructed on my deck by Ugly Deck became twisted and are obviously not level. Attempts to get Ugly Deck to fix the problem were met with nothing but aggravation and excuses. Despite many attempts over the last several months to get Ugly Deck to fix this problem, they have repeatedly stalled and often ignored emails, often having to be prompted by a second contact a week or more later. Twice they did send someone out to look at the stairs, and twice their expert told me that the stairs were improperly installed and need to be taken down and redone. He did an attempted fix in November, which as photos show left one of the support beams half on and half off of the foundation block and the surface still twisted. I don't blame the expert for it. He said he did as he was instructed by the company to do, which was minimal and was a "fix" that he said he did not believe would be successful. It wasn't. I told him it was not acceptable. He said he would report that back to them that the stairs needed to be taken down and redone properly. I also informed that it was unacceptable in a follow up email. Nonetheless, after repeated emails to them, in mid-December, they said they might want to have yet a third inspection and refused to commit to doing the job that their own expert said needed to be done. After ignoring me for another week, they then told me on December 22, 2020, at 4:00 p.m. that they were closing down for the long holidays and jolly well wished me a "Happy Holidays". Its now Tuesday, January 5, 2021, in the afternoon and I've yet to hear from them. On Yelp, I have read ten negative reviews of this company, Many describing poor customer service and follow up.  They have earned an eleventh.  There is one in which the reviewer wrote, "All in all, it was an extremely exhausting experience having to 'babysit' the project that left me second guessing my decision to hire UglyDeck.com."  (emphasis added). Another wrote that he felt like Ugly Deck just "took the money and ran." I understand exactly how these customers felt. There are many other social media outlets available for publication of these issues so that potential customers have at least our perspective about the facts of dealing with this company. It is evident to my wife and I that having paid them tens of thousands of dollars, we are not remotely a priority of Ugly Deck. We have been more than patient.  We provided multiple opportunities to fix this problem.  In over forty years of working with home contractors, I have never had such poor service. I remain hopeful that Ugly Deck will yet do the right thing and fix this problem, but I won't hold my breath. And we also won't wait much longer before pursuing legal remedies. read more

My experience with Uglydeck.com was amazing. The sales team there is very knowledgeable about every product that they service and answered all the questioned that my wife and I had. The turnaround time from signing our sale to the actual start date was faster then they estimated! They were calling us two weeks ahead of the start date and letting us know where we stood on the schedule and made extra calls with updates if there was rain days or if they were coming earlier. The crew we had was amazing. Pat, the lead and his helpers were at our house right away in the morning and stayed later then we anticipated. Any questions we had about the process, Pat and his crew gave us an in depth description and made it very easy to understand. We can't wait to enjoy this upcoming summer! read more

I rate my experience with Ugly Deck as a C+. The Sales experience was great Chad even came out in the rain to take measurements and give a rough estimate. I thought the price was pretty comparable to the quotes I was getting from other contractors. The construction of the deck was great and we love the appearance. It was a vast improvement over the existing deck. Our biggest issue was with the customer service experience and attention to detail with local code. Regarding customer service, it was virtually non-existent. There was zero interaction between me and the company throughout the build. No calls asking what we thought as it was going up or if we had concerns during the process. As well as no follow up after the build to see if we were satisfied. Upon completion and awaiting final inspection, we received NO notice letting us know when the inspection would be. I HAD TO CALL THEM and find out when they were coming out. Upon the final inspection, the deck failed for two reasons. 1) They forgot to include the pergola in the submitted plans, and 2) they used the wrong nails when hanging the joists. Again I found myself making phone calls to them to figure out their plan to fix the issue and the time table. The customer service rep was unresponsive via email; despite telling them that I lock the gate to the yard and I needed to know when they were coming out. After they came out to replace the nails, they never ran the magnet over the area and left the removed nails in our landscaping rock which my wife and I picked up to prevent our dogs from stepping on them. Even after the experience with the failed inspection, they still didn't contact us. I received the final bill 2 weeks later from our sales rep and expressed my experience. My wife and I had a maintenance free deck installed by UglyDeck in April of 2018. The entire experience from beginning to end was fantastic. I am by no means a handy person with construction but at no point during the process did I feel that I was ever being talked down to. The team was more than willing to offer me advice and thoughts during the planning things on the different options that were available and what they felt did and didn't work for my house. I was told when I paid a down payment that the crew would most likely be ready in mid-April. That was exactly when they started. The construction crew were extremely friendly and at one point dug out 2ft of snow to continue work after a storm. They made sure one day to tell me they tripped a breaker while working just in case I had a freezer or something inside that needed power. The construction went very quickly and the clean up afterwards was excellent. The project manager was also very responsive to both email and phone calls. I always received a prompt answer to any question I had. With an expenditure as large as a deck it was just such a relief to have such a wonderful company to work with. I would highly recommend them to anyone looking for a decking company. read more
