UFCU can suck a big nut. This was my main bank during my undergrad years but because I no longer reside in TX, this bank has been pretty useless to me. I'll gladly take the blame for keeping an account open for so long (4+ years) after moving out of TX but at the end of the day, it should NOT take 2+ weeks to close an account. Really?! I wrote them a written request as I was told that that was the protocol to close any account. Okay, fine. I sent it in on a Thursday and they called to let me know they received it the following day. Great - thanks. I called on Monday to make sure everything was closed but no, they haven't closed it yet. Umm...okay. This went on for 2 weeks straight. I called EVERY.SINGLE.DAMN.EFFING.DAY and everyday it was some bullsh!t excuse. After today's phone call, they said it was closed but I've heard that 14 times already. Expect another phone call from an angry ex-customer tomorrow, UFCU. Fcuking morons. read more

The drive-thru is still a godawful piece of shit. 45 minutes I sat waiting to deposit two checks with four cars ahead of me. People were getting so full of rage, leaning on their horns and hollering out their windows at the cars at the head of the line. I'm not sure I'd use them for mortgages. Here's why. First of all, they charge $350 for a lock, whereas many other "lenders" (I put the term in quotation marks because just about everyone is a broker these days, lending someone else's money) do not. Second, they charge a 1% origination fee on loans -- whereas not necessarily everyone does. Third, they don't seem to handle very many mortgages (they told my wife 50-60 per year), which means that they don't have very many mortgage servicers at their disposal in case you need to break your lock because interest rates dropped considerably before closing (as they did this December '08). Fourth, a lock is a lock with them: some lender/brokers will renegotiate a rate if rates decrease significantly before closing. I wanted to modify my review somewhat. I just learned that the bank will be undergoing a major "system upgrade" from 7 PM, Friday, May 8, through Monday, May 11, 2009, which means that there will be NO bank operations, including ATM withdrawals, for over 3 days. I've never heard of a bank subjecting its customers to such an inconvenience. For this alone I'm removing a star from my rating. read more

You should most definitely put your money in a credit union in lieu of a major bank. The cooperative principles and transparent model are worthy, and, unless you've been on another planet the past ten years, you know how toxic the big 'uns have been to our economy. However, think twice before you use UFCU. The teller transactions (even in the lobby!) are conducted via closed-circuit screens and tube systems. The sign-up for individual help is often done by computer interface. When you finally do get actual humans in face-to-face interactions, it is done at a desk in an open space (not even cubicles!)-- no consideration of privacy or confidentiality there! The couple of times I've needed to clarify "issues", it has meant a trip down to the Guadalupe branch to meet with a service representative. To be fair, once you are able to speak with someone in person, the result is likely to be a fair and logical resolution. Short version: transactions here are likely to be cold, dehumanizing, and screen-driven. Don't be fooled by the folksy media campaigns: these guys are more wing-tip than two-step. read more

Banks are banks. I wouldn't review one unless I thought it had something special to offer. And I think UFCU does. Utilized by most UT faculty and staff, UFCU carries all the benefits of a credit union with the added plus of having that local, small-town feel. This location (one of six...I think) is unique due to the video teller machines. Instead of having actual real live people to hand your deposit slips to, you are faced with a line of partitioned television screens. Drive-thru-like pods shoot your checks and deposit slips far away to an unknown location (okay, probably just behind the wall). Although I wonder why they structure themselves in this way (are they trying to distance themselves from their customers?!), I enjoy this take on service. Definitely cool. Definitely hard to get used to! The UFCU also offers numerous free seminars to members, including how to finance a car, what's the best mortgage for your budget, and how to pick the best retirement plan. This is a great service to those of us who are novices to money management. This location is a bit off the beaten path and is not as spacious as the new one on the drag. On the other hand, they have wonderful customer service, coffee, and there is rarely a wait. Oh yeah, and they have a coin exchange machine for members. Take your extra pennies, nickles and quarters here. UFCU soon. read more

I did not enjoy my experience with this branch. After finally getting to the counter at the front and handing over some cash I was depositing the woman behind the counter rather rudely said I needed to "face" the bills for her and that it's policy. I then asked her to show me said policy in any of their literature and she could not find a single instance. Tidy banking is their job, not mine. Second thing is that I sometimes don't bother counting my cash before I come in... instead just deferring to them to do the count for me.. as I trust my bank... and the fact that they have to count it in front of my anyways regardless of if I count it or not. They gave me big attitude because of this. I will never be back to this branch. The other branches are way better. This might be in part them them having to deal with students all day but this is just not how you treat a member. read more

To me UFCU is more than a bank. I walk in a bank and I think how are they gonna rip me off. I walk in the credit union and I think dang they have decent services for decent prices and they are not dedicated to the screw up or the rip off. Currently I have a credit card with them (11.9%), a used car loan (6.6%) and a savings acct(variable). They are convenient and helpful. I first got interested in them because I heard their name all the time on ads. I checked with a couple friends that used them and after positive feedback I found a way in by joining the wheatsville coop. It has been a very positive experience and I recommend them to all, especially if you are tired of the idiocracy of the commercial banks. read more

ATM is great with easy cash deposit. As a waitress part time this is great, no fuss with envelopes and crap. Oh yeah and don't bother going thru the drive, takes forever! I have been with UFCU for over 4 years and I have no complaints. Even one time my money got stuck in the ATM, and I started to freak out inside. But, no worries. I've had 3 auto loans through them over the years and used to use them as a bank as well. Their rates are the best i've seen - on the first loan I had through them I got a 5.4% APR - I called a year later to inquire about the loan and the person on the other end of the phone let me know I could drop it to 4.8% for no cost. Of course I did it. After that experience when I went to buy a new car for my wife and I this year I checked them out again - 4.4% and 4.5% this time (the 4.4% is for a hybrid - they give an additional discount for that!). read more

Bank of the future? Not sure. This place has the weirdest bank teller service ever. On my first visit I walked in and looked for tellers... and there weren't any. You have to go over to some little kiosks and you call up a teller on a video screen - then do your transaction via pnumatic tube. What I don't understand here is why anyone would go inside for a transaction. It's the exact same thing as you get in the drive thru lanes (which feature the same video screens to talk to the teller). Bonus stars from me because they are a Shared Branch for my Credit Union in Houston and that the Drive Thru is open until 7pm. read more

I hate the fact I have to leave a star to submit the review but I still haven't received my money from my dispute on September 13th, 2018 I tried transferring $814.00 from my UFCU checking account to my JP Morgan Chase Checking account via Cash App but the money was never deposited into the Chase account on September 13th I went to go transfer the money from UFCU to Chase UFCU contacting me via the automated phone system for verification at 2:00 PM CST and 2:06 PM CST I confirmed that it wasn't a fraudulent transfer I then go to check the JP Morgan Chase account the money isn't there so I immediately contacted Cash App first to get the funds back but that was unsuccessful so I contacted UFCU to inform them the money was taken from my checking account but never was deposited in the checking account at Chase I contacted them on September 14th, 2018 at 2:53 PM CST the conversation was 8 minutes also spoke with them at 3:01 PM CST the conversation was 15 minutes regarding the dispute I was told it would be 10 business days before I'd receive my money because they would be investigating the dispute September 19th, 2018 I received a provisional credit instead of my money back on October 16th they decided to reverse my dispute without any notice taking my pay check leaving me with no money I went to the location on Guadalupe gave them a copy of the bank statement from Chase showing them the money was never deposited in the account as well as contact information for Chase I also went to the branch on 51st spoke with the young lady in the front greeting/assisting people as they walk in I explained to her everything that occurred apparently my situation was funny to her because she started laughing in my face I didn't see the humor in me having no money so I asked to speak with a manager the manger I spoke with was very dismissive wasn't listening to anything I was telling her I was repeating myself multiple times and she was still reciting the incorrect information back to me after I explained a few times so I called her out on it as well as expressed how they took my hard earned money I told her I wanted my damn money and I wouldn't bank here again she proceeded to say that's fine and I could get the fuck out yes that's what she said (Will include a picture of her) Jason Markus emailed me on October 18th, 2018 regarding the dispute I sent him additional information he'd need to continue looking into the matter the last email I received from him was October 26th, 2018 I called multiple times asked to speak with multiple supervisors they all said I'd receive a call back I was never contacted back I called them for months they'd leave me on long holds transfer me to visa then visa would transfer me back to UFCU they even tried insinuating that I stole my own money after I gave them all the evidence they needed to investigate the matter I can't speak for others that may be scamming or acting in fraudulent activity but that wasn't the case with my situation I had nothing no way to pay my bills I expressed that to them multiple times and they did not care they tried justifying taking my money then told me it's exceeded the time frame and I could no longer do anything about the dispute and wouldn't be getting my money back yet they never contacted me back like they said never responded back to emails we also had a issue a few months prior with random charges in New York contacted them once we notice it they said it would be about 10 business days never heard anything back contacted them no response never received that money back either read more

Yes this place does give good interest rates on loans. Yes the people are nice. Yes they can print you a card on the spot when you lose one ... But the coolness ends there. UFCU has very little organization and they are definitely at the back of the line when it comes to technological necessities. I have ended up with money deposited in wrong accounts and people able to take money out of my own account when they shouldn't have been able to... Not to mention the thing that really bugs me is the fact that you cannot get any service from UFCU on your phone and their banking app and their website sucks too. Right now my credit score keeps dropping because I cannot pay my credit card because they're online baking system and their phone baking system will only allow you to use UFCU accounts to pay for these.well, due to them messing up my checking account so often I have moved my finances to another corporate bank but have my credit card and loans through UFCU... now I am struggling to pay them seeing as I have to physically go in to set up auto draft for another bank or call them only during business hours. It's 7:30pm and I noticed fraudulent charges on my card. Turns out I have to wait till they are open tomorrow to discuss them... What is the point of having a someone to call if they can't help me at all! As much as I'm not a fan of corporate banks... As soon as I can get my loans and credit card paid off I will no longer be banking with UFC. read more

Love my credit union! I have been a member for almost five years now and they have always treated me with respect. I trust them with my money and I recently financed an auto loan with them and it was a very smooth transaction. As far as banks and various cash keepers go I usually hate and despise them. Ive been banking with UFCU for 5years and honestly they impress me every time! When I had no credit and tried to get a loan they were they only bank that would give me a fair interest rate at 4% not the 16% compass ,my loooong time bank, was offering. Also I paid a credit card thru a system outside UFCU and overdrafted my account when it finally took the funds out days later. Bo ,at the guad location, not only informed me of a better way to pay, he reversed the charge and helped me get my savings into a better higher paying account. No bank has ever reversed those NFS charges let alone also suggested ways to improve my accounts. Helping me make more money, not them. Way to go Bo and UFCU!!! read more

This a very very slow bank. They don't have tellers in-person to help you; the "tellers" they do have, you have to communicate over a video screen with. Often they can't help you and have to refer you to "the front desk", which is also not a person but another computer that just sins you up for a spot for the very few people that actually work here to eventually see you. It's an awful model for a bank. read more

Ufcu is a great bank. I bought my first car through them and it went well. They don't have a ton of ATMs but come on its 2015 who uses cash. Aside from that my only other complaint is that they don't exchange foreign currency. Their tellers are friendly, the lobby is clean but I'm not sure if they have lollipops. They probably do. I've been with this Credit Union since the late 90s, but over the last few years they've really been going downhill, pulling the shady nickle and diming stuff that banks in general do. To boot, the new online interface is garbage and not mobile friendly at all(while it was fine for years and years, even back when I had a flip phone). Their online services and apps seem to get worse with every revision. I try to keep as little money as possible in my accounts nowadays, as there's little reason to, and I no longer want them making any money off of my money. I have recently commited to look for other financial options, and casually looking at yelp for decent possibilities, I'm not shocked to see their mediocre rating. It's sad to have seen this place really degrade in quality over the last five to ten years. I used to recommend this place, but not anymore. Updated: The issue was resolved but I had to go into the bank and talk to an actual person. I really feel like they treat me like its small town bank, and I know that because I have banked in my small town before. Now that I am in Austin, I was looking for something that gave me the same feel. This was awesome. I honestly dont use them for my personal account but I do use them for my business account. I've been with UFCU for almost 20 years. I have recently used their car loan and mortgage loan services. BOTH HORRIBLE. I was referred to a horrible realtor, I've talked to 4 people in the car loan department, twice in person and they have taken over 2 weeks to move my car loan over from Wells Fargo (hate banks). I am SO disappointed in UFCU. I work with 100s of UT students and I am no longer going to recommend UFCU or at least recommend with the caveat that do not use them for lending. They seem to not care at all or are extremely lazy or they're overworked. Do not ever get a bank account at ufcu ever. This is the worst bank ever. They will lock your card for paying bills as fraud protection then not call beforehand like they're suppose too. Also there is no 24/7 customer service so when they lock your card you get to wait until the next day to unlock it. Go to frost or bank of America or anywhere else trust me. I'm shutting down my account and taking all the money out cause they are the worst bank I've ever dealt with. They make sure I understand what is going on with my account and do everything they can to help me out. So, for a really long time, I had been pretty adamantly against banks. This was mainly due to BoA, and my horrid experiences with their overdraft practices and one occasion where they completely lost one of my paychecks. Still haven't seen that one, 10 years later. Well, after hearing about how much better credit unions were, especially UFCU, I figured why not. Couldn't possibly be worse than BoA, right? Oh, how wrong I was. First of all, they hardly have any locations up north. Now, I know that this is changing, as I've seen one finally popping up in my neck of the woods (too little, too late, UFCU). But this has been a pretty horrid problem for quite some time, as I work through most bank hours, so a trip to the bank required me requesting time off of work. Also, you never really seem to get any personal interaction with anybody. It's all through some stupid TV monitors, even if you walk in. The only exception is when you open the account. Then, we come to contact. I'm a pretty big advocate of only using my phone when I absolutely must. I really hate seeing my phone go off for something I don't need a phone call for. Same goes for my email. I prefer to limit the number of emails I get, as it gets pretty hard to manage sometimes. Well, if you overdraft, expect not only a phone call, an email, but a letter mailed to your house. All three. What a waste of resources. I understand the need to notify, but this is overkill, inconvenient and quite frankly, annoying as hell. Now, lets get to the real killer. This is long winded so you can see the exact circumstances. The thing that caused me to drop UFCU once and for all. Overdraft orders. I had seen, on a few occasions, where UFCU had stacked a couple of bigger charges that happened the day before, first. Then noticed that small charges (usually under 5 dollars) that I had done a few days to 10 days prior, coming afterwards, increasing my 40 dollar overcharges to my account. And yeah, I'll let this slide a few times. I know that sometimes businesses don't always get their receipts to the bank in a reasonable amount of time. One time, a charge from a month prior hit when I was down to my last few dollars, causing an overcharge. This was absolutely unacceptable, but not a deal breaker. I still had patience. Then came a really rough time in my life. I was injured and couldn't work, having to live off of short term disability checks that were half of my normal pay, with a brand new car payment. I knew I would overdraft, and I accepted this. After returning to work, I had to overdraft one last time. I waited approximately 4 days after I had last used my card, then overdrafted my car payment, knowing it would only be about 250-300 under MAX. Come to my surprise, they hit my car payment first, then the big charges, then the small ones. I had more overdrafts than my paycheck, and they wouldn't budge on it. BoA was pretty bad about overdraft charges, but never this bad. Unless you have more money than you can spend, and have no risk of overdrafting, I highly recommend that you avoid this place. Their account managers are completely and utterly rude, have no respect, and care only about taking your money. These people are dishonest and thieves. Avoid like the plague. read more

INTERNET SAVVY ACCOUNT HOLDERS BEWARE. This CU has got it all backwards. They are in the dark ages, as far as Online Banking and BillPay goes, so do not bother getting a checking account here if you are used to usable online features. OK for college students who don't know what they are missing, but not for the over 25 crowd who expect a functional, easy-to-use bill pay and online banking experience. For instance: The login field is account number, instead of login name, for starters. Who remembers a series of numbers anymore?? With all I have to remember? Which means I have to write it down and keep it handy if I don't have a password keeper on my phone, totally NOT SAFE. Second, their Online Banking is horrendous. It's so ugly, not user-friendly at all, very poorly thought-out. I did not even BEGIN to use the Bill Pay feature once I saw how it worked. There is a reason they do not have a "demo" of online banking on their site that I can easily find. I know the banking industry, and what you are seeing is the OLDEST, CHEAPEST version of Bill Pay, because they do not care about their members once they leave college. So, I opened an account there, expecting great service, and ended up pulling all my money out within a few weeks. Now I have an unused account on my credit report. Ugh. This CU needs to GET WITH THE FREAKING PROGRAM. If they aren't using my money, as a member, to provide me with excellent products and service, then they are wasting my hard-earned money. read more

Great bank, worst branch! I moved to Austin a year ago, and I opened my bank account at UFCU on 2244 Guadalupe St., the one right by the campus. It was always busy there and parking in that area is awful, but the staff was always super nice, and still patient and friendly enough even though it was extremely crowded in there (e.g., right before the semester starts). Because I live closer to the branch on 4611 Guadalupe and because their parking is a way better, I went over there four times within the last couple of weeks. Every single time, I was treated so badly and was shocked about their bad service. (1) I wanted to deposit some cash on my account and the receptionist referred me to their tube-system. I went over there and did not understand how it worked. So, I went back to her, asked for help, and she explained it really shortly. I went back to the cabin with the tubes, and still couldn't figure it out (that was the first time that I've seen one of those). So, I again asked her for help. She looked at me as I was retarded and then finally got her ass over and showed it to me (it was very empty in the branch, so she wasn't even busy). (2) I just wanted to get some checks printed out. Not a big deal. The person at the reception took forever to get things in order with the customer in front of me. Both of us were waiting forever... At the end, it was the receptionist herself who had to walk over to the printer and get checks for me. It took her 20 (!!!) minutes (at 3 pm in the afternoon, not even the busiest time). She of course did not even care to apology. (3) I only wanted to use their ATM but both of the were out of order (around a week ago). (4) Today, I wanted to use their ATM again, and two people were there trying to fix/refill/empty it. I waited a bit, and none of them even tried to say a word like: "That will take a bit." to me. So I went inside and the receptionist ignored me for 10 minutes, then he looked at me without saying a word, so I just asked if they had an ATM inside as well and he said no, but I could use their tube-system (I am traumatized about...) in order to get some cash. I told him, I needed money from my international bank account and that could be difficult. His response: "Sorry, I cannot help you with that, I am quite busy right now." BUSY? It was me and one other person at 3 pm in the afternoon! NEVER AGAIN! UFCU is great, especially the branch on campus. But this one, I really do not know what kind of criteria applicants have to fulfill in order to get a job as a receptionist at that branch. I guess "being an asshole" is #1. read more

I'm a fan of credit unions. I have accounts at other CUs and love the fact that I don't get the full-pressure sales tactic every time I go in for a simple transaction, like I do at other traditional banks. I went to this location on a Friday afternoon with some complex tasks I needed accomplished and got everything done. The staff were all polite and helpful. I went to a different branch the next day to complete some additional forms and once again was met with helpful, friendly staff, a welcomed change over my past experiences at traditional banks. This CU has better savings and high interest checking rates than traditional banks; I like it when my money helps me make more money. Doesn't get much better than that! read more

I have recently moved to Austin from the Midwest so maybe I am just not "with it" but having the tellers behind a wall communicating only through a tv screen is strange and very dystopian. I felt kinda silly at first for wanting to review a bank, but seriously, I think this place is just wonderful. My husband was a member here long before we met, so when we got married, there was a discussion on who got to keep their bank. After experiencing the wonderful customer service and courtesies at UFCU, I was running to Chase to close my account. While we lived in Austin, going to the bank was not even a chore for us. This particular location is in a great spot, plenty of parking, everyone here is incredibly nice, helpful, and patient, and we got in and out super fast. We've never had problems with them freezing our accounts when we travel or setting weird transaction limits on us, which used to be an issue with my Chase account. We've gotten 2 or 3 different loans from UFCU, and everything went very quickly and effortlessly, but I think the thing that sets this bank apart for us, is the fact that we still bank smoothly from Houston! The online banking system is great and very easy to use, they have 24 hour customer service over the phone, and we were even able to get a loan via email with no problem. They're so great to us, we recommend UFCU to everyone, regardless of where they live! We've been with UFCU now for about 4 years, and no matter where life takes us, that will be our bank! read more

UFCU has a lot of great services. But, the most helpful service I've received was a credit review. Cliff was really helpful in explaining what everything on my report meant and how to improve my score. I am also incredibly thankful for their help in refinancing my property through Wells Fargo. That's right, even though UFCU couldn't actually do the refi because my property is in another state they pointed me to the new streamlined refi program at Wells Fargo. Now I can save $100 a month with no additional costs or fees for the refi. That's great customer service! read more

Not sure why this place has bad review. The inside was really nice, and the staff was super professional. Everyone had a smile on their face. I am a new member so that might be why the teller was extra friendly, but she took about 10 minutes to actually explain a bunch of stuff for me. I went in to cash in a ton of coins and she waived the fee for me which amounted to almost $9 in fee savings! I was super happy about that because I was trying to figure out how to game it so I wouldnt have to pay a fee but then didnt bother, and it actually worked out anyways. But she was super nice and I was even more impressed with UFCU considering I've been with the same credit union from back home for like 7 or 8 years. read more
