Ordered the Hana sushi roll. It comes with shrimp tempura, cucumber, spicy crunch tuna & tobiko. I modified the roll with no tobiko. It tasted good and the presentation was pretty. Also ordered some garlic edamame which was delicious and seasoned perfectly. I enjoyed the dine in experience. Pop music playing in the background and the decor is modern with cute artwork on the walls. Service was fast and friendly, clean restaurant, and plenty of parking outside. I've been here with my mother a few times. The sushi is a good value; it's my favorite place to get a Philly roll. The environment feels comfy and safe, with plenty of art to gaze at. The service is perfect; we usually get the same server, and I don't feel like she is nervously hovering or ignoring us (good balance). We ordered the Chicken Gyoza(x2) as an app. I ordered the chicken tepanyaki which was one of the best Asian dishes I've ever had. Perfect balance of spicey, sweet, salty and savory. My wife ordered the Spicy Pork Ramen w/ Pork and the broth was amazing. It was balanced perfectly. We also ordered a Philadelphia Roll(Smoked Salmon), a spicy tuna roll and a Tornado roll. The tempura fried Torando roll hit all of our taste buds. Everything was delicious, we'll definitely be back again for a date night. The paintings on the wall and the decor give it a nice touch and really brings in the whole Japanese feel. The service was great; she was very attentive considering she was the only one serving. The quality is consistently amazing, the portions are large, and the prices are extremely reasonable. I had high hopes for Udon Kaisha, but I was left sorely unimpressed. The good: you can place your order online. The Udon meal was pretty good. My husband had zero complaints about it. For a Saturday afternoon pickup, they weren't busy at all. The bad: I ordered the tofu teriyaki dinner, but to my dismay, they left out the key ingredient: the teriyaki! I tried picking at the veggies, but they were still pretty fresh/crunchy as opposed to being steamed like they're supposed to be. The rice was the only thing they didn't mess up for my meal. I opted to skip dinner that night until I could rectify the situation. After buying some sauce for the tofu the next day, my meal got better. It just sucks that I couldn't enjoy it that evening. The meh: I ordered some California rolls to see how they do their sushi. (If you can't do a good CA roll, I'm not even going to bother experimenting with the rest of the menu) Overall the roll was okay. It wasn't bad nor omg-amazing, it was just okay. The broth was rich and the noodles were just done enough. My dining partner ordered the tofu Katsu and it was very good. Surprisingly it was a lot of food! It came with 2 big tofu steaks, rice, and a sweet dipping sauce. I'm glad it also came with a few vegetables to balance out the dish. Did not have the most excellent experience here unfortunately. The restaurant, although small, does have the potential for a cozy vibe. However, it is a bit dirty, too bright, and not well decorated. They had two greeters/waiters, a women who was friendly but not completely attentive, and, like other reviewers have said, a ten year old boy. I have been to plenty of family run eateries, but these folks need to stop using their child as an employee. This is illegal and wrong. The seaweed salad was fine bit with a confusing tomato on the side. The cucumber roll was not crispy and rather poor quality vegetables used. The temporah roll was average. I've been here several times now. I keep returning because the food is just that good! I rarely give a restaurant 5 stars, but this one definitely deserves it. Restaurant - The interior is typical Japanese style eating. Not super comfortable, but enough. The place is clean and well decorated. My only complaint to the restaurant itself is the choice of music. They play elevator music that about puts you to sleep while you're eating. Given the rest of the atmosphere, I would actually appreciate some Japanese music, or at least something a little more lively than what they're playing anyway...lol Food - Now here's where they shine here! Everything is homemade, I asked and that's what I was told anyway. However, it does taste very good! I always get the Tonkotsu Ramen because I favor Pork Broth. And since I don't care for Bamboo, I always ask to have it replaced with something, and they always accommodate with a smile. The portion sizes are similar to what I've had at most other ramen places, a nice BIG bowl with plenty of broth, and plenty of fillings to make sure you'r full by the end. The sides are a little pricey for what you get, but the main dish is definitely worth it. Service - The service here is excellent! Whether you're eating in or getting to go, they always service with a smile and do everything they can to ensure you're satisfied. I even ordered online once and accidentally put the wrong pickup time so I ended up arriving 20min before my order said I would; they acknowledged that and still prepared my food right away! I only waited a few minutes and I was given my order, still yet, with a smile (and an apology from me). We've had good experiences before in the past. Not sure if there was an ownership change or what. Different, younger couple working there, and the decor has changed a bit. The first thing I noticed is that the service is quite leisurely. I observed others standing for quite some time before being addressed and it felt a smidge on the longer side before we were able to order. The table next to me sat for a very long time before ordering. Excusable and I understand when it's a mom and pop shop with limited staff, I can be patient. My kid ordered a ramen. They got their order first and then it was another 15 minutes before I got my order. Weird and awkward. Also, I could've overlooked this. BUT, my kid's ramen had udon noodles and that's not what they ordered. I flagged the server and mentioned this and she took it back w/o any issue. We got the replacement ramen -- which their ramen noodles are super skinny and very different from any ramen noodles we've ever had anywhere else. Also excusable. NOT excusable, when she brought the replacement ramen, she ARGUED with us and insisted that my kid said "with udon noodles," which couldn't be because they've never had udon in their life and would never have ordered that. I confess my kid could speak up and maybe there was a language barrier too. But it sucked to have her basically lecturing us for what could've been a simple fix. A MAJOR sanitation red flag: at each table there is a canister of communal reusable chopsticks and unwrapped disposable straws. The chopsticks were facing upwards and downwards, so when you go to grab your chopsticks, you are touching the mouth-touching parts of a bunch of other chopsticks. I tried to fish for only the ones that were facing down. The straws, on the other hands, were bendy ones and the bendy parts were facing up, so the mouthpieces were all in everyone else's grasp. Store was clean, service was great. Taste-wise, i have had better. The main menu foods taste really good (i would give 4.5), but the sides that come are very disappointing. For a store that was open more than 10 years, it must be new or stubborn owners, or they are just not interested in the menus. I really think the store could be one of the best in Colorado with some menu developments. Udon Kaisha is a cute family-owned establishment with super friendly service. I got it into my head last evening that I really wanted both ramen and sushi, and Udon Kaisha fit the bill. Not only that, this place has the real-deal takoyaki, meaning there's octopus rather than a substitute. Yum! I ordered the House Special Ramen, and my husband ordered the Spicy Pork Ramen. Mine had a clear shoyu (soy sauce) broth, with a few slices of slightly bland chashu and satisfyingly al dente ramen. We're sorry to report that the Spicy Pork Ramen was not in the least bit spicy, though it hits the spot if you want a warm bowl of noodles to fill the tummy on a cold winter night. We decided to forego the nigiri since it was our first time there, and this *is* a landlocked state. Instead, we decided on dressed-up "sushi" in the form of a firecracker roll, which is a deep-fried spicy tuna and avocado roll with a spicy sauce. Again, this wasn't spicy at all, but it sure was tasty while it was fresh out of the fryer. For our infant, we ordered him a kid's size chashu bowl, with sauce-drizzled rice, veggies, and pork belly with waaaay too much fat and not enough of the lean parts of pork belly we were hoping to feed him. Luckily, he didn't eat much of it. It's a solid pick for some Japanese food if you happen to be nearby. This was our first and last time. My first clue should have been the other honest Yelpers, my second should have been the expired chile oil, and my the third should have been the cook in the back wearing flip flops and a tank top. Oh yeah, let me get to the food. Nope. The soup had hints of Campbell's chicken noodle broth and the noodles were very soft. The noodles were overcooked or they were hanging out in a hot pot ALL DAY. The pork was obviously at least two days old (I know my pork) but let me tell you about the hard boiled egg, the egg white was hardly an egg white, it was more of a light brown. This would only happen from sitting in broth for more than 8 hours. The egg white absorbs the broth and changes color. This was my experience. I couldn't eat this again even if I was literally starving. I would rather go hunt for squirrels. read more
