So I haven't done an UberEats review in a while. Big reason is because since I didn't come in person and only had this on UberEats, I didn't want to risk another one of my reviews being reported and deleted because "it was unclear whether it was a firsthand experience". In the past 2 months alone, I have already had to gatekeep reviews to 2 restaurants for that exact reason, and it will be why I will have to gatekeep more in the future. Today however, I had UCBC Bagels from UberEats, and after eating, I realized that this had to be talked about, so here we are on Yelp with this establishment. Plus, this plus does apply promotional discounts from UberEats, so that in of itself is already a plus. Really, "University of Cutting Big Corners" would be a quite fitting name for this business because this did really taste like some big corners were cut with my order. I had the New Yorker Bagel with scallion cream cheese, opting out of tomatoes, and I had also added on a latte, in which I had left instructions to add cream and sugar. Starting with the latte, I have a notorious sweet tooth, so when I tasted this latte, I could tell that any sugar that was added on was skimped on. The coffee tasted fine, but let's be real, it wasn't even close to the best latte I ever had. I could have chosen to just do the sugar myself after the order came and it not make any sort of difference. If I'm being completely honest, this latte was so mid that I can actually get more satisfaction for less just by downing a Java Monster. It's the bagel however that prompted me to write this review, because Jesus Christ was this bagel something else. They wrapped it up neat enough, I'll give them that, but this bagel overall tasted as though it seriously needed a better therapist than the one it got. The lox tasted okay on its own, but the onions were some of the skinniest red onions I had ever seen on a bagel, and the cream cheese... That cream cheese tasted old, like maybe solid butter that's seen its better days. I cannot defend that whatsoever. Again, I could have removed the extra add-in's, slashed on some Philadelphia cream cheese, put the fixing back on afterward, and I would have been more satisfied. You know what? Scratch that! I could remake this bagel bigger and better at home if I so wanted to for less money. I'd just need to figure out how much lox costs if I were to go shopping for it. Overall, I wouldn't get this again though I did appreciate the promotional discounts from UberEats. If I am craving a bagel from a different town to be delivered, I think I will stick with something better like Badass Bagels. read more

Bagel with cream cheese $6.43 plus tax. If you go ~3 miles down New Canaan Ave, you can get two bagels for less than $5.50 and they're better. read more

Ok. Let's try and cover the important things. 1. Music blaring with cuss words in the songs, so that was uncomfortable with my 3 year old. 2. Ordered the roton point. I received a sandwich with some of the topping but missing the tomato and sprouts. 3. Sandwich itself was gross and messy. I took the entire thing apart and rebuilt it, removing the lettuce rib ends that were provided. $20 Lesson learned. Won't be back. Be warned with the above, maybe its for you. Not for me. 1 star. Was told by a friend this place was good so had to try it and wow am I glad I did. Seriously the best bagel I ever had. I ordered a everything bagel toasted with jalapeño cream cheese. The bagel itself was delicious and had a light crunch which I love. The jalapeño cream cheese was so so good and it was a little spicy which I loved. Will definitely be back and excited to try the lunch sandwiches. read more

Went there today and got the ham, apple, cheddar melt. The last time I got this it was really good and made it a point to go back and get it again. This time it was terrible. There was literally 1 tiny sliver of apple and a tiny amount of cheese. Cheese not even melted even though I said "toasted." This type of inconsistency makes me not want to go back. Like what is the standard amount of apple on this sandwich supposed to be because it was so different first time vs. second time? One barely noticeable slice or multiple slices like the last time I got this? I am still giving 3 stars because I don't want to contribute to their rating tanking. The bagels are good here and I like their veggie cream cheese. They need to work on consistency with their sandwiches though so you know what you are getting. read more

This place is great for bagels as long as you are either a friend of the owner or call in your order. If you are foolish enough to go there and wait in line then you are likely going to have to wait while the owner ignores the line (even if it's only one person) and makes the orders of her "regulars" as they walk through the door. Not to worry though. The rest of the staff will ignore you as well while they take the phone orders and begin to make those. That was enough for me so I walked out. I am quite certain that they didn't even notice or care. read more

Coming from NYC my bagel expectations are high. Reading the negative reviews here I wouldn't go so far as comparing these bagels to white bread. But they are no nyc bagel either. Perhaps somewhere in between. It will do if you're in a pinch and just need that bagel. My other complaint would be how they totally skimped on the cream cheese. I'm used to every New York City bagel shop loading the cream cheese on to the point that I may need to remove some. Here it's just the opposite. I think I had enough cream cheese on each side of the bagel for one bite, not the whole bagel. I had to reapply cream cheese from my fridge which sucked since I love the whipped one they have. I'm not sure what the extra charge is for cc but I'm sure it's enough to make me even more upset about not getting nearly enough. Maybe this is based on whoever the person is there serving it but they should train their people to give more (IMO!). My partner picked it up for me and brought the bagel home, otherwise I would have come back to the counter and asked for more. 3 stars for average bagels that will suffice. Just make sure you ask for a decent amount of cream cheese if that's your thing. read more

This is a vast improvement over the bagel store that was in this location before. The bagels are the real deal and I should know I spent my teens and early twenty's working in bagel stores in New York. Very happy to have this place in our town. I overlooked some of the early on growing pains with the service and find recently the place runs very smoothly. The "ram" cream cheese and lox sandwich is as good as it gets and is a weekly staple for me. read more

As expressed by at least one other reviewer, the texture and taste of the bagels at UCBC is bland and white-bread-ish. They look good, but the remorse begins in the very first bite. Service is friendly and courteous enough, if not a little slow, but the bagels are awful. I had a terrible poppy bagel my first visit but I still returned, thinking, "Maybe they were just getting up to speed, since they've just opened for business." Nope. The second bagel -- the "everything" variety -- was also terrible. I guess that's just how they do it there. Both visits were around 8 a.m. and the bagels were already tough, teetering on the edge of almost-stale. It makes me wonder if they're even made on the premises. It's very disappointing. There is a dearth of decent bagel shops in the New Canaan area, and UCBC had a chance to make its mark, but unless I hear that things have changed, I'm not going back. read more

Bagels are ok. Service is incredibly slow and disorganized. Your bagels sit in the toaster while they start with another customer. By the time they add cream cheese and wrap your bagel it is cold. I don't think this spot will make it in New Canaan. read more

This place sucks. The woman who works here or owns this place is terrible at her job. There are never enough people working here and they are always out of popular bagels by 11am on a Sunday which is ridiculous. Brueggers had a better variety of bagels, friendlier staff/owner, better tasting bagels, and they were made in house. Bring back brueggers I'm never coming to ucbc again I would rather drive to Norwalk to Liz Sue. read more

I was very disappointed when the old bagel store in this spot closed. I was ecstatic when I heard Upper Crust was going to open and quench the bagel drought I was experiencing. However, the opening of this store only heightened my disappointment with their poor service and quality. The bagels taste like white bread, not what a real bagel should taste like. The "eggs" are over-salted, yellow loafs that DO NOT come even close to the definition of an egg. What's more, I asked for a sausage egg and cheese, an egg and cheese with sriracha, and a cinnamon raisin bagel. I received two plain egg and cheeses and a rainbow bagel. In addition to this, I was completely over charged. Overall, this bagel store is a colossal failure and I do not recommend coming here. read more

UCBC has a location in Darien, I used to travel there to enjoy their bagels and lunch creations. I was tickled they came to our town and bring their great bagels. Their lemon basil chicken salad is delicious and their chop salads are awesome. The chop salads are fresh chopped to order with any ingredients you desire. read more

They don't answer the phone when you call to order ahead. They are inefficient and usually understaffed. Just don't seem to get it. And for the third time they got my order wrong. read more

Ann B. and Steven K. don't know what they're talking about. The bagels were nice and fresh and the bacon egg and cheese was a delight on a cold winter morning. The egg was nice and fluffy, the bacon well-cooked, and the cheese melted to perfection. The service was prompt and pleasant even at 6:07 am on a Monday. New Canaan is lucky to have a UCBC -- it's right by the train and open first thing in the morning, unlike Veggie Barn or others. I will return. read more

Another bagel store comes to town and it has the same poor customer service as the last. Check your receipts two times this week we went there and were charged for more than what we asked for. Today we asked for a manager and first was told there isn't one here then someone there goes I'm in charge while the girl that over charged us stared us down. We explained to the person in charge that's not right and if you did this to us twice how many others don't notice it. They threw a dollar on the counter no I'm sorry nothing. You wont do very well in this town with poor customer service and we now will travel a bit farther to support your competition. read more
