The trails were clean and scenic, with towering trees that made us feel like we were in Tahoe. We spotted some lifelike animal statues along the way and enjoyed a relaxing 2-mile loop past playgrounds and open fields. Bad news, we are not happy they are making the space for swimming much smaller and removing a diving board leaving us all to share one, which will leave us dripping along side a long line waiting to dive. As a UCD alum, I've been taking my family to the REC POOL for last 25 years. We just sat and watched the video of what's coming in dismay. Maybe the point of making the useable space for swimming much smaller is to discourage families from going as it was intended to be for unmarried students without family living close by. My 10 and 12 year olds have celebrated birthdays here over the past decade. The original 1966 pool design seems more innovative than the new 2019 one that seems very basic with two small rectangle pools being planned... I guess a lot of cement will need to be ordered to fill in swimming area?!? Wow. Then again maybe the video was not scaled to planned size very well. I would have only renovated the 50 year old locker rooms and added the beach volleyball court with tall thin netting around it in an attempt to keep driven leather v-balls from rolling into pools or students studying on their beach towels. Where are our creative architects? Where's the water slide, slip & slide OR Zip line into the pool? Insurance issues can be avoided with planning. What about water aerobics in a 4' level shallow end for those who have joint pain or who are athletes mending an injury aquatically? What about a low and high dive diving board area? Insurance issues avoided with planning and setting rules for use. Wheres the creativity? Did they consider inviting ideas and raising funds by local fundraisers to pay for implementing a much more innovative plan?

I really enjoy spending time at the Yolo Wildlife Area. It's a great spot to walk around, clear…read moreyour head, and catch a sunrise or sunset. The open space and wetlands make it feel peaceful, and there's almost always some kind of wildlife to see. One of the coolest things is watching the bats fly out from under the causeway at dusk. It's such a simple but unforgettable experience. If you go during certain times of the year, you can also do guided wildlife talks and tours with the Yolo Basin Foundation, where you drive out in a caravan with walkie talkies throughout the wildlife area and share a lot of interesting information about the ecosystem. It adds a lot of context to what you're seeing. Even if you're not doing a tour, you can still go to the main entrance and explore on your own. It's just an all-around solid local spot to enjoy nature and slow down for a bit. Highly recommend :)

You do have to put up with some noise from the highway, but it's worth it if you're looking for birds like I was. Davis Paintball made my birthday get together awesome!…read more I rallied a group of 18 of us and I was chatting with Micah a lot about reservations and what was expected payment wise, etc when we got to the field. It was very organized and very quick when we wanted to check in. I was surprised at how efficient they were getting us out there and playing games! It was back to back for the most of it. (30 minute lunch break for staff.) Everyone in my group had a good time and we will be back. Thanks for making this smooth for all of us! If I had to say anything, I wish I was able to go on the other courses! Some of it looked pretty flooded so it was probably closed for safety reasons. We were on the same one whole time but it was still a blast.

I've driven by this park so many times as it's connected to Davis AYSO Fields but didn't realize…read morethe actually park portion was here, since the grassy fields are so large and close to Pole Line Rd. The actual park has a decent amount of recreational activities you can partake in. It's a little difficult to discern where AYSO Fields ends and the park begins, but so long as there isn't a soccer game going on, I think you can likely use the whole space for whatever needs you have. In the actual park, there's a playground, a covered gazebo with a modest amount of seating, and a basketball court. Nearby there are soccer nets/goals and what looks like a wall to practice soccer kicks, though you could easily use it for a handful of other games. Not sure if the soccer stuff is actually part of the park, but again, they're pretty much connected. Lots of space here to picnic or play with your dog while there isn't a game going on. Would be nice to see a covered restroom over porta potties, but I'm sure folks make do. Only other complain would be that there's not really any shade covering outside of the gazebo and the AYSO Fields side of thing is in need or some trash removal; all the cans are full and some trash has ended up spilled over into the makeshift parking lot. The actual park's trash cans are much cleaner, on the other hand. A nice resource for folks that live out this way, for sure!

Came across this kayaking company via instagram and had to check it out. They were offering a full…read moremoon guided tour and I wanted in. Prior to excursion, my friends and I had to reserve a spot on their website. The initial tour ended up being fully booked, however, James the guide offered open up another day due to the moon tour being so popular. The meeting area was at the boat launch ramp area. We signed waivers and were given a run down on kayaking 101 (it was our first kayaking excursion) with 4 other people. The weather was warm, the waters were calm and the mosquitoes were biting. So don't forget to apply sunscreen and have plenty of bug repellent! Wear water shoes, bring snacks and water. Also, maybe bring a small fanny pack or water resistant bag to carry small items in. As we paddled, James checked up on everybody and made sure we were all doing okay. Along the way he informed us about the wetlands and what type of wildlife were around. James even provided us with his own bug repellent to use to keep the mosquitoes at bay. Once it was dark enough, we settled in an area of the wetlands to wait for the moon to rise. My friends and I were elated and in awe that we got to see the Harvest moon rise on the hills whilst kayaking. Kodak moment for sure. The journey around Suisun Bay lasted for about 2 hours. It was a cool experience, especially with the moon acting as our guiding light. My arms definitely got in a work out from paddling so much. Overall, great experience, reasonably priced and James was professional and informative. Highly recommend!

I was worried that I had to rent a U-Haul pickup truck to tow their equipment. No Worries!! After making a reservation online, you show up on time. Time is important, it was quite a drive and I was 30 minutes late to my reservation. It was all good, I made it on time to enjoy the jet skis! Upon arrival, a person will brief you everything. Once completed, you follow the person towing your rental to the launch gate. Parking is $20, cash only! From there, you will enjoy your rental! Despite my experience, I did ran through a problem during my rental. I followed their rules and yet I got a warning light. Called the phone number they have given me, luckily I was with a buddy. They sent guys out to tow the jet ski, thank you! After we got back, no problems or damages were found on both jet skis. Small issue was oil overfill during the time the jet ski went through maintenance. It was understandable but I was given $25 for my next rental and refund back. We've taken it with care and hope someday to return to have fun!! S/O to the staff, thank you once again :)

Finalizing our plans we worked with Rebekah and she was very kind and diligent and reassuring. The tent cabin by the river was a beautiful spot and loved waking up hearing the river. It was a very hot day and the it cooled off which was great. Clean bathroom and showers, running hot water a plus. They have volley ball, corn hole, zip line and rock climbing wall. Overall, beautiful campsite and we can't wait to return. Rafting was amazing, Aubrey and Maggie were the guides for our group and they made our experience so fun! We always felt safe and well informed. We all were first time rafters, great experience and soooooo much fun!!! I highly recommend Mother Lode for your one stop shop!!
