Edit: To clarify, I found it pretty disappointing that there was an entire shelf dedicated to European history, and another shelf generalized as "world history". Within the "world history" shelf, I saw a row of books specifically about Israel and Zionism, albeit not labeled as such. The only book with Palestine in the title was on display, but on the back cover it specified that it recounts the "experiences of Zionist women settling in Palestine", and not indigenous Palestinians. I scanned the shelf and didn't see a single book about Palestine, despite a fair number on Israel. Given how charged this topic is with the ongoing genocide in Gaza, I felt uncomfortable as it seemed that the bookstore had taken an intentional stance by not providing, at the very least, accounts of both sides of the matter.

I cannot recommend staying away from Hearts for Paws enough. I'm not someone to leave negative reviews EVER. But our experience with Hearts for Paws was so awful that I feel compelled to warn others away. We were very interested in doing a trial adoption (and hopefully adopting) a dog from them. We brought her home for what was stipulated to as a 5-7 day trial. When we picked her up, the foster noted some concerns they had--namely that the dog wouldn't do well in a small apartment like ours, as she was currently running on a 5 acre property. They were also concerned that she wouldn't do well with our cat, as she has a high prey drive (though we'd been told by the rescue that she was good with cats). Knowing this, we still decided to give it a try. The poor dog whined every day and night. She'd settle for a short period before beginning to whine and pace again. It was very obvious that she was upset and needed more space. We took her for 3 hour long walks each day, but even that wasn't enough. Further, the whining and pacing intensified, and she started jumping at closed doors, including the door to the room our cat was in. Our cat was petrified. Heartbroken but knowing this wasn't going to work, we reached out to the foster and the rescue. The foster was a sweetheart, and was ready to meet us to take the dog back. The rescue was another story. She rapidly started lobbing attacks at us when we explained we wanted to return her as soon as possible. She said horrifying things, and even told us we should hold onto her longer because "no one had died" so all must be well. She told us that if she had to take the dog back sooner (mind you we were trying to return the dog to the foster, not her), it would risk this dog's and other's lives. She sent us a photograph of a dead dog's brain splattered on the road, telling us this was the kind of thing that happened because of people like us. I won't share the screenshots of her messages or the photo, as it doesn't need to be done here. But needless to say, this is not a rescue worth dealing with, nor is it one who seems to really take seriously what's best for pets. I would not ever go near this team.

She puts on several tours per year (June for Rotary, October for Breast Cancer, and April for Shriners Children's Hospital). She is always happy to host volunteers who would like to partake in garden work. Volunteers can report to Huei's garden Sundays 10-12. She will guide and offer great insight into gardening. I am writing this review as an artist with approximately 40 years of experience in painting and the…read morevisual arts. This was my first time participating in an exhibition at this gallery, as I had been considering becoming a member. Unfortunately, my experience was extremely disappointing. Two weeks after the exhibition opened, I discovered that my artwork had been incorrectly labeled. Although I had clearly stated in my submission form that my work is "mixed media," it was presented as "watercolor." This is not a minor mistake--anyone with even basic knowledge of art can easily recognize that my work is not watercolor. Mislabeling directly affects how viewers perceive the artwork and can influence voting and audience feedback. I contacted the gallery by email to request a correction, but received no response. After repeated follow-ups over three consecutive days, I finally received a reply on the fourth day confirming that the label had been corrected. Such delays and lack of accountability are not acceptable in a professional environment. Throughout this experience, I felt that there was insufficient attention to professional conduct and respect for artists--especially emerging ones. I also sensed a difference in the way I was treated compared to others, which made me feel overlooked and unwelcome. In addition, when I inquired about the possibility of offering smaller works suitable for sale in the gift shop, my request was immediately dismissed without any review of my work. Only after I insisted did I send examples of my pieces, which I believe deserved proper consideration, yet my request was still not evaluated fairly. Due to this overall experience, I ultimately decided to withdraw my artwork from the exhibition. I did not want my work to continue being misrepresented or treated without proper respect. To make matters worse, the refund process for the $40 exhibition fee was handled carelessly. The gallery issued the check incorrectly three times, each time misspelling my last name. In the end, I had to write my name on a piece of paper to ensure the check was finally issued correctly. I also witnessed another artist whose ceramic work, valued at $1,000, was damaged while in the gallery's care. She was understandably upset, and this raised further concerns about how artworks are handled and stored. Overall, this gallery falls far short of the professional standards expected from an art institution. There appears to be unfair treatment of artists, with decisions seemingly influenced by personal relationships and favoritism, which is also quite evident on their social media presence. I sincerely hope that in the future this gallery improves in terms of communication, professionalism, fairness, and respect toward artists.
