    Only $3!

I stopped by Logos Books for the first time today and boy do I regret not going sooner. Their science fiction section is great - it's right at the front of the store and had a great mix of classics and books I'd never heard of before. And their prices are fantastic. I picked up this Richard Matheson short story collection for only $3! And many of the other books I was considering were just as cheap. I didn't venture too much further into the store so I can't speak to anything else (though I saw they had some really cool jigsaw puzzles for sale), but the science fiction section alone has me already wanting to go back for more. Highly recommend!

The books that I buy are reasonably priced. I got a hard cover book by Stephan King the other day.

Cute little shop. Not the biggest selection of books but great prices and service.

Great place for gently used "old-school" children's books. Quiet, small, great prices.

Good assortment of books, great staff and proceeds go to a great cause, what else could you want from a bookstore?

Their garden was more beautiful in person, and it was a pleasure to walk through it... along with the other gardens. The Pence Gallery itself is very nice. We stopped by because we had will call tickets for the garden tour. The lady at the front desk was very friendly and welcoming. She gave us a little goodie bag which we appreciated. The place was clean and organize, it was also serene and relaxing. As for the garden tour event, the description on the Pence Gallery website said there would be 7-10 gardens. Sadly, there were only FIVE + a stop at the gallery, and it literally took us less than two hours to do the whole tour. We definitely would have planned our morning differently had we known there were only five gardens. Hoping they offer more gardens next year! Other than that, we had a good experience at Pence Gallery and their garden tour event.

Within all of this stuff, was a bunch of new and lightly used clothing. In the past I have donated clothing to my local Goodwill Express. However, I did some reflection and realized that all of the clothing that I donated was being sold for profit. Going forward, my intention was to donate to an organization that receives the donation(s) and distributes them to underprivileged individuals/families free of charge. Some research led me to the Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services. Upon calling to verify their hours (Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, 10am-1pm and Wednesday, 4pm-7pm), I gathered all of the clothing and hit the road on a mission to make a difference. Upon arrival, I was greeted by a Sacramento Food Bank employee who eagerly began to load my clothing donations onto a cart. Since a lot of the clothing consisted of dress pants and dress slacks, he proceeded to inform me about a program called "Job Smart Clothing." Job Smart Clothing is a program within Sacramento Food Bank that provides career appropriate apparel for underprivileged individuals interviewing for employment or currently employed. How cool is that? I'm not a representative for Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services. However, I will say that they provide an awesome service to the community, and that a little donation goes a long way (individuals who benefit from their services often leave with 15-20 pieces of clothing per visit). Before you throw away that piece of clothing that you think is out of style or doesn't quite hug your curves the way that they used to, think about donating it to the Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services!

I had no idea this service was available in our area. I cannot begin to say how impressed I am. I am big into the idea of a hand up rather than a hand out. That seems to be the theme of the Food Bank and family services. It's so much more than just a food bank. They provide clothing and supplies, parenting classes, English classes, Computer classes, career counseling, GED courses, legal services including immigration services, community garden, and childcare while using these services. They have a whole room dedicated to a personal stylist who can help people get ready for job interviews and important events. Anyone can come get help- refugees to people who have fallen on hard times. No proof of income is needed to partake, and fees only to certain services (like the GED or immigration attorney). If someone is trying to improve their life or just get help in a crisis, the Food Bank and Family Services is there to help!
