This is a perfect little indie bookstore. I'm an old bookseller, and can attest to the fact that it has a great selection of titles and genres. You can choose from both new books (and they carry more new titles than just the bestsellers) and used titles (great value! I particularly appreciate the outstanding selection of see and new SF/F). They also purchase used books, and gave me a choice of store credit or cash. They support educators and offer a teacher discount. They also do special orders. Next to the comic book store down the street, Crawford's is our only local bookstore! You can email them to see if they have something in stock, but if they don't have it they can order it for you. They always have a great selection of graphic novels - check for more at the back left corner of the store! There is a piano there, but unfortunately I have yet to make it to any of their live piano nights. They do great things for the community, such as hosting pop up markets and sending books to soldiers. read more

A nice and quiet shop full of your favorite classics, popular authors, and new releases! There is a $1 cart out front, a retail selection, and a chair here and there, if you want to stay awhile. The staff is friendly, and it's nice and clean inside. I could spend an entire afternoon here whenever I don't have plans. read more

Cute local bookstore that buys and sells new and used books. The store is really clean and organized and the staff were really nice. They have flyers from the community that highlight volunteer opportunities, services, small businesses and various organizations. This small little store is cute. I found it as I parked, trying to get food from somewhere else and decided to walk in here and check it out. On the outside of the store they were selling books that were a great price. Check out the pics. I just recently found out that this used book store existed and had to go check it out. I hadn't found a used bookstore in the area that I love yet, and this one definitely takes the cake! They are super well organized, which is something I appreciate in a bookstore. They had many new looking books which they could have sold as a "new book." I loved that they are honest and would sell even brand new looking books for $10. I found another used book store in the area where that was not the case. Even their cookbooks were $10 (prices varied) if it was used! They advertised for 2 different book clubs they hold each month. Love this store and will be in again soon. read more

There are so many things I love about J Crawford Bookstore. The fact that it's an independently owned bookstore with outstanding customer service tops my list. They always have book sale bins and a couple of small racks on the sidewalk out front next to the main entrance. I come here thinking I'll breeze by those bins... but au contraire ... I have yet to figure out how to pull that off. At J Crawford's books you will find all the qualities of a true "happy place". It's convenient, it's cozy, and everyone who frequents this little shop are such kind people. As an avid reader and a cookbook collector I was delighted to find several lovely cookbooks from those sale bins out front. read more

Today they had a sale where it was $5 for a bag books, I went in to pay but my card wasn't working but then after multiple attempts to try to get the card to work the owner stepped in and just gave me them for free and told me they were a gift! And even after when I came in to buy another book a few minutes later and offered to pay her back, she told me it was alright and just told me to come back another time. The employees were just the kindest and so cool! I'd highly recommend because this made my day after a rough morning. 100/10 read more

I come here every once in a while to check out their new selection of books. The books are in pretty good condition. You can trade in books for store credit (to get half off of the used books). Store credit does not apply to the new books. They usually have clearance books outside of the store. I usually browse those books first. I found a really cool Titanic book there for only $2. American Girl books have there own section in the children's books, which makes it easy to find what I'm looking for. I have noticed books from video games there in the sy-fy section such as Halo. They had a couple Doctor Who books in that section too. Usually when I visit, I am able to get a parking spot right outside the bookstore. It's located right next to Little Ceasars. The parking lot is small, but usually there are spots available for shopping here. If not, then there is more parking around the corner or street parking. read more

Crawfords's has given their store a major upgrade (i.e., richer curation of new & used books / genres, new shelves, knowledgeable & engaging staff (though that's been a standard :) their fiction collection is a treasure trove & they also carry a lot of newer titles likely relevant to local bookclubs and reading groups. i haven't sold books at Crawford's in a while, but need to soon ! read more

A small bookstore with a solid selection (both new and used). They mostly specialize in fiction (a hearty selection of general fiction, sci-fi, mystery, horror, romance, etc) but have some non-fiction as well (history, biographies, etc). I usually come here if I need something in the "Classics" category because they tend to be well-stocked. Staff is nice, and it looks like they do book clubs and small events as well. Parking is easy (shared lot with Little Caesar's and Hollywood Hardware) and overall it's a place every book lover in Sac should check out at least once. read more

I am from the SF Bay area and visited Crawford's book store today. This is an independently owned bookstore with outstanding customer service! The lady who helped me today was super knowledgeable about books and extremely friendly and nice! I feel that the selection between used and new books was superb. I thought the prices were very fair and kind of on the low side. I hope the local community will continue to support this bookstore and I will definitely visit it every time I am in town. btw ... while I was shopping with the sales person, I felt absolutely no pressure to buy any of the books that were recommended to me. I have been meaning to come here for quite sometime as I often frequent Hollywood Hardware next door. Today was finally the day as I had some time to kill before my pickup order would be ready to go. I just bought 5 new books for my Kindle the night before, but I love me some "real" books. As I browsed I was about to head out convincing myself I had already spent 40 dollars on books the night before when the owner started to make some great recommendations. He recommended one of my favorite books before showing me another good book. When I went to front they had on display 3 books I've also meaning to check out but I held back. I'll have to return for those! Oh and even better out their prices! The book I got was cheaper then amazon! I'll come back after I get through this stack of reads. read more

This place is wonderful. Large selection of reasonably priced used books (some are fantastic deals!), owned and operated by a couple so generous of spirit that you feel badly about yourself. Like any used bookstore, they may not have the exact book you're looking for at the exact moment you want it... but there is a good chance they will. This is a great place to peruse for new reading material, too. The proprietors are usually have recommendations. A couple of things that make this place special: 1) It's dog-friendly. Your dog is welcome to hang out, and will be given a treat. 2) It has old school systems, and I respect that. For example, they keep a ledger with your store credit, that is simply attached to your name. They also fill out gift certificates -- no swiping gift cards here. (And you get a little bonus on your ledger when you buy gift certificates!) read more

i picked up a book here the other day for a camping trip. it's a smallish spot but they have a good selection of fiction. They have decent prices and they buy books. The owner was very nice and knowledgable about the books i was looking into and gave me some great suggestions but for the most part left me alone to read the backs which is something i appreciate in book stores. read more

Such a charming bookstore! Plenty of parking in the private lot. The selection is a bit limited, but lots of newer titles. They make it very easy to resell books so the inventory is constantly updated. Book prices are higher than other used bookstores, but still reasonable and affordable.
