Although I am clearly extremely Norwegian in nearly every respect, my mother was, in fact, a Deutschlander, so it should come as no surprise that any service named "Uber" would have immediate and lasting appeal for me. It could be "Cruella deVille's Coat Factory Outlet Store", but if you gave it a name with guttural vowels and harsh consonant sounds like "Schottzie", I would be the first in line to buy a coat! Uber speaks to me...and resonates for more than just name alone (although I feel a little like Dr. Strangelove when I say "Uber"...and I have to suppress an involuntary salute every time I write "Uber")..."Uber"...shudder. So being a fan of nearly all things mobile, I signed up, loaded the app and began Ubering all over myself! I don't drink anymore (and it's been many, many years since I found myself lying prone on the ground, holding on to keep from falling off the world), but that doesn't mean that the Beautiful Carin and I don't appreciate getting a ride somewhere...we do! When we head out for dinner, head off to a party, head over to John Wayne Intergalactic Spaceport or just want to go shopping at one of our wonderful, jam-packed and parking challenged malls (at least at this time of year), we just "Uber", Uber Alles! In a few minutes (so far, they have never missed a time or location) a clean, well-maintained econobox (if you're cheaping out),or a town car or an SUV shows up and Blitzkreig...you're on your way! Yay! Uber already has your credit card and while you can tip if you wanna, the drivers aren't aggressively asking (in fact, I haven't had one driver even hint at a tip yet...unlike every cabbie I have ridden with over the decades). It's an easy and delightful way to get around when you're out on the town, or even when you're just headed down to that Christmas Party on Harbor Island and you: A. Don't want to fight the traffic yourself and; B. Prefer to arrive in a Black Escalade the way that the rest of the swells attending the soiree arrive...hey, I'm just as vain as the next Newport Beachian. To sweeten the dealio, Uber...sorry, my involuntary salute kicked in for a minute...gives you a discount on your first ride and discounts for people that you refer to them...so let's keep this going! So far, Uber is orders of magnitude better than the other taxi and car service providers, even if only for the flexibility they offer in car types and usage fees! Load up the app, tap the icon and Uber on over to Der Weinerschnitzel for a holiday feast (that's where we are holding the Donald S. Holiday Extravaganza this year). I have used Uber numerous times over past 2 years. Bad attempted Uber return experience today..Jan 21, 2016 ..great Uber driver from Costa Mesa CA to Womens March on4th St.Santa Ana CA. Required return from different location. ..upon confirmation from uber..they listed same Address used in morning ride. I cancelled less than 2 minutes when I couldn't correct uber pick up location. Ive used it more than once unlike a lot of these poor reviews and each time it was cheaper and in my humble opinion "nicer" of a ride than cabs, since most of these reviews do compare it to cabs. Also my ride has ALWAYS arrived within 10 minutes with NO reservation, you can't beat that! Ethics? Really? It's a transportation service, if we're going to talk about ethics why doesn't everyone just stop using Apple products because of the oversea assembly line conditions they subject their employees to. ROBBED BY UBER! How do I give less than 1 star? I have been using since I discovered it a few years back. I love, love, loved Uber. My wife and I use their services almost every weekend. However, this weekend we went to dinner 14.27 miles away the fare was $71.00 Ok, I knew the price and I'm good with that. When I called Uber for the ride home it was $176.00 for the same miles. The Uber driver's explanation is "it is now peak time so the price goes up that's how Uber makes more money" or " you can wait till the peak time has passed." Uber has lost my business. I hate driving the 91 freeway any more --and it was my grands graduation...it was an all day affair. My son picked me up at 1pm in Jurupa Valley --and we all went to the graduation. From there we took a one hour break and then went on to dinner at Orange County Mining Company. We finished dinner at roughly 8pm and my kid pulled out his phone and pulled up the UBER app---the driver was at the restauarant door in 3 MINUTES.... we opened the door and he was there!! Pleasant young man, beautiful SPOTLESS, spit shined, black BMW ---- I was home --in my house in "about" 40 minutes. Uber has been more of an INCONVENIENCE than a convenience. Majority of drivers are picky as hell about where they are willing to go when THEY SET THEIR OWN RANGE! I had left my phone in a car otw to work the other day so I called it 30 times within 10mins of realizing and it rang but no answer. My assumption was clearly that the driver was NOT trying to steal it or it would've been turned off. But when you find a phone wth the intention of giving it back and the same number calls 30x in a row, YOU ANSWER! It's not rocket science. Instead I had to fill out a bunch of forms on my laptop at my Uber log in, then they say I'll be charged $15 for the inconvenience fee for my driver to return the phone (which I was fine with!). Then I get the email that says "good news!" Your driver has your phone and he is allowing us to share is contact info with you so you can arrange the exchange of your phone! So late night I tried to call, and understandably he was asleep (I'm guessing). So first thing the next morning I text from my iPad several times and no response. Called from my roommates phone several times and still NO ANSWER. Then, he finally calls back my roomies phone around noon and says his next trip is to Costa Mesa where I live, so he'll call back when In the area. Time goes by and nothing! Mind you, I've been tracking my phone since I realized I didn't have it. So I watched this guy drive all over towns and cities that were NOT Costa Mesa. At one point he was close but then went back north. Eventually WHEN HE GOT HOME, he finally called back to my roomies phone and in a nutshell turned into a dick when we asked why he didn't call us back when he was on trips closer to us. Followed by, "well if you want the phone you have to come get it from me in Whittier." Why AM I BEING CHARGED for being the ONLY ONE INCONVENIENCED in this situation???? The best part is that Uber only really cares about their drivers and NOT the people that keep them in business. I really wish I could give more stars and a good comment but, unfortunately, I can't. Now, I do appreciate Uber as I take it often because of my Epilepsy (seizures), and I often don't have access to rides from my parents or friends so thank you uber for that BUT I just don't think it's fair about the "up charge" I get when it's a shorter distance. For instance: I needed to go to a shorter distance the other day for an important appointment and they wanted to charge me $22 for not only a 'wait time' for my driver but ALSO my charge for the Uber. I've made the mistake of accepting that before and they charged me but the driver canceled. Now, I know this may be the only income drivers get, and shorter distances suck because they're not getting a whole lot and I'm sorry but I do need you. People with medical conditions need you, people in general need you. We shouldn't be up charged for a 'wait time' plus our charge for the ride and then 90% of the time get canceled on yet charged. My rating for Uber is a big fat 0! I have never been so dissatisfied with any business that I have worked with in my life. I rely heavily on Uber as it is my primary means of transportation. I literally have to audit their charges after each ride and then work with a customer service rep via e-mail for five rounds of back and forth e-mailing when they finally discover, "Oops, we did it again". Another day, another error with Uber. Today, for example, my scheduled pick-up time was 7:05 am - So basically Uber can arrive anytime between 7:05 - 7:10 am per their confirmation. Here is a picture of the time and screen of the Uber Ride. It is exactly 7:05 am and I am in the backseat of my scheduled ride. Now, fast-forward. I have my receipt and a Wait Time fee of $1.91 is mysteriously part of my billing. Again, a false charge - They have even attempted to charge me surcharges without any prior notification which is not allowed per their own policy. I average $100/week in refunds from Uber due to their broken billing and illegal charging system. This needs to end. . . read more

Called an Uber at 5:30 on a Saturday morning to take me to John Wayne Airport. Dennis picked me up and dropped me off at the airport. We talked a little and he said he lived in Garden Grove. After I arrived at my destination I found an email from a Uber asking about my ride. It was then that I noticed I had been charged $31.68 instead of the quoted price of $9.56. The map of my recent trip shows that the car went from my house to JWA then to Garden Grove. Contacted Uber via email and they tried to tell me that I changed my destination en route to airport. I always try to be the nicest passenger for every Uber driver because I know that sometimes people can be asses. I know that I don't give any Uber drives problems because my average rating for Uber is a 5 star. So, I know that I have no issues with the drivers, but I have issues with the company. Long story short, got on an Uber on 03/25/16 with an estimated fee of 5-7$. Guy's phone was acting up. Woke up, saw that they charged me for a route I did not go on. Contacted Uber, they only refunded me 1.85$ from a 22.82$ that I was not even on. That is freaking bull. This is my ever first Yelp review because that is so frustrating. Uber is awesome - fast and great value (well, when there aren't surges). We were staying at Paradise Pier hotel for a busy 2 days at the Disney parks, but wanted to venture out to get a manicure/pedicure at a non-Disney spa. At $75 and up, I couldn't justify the nail services at Mandara Spa at the Grand Californian. My niece and I hailed an Uber ride, and Ramesh picked us up at the hotel. Our drive wasn't very far, and would have been a $4 ride except I had a free ride promo code. His Toyota Prius (is that the defacto Uber vehicle in So Cal?!) was clean and quiet and got us to the nail salon. When we were done at the salon, we hailed Uber once again (only after walking to the nearby Target where we got the ride) and Breann picked us up. Again, another clean and comfy Prius picked us up. Breann was super friendly and we chatted quiet a bit. Both drivers were rock stars and super dependable! read more

I scheduled a ride to the airport from Diamond Bar earlier in the day. The pick up time was arranged for 11:00. -11:10 pm. Then at 10:30 I got a notification to be ready at 11 pm. Then at 11:10 it shows they are looking for a ride for me...WTH. We waited until 11:40- cancelled the trip and tried to rebook to get na notice that no cars were available. We ended up having to cancel our airline reservations and rebooking costing us more Money because of their neglect and incompetence. Totally unacceptable. If I could select less than 1 star I would. I requested pick up at the LB Cruise Terminal going to The Westin in Long Beach. No big deal, right? The driver goofed up and used an address I had used weeks again. I sent in a photo or the original booking to no avail. Apparently a 6 miles ride costs $133, plus an additional $71. Which strikes me a super off. My original ride to the terminal was minimal at best, with a great driver. If you are smart DO NOT use UBER. Some Uber drivers are very good. Too bad they don't make up for the screw-ups and flawed Uber app. Instead of using standard GPS, Uber has a private direction system that is broken. They can never find my house. They have my correct address on their Uber GPS screen, but the drivers go to a non-existent address on a totally different street: they are at vacant lot on a street with a different name. Then they call me and say that I am at the wrong place and then secretly charge me for "waiting time." This is about as stupid as stupid gets and dishonest to boot. Yesterday I had a Uber pick my mom up at Lapalma and East st. He brought her to my jouse in Fullerton. She always tips the drivers. He left her at a neighbors house and she didn't know where she was. Bad. The Uber company stopped any reporting services for customers (i.e., you cant call to put in a complaint, or ask for technical assistance). So, the drivers have no consequences. If they are sick, or scary, or tell you there's an 'additional fee' not covered in the fee you were quoted. You have no recourse except to use the ride-service, or be left waiting for another ride. read more

Great service and excellent alternative to regular taxi service. App is straightforward to use. I find the ease of summoning a vehicle and payment are outstanding. Last summer my car was in the shop and I needed to get home. I called a cab. $30. Wow! Next time I called Uber and the fare was $14. Since then I've used the UberX service regularly. It is a great value. Why anyone would use a cab and pay more for a mediocre service is puzzling. I also used one of their premium services to pick-up my mother-in-law for a party. Worked perfectly and they treated her like a queen. She was very happy with the service. Watch out for Uber's extra charge scams. I was just charged a $10 fee by Uber for an Uber scam. When I contacted Uber they wouldn't remove the charge and wouldn't tell me why they charged the additional fee. Now I have to dispute it on my credit card. hello, I recently took 3 people on an Uber Select ride from Costa Mesa to Laguna. Pleasant sweet driver, however, the SELECT was nothing more than a small Lincoln. One Person had to sit in the front seat! Gee I'm going back to a proper car service. Ridiculous to pay $70 from Costa Mesa to Laguna in a car the same size as any common mid size Honda or Toyota. Is there a customer service phone number? Someone is trying to hack my account, I keep receiving text messages giving me a four digit code to access my account. It's a code to use when you can't remember your password. I cannot find a way to contact customer service, I had to cancel my credit card because I'm not able to remove my info. Updated Review: I contacted Uber that I had trouble with my pickup and how displeased I was they charged me a cancellation fee when I was trying to work things out with the driver. They credited me the cancellation fee towards my next ride. It did alleviate my annoyance and potential worry about their free access to my bank account. I did educate myself that if I cancel a pickup within 5 minutes of making it there will be no fee. It was my mistake of calling the driver to figure things out rather than immediately cancelling since the pin location was wrong (still have no idea why it changed to some random location). Lesson learned and glad Uber made amends. They'll keep me as a customer after all. Original Review: So, I set the pickup location (my job, a preloaded work pin that I've used twice before), request a driver, have it accepted, only to see the pin has changed to a different location (for some unknown reason) far from where I'm at. I call the driver (Keon) to let him know the pin location is wrong and asked him how I can either change it or let him know where I'm actually at. He's barely responsive and I get long silences and grunts, finally given an "I dunno." I figured I best cancel it since this guy is lost and nowhere near where I'm at, and clearly can't help me. I GET CHARGED A $5 FEE. This was my third time using Uber and I had been talking up that it was a great service, but the app messes up, the driver is unhelpful and now I'm getting charged for it? Not to mention that the next driver who accepted my request took nearly 20 minutes to get to me (even though the app said 9 minutes) because he was on the freeway going in the opposite direction when there were several drivers closer. First I was quoted a price of less than $10 for my ride six miles away at 10:00 a.m. Not exactly a peak or bust time. After I got home, my receipt was for over $25. No explanation. Went online and finally found something about Surge pricing hidden well out of sight, (when there's a high demand in the area they now triple the fee without warning). Nothing else fit so I'm assuming that's it. But no mention of Surge pricing was made at the time I booked the ride, only saw the hike after they issued the receipt after I got home. Also found out that there's no phone number for general customer support. There's also no email for general customer support. The in-app Help section doesn't allow you to report this particular problem because there's no category for it and you have to choose a category when reporting an issue. Been using Uber for years, this is something relatively new, a sneaky way to rip off customers for triple the fee with no warning. Now when so many people are suffering economically. Bryan, the Uber driver who told me to cross a busy street because it was easier for him to pick me up, was awful. I was in Balboa Island, in front of Wilmas patio. He did not know where to pick me up. Then he said that I did not put my info into the app. He then asked me where was my hotel and if I had cash. I got out of the car and called Lyft. For the entire stay in Southern CA I used Lyft and found all of the drivers wonderful. I think that this Uber driver should be fired. My driver and car etc were great! I request a two stop ride. Arrived at first destination and my friend continued on to second stop with no problem. I received a message saying thanks for riding and I had a discount. The next day I added a tip for the driver. I received a thank you for tipping message with the amount. Got message from PayPal as my account is set up to pay through them saying I had the charge Uber sent receipt for of original amount. Then got another message with an additional charge of $80. That was in addition to the original quoted and receipted charge. Of course you can't call and speak to anyone. They have a section for issues but only through email. No supervisors available. They removed the original charge of $22 but not the $80 for a 20 mile ride. Gave different explanations for the $80 and refused to admit it could have been an error. I certainly would never have agreed to that amount for a 20 mile ride from Newport Beach to Anaheim. That was more than I paid to go to LAX with Uber. Very disappointed with their customer service and I will be using Lyft instead. read more

Tonight I ordered an Uber at 5:45 with a pickup estimated for 10 minutes. At 6:30 the Uber driver was nowhere to be found. He could not find my location which was on a major thoroughfare. I called him, he insulted me, told me to cancel the ride. To add insult to injury I was then charged a cancellation fee. Of course there's no way to provide feedback directly to Uber. One of your drivers just tried to cut me off, almost crashed into me, and then proceeded to pull up next to me, rolled down his window, and cuss me out until traffic began moving. This happened today around 6pm on Imperial Blvd in Brea right next to the 57 North on-ramp. He is African American and drives a black SUV. I was not able to get his license plate number as his car was next to me, but I would be able to identify him from a photo. This blatant road rage and disrespect needs to be addressed!!!!!!
