After an initial quote of $26 from Santa Ana Airport to Laguna Beach, I ended up being charge $34+ An unexplained $7.61 was charged to my trip under "Toll Rd" as well a $3.50 toll. Back and forth with Uber they could not or would not explain the $7.61 charge. The highest toll on the actual toll road is $3.50. We drove through one ($3.50 listed)! Either Uber or the driver are adding extra charges with no explanation, which is basically stealing from the public. I wanted to put zero stars but had to add one to post this review. I'll be using Lyft from now on read more

For me it was a nightmare. Small town girl looking to get from the hotel to airport in a big city of Fullerton. The ride was around but called me and told me to come to them. I even messaged them on the form "I received tax documents but never drove for uber" and they still wouldn't help! My sister used it but canceled (which she rarely cancels) her ride and got charged the 5$ fee which is fine but then charged her the actual 45$ amount a little over a month later for the ride she never took. When she tried to contact they just message through the Uber just repeatedly asking for more information after she has sent all the screenshots of the charges and her ride history they still message her asking for more information only.No way to call or email. Bank says they can't help because they already put a claim and apparently Uber has proven somehow that she took that ride. Stay away! read more

Gift cards are often useful for people that don't want to divulge their credit card information to out of the country sellers like UBER. WARNING! DO NOT BUY UBER GIFT CARDS! The minimum rating I could pick is 1 star, zero stars was not an option. I bought a couple of $50 giftcards at the beginning of the year. I used the first one OK. I recently tried the second one and got an error message that the Gift Code had already been applied to someone elses UBER account. I did online cat with UBER Customer Support and they advised me that UBER doesn't refund Lost and Stolen cards. Excuse me? My card was not Lost or Stolen and I uploaded pix of my card and purchase receipt to UBER Customer Support to prove that I am the rightful owner and the card is in my possession. They asked for a screenshot of the error message that pops up when I enter the Giftcard Code and I provided the screenshot. Beats me why they need that becuase they already told me that the card was redeemed to another account and gave me the account holders first name. I suggested that they debit that person's account and reimburse me. I haven't heard back so I think they are probably ignoring me now. Do not ride with Uber they have been a complete nightmare and no way of contacting these people no customer service not even by email. Uber has been running amok on my bank acct making false charges for 3 days straight. I cancel my debit card but Uber was still able to access my new debit card even before I had gotten my new card. It was unbelievable how they had access to my new card even before I had access to it. It's been beyond infuriating to say the least. Uber doesn't even deserve 1 star this company is from hell!!! Gave Uber hospital entrance address. Driver got off at wrong exit and did not know how to navigate one way streets so he let me off at the McDonalds 1 block away. I'm 75 years old with a walker and it took me 1/2 hour to reach the entrance, with great physical pain. Uber would not refund my $16.00 fare but admitted the driver was wrong. This is just plain bad judgement and totally wrong. I needed transport twice since, and on someone's suggestion called Flash Cab, great driver who uses common sense. Uber not only messed up my pickup location, but also my dropoff location. As I was heading to the airport, it was highly stressful to not only have to wait an additional ten minutes getting picked up, but then to be told by the driver that the destination he has in his GPS is a random road that is definitely not John Wayne Airport. After pulling up my own GPS to get to the airport, I check my receipt and notice that I've been charged $15 instead of $9. Uber said this happens when the dropoff location or distance traveled or whatever isn't what was originally projected. I had to pay for this difference, despite the fact that it is Uber's software's fault for messing everything up. I clearly selected John Wayne Airport (SNA) from the dropoff locations, but apparently that has multiple meanings for Uber's software system. Anyway, customer service was completely unhelpful. I don't plan on using Uber again as they stress you out, rip you off, and just don't care. read more

I used to enjoy uber until I encountered Customer Service (if you can call it that) They do everything by email and I think all they do is spend pre-written responses that are vaguely close to the question. On 4/16/17 at about 8:47 pm, I was driving home with my pregnant fiance and 9 year old son. We were driving northbound on Placentia ave crossing Bastanchury rd in Placentia, CA while a driver heading southbound on Placentia ave start flashing his high beam lites at me over and over. The reason for this, is because mine were on due to one of the regular lites going out. I was the only one on my side, and he was the only driver on his side. After about five repeated flashes, the driver on the opposite side swerved over into my lane with his brights on playing chicken, then swerved back only to come to a red light at the intersection of Placentia/Bastanchury. I immediately made a quick u turn to get his plates, and when I got up to him, he had Uber Stickers on his window. He decided to turn right and so did I. As I sped up next to him, he again swerved into my lane and nearly clipped my car causing me to almost hit the curb, then he made an abrupt left turn into a neighborhood. I was not able to get his license plate number. We made many attempts to search for a contact phone number to Uber, but there is none that either answer, or allow you to leave a message. The only way we could find is go to an actual past fare through an app, to file a complaint. We did find a place to leave an email message, but so far, Uber has mad no attempt to contact us by phone or email reply. I attempted to call for an Uber to see if I could get the description of the car with license number, but of course he logged out and didn't show up. Uber.....contact me please. Uber as a driver has been horrible for me. They lie to get people to sign up. Claim there are great programs for new drivers and then go back on there word after the make all the money. I don't know what is going on with Uber, but tonight 5 different drivers for some reason significantly increased their fares over the "estimated fare" after committing to the trip. "If you're a sheep herder and there's a snake taking away your sheep, what do you do to the snake?" At one point, the answer would have been "you kill the snake." But remember, this is a modern day litigious era we're talking about here, so... "It's simple. If you're a sheep herder and a snake is killing your sheep, you just need to have the snake get sued for sexual misconduct." There's been a campaign to instill fear into the public by smearing Uber drivers as dangerous and even criminal. Of course, every occupation has some bad apples (think of scandals involving teachers, priests, the military, doctors, and heaven forbid even politicians). But, from my primarily relevant to the consumer experience, I've used Uber about 30 times and have never had a negative (or scary) experience. No drivers have transmitted Ebola to me, or tried to grab my ass. Even if I end up with a negative episode or 2 down the road, I still like those odds better than the alternative. Some think I shouldn't even be allowed to use the service though. They've tried to demonize it. They've tried to ban it. Mimsy: Hey I got an idea! Why don't you guys just make your cars cleaner and nicer, and try to be better to your customers so that you can compete with Uber's popularity in the marketplace? While Uber drivers come from many walks of life, the thing most that I've encountered share in common is that they're service-oriented as they want to retain your business. Some do it for a living, some do it to make extra money, and some do it because they enjoy it, like Matthew McConaughey: "I've been driving an Uber since long before anyone paid me to drive one. I didn't do it to be cool, I didn't do it to make a statement...I just liked it." OVERVIEW/TIPS -the Uber app can be downloaded on your phone (link payment to your PayPal or credit card) -click where you are on the map (or enter address to search) to get picked up -you get a confirmation with the name of the person picking you up (w/ pic), type of vehicle, license plate, how many minutes away they are, etc. -it's typically anywhere from 1 to 15 minutes of wait time (you can watch their car on the app map to see where they're at as they get closer) -you get a receipt emailed after and can also rate your driver on the app NOTES ON WHAT TO USE IT FOR IN OC -my friends and family all love me now (I used to be despised by all), cuz I never need to hit them up for a ride to the John Wayne Airport anymore. It's much cheaper for me to take Uber than a cab. However, if you have a 7am flight, there won't be any cars operating in the area yet -Uber drivers are more prevalent in areas with an active night life (i.e. where people end up in a DRUNKEN STUPOR). They seem to be consistently hanging around the Peninsula and certain parts of East Side Costa Mesa. Not as prevalent in Downtown HB as I'd expect yet, but I'd surmise that will change in due time This sounds all well and good, but what about the impact that this service is having on those nice poor ol' cabbies? Mimsy: D'uh maybe if they're that incompetent we shouldn't be tryin' to save their jobs. Maybe Uber is a kind of economic natural selection, where the more diligent workers are weeding out the useless ones. Drrrrr. read more

First time. Driver name: Ashok. Car: white Toyota Corolla. Pick up Claim Jumper, destination was home. Mind you this trip is PAID FOR ALREADY. App uploaded, gave cc info. Daughter used her man's cc for verify. Requested pickup, told car 6 minutes away, card charged. Waiting outside restaurant for Uber driver Ashok. Saw him pull into parking lot, saw him call cell to let us know he's arrived. Walk to car, he says my daughter's name, she answers, then says "no". Both my daughter & her man are confused, what does he mean, no? He then Acts like he doesn't understand English ( anymore), so I step up to car to ask him if he's saying he doesnt want to take my daughter & I home. "Yes that's right" he says. I ask why, he shrugs his shoulders ( disrespect) & acts like he doesn't get what I'm saying. He slowly drives away. Seconds later, my daughter's boyfriend's cc is charged a cancel fee of $5! Nonsense. Rude ( discriminatory). Thievery. If you don't understand English, Ashok, how are you driving? Extremely poor representation of uber. Then to report it as customer cancel -uber guidelines states if customer cancels after driver waits 5 minutes- which DID NOT HAPPEN-to erroneously charge card anyways. Fraudulent. Uber has become the answer to cheap priced yet safer method of getting around, especially if you're one that gets inebriated knowing you'll have to drive. Play it the safe way and use Uber. Your wallet and maybe your career will thank you for it later! Uber is becoming ever more popular amongst Los Angelenos, as well as everybody else! You download the app, store your debit card information and from there, you can request a ride from wherever you are to wherever the heck you choose. Ubwr gives you the option of choosing luxury vehicles, as well as Uber pool, which gives the rider/s an option of splitting the cost of the ride. Within minutes, your driver arrives. The few times I have used it, I have never had to wait too long for my ride. Most drivers have snacks or water bottles to offer you. You'll get your occasional silent driver. Other times you may get your chatty catty! I like to chat up a firestorm with any driver I get. Please take advantage of using Uber. With checkpoints becoming more common during the weekends nowadays, as well as police saturation patrols, Uber is the safest way of knowing you'll have fun but make it home safe and sound, without any incidents. read more

I have been having major problems with Uber. I use Uber to go to work EVERY day which is only a three mile ride. Last week a driver missed the exit and I asked to stop the charge since he was taking me off course from HIS mistake. He then yelled at me and said for me to get out of the car on the side of the road. I had to plea with him to take me to work and I ended up being late for work and got in trouble. I reported it to Uber and they did nothing but grant me $5 credit. Since when does a $5 credit take away the treatment from the driver, being late to work and getting me in trouble? I have figured out the best route and been taking it ever since and doesn't go above $6 and a few pennies, ever. Today I had a driver start the trip and drive around my complex before I got into the car. I know this because on my APP well before I got into the car it said my trip has began and I am on my way. I thought my app was wrong and didn't mention it. I arrived at work and got got the text verifying this guy certainly WAS driving around and in my book that is not only stealing but that is straight evil. I reported this incident to Uber by email and got no response and no effort to fix my experiences. I don't even want to spend my time reporting all the other events of the drivers Uber carries. Since I have been using them for several weeks going to work I have seen many drivers. I HIGHLY recommend to NOT use their service. They obviously hire malicious and dirty drivers who have tempers and I am sorry but I do not feel safe anymore using these people. I say go with their competitor because when I used them I NEVER had this experience. Only reason why I switched to Uber is due to the TIP being included but it is so not worth the $1 or $2 I tipped with the other provider. I am disgusted by companies ripping off Americans when I fought for this country and get treated like this? Really? UBER is a joke and a scam. Not sure where they find their drivers, they probably recruit them from Prison. read more

I'm not sure how uber calculates there cost to request a driver from LAX to Garden Grove. The uber app shows $50 to $66 for the ride and the driver takes 10 to 15 minutes to get to the LAX at the new pick up/drop off location. Over all at the end of the trip it cost me $92.00 plus a tip. Something is not adding up right and uber is adding additional cost to cover up there losses. Not going to use uber anymore for taxi services. 5/23/20 read more

From the first review: "there is no awkwardness of a tip as the charge is inclusive of everything" Wrong! Tips are not included. It is service industry so tip your driver cash. This is how you keep a 5 star rating and drivers won't cancel on you because of your behavior. I know a driver in my family so when I tell you that tips are not included (as some and Uber want you to think), it isn't BS. The rate in OC is only $.90 a mile plus $.18 a minute which is less than minimum wage (or right at it after Uber's cut) so don't have them wait for you or go into long drivethru windows. Just enjoy the cheap fare and watch out for surges! Everyone here complaining could have checked their app for pricing when it surges. It sucks and it isn't drivers fault but Uber. Use it and know that it is better than being in a stinky cab! Good luck to all.... read more

Every single time I've taken an Uber out in OC area, I've had a terrible driver. One time I was getting picked up from a friends house after feeling ill from a long night of drinking. The driver must have sensed this and proceeded to drive like a mad man back to my girlfriend's apartment. Great... because if he thought I was going to hurl beforehand he solidified it by driving like that! Regardless, I managed to keep the contents of my stomach in and made it out just fine. Another time the drive picked me up when I was alone and drove me back to my car from across town (I wanted to leave early and head home). This guy proceeded to "20 questions" me the entire time! It was awkward. He dropped me off finally and then asked if he could call me sometime... Uh no thanks dude. You're just my Uber ride. I didn't take a ride home from a dude at the bar just to avoid THIS EXACT confusion. I say ride at your own risk. Or at the very least, don't ride alone ladies. read more

as I'm leaving my review on Uber's account I am reading NUMEROUS posts about info being hacked from Uber's servers and fraudulent charges being charged. With #uber again doing nothing! #deleteuber #deletetheapp Also I wanted to update - Uber has an "Emergency line" which apparently is only meant if you were murdered or raped in an Uber. Yet it clearly states if you were murdered or raped please dial 911. Uber does not consider your passports left in a Uber with said passports being needed for travel in less then 24hours an emergency. God forbid someone leaves their life saving medications in an Uber. You would be dead! The "ER phone number" basically does nothing! #rideatyourownrisk I am writing this in hopes my friends and family will get this to go #viral. It may be a longshot but if I can help anyone else then I figure its worth a try. A week ago a family member flew into LAX and took an #Uber to Redondo. Unloaded all their luggage and as soon as the driver pulled away they realized their backpack was left in the car. They immediately tried to chase the car to no avail. This bag contained a lot of money, a lot of jewelry, and passports. They immediately contacted Uber and went thru the motions put in place by uber. Hours go by and nothing is heard from Uber. Family members went to uber locations to ask for help or if anything was turned in, only to be met with rudeness and a lack of caring. Police was called, everything you can think of we tried. Meanwhile #Uber did nothing!!! Let me repeat that NOT ONE SINGLE PERSON HELPED US!!! No one even called back to let my family know the driver responded and claims he never saw the bag. Hours into a phone call my husband made to #Uber, someone finally said an email was sent and the driver said he never saw it. #Uber couldn't even call to let us know that. #Uber has by far the worse customer service EVER. Let's be real accidents happen traveling can be nerve-racking, there is no good reason not one person at uber couldn't place a phone call to the driver in a timely manner. One phone call and all of this could have been avoided. I don't know if it was the driver that stole everything or the following passengers he had in his car, but what I do know is uber DID NOTHING!!!! At this point, I do have concerns with riding with them knowing they DO NOT LOOK OUT FOR THE CUSTOMERS! #Uber protects uber and the drivers only! Although I am clearly extremely Norwegian in nearly every respect, my mother was, in fact, a Deutschlander, so it should come as no surprise that any service named "Uber" would have immediate and lasting appeal for me. It could be "Cruella deVille's Coat Factory Outlet Store", but if you gave it a name with guttural vowels and harsh consonant sounds like "Schottzie", I would be the first in line to buy a coat! Uber speaks to me...and resonates for more than just name alone (although I feel a little like Dr. Strangelove when I say "Uber"...and I have to suppress an involuntary salute every time I write "Uber")..."Uber"...shudder. So being a fan of nearly all things mobile, I signed up, loaded the app and began Ubering all over myself! I don't drink anymore (and it's been many, many years since I found myself lying prone on the ground, holding on to keep from falling off the world), but that doesn't mean that the Beautiful Carin and I don't appreciate getting a ride somewhere...we do! When we head out for dinner, head off to a party, head over to John Wayne Intergalactic Spaceport or just want to go shopping at one of our wonderful, jam-packed and parking challenged malls (at least at this time of year), we just "Uber", Uber Alles! In a few minutes (so far, they have never missed a time or location) a clean, well-maintained econobox (if you're cheaping out),or a town car or an SUV shows up and Blitzkreig...you're on your way! Yay! Uber already has your credit card and while you can tip if you wanna, the drivers aren't aggressively asking (in fact, I haven't had one driver even hint at a tip yet...unlike every cabbie I have ridden with over the decades). It's an easy and delightful way to get around when you're out on the town, or even when you're just headed down to that Christmas Party on Harbor Island and you: A. Don't want to fight the traffic yourself and; B. Prefer to arrive in a Black Escalade the way that the rest of the swells attending the soiree arrive...hey, I'm just as vain as the next Newport Beachian. To sweeten the dealio, Uber...sorry, my involuntary salute kicked in for a minute...gives you a discount on your first ride and discounts for people that you refer to them...so let's keep this going! So far, Uber is orders of magnitude better than the other taxi and car service providers, even if only for the flexibility they offer in car types and usage fees! Load up the app, tap the icon and Uber on over to Der Weinerschnitzel for a holiday feast (that's where we are holding the Donald S. Holiday Extravaganza this year). Oh, and don't forget to use me as your referral for the Uber app...I'm just about out of free rides! read more

Ive used it more than once unlike a lot of these poor reviews and each time it was cheaper and in my humble opinion "nicer" of a ride than cabs, since most of these reviews do compare it to cabs. Also my ride has ALWAYS arrived within 10 minutes with NO reservation, you can't beat that! Ethics? Really? It's a transportation service, if we're going to talk about ethics why doesn't everyone just stop using Apple products because of the oversea assembly line conditions they subject their employees to. The Uber driver's explanation is "it is now peak time so the price goes up that's how Uber makes more money" or " you can wait till the peak time has passed." Uber has lost my business. I didn't get a credit back or anything; I only received a excerpt of the policy and they marked my dispute solved.
