We had a great experience with Uber during our trip to Montreal. We got where we needed to go quickly, safely, and at affordable prices. Also, the cars that we rode in were generally new (or on the newer side), nice, and clean. Rideshare experiences can vary from city to city and from ride to ride, but overall, I can't see any reason to give our Uber experience in Montreal less than five stars. All of our rides were five stars. During our visit, Uber was the only rideshare option in Montreal. There was no Lyft or competing service. However, I read that Lyft should be coming to Montreal soon. Lyft may already be up and running in Montreal by the time you read this. At the time of writing this review, Lyft is only available in Canada in Toronto, Ottawa, and Vancouver. Despite Uber not having any rideshare competition in Montreal, the fares were still reasonable. It also helped that we were visiting from the US where the American dollar is stronger. All of my rides were short trips, roughly 2 kilometers each (about 1.24 miles), and all cost less than $9 Canadian before tip. On each of my rides, the base fare was $1.90 plus time, distance, a booking fee (previously known as the safe rides fee), a Quebec operation fee, and taxes (GST and QST). All rides were subject to a $6.80 minimum. If your subtotal (base fare + time + distance) plus booking fee didn't add up to $6.80, you had to pay the difference, then pay the Quebec operation fee and taxes on top of that. After all that, tip. You should always tip. I used the Uber app for Android and had no problems. The app was very easy to use. There were plenty of drivers and they showed up fast. Uber sent me a detailed receipt/trip summary after every ride which I found useful. If I find myself back in Montreal, I wouldn't hesitate to use this service again. read more

Uber won't drive to destination I called two separate ubers to get a lift home from downtown Montreal. I used the app to choose the ride, putting my destination in the appropriate window. Each driver accepted my request, showed up a few minutes later to pick me up. When I got in they asked me my destination. I repeated the same address as I had already put into the Uber app. Both drivers told me they refused to drive to my destination. Why would I waste my time waiting for a ride that won't take me where I need to go? One of the drivers explained to me that the drivers don't know the destination of their customers until they pick them up and ask them, which is for the customers safety. How is leaving me stranded without a ride home helping me stay safe exactly? The driver also told me that he has the right to deny giving me a lift. Maybe Uber should deny the lift before accepting my request for a ride to my destination and asking me to wait for the ride that will inevitability reject my request and kick me back out on the street corner. I used to only take cabs/taxis when I needed a ride in Montreal but when I called for a taxi to the airport and was told that they were sending a taxi and they never did and when I called the taxi company back, they had no record of me calling them and told me that they would send a taxi. By the time the taxi arrived and drove me to the airport, I was too late to board my flight. In terms of Uber, I order it on my phone's app and the driver shows up and I can track the driver's location so there isn't any mishaps like what I experienced with a taxi. I also see the route that the driver will take me when I key in my destination so if the driver strays off the suggested route from my app, it is an example of long hauling and I will immediately question them about it. Payments are also done by credit card unlike Montreal taxis which are supposed to accept credit cards but give you hassles when you try to pay by credit card. The only reason I'm rating them 2 instead of higher is because their support isn't good. I had an issue with their UberEats platform and tried to contact them and it is next to impossible (they have a page telling you how to solve the issue but when what stated on the page doesn't work, you have no way to contact them). Their UberEats app interface is also confusing especially the tipping option. I tipped during the ordering process and then when the person delivered my meal, there was another option of tipping and I wasn't sure whether this was just to confirm my earlier tip amount or whether I was tipping in addition to the earlier amount that I already tipped when placing the order. I saw a link for their Facebook page and clicked on that and their Facebook chat is useless. They send me a link asking me to leave them a note but the URL that they give me brings me to a page where there isn't any place to leave them a note. I tell them this on Facebook chat and it is like they didn't read my reply and just resend me the same URL link telling me to leave them a note. After they managed to send me the correct form/website that I complete. They send me an email and when I reply to the email, they appear as if they aren't reading my reply and just copying/pasting what they say I owe them on their platform. I sent them a screenshot of my UberEats receipt asking them to explain the charge that they say I owe them since my UberEats receipt shows that I'm paid off and they instead just reply to the email stating how much I owe them on their platform. read more

Uber in Canada, with a strong US dollar compared to a weaker Canadian dollar makes for some inexpensive rides. I did quite a few, since it was way faster than taking the shuttle from the hotel back to the airport and then the bus from the airport to downtown. Quicker, more comfortable and really not that much more expensive. All of my drivers were great and even if they didn't speak perfect English, they spoke great English. Some interesting and fun conversations about Montreal and travel. And for Pierre, who was paying amazing attention when a white Lexus decided he needed to be where we were driving, thanks! read more

Very disappointed in uber Canada for their fraudulent business practices concerning not disclosing cancellation fees and always telling you your ride is five minutes away. Their ride estimator is a fraud and so is the 5 dollar fee they tell you you must pay if you cancel only after you try to cancel not when you engage the ride. I'll be disputing it with my credit card company. Erasing the app and recommending everybody never to use your service. I emailed you twice and your response was unsatisfactory and bordering on offensive. Truly a disgrace! Update... while I was flying back to Miami I got a second email response from the second email I sent and hey did refund the money. I shouldn't have to threaten to delete the app and dispute the charge with my credit card company to get my money back though. I could have easily missed my flight this morning from Montreal if I had relied on uber to pick me up and not have canceled the pick up. The ride estimator said 5 minutes the whole time. I had to cancel and take a cab. I'm kind of wary of uber now. Usually it's illegal to not disclose a cancellation fee for a service until you try to cancel. It's certainly unethical. I have nothing but good things to say about my experience with Uber while on vacation in Montreal. Each time we used it the driver showed up quickly, and the costs seemed in-line with the fare estimates on the ap. A few times the final fee seemed lower. I'm not complaining. We used it mainly when wanting to go back to the hotel after a night out eating and drinking in the Old Montreal area, and were too lazy and bloated to walk back. An $6-$8 Uber ride was so worth it in those instances. Honestly, it beat driving our own car and dealing with parking hassles. Made our vacation time there a bit easier. read more

I love Uber in most places I travel. I may even continue to use uber in Montreal. But be warned. The cars are all dirty, the drivers rarely speak good English, and the quality of service is terrible. Tonight I arrived at the airport. I requested a ride. The estimate of arrival was way off and the driver took off. Problem is he was charging the ride. So I called him. He picked up the "wrong passenger". Claimed he would cancel the ride and it would be okay. I got a charge of $12. Requested the next driver. He pulls up. But ignores me. Apparently too cold to lower the window and ask if I am his ride and too cold to get out and open the trunk. I complained and he canceled the ride. Love my third driver. Great guy. I ordered my food from uber eats and i haven't received my food. when i contacted uber help regarding my order, they told me that it cant be refunded or they can't do anything from their side. Reason they stated was that my order is not eligible for a refund they charged me around 25 cad for a meal. This is a very bad experience for me. I have used Uber in several cities and FINALLY we have Uber here in Montreal, YAY, *happy dance* I take cabs a lot and at fairly strange hours. Being the scatterbrain that I am, I often forget if I have cash on me or not and by the time a taxi got to my place or I was almost at the airport, I realised that I had no cash on me and the driver did not accept cards, this sucks...especially at 4:30am! So thanks to Uber, I was able to scan my credit card and be up and running in less than 3 minutes. I can call a car at any time and it comes with an estimate of how many minutes until it is at my door. The app lets you see where exactly the car is en route which is awesome, cause no one likes standing around out front in the howling wind unsure of when the car will be here as you don't want to miss it. You can call an Uber with friends and split the costs between you all with one click and tips are included, so even if you are hammered and spilling out of the cab, you don't have to worry: was I a cheap mofo and not tip the guy orrrr did I give that guy a 50$?? Anyhow, Uber makes life easier, expenses a breeze to pass along to your employer and it just makes you look cooler than everyone else, feels like you have your own chauffeur even though it's just a regular taxi. read more

I've only used Uber once, after I called in for a cab.and asked for a fixed price to the airport. I was given a ridiculous number and a "maybe" along with it. Let's not forget a crazy 1 hour wait because of "rush hour". I installed UBER some time back and I told myself.. why the hell not? I opened the app, provided my destination and was given a number that was significantly lower than I was quoted elsewhere. Intrigued, I hailed the cab and I was inside of it within 15 minutes! I confirmed my fare with the driver and I sat back. I was comfortable in a spacious sedan, the driver was polite and friendly. I got to the airport without any issues. Once there my rate was respected and I was very impressed with the entire experience. Did I mention you can track the taxi? Amazing. Yah I have to admit, I really appreciate this service and use it a lot, in a lot of cities and at weird hours. I typically stick to Uber Taxi but I have used UberX a bunch, especially in SF, without any issues. It's been buggy once or twice but here are the reasons why I'm a fan: Once I took and Uber with some friends, within 10 minutes of us getting out of the cab I got a message from them that something had been left in the car during our ride. Turns out my friend had lost her wallet and hadn't even noticed yet. The driver circled around and brought it back to her immediately thanks to some help from the Uber customer service. Completely painless. I once checked my online bill and saw that something was screwy, the route and the cost just didn't match up to what had happened. I replied to the receipt email, got an answer within minutes that they'd look into it, and had it refunded before the end of the day. Often I get into an Uber taxi and have conversations with the drivers about the service. In Montreal they seem to always say that Uber riders are more chill then a regular fare, because they can follow on their GPS and trust the route taken. They also all seem to deeply resent UberX, which makes sense when they have to pay hundreds of thousands of dollars to drive a legit cab and the UberX system circumvents that. But when I asked: if you were starting now, would you pay into the old system or drive with UberX? They mostly agree they would like to avoid paying hundreds of thousands of dollars for the right to drive cab. Maybe Uber should set up a system to buy back these old debts from the best drivers? Anyway - it's a complicated question, but I'll tell you this for sure: to be able to travel in strange cities or even in my own city, to click a button, see a driver coming to get me with a star rating and a photo, be able to watch the route he or she takes to get me where I need to go, then jump out and not worry about handling cash, and know my standard tip is being applied... it's been a huge relief. read more

Sure most of the times I use my bike or the metro but when you need to get to the airport early in the morning/late at night or when family is visiting and you are in one corner of the city and need to get to the other than you realy appriciate the power of Uber. The problem is that you dont have enough Uber in MTL, and none from the airport to the city. After trying Uber once I was immediately hooked and now it's the only way I take a cab. I love the fact that everything is electronic and it gets charged to your credit card because you don't have to worry about making sure you have enough cash on you when you get in the cab. You are also given your driver's name and contact information which can be mighty useful at times. On one Uber trip my phone fell out of my purse in the cab but I was able to get in touch with the driver and I had it back 15 minutes later. If you're taking it during peak periods (ex. Saturday night) you might have a tough time getting a cab but that only happened to me once. Usually they come quickly if you're in a centrally-located neighbourhood (Downtown, Plateau, etc). You cannot get Uber at the airport though from my understanding. I also have only ever used Uber Taxi so I have no comments on how it compares to UberX. read more

My account suddenly stops working cause one csr agent AFTER OUR CALL decides to send me an email saying my 2 accounts are now merged even if I never requested that. Now I keep on calling customer service and they say I will get a link to redo the background check (never received a link) then Some agents say I need to complete an online training. They send me a link for the training that NEVER WORKS! Plus they say they have to hang up the call before sending a like so I always need to call again and again. This has been going on for weeks and I'm very dissapointed. I always request a manager (as always they say he will call you today he's in a reunion) and I never get a call. Uber... i heard a lot about this company. I can say for sure this was a great experience. The waiting time is a bit long but it got me to my rendez vous point in ten minutes without any hassles. The driver was extremely nice and I didn't need to pay anything upfront because they charged on my credit card online. I love how the application show me a picture of who my driver is going to be and how long it will take for my ride to come. They even have this cool car picture direction to let me know when he is near. I find this company a lot safer than any taxis ride (I ride a lot of taxis here in montreal). I've used Uber for 2 years now and am impressed by the service given by the drivers and how well the cars are maintained. I have to go to the Glen and General hospitals regularly and estimate I've saved over $500 in the 2 years. Uber tends to be 20 to 25% less expensive than taxis. The driver rating system helps guarantee pleasant attitudes and the part timers often do it as much for the conversation as the money. One of my favourite drivers is a retired local guy and does it because he enjoys it. I've never had a dangerous driver. I can't say the same for cab drivers. read more

I have used Uber all over the US and am happy to hear it is here in Montreal ! My destinations are easy (ie: go to the airport) but if you don't know where you are going and depend on a driver to find (ie: like in a regular cab), you might have a challenge there as Uber drivers may not all have GPS or know every nook and cranny of the city like cabs do. But the app rocks...it immediately knows where you are and how long a uber car will be there. Only problem is that for some reason all rates say 'Metered' even though the destination is clear. I think because there may not be enough Uber signed on drivers in Montreal yet and they will just send a cab. Every Uber driver so far has been courteous and nice and helpful...they want this to work! Compare with some tax drivers who just look like they hate their job. And the cashless system is great too...everything is handled without needing to carry cash...its GREAT ! All I can say is try it once or twice ...and see for yourself. I have to admit, when one of my friends told me about Uber, and how total strangers can give you rides for a fraction of the price taxi cabs charge, I was pretty creeped out. I thought to myself: damn, how the hell is this supposed to be safe?? Who would be stupid enough to risk themselves and get in a car with a total stranger that isn't a cab? Still, I decided to do a bit of research on the app and found that it had amazing reviews. That being said, being an 18 year old girl who spends basically almost half of her salary on cabs, I decided to try it on for myself, with a friend, coming back from a club. I got rapped :( JUST KIDDING! The app was super, super easy to use, and I LOVED how you could contact your driver whenever you wanted to make sure he/she was there on time! The driver we had was EXTREMELY friendly, talkative and FAST, and had a GREAT sense of orientation! I got to my house in 25 minutes and only spent 23$ from Downtown, Montreal to St-Laurent!! Normally it would cost me 55$ tip included!! I took it again a second time, and I was not disappointed at all, however, my destination was a little further, so it cost me 32$, but it would've probably been 60$ with a cab!! Last night I selected a ride in UberX and was charged the fare for UberSelect (which is almost double), when I acquired about it, the customer service team dismissed me swiftly and refused to offer any sort of adjustment. Very bad experience in Montreal, I called for a uber in Montreal because the weather was very cold, the trip was only a few blocks away, as I did not know the address of the destination I did not add it but the system allowed me to call the vehicle, when The driver arrived, I got into the vehicle and on the trip, the route disappeared from my cell phone, and I did not know the description of the trip anymore, I asked the driver, and he told me to pay him something because the company would not charge because they did not have information of the trip, feeling bad I told him that I would pay him $ 10 dollars, and that he would take $ 5 as a tip, the driver took me to the address and my surprise was the next day when my card had charges for the trip, the $ 10 dollars that the driver told me to pay and the $ 5 tip, the driver and the company probably both know well what happened but they don't care because they are making money, e-mail customer service to explain what happened and the person who always answered responded that the charges were correct and that everything was correct, then later they deleted the name of the driver from my app on my phone. It's time for the Uber experiment to end. There is too much of the new gig economy that is based on scamming. In my experience, about 60% of the Uber interaction will be a problem for you. Our latest adventure started when a the driver picked up up to take our dog to the daycare. We covered the seat with a large blanket and she lay down with her head hanging off of the seat. Not only were we charged surge pricing without being informed, but we were then assessed a $50 cleaning fee for a stain that was a foot-and-a-half away from where she was lying. So the driver is simply charging random fees or sending Uber pictures from random cars (since we checked the seats before we exited and saw no such stain). When we brought her home the next day, we took a local Bonjour cab and paid the same price as we had for the Uber (minus the $50 scam charge). So this is the endgame, isn't it? A service like Uber that promised efficiency and low cost (I didn't mention that we waited at the airport last month for an Uber that never showed) has now just turned into an organized fraud that collects random fees and will offer no resolution. Time to just use taxis again. Same price, faster service, no scams on your credit card. They have a cool free rides promotion - you get a free ride if you use a code from a friend mine is offerr1ue - feel free to use it (we'll both benefit)! Uber is great when there's enough available cars in your area. However - that usually overlaps with high availability of cabs. I like their price estimates - it's good to know in advance! It's also easy not to worry about payment since it's charged to your credit card directly. Some say it's not as safe as cabs - but with the Uber rating system I feel very safe to ride with a driver that has good ratings. It's also good for people that leave their stuff behind in the car (easy to get in touch with the driver and retrieve the lost items) - but it never happened to me. We usually take an Uber X, but once we were moving some stuff and got an Uber XL. Whenever I take it I am happy with the service. There are a few downsides too - the Uber navigation software that the drivers use doesn't always take you from the best route. The waiting time estimate can be misleading - and it often takes more time than initially estimated. Sometimes you count on getting an Uber and there aren't cars available, or they hike the prices - to an even higher price compared to a cab. It happened to me when I was counting on an Uber to go to the airport late at night (or early in the morning) and I ended up hailing a cab after walking in the rain to a main street and waiting for a few minutes. Took Uber this morning to go for a 15mn ride from Downtown Montreal to TMR. Requested a first UBERX car, the driver who accepted the ride needed 15 mn to pick me up so as I was in a hurry, I canceled it and within 30 seconds asked for another who could be at my place in 7 mn. The first ride showed a charge of just over CAD18. I was surprised to see my credit card charged CAD 45. as it suddenly happen (within 30 seconds) that the new price reflected a surge in demand and costs 2.6X the normal price. I tried to contact Uber to contest but there is NO WAY to reach anyone by mail or by phone (they make sure you hit a wall!!!!!!) Moreover, the driver said that this is most likely done because you canceled the first ride. I also got charged twice for a ride I did not call for nor made and I got charged numerous times for canceled rides although it happened within a very short time from the booking. THIS IS AN UNETHICAL FIRM AND ITS PRACTICES ARE BORDERLINE FRAUDULENT. We are a family of 4 who use extensively Uber in 3 countries but Uber Canada stands out for its bad practice and unethical behavior. Having used Uber in other cities with success we were disappointed in the service of Uber in Montreal. Some of the drivers cancelled on us just before a surge leaving us to try and find other arrangements. All the cars we rode around in were rusty, dirty and dingy econoboxes past their prime.
