Anyways since I signed up for uber mere 5 months ago I have managed to take 46 rides. Overall it's good, but when it's bad it's really bad -cons ---there are some really really smelly cars ---reckless drivers ---drivers who do not know what they are doing. I.e. One argued with me whether hwy 100 was closed or not. Last year in San Francisco, my co-workers and I used Uber for the first time and a limo picked us up so we could go out to dinner. The second time we used it, a hummer came to drive us back to our hotel. Let's just say that we all had a really great impression of the company, since it was more fun than riding in a cab. When I returned home to 'Sota, I used it here and there to get around town. But it had been six months or so since I last used the service, until tonight when my Lyft app failed to work for some reason. So I hailed an Uber, and it came within a minute. Here's what happended afterwards: -Got in, and told my driver where I needed to go. -Learned that Uber recently lowered its prices and is now cheaper than Lyft. -Rode back home with no problems. -Set me back only $5. I have been a fan of Uber since first using the service in Chicago, and I immediately knew that I would be using Uber on my most recent trip to Minneapolis. Aside from the Metro, I used the UberX service as my primary means of transportation and it was a great experience. For those that do not know, UberX is their low cost option, or more specifically a ride sharing program vs a true taxi or black car service. Prices were fair, during my time using UberX the base fare was $0.60 + $0.23/minute + $1.65 Mile. Still cheaper than a taxi, and that price covers up to 4 riders. One thing that does bother me with Uber is Surge pricing, this happens during peak hours when riders outnumber drivers. It serves as in incentive to get more drives on the road, however it comes at the expense of the customer. However I have to admit even being in town and needing a ride during peak Halloween hours I never noticed Sure pricing being put into place. All of the cars that picked me up were clean, and all the drivers were friendly and many even made some great recommendations. Overall UberX provides low cost transportation via their app along with a fare estimate. I will say that the fare can slightly vary due to path taken and time in traffic, however my experience was that the estimate provided by Uber was pretty much spot on. read more

I've only used this twice, and I'm a total Uber "n00b", but I'm super into it. Like, REALLY into it. It gives you exact time of arrival, you can see the precise location of your driver, you are notified when your driver arrives via text, the drivers are professional - they even hold the doors open for you when they arrive, the cars are clean, the drivers are using mounted iphones to get you to the correct location, tips are pre-factored into the overall cost, you get a photo and name of your driver as well as car type (UberX), and all of the transactions are done online with your account. I only splurge on taking cabs once every couple of months, but after riding Uber for the very first time a few weeks ago, I will never go back to Yellow Cab again. With to-the-corner GPS, Uber's skilled and thoughtful drivers pick you up exactly where you request in fancy towncars (or SUVs), making your ride feel that much more sophisticated - Rick, my funny, well-spoken driver from Saturday literally drove around the block (I tracked it on my Uber app interface) so that he picked me up on the correct corner, ensuring that I didn't have to run out from my covering in the rain to cross the street. Uber drivers hold doors. They offer you whatever you want to listen to during your ride. They give you refreshments. And - best of all - they know Minneapolis. I cannot count the number of times I've given cabbies directions, but Uber drivers don't need to be told. When I said I was going to Smack Shack, I couldn't think of the cross street, but our driver knew immediately what it was and let me know so that I could tell the friends with whom I was meeting. And knowing the license plate of the car picking you up - what a simple but ingenious little trick. I don't have to worry whether I'm snaking someone's cab when I know the name, photo, and rating of the driver coming to get me, and I can watch for the plates of the car so that I know when they arrive. I used Uber to get to Terminal 2 at MSP, and it was fantastic. I ordered my ride via the company's iphone app. I then had instant access to the driver's location and ETA. When the car arrived, a text was sent to my phone so I knew it was time to head out the door. It is great fun to get a ride to the airport in a gleaming black limo. The car was immaculate inside and out, and the driver was personable and professional. When was the last time the prior sentence could also be said of a cab ride? The best part: the fare was on par with taxi rates to the airport, and it was paid automatically (including tip) via the app without any further supervision on my part. There are a few caveats to be aware of when considering Uber for airport transportation. First, the service is "on call," meaning availability is not guaranteed. This was not a concern for me given my departure time, but it is something to keep in mind. Also, at this point Uber is not permitted to pick up at the airport. You'll have to suffer in a cab on the way home. I was so pleased with this experience that I plan to use Uber for other jaunts around town on those occasions when it will be easier/safer/a better idea to leave the driving to someone else. read more

I rely on public transportation and taxi's since I do not have a car. Have taken Uber several times June 2015. Drivers are always exceptionally friendly. Had to take my 30 lbs dog to urgent animal care. I contacted the driver,no problem. Had my pup wrapped in her blanket in my arms. Grateful for Uber Besides fares prices,Uber drivers seem safer to me. They do not speak on cell phones the entire ride,unlike most Twin Cities cab drivers do. I used Uber at least once a week when my car was out of commission. I have to say I find this service nothing short of amazing. I recommend it to EVERYBODY and if not for my car being a year too old to qualify, I would apply to drive with them myself. My husband and I flew into Austin Airport and contracted a ride. We were approaching pick-up area and driver sent message to clarify destination. Once he saw we were traveling to Temple, he cancelled trip despite having accepting trip. It was after 10 pm at night and we had few options and were attending a funeral the next morning. Austin, TX is overcrowded and price for rides is exorbitant so avoid them if you can. To add insult to injury, Uber charged me a cancellation fee. I didn't cancel ride, the driver, Raffael did. I had my daughter take Uber to school. She's taken it before and with no cost problem. They have charged in the past $12.75. This time the driver over charged. He charged her $24.76. The trip was all freeway. About a 8 minutes to get to school from home. I am still trying to get my over charge amount credit back to my account. They keep asking for a trip ID. No were on the receipts does it show an ID number. I have been emailing them and talking to them since last Thursday. This is frustrating to no least. They should have records. I had to update because Uber is so hit and miss!! I've used Uber between five and seven times now, and most of the drivers, cars and prices are just fine. Some are excellent in the way they present themselves: professionally and confidently. They are pleasant (or at least not standoffish) and make me feel safe. Then there are the drivers who show up in dirty cars, can't follow the GPS directions on their phones, swerve in and out of lanes on I-35 and then execute totally illegal driving maneuvers such as reversing on the shoulder of I-35 in order to turn off onto the missed exit. True story. I was totally unimpressed. I reported that last particular incident to Uber management. They were quick to reply and assured me that the issue would be handled. So that's nice, I guess. Be wary of your drivers. I'd recommend cancelling your ride immediately if anything less than 4 stars shows up. You have that option-- use it. read more

My technology-challenged parents are in their late 50's. Still, my mom was able to get a taxi to the airport using the Uber app. She sent me this text message: "First request button press: all cars are busy. 10 seconds later, another press, and Igor was on his way in 15 minutes. Btw, we got the x car, the least expensive, but Igor told us if there was trouble getting a car, the black cars are easier to get, but they cost twice as much. For the most part, I love Uber. Some very nice drivers and they know what they are doing. I get where I'm going quickly. For the other part, I got two drivers, one female, one male.... who pulled up on the wrong side of the street and expected me to cross 1. A busy 3 lane Avenue on a stormy, rainy day. 2. Cross over a busy shopping store drive way to get to THEM with 3 shopping bags and a back pack. Did NOT offer to help. The guy said, who's name is Brandon, "We just drive." I said to him, I'll take the bus. He charged me $5.00 a few seconds later and drove off. I kept the email confirmation. First time I had a "surge" was a shocker. On a Thursday around midnight. I was a couple miles or more from home and it cost me $41.00. Otherwise, Uber has great rates. I will use Uber. I just wish I could pick and choose my driver. read more

Not sure what all the whining is about on here. Uber has always come through, and their prices are always better than a taxi. I don't think I've ever had one issue with these people except one time in Berlin. I was overcharged, but Uber fixed it quickly. Tonight was my first time using Uber. I was originally quite skeptical, but now I'm certain that I'll use Uber again when I need to. My driver arrived within less than two minutes of my request so that was pretty cool. He was very friendly and open. The car was nice and clean. I got home within less than a half hour (which was to be expected). My only concerns were that of the driver. I'm a person who is very wary of cars and he easily got distracted with the GPS and made a few too many abrupt turns. I hope that this isn't the case with other drivers, otherwise safety would be brought into question. Other than that, it was a pleasant experience and I'd recommend giving Uber a try! read more

Uber is an excellent way to get around. I love how quickly a car shows off as soon as I request it. I like the countdown letting me know when the car will arrive. I love the app on my phone. I think it's ingenious to have the credit card on file so that I don't have to have cash or a card with me to pay for it each time. My experience has been the drivers are excellent. I tried to take Uber today. The driver, Micheal, white car, wouldn't come to the address, and instead drove around and around. I told him I was at the corner of 8th and Nicollet, at the Barnes and noble but he said he couldn't find it. He then called me and told me to walk down to 10th and nicolet mall. While we were on the phone, he asked me if I was by myself which, as a woman, really creeped me out. When I got to the car, his license plate was not the same as on his ID. Now at that point, I decided to cancel the trip. He either can't read a map, or was lying for some reason, he was creepy, and his car is misidentified in his Uber profile. read more

Well I rarely make a post like this but I think I need to get this off of my chest. Have you ever used Uber Eats? I used to use it frequently but the service quality has decayed to the point where it is no longer useful which causes me to wonder if this is a common theme across their platforms or if it is unique to the Eats part of it. They have cancelled my orders the last two evenings for a reason that is blatantly falacious. They claim that a resturant known for being open 24/7/365 was closed so they could not make the delivery. As of today I will no longer use their service (in any manner), it looks like Grub Hub and Lyft are going to get my business from now on. read more

Uber is super convenient in that you don't have to deal with cash. HOWEVER, be very wary of the drivers. They will take the longest possible route if you don't keep them on task with very specific with directions. This has happened to me twice now. I am just going to call standard taxi companies in the future. They're much less expensive and far more honest. read more

I've read other reviews and am grateful that at least I have not experienced the random account charges (YET), but after having used Uber 4 times (all in the last 3 weeks), I have only had one really solid experience. I had a friend visiting from Washington State and her mom convinced her we should use Uber instead of busing around during her visit (because I don't drive). We heeded this advice, but the first night that we utilized the service, the Uber driver drove the exact opposite direction of our destination. We were going from Uptown to Longfellow and it was an estimated $7 ride, pretty much a straight shot down Lake Street. However, after I gave the driver our destination address, he began taking a different route and I assumed her perhaps knew a faster way to go. Once it was clear we were not taking some secret back way but instead going determinedly the wrong way, I finally spoke up and directed him to turn around and take Lake. It was actually kind of scary because it was our first time using the service and I wondered where this dude was taking us...he also ignored my advice more than once when suggesting easier routes and even slammed on his breaks and did an illegal U-turn on some random dead-end block that was poorly lit and rather desolate. Needless to say, it was a TERRIBLE experience and I nearly kissed the ground when I got home. While my other negative experiences weren't as bad (basically just more situations in which the driver had no clue - or perhaps, in order to drive up the meter, was pretending to have no clue - where they were going even with my directions + the help of GPS), I did have one positive experience. I should note that while it could be a fluke, the times I had bad experiences were when no other males were present in the vehicle besides the driver. The one GOOD experience I had was with the driver of an Escalade which we requested due to a larger number of people needing to squeeze in. We had gone to the Pride Beer Dabbler and were having folks back at our place for a bonfire after. We had asked the folks working an Uber booth at the event how many people could fit in their SUV service and we were told 7 - which was sort of inaccurate but we made it work. There were 4 women (myself included) and 3 guys + the driver. One of the guys sat up front with the driver, one of the women sat in the middle + one of the guys sat with his girlfriend on his lap in the other middle seat, and the rest of us crammed into the back. The driver was charming, witty, a good driver with an excellent sense of navigation, and even held open doors for us/helped us out of the car! If it were not for him, This would be a one-star rating. read more

Uber I think is supposed to mean above, but I really think they need to rebrand. My first experience with them is also my last. We called for a car, he showed up on time but he needed his GPS for every turn and his GPS seemed to we a wind-up. Once we hit a detour all bets were off. I understand canceling on a driver that is close should have a fee. But a driver that is taking twice the estimated time should allow me to cancel and not be chrarged. Watch out for questionable promo ...I had been using Uber on occasion, found it convenient (tho some of the cars and drivers were a bit dodgy), and talked it up a fair bit.
