I use Uber to take my elderly Mom places in Lakeland Florida. Today after trying to book a ride, that was never confirmed nor showed up on my app, I got a notification that someone was arriving after I had already switched to Lyft. What is most frustrating with Uber is they make it impossible to contact their customer service (which I was unsuccessful today). They also gouge prices (doubling the price) for the same drive. This is a classic example of an innovative company (Uber) having a new idea with some value and then getting beat out by a second adopter (Lyft) who executes the original business plan better than the originator. Uber is the worst. They try to offer too many services and they can't get billing and customer service for Uber rides to work. I kept on getting billed for UberPass even though it's not something I subscribed to or had access to. Customer service couldn't figure it out because they just copy and paste answers to basic questions. They're not set up for real problem solving. On 3 November my wife and I used Uber to take us from the Hampton Inn Boston-Logan to downtown Boston, specifically the Freedom Trail. Knowing the current trend and issues, we ALWAYS wear masks whenever they are required which we DID for this trip. Both of our masks meet the criteria on Uber's web site video. Mine is cloth and actually is double layered. On 4 November we again called for an Uber to take us to another area in downtown Boston. Image our surprise when my wife pulled up her account and discovered the driver of our previous trip had flagged us as not wearing a mask and if it happened again we would be banned from using Uber. I have a few questions/concerns about this. Why was the driver allowed lie about us wearing masks? If one of the masks was unacceptable, where does it state on their web site? What are their drivers' qualifications in virology, communicable diseases or any related field that gives them the credentials to make such a decision? Why was this done secretly, without warning and with no appeal or recourse? Lastly, who the hell do they think they are that they can use such brown-shoe, Nazi tactics and not lose customers? I used to use Uber for a lot of my transporting but in the past year it seems like all Uber drivers are very selective who they pick up. We continue to get cancelled on when we live 15 mins away. It seems like they only take shorter drives now. Lately every time I request a driver they cancel and I have to find a plan B home. I am literally disgusted with Uber Boston ! I have been a loyal customer since it started here and I buy uber passes because I use it so much! On Friday May 11 I took an Uber home from my job to my home which had a fixed price of 8.99(uber pass) at 10:11pm and arrived home at 10:27. The driver named Raiff did not stop the Uber n left it running for over 2 hours and ram the u we up to $174.75 !!!! The first message I sent the next morning uber responded right away and said they adjusted the price and would issue a refund within 3-5 business days! I accepted that when I tried to request a uber to work that morning it said I still owed the $174.75 even though the email reply back said they fixed and adjusted my account! I have sent over 10 messages about this issue and they are telling me I need pay the 174.75 even though they said they fixed my account. It's hit or miss. All depends on your driver. Going to Logan, I don't think my driver had ever been there before. In fact he missed the turn from Rt 30 onto the pike. Both turns. Yikes. Had better luck on the way home from Logan. Victoria was fabulous. You can't beat the price. $41.50 Wayland to Logan. But you get what you pay for. Black car service is $100. I ordered Uber Connect 11/21 to deliver Thanksgiving meal for elderly folks from our house to theirs. They came and picked up the package and 20 minutes in, canceled the trip and stole my package, which dispatched another driver to pick up that was already taken. Tried calling and found out Uber Eats and Connect are 2 separate "companys" and can't help, you can only contact via the APP. So far there has been no assist from Uber as they didn't seem to grasp the idea that the driver STOLE my delivery in their response. This is the last time I use them. DO NOT use Uber in Boston. The drivers will cancel on you just to make a quick $25 and Uber will only refund you in Uber cash. There is no way to actually speak to a live representative. I usually use Lyft and the is definitely my go-back-to ride share preference. Then there were additional charges on my credit card statement that I will need to dispute with my credit card company because again there is no way to speak with a live person. At 11:10 I checked the app and it said on time, a few minutes later it said "no driver available". so what you leave and elderly women and her daughter stranded. Every couple years I try Uber and regret it. This time, I had a 6am plane to catch so I scheduled an Uber at 4:10 - they gave me a range of 4:06 to 4:16. The price was significantly better than the sky high prices elsewhere. The trip was listed on my app for 4:06. I waited until 4:16 and the listing was still there - no driver noted, no one to check with. No information. Of course no way to find out WTF was going on. Ultimately, I got a Lyft - time was getting late so I paid extra for the one that would come in 12 - 15 minutes, vs. one that would take a little longer. Things were slightly slower than usual at Logan, but I did barely make my flight. A major glitch or a closer inspection at security, and I'd have missed it. How is it that they are still in business? This review reflects my experience with ONE driver in particular in the lovely city of Boston, MA. On Wednesday March 22nd, 2023 I ordered an Uber ride from Tatte Cafe which is situated right at the corner of Boylston Street and Kilmarnock Street. There is a Target directly across the street. Since my pickup was at the corner, there is "NO STANDING". So I moved right next door to 1350 Boylston Street so the driver would have an easy pick up. I see the driver arrive at Target across the street. I text him to tell him he as at the wrong location. No answer on multiple texts. I finally walk across the street and I hold my arms spread out asking "what's up?" When I opened the door, this maniac starts yelling at me. "What. This is where you put me. You want me to cancel the trip or what. I asked him why don't you check your app? Then I pull my phone out and begin to record this maniac. All of a sudden he becomes Mr nice guy when he sees me recording. It is guys like this moron driver that give this beautiful city a bad rep. I took 3 trips with Uber so far. 1. Ok 2. Driver didn't show up and cancelled the trip. Not only I had to wait for 20 minutes for the next one, Uber also charged me $5 to "compensate" the no-show driver. 3. The price was 5x times the usual amount "due to heavy traffic". I agreed to pay that, but the final charge was even higher than the price I was shown, b/c driver added some extra "fees" to the trip. I've used Uber 3x and had 3 different experiences. This cab company has hundreds of employees or contractors, and you never know how experienced, or inexperienced, a driver you're going to get. I used UberX because they're currently supposed to be cheaper than Boston taxis. Yet, many people think they are undercutting taxi fees as they start up their business, and will raise their fees once they are more established. They already have HIGH "price surges" during "peak hours." RIDE 1: We went to the airport. The driver was prompt, experienced and had a GPS. We had no problems at all on this trip. RIDE 2: The driver could not find me at Boston Medical Center. I waited an extra HALF HOUR while he drove in circles. I was forced to keep going out into the freezing cold to check each "green car" in the parking circle. FYI...We were in the shade, and your car looked more black than green in that light. RIDE 3: Boston was struggling to remove a LOT of snow from the roads and traffic was backed up. Uber was having a "price surge," but I needed to get to from Copley Square to Mass General Hospital, so I called for a ride. It took him an HOUR to drive me 3 BLOCKS. I was forced to GET OUT on STORROW DRIVE and WALK through three lanes of traffic to make my MGH appointment on time. I was this drivers first, and last, customer...or so he told me. Uber's app has no pop up alerts telling customers they're about to charge you double. How about a pop up alert telling us traffic is suffering EXTREME DELAYS which will greatly effect my fee? I PAID $30+ TO GO 3 BLOCKS! THE DEAL: Uber auto tips 20% onto your bill. Scheduled a ride in advance for a pickup and the driver couldn't find us at the world trade center in Boston so he cancelled, I even called him twice and talked to him. Same happened with the second driver, third found ue one hour late. Me and my wife stood their from 9-10pm in an unsafe place in the dark in the pouring rain. The best thing to happen to Boston in transportation since.....hmm well ever? the only changes in transit that come to mind are profoundly negative when it comes to the hub. What with the constant fare hikes, T break downs, no we wont open all doors on the green line during rush hour have fun making your way to the front door through the crowd of 300 sweaty passengers because hey fcuk you! ... yeah, best thing EVER. The concept is pretty simple: open app, set location, click COME PICK ME UP BETCH button (if you've had a few cocktails) and poof! magically your driver appears. I use uber on the regular now and had maybe one hiccup on a busy Saturday night where the driver was one street over and wanted me to walk to him. No thanks, not in heels, not while drunk, not while paying the 1.5x busy rate fare. The driver cancelled, so no problems for me. Their customer service is also phenomenal. How often do people say that? Seriously, the only customer service representatives I have ever enjoyed talking to are at AMEX, and the guys on uber are totally on par. They respond to inquiries online within minutes, and follow up with poor driver ratings within the hour. Bottom line is you're paying 30-50% less than any cab, you get a polite and safe driver, and you can follow the car's GPS 100% of the time. 5 stars As good as it get's for sure. read more

I've used Uber quite a bit in the past few months. The sheer convenience of this service is what I love. I started using it during snowmageddon, and it proved itself extremely useful and easy to use. Need to get home after a night out? Get an uber. Missed your bus after rush hour? Get an uber. Missed the last train? Get an uber. Seriously. It's easy to use and hassle free. When you sign up, you get a free ride. Drivers are extremely professional and polite. Prices are good too, except during rush hour which is more than understandable. The cost from the train station to my apt is $5-7. With a regular cab, it would cost me $10 with tip. Even during rush hour the prices are still infinitely better than a regular cab. Used Uber twice on my recent visit to Boston and had great experiences each time. A friend arranged my first ride (he had Uber credits that he wanted to use), a pickup from South Station to take me to where I was staying in the North End. Uber provided the vehicle details and the name of the driver (to my friend, whom forwarded them to me), along with noting it'd be just a 3 minute wait for the pickup. The driver arrived in, oh, probably one minute after the confirmation? Yeah. And he took me directly to where I was staying in the North End. Prompt, efficient, and totally a nice guy. I also used Uber to get back to the South Station from the North End. A different driver this time, of course, but also a delightful experience. I've loved Uber when I've used the service while in Seattle, and my experiences in Boston have been equally as positive. Everything is clean, the communication is effective, and it's just an all around nicer experience than using/calling for a taxi. I'd recommend Uber to anybody wanting an effective means to get around. read more

I like Uber, it's a great alternative to taxis/cabs. Let me preface this by saying that every time you want to use a credit card in a taxi/cab in Boston, it's always a big deal, at least it has been for me. Oh, your credit card machine is broken? You prefer cash? No I don't have cash, hence using the card. This is 2014, you literally use debit cards for $1 sodas at vending machines. Anyway, for me, this is the biggest benefit of Uber. No hassle regarding payments, and the drivers so far have been friendly and what not. Why not 5 stars? Surcharges during "peak" times, which is arbitrary, as well as the new $1 surcharge for safe rides?? Venmo sent me an email with a code for $10 off an Uber ride as a celebration for being able to use them as a payment method. I applied the code to my account, took a ride, the code didn't apply. I asked Uber support why and they said I had to make sure payment was on Venmo. Alright. I took another ride and made sure Venmo was my payment, still nothing. Contacted Uber support over 7 times and got answers ranging from, "we don't know what ride you're talking about", to "select your payment method to apply credit" to "This code expired", "We're unable to refund or credit this ride". Basically,they refuse the email fine print from Venmo and don't care that there was a promo code tbat was supposed to work on their platform. Very poor service. read more

There are some great drivers but the company leaves lots to be desired. More time wasted than it's worth Hire anyone of the many livery services available especially to and from the Airport. Some how when my wife's phone and mine got hacked my Axe ended up tied to an account in her name and I stopped getting my monthly credits 2 hours or more between Amex and Uber and I ended up doing it myself. Downloading the Uber app getting a password for my wife's phone and deleting the card. Then uninstalling the app I then went to my phone and did the same. We've taken uber a couple times now. It's still alien to me but I'm getting the hang of it. You down load the app. You then sign into your account and off you go onto your next adventure. You just press it, type in where you want to go and it'll tell you on their app who your driver will be and what car and make. My only problem with it is the drivers don't exactly know the exact location as to where you are. Some are nice enough to call you via cell phone and others just wait at a corner elsewhere. Both of us not knowing where the other one is. That's frustrating. Then comes their driving. Some are very smooth drivers and deserve 5 stars. Others disregard the google map or whatever they're using and scare me so they get two stars. That has me the most nervous. Most are just erratic when driving. It's also because we get cut off a lot so I can't deduct any points on them. Some however drive erratic and nobody's cutting them off. No wonder I'm never sure with these drivers. Ugh.
