It's located in Brunswick County off a country road. The main highlight here is...yep, this building! There's not much else around, but for history buffs and philatelists, this quirky diminutive white washed edifice is worth taking a gander! Thousands of folks would agree since, come February, this P.O. gets flooded with sweethearts! Named for the first postmaster, William Valentine, who served in that capacity from 1887-1911, this building shares its space with a general store that will take you back in time. Willie Wright, who owned the store became the postmaster in 1947 and the two businesses merged. His work here was literally a "labor of love" and he started the heart stamped tradition that still lives today. Many stamp collectors and card senders make it a point to add this landmark stop to their list! One thing is for sure, this historic post office proves that Virginia, truly is, for lovers!

a package was sent to this Post Office by mistake. I called them to to find out what happened to it…read moresince it had not moved for a few days via the tracking on the USPS site. When I told her my tracking number and what I was seeing on the web site she copped an attitude saying "well i show on my end it was rerouted" in a very rude and condescending manner. I said again that that is not what i am showing on the website. June then repeated herself in a manner that was again exhibiting a bad attitude. I then told her she had a piss poor attitude she then said "what?!" i told her again that she had a piis poor attitude then she started to get belligerent to when i responded " thank you have a bad weekend!" I would not have got shitty whit her if she had just maintained a professional and polite tone of voice. June needs some more training in customer service relations.

There's still some life here though, it holds many historical sites such as the Gholson Bridge and Fort Christanna. The "downtown" historic area on Main Street is undergoing several facelift projects and hopefully will add to the value of this small town, once bustling with tobacco and cotton industries. The town sponsors several events throughout the year, seasonal parades and celebrations, Brunswick Stew festival, and Farmer's Market days. With all the historically preserved architectural buildings here, you'd expect to find a quaint old fashioned post office. Maybe at one time there was such a building, but now the post office is a squatty long brick building with little curb appeal. This building in low! The windows are touching the roof. It's certainly not an attractive government facility, but it gets the job done! The hours are 8:30-5:00 M-F, 9:30-11:00 Sat. They have regular mail services, P.O. Boxes, money order services, but no passport service at this location. It was pretty clean and well-stocked with shipping supplies. There was also a greeting card and stationery rack. Like many of these small town post offices, it could use an update!

And Danielle referred us to another minuscule post office up the road in Meredithville! This one in Warfield, (which used to be a railroad town but has since seen a decrease in population which according to statistics from 2024 is now 34) has vintage brass post offices boxes and is neat as a pin! The Masons built this structure and their insignia is displayed atop of the building. Not much else is nearby save a bank, the railroad tracks, a small park featuring a commemorative cannon, and a few other buildings and shops. It's such a tiny but friendly town! The postmaster and I talked about the price of stamps going up to $.60, and she said soon to be $.63, to which I responded that I still find it fascinating that the postal service can send a letter from one place to another for even that small price... I'll happily use the mail system for my letters, bills, thank you cards and greeting cards! The art of letter writing isn't dead after all! Hours: M-F 8:00-12:30, 1:30-4:30, Saturday 9:30-11:30.
