HORRIBLE! I cannot believe a simple truck rental could turn out this bad. We rented a 10ft truck for one day. They were out of 10ft so gave us a 14ft, then charged us for 14ft when they clearly said it would be a free upgrade. Then they charged us for 2 days when they clearly said that it could be returned any time and drop the keys off since they were closed that day! Then the lady there said they could not refund anything!! I needed to call a 1-800 number which was a huge hassle. Why are you renting me a 10ft if you dont have it?? Absolutely the worst Uhaul location ever. Rude trashy staff. It was almost like they were trying to get my husband and I to fight with each other which was totally bizarre. They refused to do a preliminary check of the truck with us. One of the truck tires was almost bald and had a slow leak which we didn't realize until we got back to our house to move. Watch out for these guys. Check your mileage and take a photo before you rent. These guys ripped me off by about 14 miles. I added up my distance the entire time but I forgot to check mileage at the beginning. I trusted that these guys would write the correct # but not the case. Not only that but it was really strange picking up and dropping off truck. Horrible customer service. Never even said a word to me almost the entire time when I dropped off. Uncomfortable vibe. I always rent from guys in San Juan location and always get great service so I was not expecting this kind of service. Avoid this uhaul location if you can. I needed to rent a moving truck on a Sunday, so I figured this place would be my best option since it was local for me at the time. The place is small and kind of secluded, located inside Laguna Beach Self Storage. The woman working informed me that they only had a 10' truck or a pickup. Lame. Since I own a pickup, I went with the 10', which ended up being just barely big enough. The process of getting in and out was relatively quick and painless, lasting around 10 minutes. I love places like this - no bullshit. In, sign this, take these keys, out. Simple. Total cost was around $85 for 50-ish miles of driving and gas. I had to do night drop-off since it would have been considered late if I returned it after 7am the next day, even though I rented it at around 2pm. So much for a 24-hour window. Also lame. But, for the sake of convenience, this place did me just fine. read more

UNPROFESSIONAL - RUDE - IRRATIONAL- BAD MOUTH I really would like to give negative non-star!!! The worse experience in Laguna Beach CA !!!! I came to rent a small truck. The man went over a few important rental rules. 1. Inspect truck so you don't get charge for dents and damages. (Which it had a million as the guy said" its been around the world and back. " )2. The daily rate 19.99 3. the refill gas instructions and charges. 4. Insurance waiver 5. Return date and time. He said if we keep it past the check out time we would get charged the daily rate. Ok off we go. We didn't get all accomplished and decided to keep it one more day. 19.99 not a bad price. Well we were on our way and realized that we would be a few minutes late cuz of traffic. I called the see if they would not charge me a third day for being few minutes late. Well the lady Sherryl was rude to me :( I didn't understand why she was so angry. I was just letting them know I would be a few minutes late. Well then she starts to raise her voice at me and tells me that I was rude for not returning her calls, I said " I was sorry, that I was moving and didn't have time to answer the phone or return calls. "Well she hung up on me. I was in a state of shock! I knew that for sure that she wasn't going to waive anything. I arrived and said" Hello I am Marilyn" she said, very rudely "I know who you are!!" I knew she was not going to waive anything at this point. I still asked since it was just a few minutes. She said she was charging me$150 for not returning the truck on time. I explained that I was told that I could keep it as many days needed and I would be charged the day daily rate. She raised her voice and said "NO and that I didn't have the curtsy to return her call and that I was suppose to call if I was keeping the truck past the due date." I explained I was moving and didn't check voice mail. Also that I was not told that I needed to call in if I was keeping it! She got nastier she said, You send me a F'n text that your in a meeting!!" Then get husband Mike Carr begins to insult me by saying" It's not my problem if you can't read this 4 page manual!!! The both start to raise their voices. Then I said, " I am going to record this behavior and post it online. Then all of the sudden they stopped talking and said they wouldn't charge me the $ 150 fee but will charge me the third day. I told then I would give them a bad review and they said they didn't care and it didn't matter. Nice!! I called the corporate office and I can tell they have a team of people that just listen to people's problems and make a note of it and that is it. I asked for a follow up on the issues but received nothing. Not too surprised. I did get a credit back 3 weeks later tho. I normally don't get this detailed but I want them to NOT treat people the way I was treated!!! read more

Terrible customer service, they won't answer the phone when you call, and the manager was a complete dick. If I acted like that at my job, I'd be fired. This should not be a designated UHaul provider, because people like this will eventually give your company a bad name. If I could rate them no stars, I would. I can not over-emphasize to anyone considering using this U-Haul business, to go elsewhere!!! Read the majority of reviews, and follow their advice. This is a nightmare, waiting for you... I don't spend time writing reviews unless they are exceptional, or disastrous. This one is disastrous. I reserved a 17' truck on line, provided my personal/credit information to use their 'express check-out' service...for a 4:00pm pick up of the vehicle. I received a call at 3:05 pm, the day of pick-up, telling me the truck was not there and wouldn't be there. No options were offered, other than telling me I could use the 14' truck. The couch I was moving, was 13' and so I drove down there to check if it would fit (since the guy on the line couldn't confirm what the internal size of the truck was!)... The 14' truck was 12.5' inside...so I'm not sure why they call it 14'. I drove home, called the mover to tell them I needed to cancel the move. 30 minutes later, I receive a call from the same guy, telling me a 17' truck had just been returned. Not sure how that happened, since I asked them to check the schedule to see if anything was due back and they told me no. Ok, so I call my mover back and got them to 'un-cancel' the move, went down to U-Haul again, and found the truck with the same guy, sweeping the back of the truck out, saying "this truck is covered in white powder...I'm trying to clean it, but is this ok?' Sure....I'm moving a new couch with a truck that is literally covered with what looks like cement dust! WTF! I couldn't 're-cancel' my move again.... so I told him yeah, I'd just use some sheets to cover the bottom and hope it was ok. I checked it out and did the move. Let me tell you about the truck....112,000+ miles on it! You can imagine the driving condition! Enough said!....(I wouldn't let me friends drive this piece of *&^! I returned the truck, after filling it with gas. Yes, I filled it!! I actually wasn't sure I had filled it completely, so after filling it once, I re-filled it further at the same pump...and squeezed in another few gallons. I drove a total of 30 miles and put in 8+ gallons. I parked the truck where I was told and dropped the keys with the gas receipts into the drop. This morning, I received an electronic receipts, showing not only the fee for the truck, but a 'cleaning fee' of $25.00, a dolly fee of $7.00 and a re-fueling fee of $7.50! WTF!? Remember, I moved 1 couch....and had to spend extra time putting sheets down to avoid the mess in the truck that was there when I rented it! (and the guy told me he'd put the notes in the 'system'...). I think it's natural to get upset at this point. I called the U-Haul business (direct to the Laguna Beach office) and started leaving a message on their machine (which apparently they monitor, since I got half way through my message and the 'guy' pick it up)... I repeated the events listed above, told him I wanted a refund of the cleaning/fueling/dolly fee! He simply said..."oh, well...I guess we should fix that'..... When I hung up, I didn't know if it was going to happen or not. Hours later, I received another receipt, showing they had removed the fueling and cleaning fees, but left the stupid $7.00 dolly fee AND, I immediately was notified by Amex that my card had been charged, without the card being present. Apparently, the first receipt, they hadn't charged against my card yet....after they 'fixed it', they obviously didn't wait to see if I had been satisfied, they simply charged the card. Honestly, I believe they attempted to see if I would simply ignore the additional charges and process the charge after a period of time when they didn't hear anything back from me. I'm considering contacting the better business bureau. After the receipt arrived electronically, I received a 'request for review' of my experience with U-Haul, from the Corporate U-Haul office. I sent the same information you have read above. You should also know, on the website for U-Haul, in a HUGE banner, it says "We guarantee if you're vehicle is not ready at the time of your reservation, we pay you $50.00!" Can you believe it?? My initial interaction with the lady that works there was very pleasant, friendly quick and not pushy about renting other things. Unfortunately the interaction wIth the man that works there, when I dropped off the truck was disappointing. I was told when i picked up the truck I needed to " fill" the truck and bring a gas receipt. I did and was was unhappy about spending 29.00 and some change for gas when I only drove 27 miles! I obviously did not use that much gas. I shared this fact with the man. I was told that you have to drive 45 miles before the gas needle moves from the full mark . And that the trucks only get 5 miles to the gallon. I happen to know long haul truckers that get that or better gas mileage, so I have my doubts about that one. Ok so in the first scenario, I ended up paying for someone else's gas, and in the second scenario it still dosent add up. But he could care less. So my advise to you is, figure out about how much gas you think you used and put that in. Because chances are the needle will be on full mark read more

My husband and I "thought" we rented an available unit last week. The woman in the front office had us fill out all the appropriate credit card information and lease agreement, even set up a gate code. She was very rushed and erratic, but we left happy about the unit and the price we had paid. 5 minutes later she called and said that there was a leak in the ceiling and that we would have to wait a week to move our items in. Today when I called to see if the repairs had been done the Manager said that she had no record of us and that the unit was already rented. She was very hostile and kept telling me "I don't know what to tell you ma'am, but the unit is rented and we have no record of you". I have hard copies of all of the paperwork we filled out and am waiting to see if our credit card was charged. I don't know what she "managed" in that conversation, offering zero resolve or even a slight bit of sympathy for the situation. Rented a Ford Van yesterday to move a couch up to Chino. We arrived at the U-Haul place, and had to leave our car there. We have a handicap placard, so we parked it in the handicap spot. (There are only 2 parking spots total) We picked up the U-Haul, and about 15-20 minuted later we get a call from a lispy, rude, bitch who happens to be one of the owners. She called to say that we were not allowed to park our car there, and that it was going to get towed. Nowhere did it say that it would get towed. We couldn't turn around, because we were on the toll road. Thankfully, we called back, and mike answered. He said that if we made it there by 6:00 the car wouldn't be towed. We made it back by 5:55 to move the car to the street so they couldn't tow it. This woman charged us extra and forgot to give us a dolly. She made the day even more stressful then it was. Very unprofessional, rude, annoying, and psycho. DON'T come here!!!!! Save some energy and don't deal with this pshyco bitch. read more

Went to return my Uhaul truck to this location and the "gentleman" literally screamed at me that "I could not return that size truck to this location". Calmly introducing myself to him, he continued to berate me as to why I did not call them to check, I then calmly looked at my written rental contract that showed I was to return the truck to this location, and showed the insolent "customer service agent" who told me "Well, you should have checked, that's wrong!". So I called the after hours 800 customer service line, spoke with JJ who said it was Uhauls error, just to drop the key in the afterhours slot and they would take care of everything. This is where Fraud happens, so the next day, thier "customer service agent" onsite who lives there, waited until after my time expired the NEXT day to check in the truck AND The TWERP charged me an extra day so his little soul would feel better about him not being able to tell me what to do I suppose. So another call to customer service 2 days later, where I immediately get forwarded to the Regional Office, where they tell me there is NOTHING BUT COMPLAINTS about this location, I heard this from the phone rep who helped me and his boss. So, there you have it. I have all their phone calls recorded, if you ever deal with any issue at this location I would recommend you do the same. read more

The couple running the location were rude, unhelpful, unfriendly, and clearly racist. Here are some examples: No hello greeting. Apparently I was bothering them coming at their lunch time. When asked if I could bring back the van at 12:30pm since I was picking it up then, they said no, you reserved it for 12 and you are late, so it is your problem. They threw the keys on the counter and told me the van was outside. They did not walk outside to show me where the van was or even indicate which one it was. Did not come outside to walk the car to see what damages there was. I was told to mark the areas of damage myself on the form. I took pictures of the damage because I did not trust these people. The car was filthy inside, smelled like sweat and cigarettes, and covered in dust, leaves and bugs. When I asked if they washed their cars, they just stared at me and said, they don't wash them because they can't have water on their location and that uHaul is in charge of washing the cars. Basically, the same treatment and poor customer service returning the van. The most unhelpful, rude, and red-necks I have had to deal with. I normally rent from Budget or Penske and those folks go out of their way to be helpful and make it an easy and pleasant experience. I spend about $150 for renting a van for 2 days on a regular basis for my business and I will never use uHaul again. As well as let my colleagues know that we will continue to only use Budget and Penske. The only reason I tried uHaul this time was that you are located closer to our new storage unit. Clearly, the longer drive to Budget or Penske is worthy the quality customer service we receive. I am appalled by your agents and they are an appalling representative of your company. read more

Be careful. This dealer will tell you your automobile insurance won't cover a commercial rental truck. NOT TRUE. Call your insurance agent to verify. Once this local dealer scares you into buying "safe move" insurance, they change their story on what they said. Really don't like this type of outfit. All of these comments are accurate and the units are not secure. Do not store valuables in them. There is not security or cameras except at the entrance areas, the managers can be gone on Holidays when it is closed and no one is around, the back fence has been cut by, most likely intruders, and repaired, in some areas the fencing is rounded as so many people have climbed over it, there are very worn, established trails behind fence and there are active transient shelter in front of wall between river and cement wall. One time there were several cigarette buds at stair well as if some one spent a period of time there. I had a unit on the back row and the lock was cut and I was robbed over the managers' Christmas Holiday when no one was there. I know the time frame BC I was there Wed. PM and back Sat. afternoon. The employees blamed me for the robbery acting like I was lying and trying to make an insurance claim which I did not do, although I have insurance but high deductible. I called the UHaul management company but they did not call me back. The manager was upset BC they were in Las Vegas and were getting calls from LBPD re the theft. I doubt they ever viewed the 42 hours of surveillance when no one was around to figure out what happened. And, then, I did not recall getting a copy of the storage unit contract and they insisted I did. After a few requests for a copy, I was told I could copy it with my camera, it worked. The storage unit I now have for a lower cost, has cameras everywhere, on alarm security system after hours, longer hours, climate control, wheeled dollies always available, actual card swipes for access through the gate and into the elevators and buildings, and the people are very helpful and nice. read more
