Well, imagine planning an unexpected move because your landlord has to renovate your apartment, so you're forced to move out. After careful planning, you arrive at U-Haul to rent a truck to facilitate this move, only to learn you can't rent a truck. Mind you, you've never rented a truck from them before, so you're rather perplexed. Turns out, back in January, a friend needed my help to move some belongings because they were forced out of their apartment because of rent issues due to the pandemic. Naturally I wanted to help. So I tried to rent a truck for him, with him as the second driver. Unbeknownst to me, my friend had a previous debt with Uhaul spanning back 5 years. Because his name was listed on my contract, the system issued an "e-alert" as they call it which will block you from renting a truck until the debt is paid. Of course this is understandable for the person that accrued the debt but not for the person helping a friend during a pandemic, who didn't know the person years before when they acquired the debt nor had prior knowledge of it. So after calling the chain of command up to corporate and explaining the situation, we were still told that nothing could be done and my name wouldn't be removed from this block list until the debt is paid, thus leaving me stranded without adequate transportation for my move. Unfortunately , my friend can't pay this debt now because of his hardship from Covid which will prevent me from using this service for the foreseeable future. Once his debt is taken care of and I'm cleared, I still will not patronize U-haul ever, my first try was my last try. How insensitive it was for a company to treat a customer like this during a pandemic and also a new customer. Not only will I never patronize this company, I will continue to discourage others to not as well. read more
