It's a wonderful facility with tons of mat space. The instructors are extremely knowledgable and super supportive and helpful! Also, the mats are cleaned every day after practice which is awesome! The atmosphere is super friendly and all the students help each other get better at this combative martial art. The program is absolutely the best option to help you lose weight, because it's so fun you don't even realize you've exercised so much. Also you're learning a valuable and dominant form of self defense that can help you survive and function during any possible form of violence in the streets. (Hopefully you won't have to use it; but it's better to know how to handle yourself and not need it than the other way around.) As I mentioned before, everyone is super supportive and helpful of each other. And if you're nervous about coming in and getting "roughed up"; that is absolutely not the case. Beginners start slowly and everyone is mindful of new students. Also, the instructors never put a "spotlight" on students which can make some people self-conscious. Instead, the instructors show everything in detail and answer questions. Then you break into groups of 2 and practice the move. That being said, this is an excellent sport to get involved with a friend!

If you're not sure you want to join the gym, you can get one (1) FREE private lesson. The students are all happy to help each other learn. Their are Law Enforcement training classes for any correctional officers that want to hone their defense as well as restraining and cuffing techniques. I encourage everyone to train here.

I am emailing to report that we are completely floored and disappointed on how our child was treated while at your camp last week. The lack of accountability is unacceptable! That your nurse would argue with us about our child's medication instructions, after she did not administer medication to our children all week, is so irresponsible! I made an attempt to speak to those in charge, but everyone kept passing me on to someone else! On the way home, our child informed us that she was so sick, she was having accidents in her bed; and asked to call home to inform us and was denied access to a phone! This is unacceptable!! If YOUR STAFF is incapable of taking care of OUR CHILDREN while in your care, then at the very least, someone should have contacted us and given us the option of coming to get them! Her counselors bullied her and allowed for her bunk mate to also bully her the entire week! She stated that one counselor pushed her because the counselor did not feel that our child was doing as instructed. The other one stepped on her hand and stated to her, "I am so NOT sorry for doing that." Our child also asked to see her younger sister because she was so sick and was denied the request when other campers were allowed to hang out with their siblings. When she asked why she could not see her sister, the counselor told her because it was her first year; and that only campers who have been attending for several years were allowed to visit with their siblings. If there is going to be such favoritism then maybe you all should NOT have put out a Groupon. Our child came home broken and has not been herself since we picked her up on Saturday. She is distant, she does not want to make eye contact with anyone, and she does not want anyone to touch her and most importantly has not smiled since she has been home! I seriously hope that you will re-train all your counselors; but especially your nurse, because all this behavior is inexcusable!

It's currently letting Galveston Yacht Club re-establish off of the property. It has multiple floors an is outfitting for meeting or all kinds of spaces, classrooms, etc. I haven't had a full tour. Tons of docks - they are being repaired with a goal date of the end of the year I think, maybe sooner. Prime area. I believe the goal is to sell it to a group to further sailing education and participation which is really cool. Great staff.

In honor of my 60th BD on the 23rd...we, "just sit right back and you'll hear a tale...a tale" of 3 gals on the bayou!!! (gilligan's island song reference) The three of us had the best time...Sunday FUNday! It was predicted to be a 40-80% chance of rain ...BUTT, not today Satan...the weather was perfect...hardly any clouds, 75 out and a decent wind...Capt Clement was patient, friendly and informative. I was the captain for about an hour...then I asked my friend to take over...she hesitantly did! We were on a 30 foot sailboat called, "the lift off!" It had plenty of space to sit. While on the water we met several other sailors/captains that Clement knew and we got to talk to from afloat. This outing cost $50 each and we were sailing in Offatt's bayou for 2 hours (maximum is 3 hours but, we all had to pee, so we lost an hour...old bitty's!!! LOL!) All in all, it was a FANTASTIC experience ...very zen. Get this...one friend aboard hadn't been on (any) kind of boat in 38 years (she had been involved in a near fatal boat crash at 14) and today, was the day she conquered that fear of water-crafts. We all learned a lot from Captain Jardin and about ourselves. " and if the wind is right you can find the joy of innocence again" (christopher cross 1979) For information about this sail...you can reach Captain at this email cjardin@ssbgalveston.org Or Call 409 572 2560 Do it!!!

Our daughter, despite the heat loved all the amenities camp had to offer. The bunks/cabins were amazing. Each room in our daughters cabin had 6-8 beds and shared a private toilet and shower. In the room was a community sink. There were 3 rooms in the cabin and had a middle seating/lounge area and small kitchen (assuming for the counselors). They had access to ice and water to fill their bottles. Shoes were kept outside the main door to keep the interior tidy. Days were started and finished with devotions/Bible study and worship. They swam at least once a day and kept them cool with water activities through the day and inside arts and crafts. When it was time to go home, our daughter cried because she didn't want to leave the camp or the new friends she had made through the week. We will most definitely be back next year!!!
