I am extremely disappointed with the way this gym has been handled recently. A coach made comments…read moreand decisions that came across as discriminatory toward children with autism, which is completely unacceptable in any environment involving kids. My wife has dedicated years helping and supporting students here, only to be told that her class was "geared toward kids like that," in a disrespectful and dismissive manner. No parent or staff member should ever be made to feel that children with special needs are a problem or less deserving of respect and inclusion. What's even more concerning is that the owner has allowed a newer coach to create a toxic and unprofessional atmosphere without stepping in. Leadership matters, and unfortunately it seems the professionalism and values this place once had are no longer being upheld. Because of this experience, I would not feel comfortable bringing my children back here, nor would I recommend this gym to other families.

It's a wonderful facility with tons of mat space. The instructors are extremely knowledgable and super supportive and helpful! Also, the mats are cleaned every day after practice which is awesome! The atmosphere is super friendly and all the students help each other get better at this combative martial art. The program is absolutely the best option to help you lose weight, because it's so fun you don't even realize you've exercised so much. Also you're learning a valuable and dominant form of self defense that can help you survive and function during any possible form of violence in the streets. (Hopefully you won't have to use it; but it's better to know how to handle yourself and not need it than the other way around.) As I mentioned before, everyone is super supportive and helpful of each other. And if you're nervous about coming in and getting "roughed up"; that is absolutely not the case. Beginners start slowly and everyone is mindful of new students. Also, the instructors never put a "spotlight" on students which can make some people self-conscious. Instead, the instructors show everything in detail and answer questions. Then you break into groups of 2 and practice the move. That being said, this is an excellent sport to get involved with a friend!

This was our child experience at Camp Niwana! This is a…read morecopy of the letter I wrote to them about our issues! I am emailing to report that we are completely floored and disappointed on how our child was treated while at your camp last week. The lack of accountability is unacceptable! That your nurse would argue with us about our child's medication instructions, after she did not administer medication to our children all week, is so irresponsible! I made an attempt to speak to those in charge, but everyone kept passing me on to someone else! On the way home, our child informed us that she was so sick, she was having accidents in her bed; and asked to call home to inform us and was denied access to a phone! This is unacceptable!! If YOUR STAFF is incapable of taking care of OUR CHILDREN while in your care, then at the very least, someone should have contacted us and given us the option of coming to get them! Her counselors bullied her and allowed for her bunk mate to also bully her the entire week! She stated that one counselor pushed her because the counselor did not feel that our child was doing as instructed. The other one stepped on her hand and stated to her, "I am so NOT sorry for doing that." Our child also asked to see her younger sister because she was so sick and was denied the request when other campers were allowed to hang out with their siblings. When she asked why she could not see her sister, the counselor told her because it was her first year; and that only campers who have been attending for several years were allowed to visit with their siblings. If there is going to be such favoritism then maybe you all should NOT have put out a Groupon. Our child came home broken and has not been herself since we picked her up on Saturday. She is distant, she does not want to make eye contact with anyone, and she does not want anyone to touch her and most importantly has not smiled since she has been home! I seriously hope that you will re-train all your counselors; but especially your nurse, because all this behavior is inexcusable!

It's currently letting Galveston Yacht Club re-establish off of the property. It has multiple floors an is outfitting for meeting or all kinds of spaces, classrooms, etc. I haven't had a full tour. Tons of docks - they are being repaired with a goal date of the end of the year I think, maybe sooner. Prime area. I believe the goal is to sell it to a group to further sailing education and participation which is really cool. Great staff.

November 21, 2021…read more AWESOME EXPERIENCE with Captain Clement Jardin!! In honor of my 60th BD on the 23rd...we, "just sit right back and you'll hear a tale...a tale" of 3 gals on the bayou!!! (gilligan's island song reference) The three of us had the best time...Sunday FUNday! It was predicted to be a 40-80% chance of rain ...BUTT, not today Satan...the weather was perfect...hardly any clouds, 75 out and a decent wind...Capt Clement was patient, friendly and informative. I was the captain for about an hour...then I asked my friend to take over...she hesitantly did! We were on a 30 foot sailboat called, "the lift off!" It had plenty of space to sit. While on the water we met several other sailors/captains that Clement knew and we got to talk to from afloat. This outing cost $50 each and we were sailing in Offatt's bayou for 2 hours (maximum is 3 hours but, we all had to pee, so we lost an hour...old bitty's!!! LOL!) All in all, it was a FANTASTIC experience ...very zen. Get this...one friend aboard hadn't been on (any) kind of boat in 38 years (she had been involved in a near fatal boat crash at 14) and today, was the day she conquered that fear of water-crafts. We all learned a lot from Captain Jardin and about ourselves. " and if the wind is right you can find the joy of innocence again" (christopher cross 1979) For information about this sail...you can reach Captain at this email cjardin@ssbgalveston.org Or Call 409 572 2560 Do it!!!

I can not say enough wonderful things about this camp. Every year that we have picked them up, no one wants to come home as they want to continue to stay and have fun with their counselors, friends, old and new, and being adventurous. I felt compelled to write this review because I read some of the negative reviews left that I can absolutely, with 100% assurance, say we have never heard of nor experienced with any of our children. People from every walk of life are present and everyone is welcomed with open arms. I've also gone myself for the mother-daughter camp and experienced first-hand how the bunks feel and the camp operates. They were comfortable, quiet and clean. While the cuisine isn't five-star, it is good camp food. The kids love it and there is a good selection. We can't expect a Perry's steakhouse every night for these guys! The counselors have always been very attentive and write to our children via postcard during the year to check-in and encourage them to continue their personal growth and relationship with God. My children LOVE their counselors. The camp is wholesome, fun, offers a huge selection of activities and is close to Houston while being just far enough away. I could go on and on, but I would encourage anyone looking for a great place to send their children for a fantastic sleep away camp to look into Camp Cho-Yeh.
