My BF ordered a ribeye, and (because he thought he was super hungry), ordered chips and salsa as a starter. Kaitlyn brought out my wine and our chips and salsa straight away. The chips were very stale, the salsa was tasty but a little spicy for my taste. Everything arrived at our table at the same time, even though I ordered two apps as my meal. Kudos to Kaitlyn. The cucumbers were good, especially with the jalapeño ranch. No one can mess up a cucumber, but the jalapeño ranch was tasty. My boudin ball was meh. My BF ordered his ribeye medium temperature, and it arrived rare. Kaitlyn checked in on us a couple of minutes after the food arrived. He told her about the steak and she quickly whisked it away. ~5 minutes later, someone delivered the new steak. My BF enjoyed the new steak, baked potato and salad. When we visited four years ago, we felt rushed. I felt rushed this time as well. Obviously, Tia Juanita's is doing very well. You can't swing a rope without seeing another TJ's in SETX. It's probably just not our jam. I like a nice meal without feeling rushed. I also prefer to eat with a proper fork and knife. Ridiculous treatment of guests. Shop lights over the Beer Garden refreshment area added to the lack of comfort as they shined in my eyes the entire time. Pathetic. BB deserves better. I would have loved to see him at a legit center like the Julie Rogers theater or Lutcher. Did I mention the plastic Sam's Club tables? Oh that's classy. This place is a joke. "We don't have enough people to justify the big acts. Those are in Houston. People drive there to see them. I tried Journey and Allen Jackson at Ford Park, and you can't sell enough tickets to make it work." So instead, he shifted his efforts to a different market. I ventured to my Dad's hometown of Silsbee, Texas for the 4th Annual Battle for the Paddle washer…read moretournament and BBQ cookoff. This was a great event to raise money for the Boys and Girls club. The majority of the event was held out back in the large grassy area. It was a beautiful day and it seems a great time was had by all. Once the BBQ cookoff had ended, everyone went inside for the judges to announce the results. After judging a live band played the rest of the night. The band was great. They played all kinds of classic country songs and even a few new ones. The venue was much larger than I expected. There was a huge dance floor and many tables spread all around the sides and in the bar area up front. One odd thing? The bar did not have tonic water. No vodka or gin and tonics could be served. That was a bit of a disappointment. After the long day of cold Bud Lights we needed to eat again so we headed over to the kitchen which had a short order window. All items on the menu were frozen and fried upon ordering. The chicken strips and fries were still pretty good though, but we had been drinking for a while, so who knows if they were really all that good. All in all if I am ever in Silsbee again I'd happily stop by "The Tonk" for some cold ones.
