This was my first time riding Mt Wilson, using Chris and his shuttle. Quick e-mail response? Check. Quickly e-mailed me about a shuttle change and had me re-booked? Check. Shuttle on time? Check. Fast load/unload? Check. Gets you to your destination quickly? Check. Trail routes and conditions? Check. Courteous? Check. Enthusiasm? Check. What more could you want? Check. The negative reviews are by people who do NOT research before going, then complain when it's not designed for them. Trail conditions are not the responsibility of the shuttle Co. Idiots. I researched the company. They were courteous and responded promptly to inquiries and since I had never ridden there before he recommended the Enduro day, which I booked. Unfortunately not enough riders where going, and I fully understand the logistic costs for one rider, duh. Chris put me on the single run shuttle. I had a blast and went again the following day, single run "Front side". If your into astronomy or just great views, have the shuttle take you all the way up top to enjoy the views and checkout the telescopes and museum, then ride back down the hill to start "Front side". TRAILS: Since I actually researched the ride (you should too) by viewing numerous youtube videos, I knew exactly what I was getting. The trails were just as I had suspected, loose rocky topside and sandy flowy bottom side. Technical? There are no jumps, gaps, huge drops are park type features (maybe secretly), this is a state park not Mammoth people, duh. The trails themselves? Maybe less than a 1/4 overall would be (what I call) technical, with mini rock gardens, step drops (fun), several switchbacks, but all but maybe one or two are easily rideable, no dabs. There are only a few places where you can really open it up and boogey. The site lines along the trail are short, the brush can make it narrow with bar grabs here and there up top. Again, everything I had expected. The mid bottom trails are fast and flowy. Climbs? there were a couple, what I call transitional XC (non technical) gentle climbs. Very easy, the longest being less than a 1/2 mile (?). The exposure is real, but actually less than what I had built it up to in my mind. I walked one or two stupid short rocky sections that came up fast around a blind corner and I didn't have time (knowledge) to momentum over them. I could easily now. I never felt in any real peril of "Going over the edge", though if you day dream, your in trouble. Stay focused and stop to look around. So do your research, go have fun or listen to the lame negative reviews and go elsewhere. Peace.

Mostly, these shuttle runs are available based on ridership. Contact Chris through the website to check for availability but a shuttle sell out is not unheard of nearing the end of the week. Once you are booked the pick up location and time will be relayed to via email. The trails in the Angeles Forest offer intermediate and up riding options, most routes are under 14 miles in length, and a few can be linked together to create an epic day in the mountains. Or, if night riding is your thing there is a popular Friday evening shuttle that runs. On our way back gets very slippery it's all downhill, be cautious and wear proper shoes. We saw two ladies falling multiple times and we ended up helping them. Take your time and go slow. We did it in almost 4hrs. It was 7.44 miles complete. Enjoy the trails and please leave no trace.

A…read morefew things to note, around 1.2 miles into the trail there will be a split without a sign indicating where the trails lead. Continue heading north (or to the right) to stay on Strawberry. Again around 2.5 miles there will be another split, closer to the left side going up you'll see the marker indicating Strawberry. The trail is relatively "easy" the first 2 .5 miles. The last mile to the peak is where the climbs start to kick it. There will be a few parts where you're climbing over rocks, and for a few moments it might seem like you may be off trail, but you'll be able to glance around and see if you're still on path. The closer you get to the peak you'll hit about 2 false peaks, but don't be discouraged the actual summit is close in distance, you just have a little more climbing to do. My picture don't to the peak much justice. While the views aren't as amazing as Cucamonga peak, you'll still have some nice views of the mountain range to the north and Downtown LA to the south west. So far out of the So Cal six peak challenge alternate peaks this one might be my favorite since the hike is a combination of a relaxed walk & some intense climbs. One last thing to note, the trail is on the outside of the mountain so there isn't too much shade from trees so make sure your properly prepared during the summer time.

It's one of the most pristine hiking experiences near Los Angeles with fantastic views. I saw no graffiti, no trash and after just a few minutes of hiking truly felt that I was in the wild. Until.....I heard the bang! bang! bang! from the shooting range nearby. Nevertheless, it was a wonderful hiking experience and highly recommended if you're in the San Fernando Valley Area. The trail itself rises straight up but isn't too steep. After your efforts, you'll be rewarded with an all downhill experience as you return to the parking lot. Speaking of the parking lot, it is beautifully maintained and features an actual working water fountain. Open from 30 minutes after sunrise to 30 minutes before sunrise, it's maintained by the Mountains Recreation and Conservation Authority who have preserved these 125 acres of wilderness for hiking, mountain biking and equestrian use. Free. And free parking. The best things in life are free, it's true.
