Being a good pet owner involves vet care but so many people think that should be inexpensive. I have had 3 dogs cared for by these ladies over the last 4 years. Routine visits, dental work, cancer diagnosis and treatment, euthanasia, and just last week - an EMERGENCY visit when our dog was bitten badly by a German Shepherd. Exam, wound care, anesthesia, surgery, medications for 530$! Half of what it would cost on the Front Range or anywhere else in the country. I have always appreciated the courtesy and skill of the entire staff.

I called Grand Mesa Veterinary Hospital and was told that I could pay a $110 non-refundable "urgent care" deposit to be seen in 2 days. I asked if they could hold the spot for a few minutes while I checked some other vets and was told "first come, first serve". Obviously I care about my dog and, not knowing if I could find anyone else, I agreed and paid. I then called a few other places and found one that could see my dog in the morning (no deposit needed). I called Grand Mesa Veterinary Hospital back 15 minutes after the first call and asked for a refund. They said no. I asked for a discount because, after all, they were charging me $110 to have my name on their calendar for 15 minutes! They said no. Yes I agreed to their terms but I feel they are absolutely being crooks. $110 to have my name for 15 minutes!!! That is not how you make a new in your community. I am absolutely flabbergasted that they would not even discount the $110. That is thievery in my book. I look forward to seeing the "out of business" sign on these jerks.

We were quoted an office fee plus a $200 call out. We gave all the information about our dog. Dr Martin said he would see her but did not think the 10 hours until they opened in the morning would be crucial, and would save $200. That was a long night of worry. We showed up the next morning for our appointment. Our Frenchie was given an exam. The vet was very informed about the breed. After an extensive exam, he confirmed his diagnosis gave her a pill, recommended a change in her food and sent us on our way. The relief we had after the visit was overwhelming. We stayed an extra night in town, just to be sure the dog was ok, and rested before driving home. Today the dog is back to normal. The emergency call, preliminary diagnosis over the phone, and final visit were all professional and informative.

Our dog is an Alaskan Malamute now 16 Dr. Martin was closed so went to another vet cause he was having trouble breathing they wanted to sedate him and X-ray. We decided to wait for Dr. Martin. He looked at us and said he could have cancer but what could we do- he's too old to be operated on and too old to even sedate without worrying he wouldn't wake up. He said "the dogs happy, he goes on walks, he has a family who takes good care of him, lets just make him comfortable." Love that it was so truthful and matter of fact and not out to get our money from vulnerability.

I had some in-depth conversations with Jeff, and both take the time to answer my questions. While the clinic isn't perfect (I've has some odd interactions with former staff) the doctors seem pretty on it, and the current staff seems friendly enough. I've never had them push extra tests or x-rays- in fact I've been the one to ask for more at times. They are willing to give me alternatives to procedures to try first at home. I think that is a pretty balanced and reasonable approach for this area. While the other reviewer pointed out some distasteful commentary in previous newsletters, fortunately that column has been omitted during this time when political and cultural tensions are high. Best for this area to leave personal politics out of things. Another reviewer mentioned no masks - and while that was initially a deterrent for me, once I was vaccinated I felt ok about going in there. I wore my mask and no one gave me a hard time. They do offer curbside pick up for those who'd rather not go in. For animal care, they're great, and I highly recommend them. Sure better than the other vet in town, who asked us to leave when he didn't agree with our ideology about healthy food, literally. And handled our baby girl kitty like she was a ferocious lion instead of our precious furball. I think this clinic is the best choice for this area.

We had took her in and told them EVERYTHING! She was very sick, they told us they'd start with X-rays to make she didn't have a blockage. 6 hours later, we went to go get her. All the told us was they gave her anti nausea medicine, sent her home with different food and said "there was no blockage she's okay." They also said they took her outside and she "perked right up." "She hasn't thrown up at all while here" our baby girl proceeded to gag as soon as we got in the car. Progressively got worse since the moment she left. 2 days later she died. We took her to a second vet the next day after cottonwood, where they proceed to check her right away and said she's EXTREMELY dehydrated, and couldn't believe cottonwood didn't give her an IV, AFTER KNOWING SHE HADN'T EATEN OR DRANK IN DAYS. Amigo vet gave her IVs, tested her for parvo (negative) amigo told us she was extremely sick. My baby bled out of her but. She was extremely sick going into cottonwood, and they neglected our baby girl. 2 days after her passing, I talked to her doctor in person Dr. Hoest. I had asked her why they didn't give piper an IV. She quite literally SHRUGGED her shoulders. Continued to tell us, they checked if she was dehydrated, said she was. Were we told that when picking her up from there. NO, I was not. We were told nothing else but that she didn't have a blockage, THEY SAID SHE WAS OKAY. Whatever you do, don't take your baby here. Take them somewhere people actually care, Dr. Hoest chooses which clients she would like to GENUINELY care for. Yea it's cheaper here, but is it really worth the risk? Dr. Hoest neglected my dog, didn't do her job they way she should have. do NOT bring your pets here!
