I enjoy the banter between the employees, the environment is really cute and welcoming, no one seems arrogant, but pretty laid back, however, im a fairly shy and anxious person, my stylist is always very chatty which is great because it helps relax me a bit, my stylist is always very sweet, and I truly believe they are a great stylist, just maybe not the stylist for me. Each time I have gone, my hair cut had been completely different than what was requested. I prefer an angled bob, but decided to try something different and go shorter due to some serious breakage and damage to my hair. But what I got vs what I requested and showed are to VASTLY different things, to put it mildly, I have a men's haircut, which is TOTALLY different from what I asked for and the pictures I submitted prior to my appointment and the consultation I had prior to my hair being cut. I paid, and tipped and walked out. this is possibly one of the worst haircuts I have ever had. my stylist compared it to a pixie cut, however, that is very clearly NOT what they gave me, and not even what I asked for / or showed them. I would suggest that if youre planning to go to this salon, be VERY VOCAL about what you want. maybe i should have spoken up, but I didn't realize how awful it was until my hair was dried. My hair is starting to grow out now, but it will be several months before I achieve the style I originally requested. I'm horribly embarrassed. It sucks, because I do really like the salon itself, but after this, I wont be coming back.

Danika was very communicative the entire cut and really delightful to chat with-- she provided me with upkeep instructions throughout and a great product recommendation. Honestly I've never been so happy with my hair and can't imagine going to anyone else while she's around. Oh and S+M has nice ambiance. Every bit of the experience felt premium from the building to the wash sinks. You should get your hair cut here, they're great.

since my first review, i have been coming here for haircuts every so often and had great…read moreexperiences with all of them. i really appreciate that i can book appointments through their website and communicate over email as i HATE phone calls. shelly is an absolute doll and is very accommodating and helps problem solve so you get the best services for your wants/needs. the past 1.5 years i have been getting my hair cut with camille. she always does a lovely lived-in shag cut which grows out beautifully. even 6 months after getting a cut i have people complimenting my hair. i also recently incorporated dye with zoe (shelly's rec for the style i wanted). shelly organized my cut and dye appointments seamlessly. i am a go with the flow kind of person when it comes to my hair, so i gave zoe a lot of freedom with the dye and the end result was exactly what i wanted (probably better than the reference photos honestly). everyone i have interacted with at crafted have been really friendly and personable and i feel very comfortable in the space. also the music is great. as long as i live within a reasonable amount of distance from crafted i will probably continue to get my hair done here.

Balance is probably great -- IF you have naturally straight hair. No good if you have literally any other texture hair. My thick, dense, curly hair was totally mishandled. I went home, showered out all the zillion little cut hairs left within my locks and on my shoulders, and then got a really good look at a really bad haircut. They made me look like an A-framed poodle having a stroke. When I went back to my usual salon I was told: "They gave you an expert haircut for somebody else -- somebody WITHOUT your hair!" Any wavy, curly, coily girls: spend your $100 elsewhere! He was attentive, kind and when I was in a huge pinch he was reliable. He did such a wonderful job with the color I'm getting a ton of compliments. I usually pull more of a yellow tone and he was able to pull a cooler blonde effortlessly. This was my first time at this salon and it was very clean. It was my first time EVER getting my hair colored and I was really nervous but she made me feel so comfortable and explained everything. And she freaking killed it! She's a junior stylist but you could never tell. This is their newer location, right on 36th St in Hampden. I would recommend trying to find the free parking on the side streets because the main street is all paid hourly parking, which isn't great for the longer color appointments. I arrived to my appointment on time. I didn't get a text until about five minutes later that it was time for me to come in, so I patiently waited. I walked in to find that my hairstylist was doing her own make up in the mirror of the salon. She didn't acknowledge me at all as I walked by. I waited in silence for another five minutes while she finished her make up routine. She trimmed the bottom of my ends for about 10 minutes, tried to sell me a hair product, then told the receptionist I should be charged for a cut, not a shampoo/style/cut. I wound up being charged for everything. I paid over $100 for a shampoo/style/cut even when I called the receptionist back and explained the situation. I am happy to pay full price for a haircut that lasts longer than 10 minutes and when the salon is transparent about pricing, but this interaction made me feel taken advantage of. The person who cut my hair may have been having an off day because she just seemed like she didn't want to be there and I felt like I was intruding on her personal time, while also paying her over $100. Hair is very personal for me and I felt so sad after this appointment. Stay away.
