Excellent location, eat outside and enjoy a beautiful sunset!! We enjoyed the shell fish, very fresh and tasty! The tuna special was good, the tuna grade was not high quality, an opportunity for them to get better grades. Tuna should be bright red for good quality. They have indoor seating, but it was too hot and limited views of the water. The bar had nice water views & a wide selection of adult beverages. My parents showed Twisties to me and my girlfriend after they'd gone for dinner and drinks a few times this summer - we were super impressed. The atmosphere is great, with tons of history, energy, and fun. The food is even better, with some of the best sandwiches we'd had in a long time. This is my first time in the area and we had originally planned on dining out at the large yuppified establishment down the street which was recommended to us by a complete stranger sitting next to us at the beach earlier in the afternoon. Don't get me wrong, I would def give the house of yuppie a try but seeing as I had 3 hungry youngsters with me I had a more immediate problems, namely the 90+ minute wait time. If it were just my wife and I we probably would have made due with a couple drinks or found a seat at the bar next to Buffy and Chet but the situation quickly became mutinous when my hungry children began rolling around on the lawn and throwing landscaping rocks into the bay. With desperation in the air I did the only sensible thing and opened Yelp to look for establishments nearby. Much to my surprise there was this restaurant 0.2 miles down a side street called Twisties. I decided to scout out the location by foot and was pleasantly surprised by the location when I arrived, a well kept building with a small seating area right on the water! This place def has a local vibe, a serviceable selection of beers on tap, an amazing view and excellent food. My kids ate grilled cheese, chicken tenders and a cheeseburger (all were "delicious" according to them). My wife had a Mahi special (same verdict) and I had linguine with clams which was fresh and excellent. Highly recommend! read more

This place was recommended by a few friends since we were at the beach in the area that day. Got here early, right before 5 o'clock yesterday. There was no wait which was wonderful! I guess it was perfect timing for us on a holiday weekend! Staff was super friendly. We were both in the mood for crab cakes, which they didn't serve. So we decided on calamari, seafood pizza with pesto and crab fries. Fries were great, pizza was good and the calamari was good (they fry it with jalapeños-so good and hot!) although we both thought it was a very small portion. Next time I'd like to wait for a table on the patio that's on the water. Must be such a beautiful view!! read more

Twisties is a classic eating & drinking spot in charming Strathmere on the Jersey Cape. Twisties is a restaurant that's not just on the water ... but over the water as part of it is built on pilings extending into the bay. And despite its literal waterfront location, it has survived for more than a century. In the 1920s during Prohibition, this is one of the places where the notorious gangster Al Capone came to drink. You see, Strathmere being on an island with no direct link to the mainland made Twisties just a little bit safer from federal agents. Well you don't have to be Al Capone to go to Twisties these days. There's both indoor and outdoor eating at Twisties as well as a large bar area looking out over Ludlam Bay. Do know in the summertime, you might have to wait for a seat as Twisties is very popular. Recently, I stopped in for a bite to eat and a beer after an afternoon of body surfing at the beach just a short walk away. My local Slack Tide ale was just the refresher I was looking for and the well-prepared BLT sandwich on rye accompanied by bay fries was a filling early evening meal. Was excited to try Twisties after several recommendations. We live in the south end of OCNJ so always looking for a new dinner spot. For the same price travel a little further and enjoy better ambiance and portions. We are regulars at the Deauville so thought we'd try another spot with a bay view. Unfortunately Twisties did not live up to the recommendation. Drinks were poor, portions on the special and tuna were slim. Sandwiches looked good. Pleasant service. read more

This is a people's bar that's meant for talkers. Everyone is interested in having their say and willing to listen to yours. Very friendly. The food is quite good for a bar. And a great sunset. They really should put some lights on the coconut heads. read more

You'll find this restaurant off the beaten path in a small shore town called Strathmere (a little known place with free beaches on the Jersey shore) which is nestled between Sea Isle City and Ocean City. Twisties is located on the main road bay side and has such a cool history as depicted on their menu. The food is delicious and prices are fair. My Bloody Mary was homemade and delicious as was the clam bisque soup and the fish of the day sandwich. Definitely a locals joint but worth a stop for some decent food, drinks, and nostalgia. read more

Awesome view to the Bay from the bar seat, (though not much "on the bay" outdoor seating), which apparently encourages the wildly high prices. Legit sticker shock. I thought the nearby Deauville was priced high, which is a little more digestible when you see the layout compared to Twisties. Deauville at least pretends to try. Twisties charges for everything, each topping/addition broken out to a fee. A burger with cheese and 1-2 toppings would pan out to be $26. Weird entrees (pork chop w/ hibiscus gastrique?!) all $37-$40.. $10 for a kids hotdog. $7-$8 for a beer. $9 for soup. Blah pasty crust "pizza". Plastic basket/wax paper type food for high end prices. Where are we? Miami? Insane. I guess the owners saw what their neighbors are pulling in up the street for subpar food, and figured they'd ride their wave. read more

Sat at the bar. Mussels were amazing, wings meaty and the hot sauce was uniquely delicious. Pizza toppings were a bit over priced ($3 for about 12 Hormel pepperonis...) but the crust was delightfully crispy and flavorful. Mahi sandwich was hot and good. Crinkle fried perfectly crisped but not dried out inside. Shrimp tacos tasted wonderful but left me wanting more shrimp. View from the bar is wonderful. Would definitely return. read more

Sadly joined the rest of the Sea Isle overpriced trash ...Still has a nice Bar tho for a Drink or 2 A Simple Burger and Fries is now close to $25 !! Give me a Break.. If You are planning to Dine there that is a different story altogether...You wont need a Doggie Bag... For Sure... Bring a magnifying glass for the Dinner Portions. BEWARE of " Specials " Secure a Home Equity Loan before you go.... Otherwise , handle the short drive to go " Off Island " and avoid a Colonoscopy . Went here for the first time and it was horrible. Service was slow and food was not worth the high price. The cheese fries were concession stand quality at best, the nachos were disgusting, and the pizza was undercooked and tasted exactly like frozen pizza. read more

What an absolutely beautiful location. On the bay in lovely Strathmere. I hadn't been to twisties in years and I only remember the gorgeous view but couldn't remember the meal. Now I know why. It was pretty bad. Frozen pizza, frozen pulled pork. Stale buns. Standard frozen chicken tenders. The nachos were 28 dollars and had canned nacho cheese with cold chicken dare I say from a can as well. I mean, no one is asking for some crazy 5 star food, but come on! Simplify your menu, make some fresh items. You're near the ocean, bakeries, fresh produce!! And to boot they're only open a few days a week so I imagine there's time to plan. I would not return to eat but to have a drink and enjoy the view, sure. Such a waste of what could be an incredible place. They must not care because people will just keep going being the options are so limited on the island. Do better!! read more

I had been to Twisties before a few years back and had a nice experience.. so I decided to go again yesterday for an early dinner after a day on the beach. This was my first outdoor dining experience post corona.. so I was already expecting good things. We were seated right away at a table on the upper outside deck area. Our waitress was very nice and attentive. We ordered the sweet potato fries and honey Siracha wings to start - both were DELICIOUS. I really don't even like wings that much.. and I ate 3 of them. I ordered the special that was a mahi mahi sandwich w celery and carrot slaw - I am still thinking about how amazing it was. It was SO fresh and flavorful... the sauce on it was garlic honey hot sauce and I need to figure out the recipe because it was that delicious. Twisties is a great drink spot but I seriously am impressed with their food!! I'll definitely be back! read more

A hidden gem among the hustle and bustle of the Jersey shore. Enjoyed two wonderful meals during our week vacation in Oceanview. Stopped in on a Monday evening and enjoyed hibiscus lemonade at the bar while waiting for a table on the very small 3 table deck overlooking the bay. Beautiful sunset. Well worth the wait. Steamed clams in lemongrass was excellent. The mahi mahi fish sandwich with twistie fries did not disappoint. Our second meal was on Thursday with friends who were vacationing in OC. Loaded nachos where piled up to the ceiling. Very tasty and plenty for 5 people. Also had the siracha honey wings. Well worth the wait. Bar was 3 deep and everyone had a drink in hand waiting for a table. Locals and vacationers all having a great meal in a quaint small time family restaurant. read more

I had the steak tip sandwich which was great. Steamers were pretty good. The fish sandwich had a plum balsamic drizzle which was like jelly and ruined the sandwich. My margarita was too syrupy. The vibe was good and outdoor seating though limited was nice. Would definitely try again. read more
