In search of a "Japanese style nail artist" is not easy to find. While there are several artists who say they offer this service, there are few in the States. Trusting my 'yelp reviewees' I found a fabulous artist! I was amazed at her detailed designs. I brought several pictures in and she did better than the picture I brought in! Interesting set up. Her space is in a business park. A one room office is cutely decorated and she is the only artist. Plan ahead bc service is by appointment only which can be a bit out. Jina is awesome! The nail shop might be a bit hard to find because it is located inside a hair salon but once you look out for May Queen salon, it's easy to find. Plenty of parking as well. Just go straight into the salon and you'll find Jina in her separate nail room. She's a real pro at copying any design and doesn't even sweat about it. Super sweet and really takes her time to clean/trim your nails. If you're unsure about a design, she provides many ideas and suggestions to make it cuter! I'll definitely be visiting her monthly! This place is clean and they are generally nice but I felt a lot of pressure to get stones bc thats the first picture that I showed them. But I told them I didnt want stone after they told me it may fall out before my wedding. So i said no stone (appreciating their honesty) but then they said small stones should do and kept pressuring me. This was for my wedding and I wanted simple classic look but I came out of the place feeling really sad and bad. Sad bc I drove all the way from SD to see what good nail art is about and I did not like how my nails came out. The stones arent even pretty. It looks tacky more than anything. I spent $60 + 8 tip. Ive gotten nicer gel manis spending $30... I wish i didnt tip so much, maybe I would have felt better. But Im a tipper so I might have felt worse if I didnt. Sigh so much regret. Today was my first time here. I came here after looking through their gallery. First of all, I was very impressed with the pictures. Really liked their designs and how much effort it seemed they put into it. I want to start off by saying that the lady that did my nails is really nice and sincere. I initially went in wanting to do a design that I had in mind, but since my nails are short right now, she suggested that I do something different since it wouldn't look as nice. I agreed and was open to options. When she was cleaning my cuticles, shaping the nails, She put every ounce of effort into each nail. She was very gentle with my hands and nails. She even told me to tell her if she hurts me. I was really like the way she cared for me as her customer. All the other times, when I would go to vietnamese places, they would make me bleed and blame the crooked shape of my nails on me instead of their crappy handwork. They would also be so rough and harsh on me whenever I would ask them to make my nail shape straight or point out to them that the acrylic, gel, manicure was smeared, etc. Anyway. I plan on coming to this place from here on out. Koreans are the best when it comes to nail design and shaping... It seems like they consider our nails as a canvas for their masterpiece, not a place where they can do whatever, very fast to make some money. And no. I'm not being racist. I came here after not doing anything to my nails for a while. I showed her the design of nails that I want. I wanted light pink + coral color, but they just didn't have enough colors. From rows of nailpolish displayed on the wall, I would point to one close to the color that I want and ask her "how about that one?" They would reply that all the ones I picked are highlight colors. How about separate different types of colors into different sections? Also, a nail shop without enough variations of pink (and too many highlights!) does not seem very prepared to serve customer base of mostly females. I got a very limited choice and was forced to pick from it. It would've been better if she just picked out similar colors and had me pick one. She was pressuring me to choose my colors quickly and I did not feel comfortable at all. She didn't help much and seemed annoyed that I'm making her get up and pick color from the wall (because I cannot reach them). Am I supposed to have everything prepared and show her exactly what I want? I was asking myself, what am I doing here getting treated like this for trying to get my nails done? She did a nice job, but it was pricey. On top of that, I had to tip her, which made it even more expensive. I searched my wallet and found my stamp card, but she said, "Oh, that one's old. We have a new one now." She handed me a new stamp card with only one stamp! I guess my old stamp card automatically expires after they get a new one? I was so done with this place with bad service, high price, non-transferrable stamps no matter how skilled she is. There is no reason to come here if it makes me feel terrible to get nails done. read more

I'm just going straight into it. Pro: friendly, cute place, design is on point. Con: they charge $5-10 extra just to remove the old gel nail. No message, no warm water/towel for the hand. For a regular mani or pedi its $30 I believe, which is expensive because they hardly do anything beside trim and paint the nail. My mani total to $60 with the design. read more

HOWEVER if the design and detail in your nails is what you crave this is the best place I have ever been. They do all dry service since they are not in a salon store front. Meaning, no hot water soak just hot towels. They still do an amazing job at triming back cuticles and shaping your nails. The detail and care given to the shape and design of the nail work is amazing. This is my 2nd time getting my nails done by Jina. I hopped around and tried out different nail technicians in oc but I decided to stick with Jina. Jina takes a good hour(depending on what design you want) but she definitely takes her time and doesn't make you feel rushed. She's not like Vietnamese nail technicians that take walk-ins and spend at most 30mins on you. She asks often if what she's doing is okay. Wow I love this nail salon! It is nestled inside a hair salon on the left. Jina is so awesome! She doesn't get nosy trying to pry every juicy detail of your life. She makes you feel very welcome and comfortable. She also gives really great consultations regarding everything from the condition of your nails to color schemes to what the latest trend is. I was totally amazed by her professionalism without the snobby I-know-it-all snooty attitude. She is such a sweetheart! She is very genuine when having a conversation. Also, there is a real door that separates the nail salon from the hair salon. You can keep it closed for peace and quiet since the hair salon tends to get loud with all the blow drying and people chatting away. The prices are very reasonable as well. This was my second visit to this nail salon and was very impressed by the quality of work she does! You can see the TLC that she pours into each nail! No drilling, no yanking, no nonsense! Jina does not push you to add anything that you don't feel comfortable with. She is bilingual (Korean and English) so I am sure she will have more non-Korean clients headed her way.
