Great Uptown guitar shop with good new and used guitars and effects. Also provides fast, reasonably priced tuneups and repairs.

(Do call ahead when visiting top-tier shops like this.) They have a fantastic inventory, from newly made to historically significant instruments and everything is perfectly set up. Claire Givens is not only a nationally recognized string instrument expert; she is also a thoroughly lovely person. I needed bows rehaired and I needed a new bow to replace my "baby" while it sent away to get rehaired. NOTHING. There was nobody in the area that could help me out. I recalled visiting Claire Givens Violins about 4 decades ago. I've been playing for 52 years. It was a long shot (literally 1500 miles away) but I reached out to Claire Givens Violins and not only did they hook me up with some OVER THE MOON new bows, they rehaired my "baby" and did a remarkable job. Every single facet of Claire Givens Violins BLEW ME AWAY from their professionalism, knowledge, feel, vibe, service, honesty, and above all, LOVE for violins and the violinist (ME)! I give Claire Givens Violins TEN STARS on a 1-5 rating. Chris Cary

Martin was a total sweetie and answered all of my friend's questions about the products, especially the drums which my friend was interested in for her son. He looked up the meaning of one symbol that was carved into a drum. He told us not to drum with anything but hands, that the drums were made of goat skin. He showed us the different sounds each drum made and how to tap it in the middle or tap on the sides, and how to stop the sound. We learned that there is a drumming expert that comes in on Sundays at 1 PM and teaches kids and everyone how to drum. The drums are marked at $400 but there were signs around saying half off and he negotiated even below that with a smile. (There is an ATM machine very, very close.) Lastly, my friend left her cell phone on the counter. We were in her car driving away when we realized it so we called her phone and Martin answered. He ran her phone to the exit and gave it to us. See you on Sunday, Martin! Thanks!

As for your 150.00 sorry but that was prob. labor. he worked on your instrument to try to help it. He deserves the money. If your car was looked at the labor would still be charged and you would be told to total the car or that they could not fix it. That being said the person who owns this shop has retired over 8 years ago I think. I just did not want others thinking he is still there. I started playing at age 7 and I can say thing about my experience with Castle Accordion it was always good. Just because you do not like the outcome do not take it out on the owner. I was told to throw mine out. I am sure if you went to the same place as I did he would have told you the same thing. At least Castle tried to fix it.

As soon as we got it home, the bass buttons immediately got messed up again, falling into the holes. No details were given as to what was actually repaired, and the only comment back from Castle was "well this old accordion needs alot more than $150 of work" yet he of course had no problem in taking $150 from us and being sneaky about what that money would accomplish. We spent $150 and came home with a broken accordion! Beware! I can not recommend dealing with Castle Accordion, which is a shame - we were absolutely ripped off.
