Mr. Stams showed an inability to properly diagnose my problem - he diagnosed a leg length discrepancy without imaging or proper assessment (he looked at my posture in a mirror and based his entire diagnosis on "eye-balling" my leg length). I have since found out my spine has slight scoliosis which may have led to my legs not appearing to be the same length in his assessment. He prescribed a heel lift in one shoe, effectively jamming my leg into that hip joint and causing my sciatic nerve to be pinched off, further causing me to lose sensation in my entire leg and have excruciating nerve pain for nearly a decade. Since my legs were later determined by one of the top hip surgeons in BC to be the same length, jamming my one leg into my hip joint has caused the joint to break down and required me to have a full hip replacement. Sadly, having a unilateral hip replacement often causes a leg length discrepancy which I now have due to needing a prosthetic due to Mr. Stams misdiagnosis. Coupled with my slight scoliosis, I now experience compressed spinal discs and excessive wear on my biological hip (which will also require surgery and may not solve the problem if they are unable to exactly match my leg lengths). Mr. Stams won my Health Review Board complaint b/c he hired a lawyer who worded documents exactly as the Board wanted. Their decision was that at 50yrs old, I was "old with multiple issues" even tho one of the top surgeons in North America in charge of my care stated that a heel lift prescribed to an improperly diagnosed leg length discrepancy is a probable cause for hip replacement. I addressed every claim Mr. Stams made, however, I was unable to afford a lawyer to complete my documents and Mr. Stams was excused. I truly believe I would not be experiencing the amount of pain I have experienced over the last decade if Mr. Stams had not mistakenly prescribed a heel lift to my normal legs. read more
