    Lovely interior!
    Sijia X.

We sat down at around 615PM for our reservation. By 740PM we had not received our mains. The starter came out relatively fast and the the waiter was accommodating when we asked to switch one of our mains early into meal service. The waiters were all prompt and polite. The view as well as the interior are wonderful with many paintings and pretty decor. I am giving a two star rating because of the treatment by, I assume, the manager. We were on a time crunch and assumed almost two hours would be enough time to eat. We started to check on our food approximately 30 minutes into service, multiple times, and were consistently told it would be out of the kitchen shortly. We eventually waited for over an hour to no avail. When we asked for the check to leave because we could not longer wait for food, we were treated as a nuisance and burden. Some memorable quotes: "Chicken takes at least 30minutes to cook as we want to make it safe" - I understand delays in the kitchen and certain mix ups, but there were tables seated significantly later after us that were already half way into their food. Although this logic is relatively sound, it does not make sense in the context of our specific circumstances. "If you eat really fast you can make it" - once again, logic is sound, but we ordered a nice meal at a nice restaurant where we wanted to actually enjoy our food. The food wasn't even out by 740PM despite multiple promises of the food being "on the bus." No reasonable person wants to go inhale a 50$ steak(adjusting for conversion) with their whiskey, once again, at a nice restaurant. I understand there are kitchen issues and general logistics hiccups, but I expected better service at a nice restaurant. We were made to feel like horrible people for wanting our food after an hour of waiting and watching many others receive food. There was no courtesy apology or even an illusion of thought or care. Essentially, we were gaslit into thinking we were in the wrong for ordering chicken and expecting the bare minimum courtesy. If it was indeed a kitchen error, that's fine, but be transparent instead of laying the blame on your customers who have been patient enough to wait over an hour for food. I did not expect such poor treatment and rudeness at such a nice place(this should not be a standard anywhere). Maybe the manager was having a bad day? That's fine and I hope whatever troubles he faced has been resolved and he feels better. I am adding one star for the nice decoration and ambience. The mackerel salad starter was also quite delicious! Please see my pictures for the interior.

We ate here for breakfast and between the open buffet and the options for ordering, I was extremely impressed. Left every morning very full and content. The service was also very nice.

Fantastic food and service. The inside of the restaurant is super nice and classy. I highly recommend the pea soup and Sticky Toffee Pudding!

Had dinner here earlier this week and have to say, the food was absolutely fantastic. We also dined on a voucher but was never made to feel 'lesser' because of it. Black pudding and pulled pork roll to start.. I was envisioning some kind of bun and thinking that wasn't overly glamorous but what arrived was more akin to a spring roll and having the crunch of the crispy skin on the roll was great to offset the rich texture of the pork and black pudding. The steak was cooked to perfection and the triple cooked chips were perfectly crunchy on the outside and delightfully fluffy on the inside. The peppercorn sauce was rich without being overpowering and I even ate all the grilled cherry tomatoes even though I don't usually like cooked tomato. The jaffa cake dessert was slightly over de-constructed making it difficult to piece together all the flavours but the chocolate souffle is quite possibly the best I've had in town. Amazing crust at the top and indulgently rich and gooey in the middle. The chocolate shot that accompanies it is devilishly alcoholic and delicious. The room itself is gorgeous, high ceilings with modern fixtures, a mix of booths and tables, all with a fantastic view out the floor to ceiling windows looking out over Waverley Hotel, Waverley Station and Princes St. I was disappointed as when I arrived, I stood at the host stand for about 5 minutes and noone was there to greet me. Service was otherwise friendly and attentive if sometimes a bit curt. A la carte price point looks fair and I would say good for the great quality of food. Overall, would happily return for another meal.

As far as restaurant themes go, this one really does one of the best jobs, from literary themed menus the literary references across the walls. The drinks were also beyond unique and delightful -- I was particularly fond of the strawberry cocktail for three with strawberries and cream. I ordered mussels and steak. Though my order of mussels was given with the wrong sauce it was still beyond delicious and I have no complaints whatsoever. I did find the steak a touch lacking in flavor, and lightly on the tough side -- I do, however look forward to going back to try out other dishes that may be more signature than the sirloin.

    Yum!

Here for price fixe Christmas Day lunch. Outstanding! Service great, restaurant beautiful & airy. Food superb. Starter chicken & rabbit terrine was so fresh, ribeye steak served with superb peppercorn sauce. Chips tasty but just a tad greasy. Christmas pudding w homemade ice cream dense hot and fruity. I'll be back! PS also about 10 times better than my Christmas Eve dinner @ Hadrian's in the Balmoral yesterday!

You will definitely need one here during peak times. The service was warm & friendly. Artur was very helpful in answering all of our questions. The lunch menu is limited, but you can also order from the higher priced dinner menu as well. I was mostly amazed by the fact that you get complimentary oysters delivered to your table. My husband is not a seafood fan, so I was fortunate enough to enjoy both of them. These are large & tasty Pacific oysters grown at a farm in Loch Fyne. Delicious! It was such a great starter. I couldn't pass up the half kilo pot (lunch portion) of steamed mussels. These are Scottish rope-grown mussels. I should have ordered a kilo. They were so addicting. The white wine sauce with shallots was perfect. However, I did have a difficult time deciding which sauce to choose. The whisky with smoked bacon also sounded amazing. If I had to say anything negative, it would be to maybe add more bread to soak up the sauce. I probably could have asked for more, but I didn't. That's on me. I really wanted to return to try the Surf & Turf. We just didn't have enough time to do it all. I would go back in a heartbeat. It ended up being a great find. A great experience!

I ended up wishing I picked a different protein because the lamb came on the bone, wish was hard to eat around for me. Since it was my first day in Scotland, the conversion between pounds and dollars hadn't yet processed for me. As a heads up, ordering the 23.00 pound classic entree came out to be $32.50.

Sunday Roast: All the standards, but fancy. The really differentiator was the beef, which seem aged and very high quality. Great tender texture and nice gravy to go with it. Though a wee bit small portion of meat. The veggies were cooked very nicely with a lot of freshness and textures, not mushy like some pubs serve. The only weird thing is that the yorkshire pudding seemed to be deep fried. Added an overly crispy texture which as kinda weird; I prefer traditionally baked. Toffee Apple Pudding: More like a bread pudding than a sticky pudding. Filled with great flavor and a few nice baked apples bit on top. Great toffee sauce and ice cream to round it out. Blackberry & Lime Soda: So much better than those highly sugared sodas you get at the store. Definitely tasted the fresh fruit and artisanal methods.
