Browsing around I enjoyed the various items the carry from beachwear and accessories to jewelry and various totes and even a fun puzzle postcard sharing the aloha spirit is very fun and unique here along with shirts with the local fun sayings had me smiling with a fun way to express your vibe for the day. The service here seems very friendly as she was very into the conversation with a guest that went on and on is great as I was busy browsing some of the items was quite pricey though do carry some unique items but it was a nice and comfortable place to shop. Yes, they have lots and lots of bikinis in many styles, colors and sizes. Even a chart that shows the amount of "cheek" exposed based in the cut. They have lots of clothing, too. Of course there are lacy beach cover ups, t-shirts, totes, hats, and even some jewelry, most with colors of the sea. With the racks of clothing there doesn't seem to be a code for how the items are organized! Different colors, lengths and patterns of different items all on the same rack in no apparent order. Take your time to go through them and find one that speaks to you. They really are quite pretty. The young lady working that day was super friendly, engaging in conversation as I shopped. I particularly loved the light maxi dresses in various beach patterns - tie dye, florals, soft colors. And the jewelry, specifically the long dangly earrings with pale blue stones. I have so many earrings in colors of the sea that I had to pass on them this trip. But I will be back! Every single time. The store is impeccably clean, easy to shop, and their clothing fits my vibe 100%. I always leave feeling good about what I bought (or at least inspired). Such a great local shop in the Matsumoto's shopping center. If you appreciate well-made pieces, good energy, and supporting North Shore businesses, Mahina is a must. It is located in a house that has been converted into a retail shop. It is quaint and unassuming. It has some major brand inventory--but the majority of its stock is clothing and accessories of their own design. They have some designs that feature a "bridge" (a nod to the nearby bridge that crosses the Anahulu River), and some designs that feature a rooster (a wink to all of those feral chickens that you see running around). You can go to their website for online shopping--but the online shop does not have all of the items available in store. Sometimes I think the term "authentic" is overused nowadays; but the shop does feel "of a place".

Before the alerts and sirens, we were shopping. We went into the HIC store - we love this nastalgic brand and made a point to stop in. This location had such a fun vibe and so much to choose from for the whole family. Here is where we met Merv! He was super nice and helpful with things we were intersed in purchasing. We left happy with our items. Shortly after realizing these alerts were to take serious and we would need to get to higher ground, we headed for our transportation, which was the bus. The bus wasn't coming anytime soon and we knew we were far from our hotel. Something told us to rush back to Merv! Thank goodness we did, he and Hunter graciously let us hitch a ride into their town Mililani, where we would be safer while we waited things out. Merv's kindness just continued and he and his family gave us shelter into their welcoming home! They showed us Angelenos what the Aloha spirit is. If you are on Oahu visiting, go to the HIC store in Haleiwa and you just might meet a real life hero - Merv!

Now that I know what it's really all about, you have to appreciate both the clothing and the mission. :) Although I wish they had a few more styles, colors, and/or clothing options, I am not complaining. I bought a great shirt that fits well with a simple but tasteful Hawaiian design on it. My wife purchased a tank top that she really likes, too. The store, which is fairly small, nonetheless has two fitting rooms so that you can try things on. The staff was friendly enough, and the products are neat and well organized. Pricing isn't cheap, but it's not higher than you would expect either. Many of the T-shirts are marked as fitted shirts, but to me they are normal. I don't fit into fitted shirts too well, and even after a wash, the shirt fits perfectly fine, so you are unlikely to have to size up. If you're in the area and are on board with the mission and message, you'd be remiss not to stop in!

Prices were ok, not bargain but not outrageous and they feel thicker than the usual shirts being sold
